I am writing to report an unpleasant and concerning experience I had at this post office today. Earlier today, I visited the post office to obtain a P.O. Box for my Virginia address. Upon arrival, I was assisted by a young woman--a Black female employee with long blonde braids--who initially told me that I could rent a P.O. Box for six or twelve months. When I asked about the three-month option, she told me that three-month rentals could only be done online. Following her instructions, I went to the nearby public library, completed the online process through USPS.com, paid for the P.O. Box, and printed the confirmation receipt. I then returned to the same post office with that documentation. When I presented the printed receipt, the same employee abruptly told me, "That's not the application," in a sharp tone. I calmly explained that I had completed everything online as she had advised and that this was the only document I received after payment. Instead of assisting me, she became visibly agitated, raised her voice, called for someone named "Mya," and stomped off toward the back of the facility while loudly complaining about "angry customers." Her behavior was loud, disruptive, and completely unprofessional. Another employee--man whose name I unfortunately did not get--then assisted me. He was polite and helpful, explained that the document I had was a receipt rather than the application, and provided me with the necessary form to complete on-site. I filled out the form, presented my two forms of ID, and he finalized my P.O. Box rental. Although the issue was ultimately resolved, the earlier behavior of the first employee was inappropriate and unacceptable in a public-facing role. Her loud outburst and combative demeanor were disruptive to both me and other customers in the lobby. It also appeared that her coworkers may have witnessed similar behavior before, as no supervisor intervened despite her escalation. The way she literally stomped away and yelled and screamed as she left me at the desk is similar to how a child behaves when having a tantrum, but because she was not a child, I could only think that she either has serious mental health issues or substance abuse issues. It was really that bad. I would appreciate it if USPS would review this incident and ensure that appropriate action and training are taken so that future customers are treated with the courtesy and professionalism expected at all Postal Service locations. read more

For once enough parking. This is huge. A lot of USPS locations in the DC area are problematic. This one isn't, and if you go right times, not too busy either. Convenient to Springfield Mall, and other attractions nearby. Also close to the Beltway and 95. Ship it, ship it good! Fairly friendly post office. Much nicer than the DMV. Folks here are solid explaining options. Do be careful getting back on to Franconia Road. It can be a race track. Otherwise like this location, and am pleased to go here occasionally. read more

Franconia Road customer service sucks. This is why the post office usually the last place folks try to ship anything. I walked in and they have 1 person working the front desk on a Saturday morning/afternoon. Then someone comes out to help a person but then walks back in the back without acknowledging the line of customers. Do not come here unless you have a book to read while in line. read more

Even by the admittedly low standards of the United States Postal Service, this office is offensively bad in every way. First, you are greeted by a garbage-strewn parking lot overgrown with weeds and unmown, unedged grass. Watch out, because a mail truck may be barreling into or out of the office, and they won't slow down to let you cross. Next, you enter a dirty, dingy, depressing building, smudge-stained doors, peeling stickers, old posters, a mess. When you finally enter the main room, all the usual "civil servant" tricks are at play, all the classics, such as "[Pointing] Line starts over there" when there is no one to get in line but you, or a long, snaking line with one person to attend them and sounds of the laughter of multiple employees ignoring this in the back room. Once you reach the counter, expect not to be greeted at all, except maybe by minimal grunting. They don't even try to hide their contempt for you. "IS THERE ANYTHING PERSHABLE, HAZARDOUS BLAH BLAH LITHIUM BATTERIES" - not looking at you, not listening to you, reciting the lines like a robot, talking over you, sighing when you ask for a cheaper priced service. Absolutely terrible. I came in to speak with the supervisor because my mail carrier to my apartment building continuously comes in without a mask and when I ask him to put on his mask, he says he doesn't have to because "no one is around. "Although he's 2 feet away from me as he saying this. See the pictures I posted of this! I tried for 30 minutes to call the one 800 USPS phone number, I tried calling the Linconia office I tried calling the Franconia office, no one answers. I decided that it was so important to me that I would go in personally to speak to the supervisor. On arrival there were two women at the counter. One of them was a light-skinned black woman with a bob haircut who is instantly became argumentative, Low moments before she was perfectly courteous to a black customer. . I asked to speak to the postmaster general and she said rudely,"we don't have a postmaster general you mean a supervisor, he's not here you're gonna have to come back later. "Low and behold I asked for someone else to help me and guess what? The supervisor was there! Then as I was waiting for the supervisor to come out, the same woman pulled down her mask under her chin several times, then she started to speak to me. I said if "you're going to speak to me you need to pull up your mask " &she said if you're so worried about Covid you can leave." And " why are you coming up in here trying to ruin everybody's Friday?" --All said well she was engrossed on her phone. WOW. When the supervisor came out, he apologized for both instances and I showed him the video that I took The mail carrier in my building not wearing his mask.. He seemed not surprised, honestly, I'm sure he's had many talks with both of those employees. My grandfather used to work for the post office. After he retired from the military after fighting in World War II, it was his pleasure and honor to be a part of the postal system. Those days, as you can see, are long gone. Used used to be done with pride, professionalism and courtesy has now been replaced by People who I don't even know passed a First round interview, let alone we're hired by the government. read more

I came in to mail a package for a friend today and I didn't know where to find the priority envelopes. I asked the female employee at the counter where I might find them. She kept pointing to an area however, I was unable to find the envelope that she was talking about. That was all it took for her to begin to talk to me in a condescending and aggressive manner...all because I could not locate what she was pointing to. The female employee was aggressive, rude and basically treated me like sh*t. Even other customers were looking at me like wt*! I was totally shaken. I needed clear tape for my label and rather than ask for another thing, I took my package and went home for tape. To mail my package, I drove to another post office where I was treated with the respect that was not afforded to me at my own post office. If you are looking to be treated in a kind and respectful manner, don't come to this location. Update: I have made a formal complaint as of today to USPS. Not sure if that will do anything at all however, if you have been treated without normal human decency at this branch...I encourage you to file a formal complaint. Rude and inept. After months of the staff getting angry at me for asking for receipts for pre paid packages. They "made up" a policy that said the USPS can no longer give receipts for prepaid packages and if I wanted a receipt, I would have to use the self service kiosk. I asked to speak to a supervisor several times. One was never available. I asked to see the written policy. It could not be produced. After being forced to use the kiosk, I find that the package drop off slot is randomly locked and package acceptance can take 3-4 days after drop off. Now I go in to find the kiosk not working, I try to politely tell the desk clerk it is not working. I get a surly "guess you gonna have to wait in line" Dealing with that USPS office is one of the worst parts of the day. read more

I can't begin to describe how unprofessionally this place is. On numerous occasions. From the "maintenance man", while flirting with the girl in customer service, and then basically telling the little old man, in line in front of me, that he is an idiot. On a separate day my attempt to applying for a passport, and the girl not asking me for all my information, has delayed my expedited passport to be delayed over 6 weeks. Do not come here for anything! I've never seen one postal worker be anything but rude...even to a little old man buying stamps. read more

I went here today to send out some last minute packages & I had the rudest employee. She was too busy checking her phone, had just a sour attitude, & really acted like she didn't care about any customer that she helped. She even left a charge on the screen from the last customer that I had to ask her twice to remove. She then got loud & defensive when I asked about a shipping cost difference from one of my other boxes. Just a question. I did not need her voice raised at me like she did. I only came to this one because it was close. My first & last time. I would rather drive out of my way to somewhere else then than to come back here. I have read other reviews that seem to be stating the same employee. I hope management takes these review's seriously. read more

This post office is the exact reason the USPS as a whole is failing. I WILL be making a formal complaint to the USPS after writing this. LITERALLY the only pro to this location IS THE location. It's just the easiest place to go, or at least has been for the past two years for me. It's not the cleanest post office I've ever been in and I genuinely felt like I needed to sanitize my hands once I left, but honestly that's at the bottom of the complaints bucket for this location. The biggest complaint I have and the reason I'll be filing an official complaint with the USPS are the employees who are working there. Both are rather disheveled looking, stains on their clothing, not presentable at all. I'd over look this if it wasn't for their horrifying behavior. These two girls are always there and they could seriously benefit from at least some sort of training. PLEASE TRAIN THESE GIRLS! Honestly, they might be beyond training at this point and could likely use some sort of legit counseling. They're always being complained about and they must have been on a roll lately, because another customer complained about them yesterday on Yelp! I was there for maybe 10 minutes and on top of just plain negativity, rudeness spewing out of these two girls, these were some of the not so side conversations being had by the federal employees at this location: "one of my friends is in the Dominican Republic and she got her own alcohol to drink so she doesn't die over there!" "Girl, I hate it when the customers butt into our conversations. They need to LEAVE US ALONE!" "I'm worried for Nicki Minaj and this new relationship" This between literally yelling at customers and using their phones while serving people. One of them threw a piece of paper at me saying I needed to fill it out. She threw it at me, guys...I mean COME ON! I also asked for a book of stamps and the girl serving me said, "I don't have a book of stamps, you'll have to get them from her", pointing at the other employee. Are you serious? YOU DON'T HAVE A BOOK OF STAMPS!? You're the POST OFFICE...ALSO... if you don't have a book of stamps, could you just ask the other lady to hand you over a book of stamps instead of making me wait another 10 minutes while you talk about alcohol and how much you hate the customers? That'd be great seeing as you're taking time out of my day to force me to listen to your ridiculous conversations and provide less than adequate care while I'm simply trying to mail something to a loved one. This is very well one of the largest reasons the USPS is failing. Who wants to take time out of their day to go stand in a dirty facility, while someone acts like you're wasting their time by forcing them to do their job vs. allowing them to chat on their phones and/or each other? Who wants to get yelled at for not knowing which document to fill out? Who wants to be told they can't be served? I'd MUCH RATHER just mail something from Amazon to my loved one or go to a competitor. The USPS has a mortal wound and its their employees. read more

No shipping materials by self serve kiosk. Was just a few minutes past closing and they were still serving customers. All I asked was for a Priority Mail envelope and they wouldn't let me. How about a little customer service? Especially for an entity that is losing money (full disclosure I am fully aware that public service entities such as the post office or public transit number one priority is to be for profit). This poor post office. It used to be very nice, have long hours to accommodate working people, and had everything in working order. Now, as a clear sign of the postal service in budget crunch mode, the hours a very limited. There is a front door to the post office that has been broken for years now (at least 5 or more). I try to use the Automatic Postal Center as much as possible but this past weekend the door to the package chute was broken! It's just falling apart! The workers used to be so friendly and would even remember you if you were in there often. Now they all look miserable and are very grouchy. I was a bigger fan of this post office when they used to have really late hours on weekdays and Saturdays, but the current 6pm close M-F is still the latest in the area and usually saves me from driving out to Merrifield for all but the most urgent of postings. My favorite thing about this location is the counter staff is pretty good at moving the line along - particularly near closing. I also like that they seem to keep the shipping supplies and labels a little better stocked than my regular PO. There's a stamp machine and self-post machine in the lobby so you don't always need to wait for help at the counter. You can also apply for a passport in person here, but you need to make an appointment in advance. Sadly, the most time you spend here will be trying to get out of the parking lot to drive back toward Van Dorn St., Springfield and the beltway. You just might die from old age waiting for a break in the traffic. read more

There is a new worker who is always either on her phone or having a screaming fit about something. Unfortunately today she was the only one there. I was the only one in line. She looked at her phone instead of asking if she could help or calling Next. She answered a question but went back to her phone in spite of me having two packages in hand. She sassed me for not having a label, saying " I don't see no labels!" (Is that not her job?) I said I have QR codes, and she rudely barked "ok then whip it out." I asked politely to speak to someone else, and she said you can wait. I told her I don't know how you get paid being on your phone all day. She sassed me more, said "I'm young, they know what the deal is. You're just privileged." Then yelled "bitch" at me when I walked out the door. I am Hispanic... really? I don't feel safe here. I really can't believe this is what the USPS, a federal institution, has come to. UPS gets my business from now on. read more

I'm not even sure that he was able to fully solve my problem (redirecting a package to the correct address) but either way, he went above and beyond to attempt to get that package to the right place. I have had four packages from an online delivered from this post office and I have not received any of my packages along with others from my apartment complex with ordering from the same clothing vendor. As well as other vendors such as ULTA, FASHIONNOVA, etc. that are missing from multiple people in my apartment complex. I have went down to my mailroom multiple times on different occasions as soon as I get the notification delivered and my package has not been there each time and this is as soon as the USPS truck is pulling away so there is no way that anyone in my apartment complex is stealing the packages. All of the vendors that are missing all have the vendor name either on the box or not he bag so there is no guessing as to what is actually in these packages everyone knows. I have submitted claim after claim and have yet to get an email, phone call, or anything. If my packages as well as others continue to go missing I will unfortunately have to file a report with the police and I definitely do not want to go that route and people lose their jobs. read more

Lobby Open till 6pm. Full service office with all the normal options one would expect at the post office. My suggestion on this trip would be to look into adding a second self serve postal machine. I only saw one in the lobby area and and three people waiting to use it after hours. Wonder how this line builds during the busy holiday season. Still a quick in and out trip. read more

This is the worse customer service ever! There are two young women, both of them are the rudest people I have ever dealt with (and the post office has a reputation for ill mannered employees). When dealing with old people I try to over look bad attitude (usually old or overweight people deal with pain) but these women are younger and attractive to the eye but mean and just vulgar! I have complained to the manager as well but their attitude is "all post office are the same." I don't know what can be done since this is my hood and have to deal with them. Whatever happened to polite and friendly customer service? The concept is all but lost at most Usps offices but most definitely this one. I went in to ship a box "media" mail and was asked right away if I was shipping books. I told them there was one book and one small laminated map, both homeschooling items. The man had the nerve to tell me I needed to remove the map from my already sealed up package because it doesn't qualify. It's probably 1/20th of the weight of the package. I countered that it surely must qualify as media, it's a paper, laminated map. He rudely slaps a piece of paper in front of me with a description of what qualifies as media mail. Right at the top it states "media and educational materials." Further down it states "educational reference charts." Still I'm still told it doesn't qualify and my only option is to spend $10 in shipping on items that are barely worth that much. I took the box back, drove to another Usps, and mailed it as "media" elsewhere no problem. Why on earth would you argue with a customer over a 2 oz map that's clearly "educational material"? Oh right, because you have job security no matter how ridiculous you are and no respect for other human beings. read more

Went on Jan 14, 2019 around 4 pm. Very rude person. I needed to tape my envelope. She asked me to use the scotch tape near her. When I could not locate the scotch tape on her counter space, she grew impatient and started repeating scotch tape, scotch tape, scotch tape as if to remind me what does a scotch tape look like. Female clerk #24 at Franconia Rose HIll Post Office - Needs to find a new job that does not interact with the general public. Her belligerent treatment of the customers is reprehensible. Mask hanging under her chin as she barks out orders as though we, the customers, were inconveniencing her. Indignant if someone asked a question. And heaven help you if you request a receipt for a prepaid package. You are directed to the one and only lobby Kiosk to print a receipt. "Getting ready for the holidays, we can't be taking time to print receipts for prepaid packages!" Even though the customer had already stood in line to ship another package, they were made to go stand in the line at the Kiosk to print the prepaid package receipt. Her rudeness is enough to ruin even the best day someone may have been having. She then passive-aggressively says "Have a blessed day!" Seriously?! Oh, bless her heart! read more
