I've used Uber a few times now and I love it. Such a great alternative over cabs. The first few times I used it was during ACL weekend to get from north to south Austin and back. I had no issues. All the drivers were friendly and the cars were clean. Some drivers were better at driving than others but that is to be expected I guess. Watch out for surge charges. I think they make it pretty obvious on the app when the surge is in effect and how much you will be charged extra but some people have been surprised about the higher rates. My friends and I just hung out until the surge was over or decided that the surge was worth it to just get home. My favorite part about the app is that you can easily split the fare with your friends. It makes it so convenient! I hate finding parking downtown so I would choose Uber over that any day. read more

I was impressed with how quickly they always arrived, how clean the vehicles were and how professional and safe the drivers were. Made our vacation so much easier. I use Uber everyday. What else can I say that hasn't already been said? It's awesome. Only bad experience I've had in 50 rides was a bad route a driver took. I used to love Uber. Preferred it over Yellow Cab, not anymore. Without going into a long story about issues from the past, I will tell you about these past two days. First, you cannot open the Uber app on a Galaxy S5. It closes every time saying it has stopped. Pretty sad since it's 2015. Nevertheless, I downloaded it and ran it on my old phone yesterday for a return trip from Wal-mart. I and my mother called the driver no less than 10 times and each time there was no answer or it went to voicemail. I texted repeatedly and no response. Finally, he said he couldn't find us and cancelled the trip. The next driver had not one problem locating us. I was charged for the cancelled trip and immediately contacted Uber who claimed they refunded me although I've yet to get it. Today, I order Uber to go to work in. I wait and wait and no response from the driver. No call to ask me where I am. No text. Nothing Her number was disconnected when I tried calling. I have learned my trip was cancelled and I again was charged 5 dollars. I will NEVER use Uber again and I urge others not to as well. I asked to have my account cancelled and both trips refunded to me. I would rather suffer with the thieves of yellow cab then the dishonesty that is Uber. read more

It's been a few years since I used Uber Austin Tx. They have jacked up their prices to be unaffordable, not reliable (Scheduled the night before, didnt show, tried to charge me cancellation fee, had to walk 2 miles for pickup at airport, etc...). $175 for a one way trip that was only 21 miles! That is outrageous no matter how look at it. Ride was 65+ but we had a surcharge of $100. When they say the ride cost 2.6 times, that is an additional 2.6 on top of what you have to pay not 2.6x the original cost, big difference. And you can't even talk to anyone, the only communication is through an email. I ran an estimate earlier that said $61-80, my bad for not paying attention when I scheduled the ride but this is rubbery. I will never take UBER again, I will take my chances using a cab... Pay close attention when scheduling your ride which will most likely be during what they call prime time when we all need a ride. the cost can double or triple. Dynamic pricing is the only way we can encourage drivers to be on the road when there is little or no availability. We take notifying you of the current rates seriously - you should absolutely be empowered to make an informed choice when dynamic pricing is in effect. I have friends that have used Uber in the past and seemed satisfied so I decided to give it a try. I downloaded the app and immediately got a call from a driver. It took a while for the driver to arrive. Once we were on the road the driver seemed nice but ended up going past my destination. I had to use my phone for directions. We were off track and took a long time to arrive at my destination. Then the fare was $40 more than the cab would have been! When I contaced Uber about the route/fare they didn't care. We are huge fans of the share car process and online systems. We find Uber more expensive than Lyft yet Uber has extremely nice luxury cars and drivers in suits most of the time. The Uber bums at the airport are constantly in violation of Homeland Security Mandates by illegally parking their beaters curbside up in the drop off area. They sit in their cars low low low to avoid being seen. To them I say, "Hello, you're in car with license plates Dude. We see you and photograph you. It's just a matter of time until you get your ticket from Security or get 86'd entirely." Then to make matters worse, they try to slip into the two permitted areas where the limo companies park the black cars and suv's. I am very disappointed in Uber Eats. 2 weeks ago,I ordered $35 worth of food. I messaged the driver and told him to knock and wait for me. The app kept saying he was arriving. I waited,and after 15 minutes, nothing. I tried calling him,he blocked me. About that time ,he called and said he was at my door, but he wasn't and neither was my food. He delivered it to a different address. So I contacted Customer Care and told them what happened. They apologized and said my money would be back on my card in3-5 business days. Well,it wasn't. EVERY time I fly into Austin (which is every week), i input my destination address. It shows anywhere from 2-6 minutes to be picked up. I select it. It then "searches for a driver," and it takes anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes to be picked up. This is terrible service. Why tell me 2-6 minutes when it is really much longer? I would rather pay a little more for the cabs that are lined up at the airport to transport passengers. Uber sucks!! And what's worse, they do NOT care! read more

Our driver stole my iPhone X. We took Uber home from ABIA and seconds after walking inside the house my wife realized she left her phone in the backseat. By the time she walked outside the Uber driver was gone. I immediately called her phone and it went to voicemail. After locking the phone with Sprint we tried to contact the Uber driver. His phone went to voicemail and he did not return text messages. Within hours he tried to hack my Venmo account. You can forget about getting help from Uber, they are impossible to contact. We have the driver's license plate number, phone number, first name (Michel) and his image on our security camera. You would think that with the evidence and ID of the driver that APD would question him. APD took our report but didn't follow up as they promised. read more

Called for 2 drivers and they both cancelled due to supposed gps issues. I could see their car on my phone and they were circling around unable to find me. I am at a huge store with a huge sign in broad daylight. It is right off IH 35. You can't miss it. Get this-Uber charged me for the cancelled trips!!! When I called the driver to help him get there he said he was too far away and to call another driver. And then he hung up on me!! Unbelievable. Neither driver called me for directions or to tell me what was going on. Just cancelled and then charged me for the cancellations. Done with Uber. Wack, scheduled a ride to the airport, walked my bags across base to the gate just to be notified that there aren't any drivers in the area......should be able to tell when their own drivers are active so things like this don't happen. Pathetic! I'm forced to give Uber one star when they deserve ZERO. I landed at the airport (AUS) late one night this week, picked up my checked bag, and headed out the door. I called for an Uber. I was right there on the curb, outside of the baggage carousels, where every other d**n arriving passenger was. I was watching CLOSELY for the make, model, and license plate number of my driver's vehicle. After only a couple minutes, they called me and said they couldn't find me! I said, "I'm right here, where all the other arriving passengers are waiting for rides." Apparently that was too confusing for them, so they cancelled my ride! This was after midnight! Was I gonna stand there for hours, waiting for another driver with ANY common sense to finally pick me up? I had to call and wake up my husband to come get me. He gets up at 5:00 a.m. every morning for work -- both of us were very angry. It was only AFTER I got home that Uber sent me a LAME-A** message, saying they were going to send ANOTHER driver to the airport to pick me up. Incompetent idiots. read more

I've driven for other ride shares in Austin. Uber takes the most from the fare. They also charge a high set up fee aside from the fare fee. Uber keeps all the set up fee and upwards of 50 % of the fare. read more

I am a first time user -we used Uber because it was raining heavily. Our destination was 1.5 miles away . The normal fare was approximately 5.00. They added a surge charge of 12.00 which is outrageous to me. It took 15 minutes to get to our destination. Driver did not know of the street closures in the downtown area. And I really did not need to know her car may be repossessed for being behind on her bills. Car smelled like smoke. I could not figure out how to make a complaint with UBER. read more

I'm giving 5 stars instead of 4 to make up for the stupid 1 and 2 star reviews from people who didn't check the surge prices before they requested a ride. I've used Uber SO many times. On a bachelorette trip in Dallas Uber helped save us around $150 in cab fees. In Orlando my friend and I rode a taxi one mile to get out of the airport, which cost $15. We took an Uber to our hotel 11 miles away and the bill was like, $18! (don't quote me on that, the high of going to Universal made my brain foggy and the details elude me, but I do remember being blown away by how much cheaper it was than a taxi). I've recommended Uber to many friends, who are all just as happy with the service as I am. Taxis are expensive, usually gross, and the drivers are always rude. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't advocate Uber or Lyft (shhhh let's not bring up the alleged assaults, n stuff). MY ONLY BEEF: The freakin' referral program. I started my uber account back when they let you accrue referral money to use on any ride, for any amount of ride time, and you kept the remainder in your bank. I had like, $60 saved up, then one day it was slashed to $0, because they implemented a new "one time use referral" bullshit program to "remain competitive." Fucking shit to goddamn jesus, I hate that phrase companies use so they can dick people over. I contacted Uber to ask wtf, where's my money for all the people I referred to you? And the rep just told me "we can't prove you did have $60 prior to our rule change, but here's a $20 credit for goodwill." Hey, thanks guys. I understand businesses need to change up their shit as they become successful, but it still sucked to have money taken away from me after I promoted their business, and also the new $20 one time use rule sucks, but what can ya do? My wife recently coerced me into using Uber because, it's true, the public transport and taxi services in Austin are unreliable and inefficient. I was hesitant because it seemed to me that this company didn't follow the same rules that other "official" transportation companies do. We have friends that drive taxis. Well, their service worked well for us the few times we used it but I want Uber and the general public to know that I am so disgusted with the recall campaign Uber supported/initiated against my city council member and their refusal to follow the same rules that taxi drivers do (ie fingerprinting), that I refuse to use them again in the future. It's true, I am so angry at Uber for 1)attempting to write their own regulations! 2)refusing to follow the same rules as other transportation companies 3)threatening to take their ball and go home if Austin requires good-sense safety regulations for drivers 4)forcing a recall of an elected representative of local government because of all this...that I will be my own designated driver again! I would rather not drink on a night out and drive my own self home than support a company that will not follow the rules and attempts to unseat a government official that wants them to follow the rules. While in Austin, we didn't rent a car and decided to use Uber everywhere. Sometimes it would allow me to checkin, sometimes it wouldn't. We started at the airport. That fare came with an airport surcharge. But even after the extra charge, it was still around $20 from the airport to downtown. The drivers in Austin were hit and miss. One time, the girl turned down a wrong road, but she stopped the fare at a certain point because of it. Another time, the girl turned down a wrong road and took us several miles out. She didn't acknowledge it either, but you better believe that her rating from my husband acknowledged it though. The drivers are apparently required to maintain a certain score, so that's assuring that not all of them are bad and mistakes do happen, but don't make the customer pay for that mistake. The biggest mishap was when the premium driver picked us up from the hotel, granted that we had two luggage with us, but we selected our destination prior to pickup, and even when we got into the SUV, we said "do you know where .... ..... is? That's where we are going". After riding for what I knew was way too long, I asked "you are taking us to .... ...., right?" No, he was nearly to the airport! Not only that, he attempted to charge us for the fare! I'm happy to report, that we finally got to our destination, but missed another destination due to the timing set back. And someone later reached out to my husband after he posted his rating and explained the situation. Some of the rides and drivers went smoothly. Overall, I'd use Uber as my form of transportation in Austin again. read more

I've used Uber in Austin probably twenty times. I've had nothing but great experiences. I'm not downtown but even in my non-downtown location it was never more than ten minutes for a car. By comparison I used a taxi app twice while visiting Austin last December. Once they just never showed up. Period. The second time after an hour I called to cancel. I was put on hold for 20 minutes. I tried to cancel thru the app. It wouldn't let me. Then they went ahead and billed my credit card a 'cancellation fee'. As long as I have a chance I will never use a taxi in Austin again. As for surge pricing, the Uber app forces you to acknowledge that surge pricing is in effect. There's absolutely no way for you to not know. In a perfect world Austin could regulate surge pricing better. Maybe that will come. read more

Uber charged $40 dollars in my account with none explanation. I talked to my bank due a fraudulent use but did not reimbursed my money back until Uber do not authorize the fraudulent ride charged. I tried to reach someone but Uber do not have a phone line for riders. I requested help over the application and looks like an automatic machine is answering. At the end they have not resolved my issue with the fraudulent charged and nobody in person is call me back to resolve my problem. Awful, the worse service for clients!!! I waited more than an hour for a driver to accept my request for a ride. If you're reading this next sentence I don't know why. Pretty sure I nailed what you can expect from Uber in the first sentence. I mean, do you wanna wait an hour for a car to go somewhere in Austin? I would think not. At this point you must be thinking, I heard great things about Uber, though. Well I did, too. My expectations were that I'd download the app and have a way to get to cool things around town without having to worry about parking. Alas, not the case. Anyway...since you've actually read this far, maybe I can recommend a movie on NetFlix. Check out the documentary "The Wrecking Crew". It's about the studio musicians who worked with everyone from Sinatra to the Beach Boys. Pretty great stuff! read more
