I moved from Santa Barbara to Connecticut. A friend told me about UPack. I had professional packers pack up my belongings. I had a valuable stone table that my movers took extra time and care to pack. They used packing materials and special packing blankets. My cherished stone table arrived in Connecticut completely destroyed. When I called UPACK they said that they had no idea what could have happened to the table and that they would not take any responsibility for it. I would never use them again and I hope for your sake you don't either. I am uploading the before and after pictures below of my table. The one other thing I would add is I went with UPack because I thought it would be a little less expensive then even just getting a pod. They gave me an estimate that was less expensive but when I received the bill, it wasn't any less expensive. My experience with U-Pack Moving from California to South Carolina was FLAWLESS. This is the best company I have ever worked with, period. They have customer service like no other. Someone ALWAYS answers the phone, they provide tracking of your move, the folks that deliver the cube and pick it up are true professionals. I had originally hired Alliance moving co. because I loved the idea of the company packing and unpacking the truck. I was willing to pay extra for that (I'm six months pregnant). Alliance ended up failing us on EVERY level: No calls, emails, or texts in advance of truck delivery. Truck was sent 24 hours late. The wrong truck size was delivered (by more than HALF). The original quote of ~$4,000 they presented to me when I signed the contract for a 10X15 ft. truck ended up being $8,000 less than what they wanted to charge me on the day of delivery (24 hours late). To this day they have not refunded our $1,000 deposit! I had to scramble to find another company to help with my move as I had flown out to CA specifically to get this done and had a short window of time to do it (I had already reschedule my return flight once after the debacle with Alliance). This lead me to U-Pack! My understanding is that there is a major shortage of trucks right now (many people are leaving CA), which allows companies like Alliance to get away with murder. U-Pack even had an issue getting us a truck when they had originally promised. This was very disappointing and stressful, BUT they truly bent over backwards to make this right. They even refunded me money for the delay! They were truly sympathetic about the stress I'd been through and did everything they could to book me, charge me the right amount (no hidden fees), deliver the truck to my storage unit (which was not easy to do), and pick it up from there even earlier than anticipated! When it was all said and done, I was SO GRATEFUL to finally have a GOOD experience with decent humans who wanted to do the right thing! read more

We are a military family and used U-pack to move across country. From California all the way to Virginia. Our furniture was delivered a day late. This was due to poor communication from the main destination place here in Virginia. They left the truck filled with our household goods sitting in Tennessee. We had to stay an extra night at a hotel due to this. This may not seem like a big deal, but it was. We had a family and two dogs with us. We had been on the road for 6 days. We were exhausted. We had a standing appointment with our landlords to meet them and get our keys and move our belongings in. We had to rearrange everything due to the lack of communication from the U-pack arrival coordinator. This was a huge hassle. They also tried to charge us for an extra ft. Which costs $107 dollars. We made sure to call and let them know we measured it ourselves and it was 17ft. Of trailer used. Not 18ft. They refunded us for the extra ft. we never used. (I suggest you measure yourself as well ) I will say, It was a smooth and easy refund process so that was nice. Almost all of our stuff that was packed against the metal walls of the truck had "road oil" marks. This is due to the walls of the truck being unclean. Strap marks were on numerous items, especially when the guy who picked the truck up made the strap very tight smashing our belongs that rubbed against the strap the whole drive. We had our belongings in the largest truck. Maybe it's a different experience with the Pods. But this truck we used, left our stuff with oil and road dust and sliced our things. I'm just glad they didn't loose our household goods So for that I will give them a star. So 1 star is the highest I can go. UPDATED: I've contacted them on the matter, and they were prompt in contacting me with a link to submit our claim. I'll update this review once we find out how this will be handled. read more

We were moving from California to Texas and I called several moving companies to receive written quotes. All of quotes were upwards of $14,000 dollars. I was going to rent 2 moving trucks but they were also really expensive. I called u-pack to receive a quote and the price was amazing. $4950 to move. I paid and extra $700 to have my belongings there in a week. The truck arrived the day u-pack told me it would. My belongings arrived safely. For me, choosing U-Pack was a disaster. They called me the day before my Relocube was scheduled to arrive at my home and told me that they could no longer deliver the cube to my place. I can't even tell you how stressful that news was for me to receive. They blamed it on a broken forklift, which funny enough they had a perfectly functional one at the service center that I was forced to move all of my stuff to in order to put it inside the Relocube. They gave me a 30% discount, but that was off the original quote to deliver the cube to my place, so it would have cost less anyways. I had to hire movers to help me move my bigger pieces to the Oxnard service center, so I actually paid more for my move in the end. I did receive everything at the other side of my move in one piece, so that's the only redeeming part of my experience. Still not enough to recommend them to anyone, especially when they have no creativity when it comes to customer solutions and no integrity when it comes to making things right with a terrible situation. If I could give this worthless, lying company a 0, I would. We had a trailer delivered to our house in Simi Valley, CA, to pack and then transport our belongings to our new home in Moorcroft, WY. We were told 4-5 business days. The trailer was picked up on the 17th of November. Consequently, a company that values their word, which is to say, have some stinking morals, would have our belongings delivered on the 24th of November at the latest. But NO, we're being told now, it will not be delivered until the 3rd of December, and we were told as much by someone with a sorry attitude named Tara. Not to mention, the trailer is currently sitting at the depot 30 minutes from our freaking house! Idiots! Liars! Don't ever use this sorry, lying company to move anything. read more

The price was comparable to other companies but had the added bonus of being able to have more room (or less in my case) compared with the pod style. The truck showed up when they said they would, picked up when called, delivered in the 5-7 business day window they said. My biggest complement was the fact I really needed the filled truck to be delivered on Friday (rather than the next business day Monday) because I had to go back to work and was trying to get my disabled mom moved into her new place. I called the company and they didn't think they had the drivers to do it, but they would try. That night they called at 5:30 and were able to squeeze us in. It made all the difference and I appreciated them going above and beyond. Everyone I spoke with on the phone at dispatch, the company office, or drivers were courteous and professional. This review is for when I moved across country in January 2014. In my experience, they were easy to get ahold of (and delightful on the phone) when I had questions or when I wanted to switch my method of payment. All costs and fees were up front. The pod arrived on time, was picked up on time, and was delivered across country safely. Drivers at both locations were polite and friendly, and extremely skilled at maneuvering the pods around tight spaces. It was fun to watch. read more

It was a big deal for me to move myself, furniture, car and pets from California to Alaska. I expected it to be expensive and complicated. Fortunately U-Pack really helped and handled the furniture portion of the move seamlessly. I asked so many questions and their staff patiently answered my inquiries and helped me to feel reassured. I was so excited to use UPack and move all of my large items (dressers, tables, bed frames, etc) from the PNW into my new house on the Central Coast. Needless to say the process was miserable and I ended up enduring an incredibly frustrating situation. The company estimates delivery to take about 3 to 5 days, and when my stuff was picked up on Monday from my parents house, I thought I would receive it by Friday at the latest--only having to travel down the coast and not across the country. The movers told my parents it would go to the warehouses in Oxnard, CA--45 minutes away from my residence--but upon tracking it, I saw it went to San Bernardino and San Fernando--areas south of Oxnard--before making it to Oxnard. When it didn't make it to it's terminal location by Friday, I thought surely it would be there by the following Monday. I called Monday afternoon after not hearing anything from the company, and saw online that my pod had finally arrived at its terminal location in Oxnard. After going all summer without any furniture, I was highly anticipating getting my life together and receiving my belongings. However, the woman on the phone informed me the company's delivery fork lift was out of commission and she would have to contact the delivery man for a delivery estimate. She said she would call me back later that day to confirm. When I didn't hear anything, I called Tuesday morning and she sent me to the appointment desk, where the woman said their forklift was broken and they had to wait a minimum of 5 days to receive new parts, then put it back together, then schedule a delivery. I assumed it probably would not be for another week that they would be able to deliver. I then contacted the UPACK company directly, and they said I could pick up the stuff on my own at the terminal--which was not possible because the items were so large and packed, we did not have the ability to move it...which was why we ordered the UPACK in the first place--or she could offer me only $100 off a $1,500 order. With a delay this long and frustrating,I was hoping for at least a third back of the deposit. This is where things got even worse. Familiar with the area of the UPACK storage warehouse in Oxnard, I was aware they were surrounded by other warehouses and storage facilities that more than likely had spare forklift's. When I called the location back to ask if it were possible to borrow another businesses forklift, the woman on the phone was EXTREMELY rude, and did not offer any other options. She blandly responded "no, no, no" to my questions and when I said "there is no need to be so cross," she was silent and did not say anything back to me. I made it clear I was not frustrated at her, just the situation. The woman, Sue, offered no other options, assistance or condolences and was a terrible representative of the company--whether an employee of UPACK or not. I have worked in labor-intensive businesses before and am aware that equipment malfunctions happen, and it takes time to process requests for repair. It is often something out of the employees control. However, as a moving company of their stature, I would assume they would have a spare fork lift or back-up options on hand for when these kinds of issues arise. I realize this post is written in the heat of the moment and I have a bone to pick, I guess I just expected more out of their company. Needless to say I don't plan on using them again. read more

U-Pack in general is a good company. But after you pay and reserve your boxes local office/contractors do the pick up and drop off. I am happy with them overall. But the reason I gave them 4 stars because they didn't pickup my boxes on the day I wanted but delayed by 2 days and that slowed down the arrive of my boxes at the destination. They would only pick up your box if there is a drop off. If no drop off in your area, you are screwed and have to wait. I think the drop off the same as well. read more

We moved from CA to HI. 2 Empty relo cubes delivered on time. The guy was super nice and everything was great. They came and picked them up when I scheduled. Arrived in Hawaii almost a week earlier than expected, so that was great. Again, the nicest people on the phone and in person. I could not be happier with the service. We used U-pack for a cross country move. The rates were reasonable and they were on time in all their dealings. They get a 4/5 because the trailers were pretty dirty with bolts, slivers of wood and pieces of trash/plastic littering the floor. Also, the roofs and ramps were in fairly poor condition. We duct taped holes in the first trailer's roof so it wouldn't leak on our belongings if it rained and both ramps had holes in the already difficult ramps to navigate. The ramps were metal grates with nodules on them - but where some pieces were missing ended up making big holes the wheels of our dolly fell into. Huge pain when moving heavy items yourself. All in all we received our items and I would recommend the service to a friend. However, I would warn them to check the roofs and to have fun with the difficult ramps. read more

Really excellent experience! Moved from a tiny town in CA to a tiny town in HI- they placed the relocube perfectly in my space- didn't damage any plants at the house even tho it was a tight space. very responsive on the phone. They dropped off an extra cube at my request in case my stuff didn't fit- I didn't need it- was surprised how much stuff fit in the cube- even my 10 foot SUP - they didn't charge me for the unused cube. Shipped in a very timely manner- nothing even shifted in the cube- everything was totally intact and in good shape. AMAZING!!!!: Drop off in HI- they coordinated with the manager of my apartment to get it in a really small space- and I am so impressed they were able to get it up that tiny steep windy road and place it so well!! We did the cross country trailer pack. So if, and that's a big IF...You know how to pack your own items and are ready to go and can pack their trailer in the 3 BUSINESS DAYS allotted. That's business days, and day of drop off does NOT count against your time. Need more time, then have your trailer delivered on a Wednesday and you get Sat. and Sun extra at no cost and have it picked up the following Monday or better yet - pack over a holiday - we shipped two loads and did both - plenty of time. But we're not professional movers, so of course there were a few items that got scuffed up and slightly damaged. Communication? The company tells you straight up. Delivery for us was cross country estimated at 5-7 days AFTER PICK UP - and again, day of pick up does not go towards delivery. Fair enough. Central hub AND driver communication was spot on. I tracked the load by their web page. Hub called to tell me when they got the load and expected time to leave for delivery. Hub called me the minute the load left their yard - driver called 20 minutes out from my home. Can't really beat that as I see it. Anyway. 2 -15 foot trailer loads cross country delivered door to door for $3800 bucks? Second load was more expensive as it was in peak moving season and rising spring/summer gas prices. Understandable - Only reason I didn't give them 5 Stars? I had to pack it - of course and the trailers? Well they're just that - semi truck trailers. And you haul your items up and down their ramp which is a very physical endeavor. So be ready. Otherwise - We're happy and highly recommend U-Pack trailer delivery service. read more

We moved from WA to CA. On the northern end of our trip, ABF got 5 stars from me. But once we arrived, the Oxnard office was HORRIBLE. They scheduled delivery of our cubes between 10 and 2. At 2 we called to see where they were. They said they were behind, we would have them by 5. At 6:30 (in the dark), they delivered the cubes, placing them on the ground and pushing them into place, tearing a HUGE gash in the blacktop. After unpacking, we scheduled the pick-up, which they accomplished a day late. There was never any communication from them, they only responded to our phone calls asking what was going on. Horrible service. Don't use ABF in Oxnard. read more

We were planning to get a Pod, but it turned out that the Pod company did not serve our destination. I had a complicated move across several states, and requiring storage for several months in the interim, and was a little nervous about using a company I had not heard of. However, the process went very smoothly. The cargo bed was delivered on time as scheduled, and the driver was very helpful in explaining how to insert and remove the cargo barriers, and reminding us that we were paying by the foot, so to pack tight. We were loading the truck ourselves, and hiring our own helpers to save money, and we were able to keep the cargo bed for as long as we needed (in our case 5 days) and then to call for pick up when we were ready. Everything went off without a hitch. There was a misunderstanding/miscommunication about when the payment was due (upon delivery) due to the fact that we were going into storage for several months - I did not understand that "delivery" was the destination storage lot rather than my home several months later. The staff and accounting department were very accommodating to me throughout the resolving of the misunderstanding, and everything worked out OK. Driver on the delivery end also very kind and helpful. I saved a lot of money on this move, felt the company in general was great, and that the staff were kind, cooperative and helpful - so important during the stress of a move. Worked great for our needs (no couch, bed, or other big furniture items; we dismantled the other furniture (tables, bookcases); mostly boxes; many, many books; bikes; kitchen stuff; clothes; etc.). We *loved* that we were the only ones to handle our stuff. In fact, we chose U-Pack primarily because we wanted to make sure the boxes were securely fastened one time and then not disturbed until we unpacked the cube. The horror stories we had heard about other companies had to do with lost items (wouldn't happen with U-Pack unless the whole Relo-cube were to go missing!) or smashed boxes. We packed & secured our stuff well (used several ratchet tie-downs, some zip ties to hook things to the wall (e.g. bike tires), and otherwise good packing sense), and everything arrived in great condition. Yes, we did have to do all the heavy lifting, and we surely took longer to load/unload than movers would have taken, but we had some friends help on one end of the trip and we knew exactly which boxes to put on the bottom or top of the stacks. We liked and took advantage of the policy of being able to reserve 2 cubes, but not have to pay for a 2nd if we did not need it. We weren't sure if we'd be able to get everything into one, so we had 2 delivered to us. Both cubes fit into our single parking space , so it wasn't a problem to have them both there. In the end, everything fit into one cube, but we were glad to have had the other on reserve just in case. Finally, we needed a company that would store our stuff for a while, since we had not found a place to live in our destination city. Some of the moving companies had storage in cities mid-way along the trip. ABF had storage in our new area, so once they picked up the cube, they were able to send it on its way. It was waiting for us in our destination city when we arrived, and was available for delivery once we found a place to live. As an added bonus: When I called to schedule delivery, I was told it might take a few days because it was a busy time of year, but it turned out they were able to deliver it the next day. In all, we had only one hiccup. On the day of packing, we had a problem with the left-side door: the door sank down on its hinges so that it was slanted and the outer side was hanging lower than it should have hung. We had to use a lever and fulcrum to lift the door up and back into place in order to be able to close and lock it. While we were able to get it closed, we could still see a gap at the top of the door, and were concerned about water leaking in through the gap should it have rained. When we called U-Pack, the guys at the depot said that they would put aluminum tape over the top of the door, to close up the gap, but there was no sign of such tape when the cube was delivered to us at our destination. Luckily, it hadn't rained during any of the points that the cube was outside (and we had put some electrical tape along the inside of the door, just in case), but it would have been better had they done as promised, especially since I spoke to 3 or so representatives and the driver about it. A couple of things: you can call at any time to book a Relo-cube, but to set up delivery/pick up, you have to call during weekday business hours. It's not a big deal, but it's something to plan for, in case you're moving on a weekend. The representatives at the 1-800 number *cannot* help with the particulars of the cube (such as the problem with the door). The drivers/forklift, however, guys were really friendly and helpful. read more
