Here's the thing, public transportation in Austin SUCKS. There's no denying it. Uber has been godsend in supplementing for the complete lack of efficiency with public transit. I've completely stopped using cabs because Uber drivers I feel are given a bit more incentive to give you better service. I love how some people came here to give one star reviews after NYE. Isn't that always the case? The app warns you when there's a surcharge in effect, you are choosing to pay more. That's not Uber's fault. I've always had great drivers, one of which even carried a cooler of bottled water for his riders! A cab driver would never do this. Also, unlike cab drivers who for some reason are scared to use a GPS, all of my Uber drivers have used GPS and very rarely get lost. read more

Booked in advance and Chen agreed to the ride. It was pickup from airport to home. First he was 1/2 hour late, then it looked like he stopped on the way to pick up others. Dropped off that person, then proceeded to another pick up, came back to airport and then left. we could watch his car come and go. Very frustrating. He never responded to texts or calls. Extremely disappointed with Uber's handling of a serious privacy issue that remains unresolved. Someone used my personal email to create an unauthorized account that I never verified. Despite multiple attempts to report it, I've only received generic, automated responses. I can't access or delete the account because it's tied to someone else's phone number and payment info, yet it's still using my email. Even the email address provided for privacy concerns bounced back as invalid. This experience has been frustrating, alarming, and completely unacceptable for a company of this size. At 6:41 pm on 1/5/26 I scheduled an Uber pickup for 1/5/26 at 7:15 pm. Driver JUSTIN (Gray Tesla Plate 10C6AF) accepted the scheduled ride. At 6:59 PM I received an email that the DRIVER cancelled the ride, and they charged ME a $25 fee!!!!! Of course the driver wouldn't answer my call and there is no way of getting ahold of anyone in Customer Service. Had a promo code that I added from my work before getting a ride to and from my work holiday party on Saturday. Uber did NOT charge the promo code, but instead charged ME and my personal credit card even though the price for both trips was over $10 less than the amount of the promo code. Uber felt a need to triple their prices last night in Georgetown, Texas after the Two Step Inn music fest. Rates traveling to the venue were somewhat normal. Rates leaving were more than tripled! Way to go to encourage intoxicated drivers to NOT get behind a wheel!! The price for the ride there was around $30 (12.5 mile distance). A return ride was no less than $90.00 (with other quotes exceeding $100.00)for the same 12.5 mile ride back to a hotel. I understand it being busy and increasing your rates but tripling them, and taking advantage of patrons, REALLY!!?? The same was done to my Step daughter in San Antonio the night before (4/4/25) and more than likely last night as well with the Final Four games and other events goi g on. Every single uber driver I've had the past few months refuses to take tolls and tells me they aren't allowed to or aren't paid for tolls. When I reach out to uber they tell me that's not true and they're factored in. But they refuse to address with these drivers. My house is 9 min from airport with tolls. Without tolls we're looking at 30-40 minutes sometimes. I'm no longer using uber for work trips because it's nearly caused me to miss a flight. Done. read more

The first representative couldn't answer; escalated the question to a supervisor and said I would be contacted by email. Two days later someone responded in the 'chat' not by email. I had a car problem this morning with a doctors appointment . So I called Uber. I got a driver that didn't speak but a few words of English. I had to ask since this was my first time using Uber and I was very stressed how to pay. She could not answer me so I handed her a credit card and she said it didn't work! So I pulled out cash and gave her $80 enough to cover the ride plus a generous tip. When I got into the Baylor Scott and White office in Temple I received a message of my payment. Trash! Booked my Uber for a ride home from a concert FOUR HOURS in advance (for $42) because I knew it would be hard to book a ride when the concert let out. The concert staff had the whole area & surrounding streets blocked off & were directing all ride-shares through one area to pick up their patrons, we were on the curb waiting 30 minutes before our scheduled pickup... Our driver "Mercy" canceled our ride without warning or any kind of notification from Uber... Without even trying to go through the designated pick-up lane like every other ride-share driver was doing... Then Uber decided to double the price to rebook... (93$) when they should (at least) be honoring their original price that Mercy flaked out on for no reason. But ok fine, I just need a ride home... But now there are "no drivers available" for any "class" of Uber. So we stood outside freezing for the next 2.5 hours trying to rebook on both of our accounts... And eventually ended up riding home in a Lyft for $168 because Uber continued to do nothing but fail at their one & only job. I scheduled a trip from Walmart in Manor, TX to my home in Manor, TX. The trip was an easy 5 minute drive. The driver, Carlos, accepted the fare, but never came. He drove in the opposite direction of me, to a park in a different city, and just stopped. He didn't respond to my calls or chats. He wouldn't even cancel the trip. His goal was to make me cancel. I called the Uber Safety line because I had no other way to speak with a live rep, and this behavior was concerning. I actually thought something might have happened to the driver. However, ADT Security said that they had been getting these reports all morning and to cancel my ride and notify Uber. I canceled as I had no choice. I had been standing in the hot sun with my groceries for an HOUR! My trip was supposed to have been an $8.95 trip. However, not only was I charged for a cancellation fee, but I was also charged for Carlos's joyride!! The total they billed me was $21.45!!! Can't find a separate entry for Uber Eats, but I am hating the whole company SO MUCH right now. Their app is cr@p. They added a feature for multiple carts, which might be good in theory, but after I placed an order, I hit "back" on my phone trying to go to my account on the app, and IT FIRED OFF AN ORDER on its own for a different place I'd thought about ordering from a couple weeks ago, but it the grand total looked too expensive so I had decided not to order. At the time I looked, there were no multiple carts, so that order should never have popped up at the same time as a new order, let alone gone through without giving me the opportunity to review it. I tried to cancel immediately, but in the seconds it took to get to that option, the app said the order had already been placed. Then I spent about 10 minutes in chatbot hell, and when I tried again to cancel, it said it was CANCELLING but charging me for the order to compensate the restaurant and driver! The chatbot will not connect you with a person, it just keeps making suggestions about what you MIGHT want to ask, and if you press "something else" or "more options" it just keeps on spitting out random questions. You can't get a rep, let alone a supervisor. Then I managed to get through via phone, thinking surely they would make a refund, since it was clearly a problem with the app, but the operator said he called the restaurant and they had already processed the order -- in under a minute??!?!?!? -- and he couldn't do anything. He kept repeating from the script until I demanded a supervisor, who is supposed to call me back in 24-48 hours. No food, no refund. The operator ultimately seemed a little sorry, but the app malfunctioned and the company's response was basically a shrug. I will NEVER, EVER order from Uber again, and I will be taking Lyft next time I need a ride. read more

I, a lone female, was abandoned by a driver at a STOP in an unsafe area. Drove away with all of my stuff--wallet, keys, medication, work badge, etc. Thank God I still had my phone, but driver would not answer numerous calls and messages to return my things. I could not get any assistance from anyone with Uber. It got dark (unsafe area), blood pressure was through the roof (driver had my meds), so I called LYFT to take me to a relative's home. After about 2 hours, driver texted saying that he hadn't answered because his "English is bad." Gave me HIS address to come and retrieve my belongings. Used Google Translate to compose and send him message saying that HE needed to return my items to me. He did, but the damage was done. I stopped using Uber in 2016 because of a very bad experience. I recently decided to give them another chance. Big mistake!! In the last 2 days, I have had 2 more unacceptable experiences. I requested an Uber at the AirBnB where I was staying. I checked the address before ordering the car because it was an unfamiliar area to me. Soon, the car arrived at an address about a mile from where I was. I waited several minutes, thinking the driver would realize they had made a mistake. Instead the ride was cancelled by the driver. I used Lyft instead. Two days later, I used Uber Eats to have dinner delivered. Everything was fine until the driver arrived. He found the apartment building but not the apartment itself. He did make an attempt to call me, but my phone doesn't accept unknown callers. I went out looking for him but nothing. I tried to call him twice but both calls went to voicemail. I got no satisfaction from the person on the chat feature on the Uber Eats app. He basically told me when I ordered I was responsible for making sure the driver found me! I'm been using Uber and Lyft for several years, in multiple continents. I like to think I'm a savvy user. One feature I really appreciate is scheduled pick-ups, especially for early morning rides to the airport. I've done this before, and appreciated the timely arrivals of our drivers. On May 27, sometime in the afternoon, I scheduled a May 28, 4:30am Uber ride to take my wife and I to the airport. Got up at 3:45am, did all the things to self-prep and wake up, and then, around 4:20am, opened the Uber app to see our ride's status. The app was in "countdown mode", showing me that our ride would be there in 10 minutes, then 9 minutes, ..., and so on. But then, at 4:30am, no ride shows up. The app then says "No rides are available." Then, the app shows no history of the scheduled ride, no evidence that I had even scheduled it. I checked on another ride-sharing service, Lyft, and they had drivers, but the nearest one was 20 minutes away. Adding 20 minutes to our now late departure for the airport put us into the "desperately late" mode where our bags would not have made it in the prescribed time beforehand. So, we drove our own car, and parked at the airport, and then had to make arrangements with our wonderful neighbors and friends to fetch our car back home so we wouldn't suffer the severe financial pain of an extended airport parking fee. I will never again trust Uber for scheduled rides. I may use Uber for on-demand rides, but I'll probably use Lyft, and other ride-sharing services for both. Recently moved here from California. I was impressed with the Texas "hospitality" of the local people. However I have noticed something in regards to rideshares. Some riders have an attitude I rarely saw in California. That being they treat the drivers with discourtesy, like they are "looking down" on the driver. Possibly it's due to the cost of the ride but that is not the drivers fault....or are taxi drivers looked down on in Texas? The driver is usually only making $4 to $7 on the ride and that is before taking out the cost of gasoline and the wear and tear on the car. The Domino's location I chose was on Wells Branch Pkwy and he ended up at the one on Mopac Service Rd.
