This post is specifically for the two gentleman that helped me with a difficult task of packing a Barbie jeep into two boxes. They were very adamant about problem solving and helping me make it work in the best and most efficient way possible. Unfortunately I didn't get their names, but it was two African American gentleman in their 20s probably, one with dreads and one with a low fade. Again, they were so helpful and patient and determined to help me solve my problem. They helped me from start to finish and I couldn't be more grateful for their assistance. We rented for 2 1/2 years....$15,000 total and one of the units leaked like a sieve!! U-Haul wouldn't help out at all with insurance or damages. There were thousands of dollars in damages (furniture, mattresses, personal framed pictures of my children) including mold. They claimed to have fixed the leak but never did. Reserving a vehicle online is the best starting location and this one seems to always have a wide variety of vehicles when I pass by. This time around I needed to make a return and purchase of a King Size bed and didn't want to bother anyone of my friends with trying to help out. The reservation process online was straight fwd as I rented the advertised pickup ($19.99 to start) the night before. The biggest issue I had was the online check-in process... That's not the fault of the location, but U-Haul the company. In the email said for me to go through the online check-in process.... It took me 10 mins while sitting in the car to do... (and that's what they want, when you physically arrive to do). After I finally went thru the photos with the ID and more it said I was done but still not, so I went inside. Customer service in my case was good as everything was in place and the final estimate held to the exact cost. Started off at $19.99, but I would highly recommend you get the $10 insurance to cover anything just because it's one less headache. They charge you for the mileage (I think .69 cents) and you have to return it the way you got it in the tank. In all I dropped about $52 for about 3 hours. The pickup truck was clean and easy to drive with no issues. Returning the vehicle was straight forward... similar to a rental car and I back home with a cold one in hand! Would recommend. read more

We booked well in advance of our trip. U-Haul called the day before we were supposed to leave and cancelled on us. The call came in at 3:30pm in the afternoon which left us no time to try and find a replacement. Their only excuse was "our terms and conditions say.........". No apology no trying to help us find another rental just nothing. We are now scrambling to try and figure something out. I had to rent a pick up truck for 8 days and while not the cheapest option, location was close by the house. During a rental, there are many numbers thrown around and exactly what you'll be paying can be hard to understand. When i returned the vehicle, i was told " dont worry , we'll just bill your card as an associate rushed off. That was not acceptable to me and then i met the new manager Brenda who quickly had my vehicle inbounded and my final invoice printed for me in minutes. Correction***This was actually "Keith" not Henry who helped me on multiple occasions for my 5/5 truck rental and one-way drive to Prescott. I had to change it to a RT at the last minute and he still had the requested pads, carts and a nice clean reliable truck available. After the horrible experience I had with another U-Haul location in Mesa, I was given this location from a manager of the day who took my call when I was just trying to get a hitch installed on my BMW X3. I had scheduled this with the other location almost a month ahead. This location really understands customer service and was able to get me in right away. Not just one employee, but all of them were so friendly and helpful, even the gentleman who installed it. I would highly recommend this location if you want to make sure you're taken care of and your install is done as planned! read more

Had an awful experience trying to do a simple task for a neighbor. Took his propane tank to get refilled the girl helping was extremely rude could tell she didn't want to be bothered by an customers. She took the label off the tank stated "she wouldn't fill it because it was older than her." Just super poor customer service. I tried calling the store but with all the overrides to get to a manager. It's not even worth my time or breath. Went to get propane at 3pm on a Saturday. Button is broken. Fine. I find someone who says the propane guy doesn't get here for another hour." Oh you are out? No just we have no "guy" to pump it. Went to rent a truck as I have many times in the past. When gathering information, I was notified that I had to give another phone number including mine. I did not leave my wife's number as I don't need her phone blowing up with unasked for texts so I said I didn't have another number. Apparently, you cannot rent a truck without 2 phone numbers. This is unacceptable. You lost a customer today. I hear Home Depot rents out trucks. I must note the people behind the counter were just fine. They helped me install a hitch on my BMW 328d after another uhaul location said they couldn't. Then we rented an enclosed tow-behind trailer from them. TERRIBLE 1. If all of my stuff is in storage at your location and I call your location I expect to speak to someone at your location. Not to be transferred to a customer service line because YOURE NOT ANSWERING YOUR PHONES. 2. I was being mailed keys to my uhaul storage. I never got them. I verified the address with them and it was correct. All I was supposed to do was wait for them. They never came and they made me pay for a lock smith. Maybe it wasn't their fault entirely. Maybe they got lost in the mail but they were the last to have them. It's just all around shitty customer service honestly. read more

In a world where customer service does not always seem to be the top priority, it was especially refreshing to walk in and have a friendly smile at the front desk waiting for me. Staff here was very accommodating. I had an electrical issue in my truck that prohibited the lights on my rental car dolly from working. Luckily, one of the roadside assistance technicians was on site for another reason, and he happily came over and helped me diagnose the problem. He Replaced a couple fuses in my fuse panel, at no charge, and got me on the road. Fantastic service from a fantastic staff. Highly recommend. read more

In my years of renting equipment from U-Haul, in general, I have come to set my expectations rather low. This time I had issues with the U-Haul website losing my hitch install order and processing my trailer rental order to the wrong location at Arizona Avenue and Knox which is a little over 15 miles out of my way. I called up this Chandler and Kyrene location and Jim picked up the phone on the other end. I explained the issue that I had with the hitch reservation and he immediately set to work on getting my appointment setup for a hitch install (and he still got me the -$10 online booking discount as well). Also was able to get my trailer reservation transferred from the remote location to this one nearer to my house. Jim told me to drop the vehicle off around noon on Wednesday and they would have the Class II hitch and wiring harness installed by the end of that day no problem. On the day the hitch was installed we spoke to Randall and explained the problems we had with the website. He double checked our reservation to confirm that the trailer we requested would be available for pickup on Saturday (today) when we needed it. He had the foresight to ask what we were hauling (a medium size Go Kart for the kids) and suggested that he upgrade is to a slightly larger trailer with a ramp for no additional charge. On the day of trailer rental, we went to pickup the equipment but it turned out the trailer we wanted was late for return by the previous renter and thus unavailable. Randall upgraded us again (free of charge) to an even nicer trailer with dual axles and a ramp to make sure we were on our way to pickup our new Go Kart. Eric walked us through the trailer hookup and explained everything using on our newly installed hitch and we were on our way. Got the Go Kart home and returned the equipment same day with no issues. The guys here were super friendly to me (and my family) and even though some crap beyond their control came up, they went out of their way to make it right . I won't be going to any other U-Haul in the future and I will skip using the crappy U-Haul website and call here direct next time. Thank you guys! read more

These people clearly don't know what they're doing. I rented a truck for a few hours and returned it the same day. They even emailed a receipt with my ending mileage. The next morning I woke up to a frantic voicemail accusing me of not returning the truck. I had to call U-Haul and plead my case. WORST customer service ever! I never leave reviews, but if this review stops someone from doing business with this U-Haul in specific, GOOD! My husband and I are moving and rented a truck. We needed to extend our rental for another day. We called and stayed on hold for an hour because everyone one was "busy". Obviously we ended up having to drive to the actual office and stayed on the phone while driving and guess what we see?!? 2 employees standing around while watching their other 2 co workers VAPING IN A GARAGE and 1 employee actually working!!! The young lady went over my paper work told me to give a few minutes while she pulled up my truck. Truck was Clean no rips in the seat no cigarette smoke and not dust. This a review of U-Haul management which is quite awful. Went in to this location, which is closest to the house I am moving out of, to request a trailer two weeks in advance (of which I was told they had a number of those size trailers). Now the day before we are supposed to pick up the trailer, I get a call saying the only location for all trailers available is in Queen Creek. That is a 52 mile round trip difference, not to mention the time lost that I was planning on being able to pack after work, but now have to spend driving to and from this place. Only compensation given was to pick it up a day early, which I have no time to do even if I wanted to. This a terrible case of mismanagement and a huge inconvenience for me a customer. I could understand if I had tried to get a trailer last minute, but when I have done this in advance to avoid something like this I just don't understand and pretty upset about the way this was handled. I guess my advice would be to not have high expectations of customer service and plan to have to spend more time than you think in order to prepare to move when using U-Haul. read more

I wish I could give no stars or negative stars. The leadership of this facility is lacking. We rented a 20x10 large unit for the past 20 years. Anytime we had a question or concern the staff was incredibly rude. We had this on auto pay and called to change credit card numbers. We gave the new information to an employee and they stated they updated our records (this was a card we do not use). Later that night our credit card company calls us about several thousand of charges to our card. They were all from a neighboring town including a pizza delivery. When we went to UHaul the following day they claim we didn't update anything. When we asked to speak to manager, we were told he was busy updating his picture for his business cards. I have left 4 messages about this and never received a single phone call back. I wouldn't trust this staff with anything. We since moved all of our stuff out. read more

I had a hitch installation set for 7/19 and I called and spoke with Ken to see if I could drop off my vehicle for Monday install and he says sure. when I get there to drop off my vehicle, all the crew was in laughing and smiling and I felt very confident that they were gonna take good care of me. So I leave and I get home and sit down, not 20 min later I get a call that my call is ready for pickup. I was absolutely estatic in 15 min I was walking back in to pay my bill. Ryan was a God send and went above and beyond when I explained my situation that I needed it completed ASAP. Although this location was booked up for the day, Ryan was able to locate another store that was able to do it. Instead of telling me he couldn't do it, he made the extra effort to help, which is unfortunately rare these days and I would like to recognize Ryan for his outstanding customer service. Went there on 6/9/18 and waited about 15 mins...The guy doing the paperwork was ok....Declined there insurance....I figured at $29.95 a day and .99 cents a mile i thought my bill would be around $75 but it was $196.99....When i seen bill they charged me $118.86 for a chip on windshield....Different guy pulled up 15ft truck and i took off....What i don't understand is why they didn't do a pre trip inspection with me before i left there yard well they told me when they get busy they don't have the time? You should make the time to do that...The 43 miles that i drove the truck no rock or any object hit the windshield and i sure would of heard it...I've had rocks hit my windshield on my car on these freeways here and i sure as hell heard it. Anyway brought the truck back and no post trip was done with them and they had a big line already. Guy said give me the key and we will send you receipt via email....These charges went on a family members card. Bottom line they should take the time to do pre and post trip inspections with there customers. Honestly i will never rent from there again. Horrible Customer Service at this Uhaul location. Called me on the day of our move to tell me they don't have our truck or trailer at that location. Sent me to another one in Sun Lakes (15/20 min the other direction away that I was going) and they gave me a $30 credit and the extra miles to go get it. First of all Very inconvenient second I spoke with Lucas and told her that $30 was unacceptable because of this inconvenience and she said they would do better. I got to the second location and Nope no other discount but the $30 and we tried calling and Nope No answer 3 times(sent it to 800 service) Got to second location and they had the truck and trailer and when we got in it it Smelled so bad of cigarette smoke and was filthy that we had to decline and have them find me yet another location that had one. finally Got one in back in Chandler at yet again another location. I would NEVER recommend this Location as they ruined a whole day that should have been a easy transaction. Scammers! My guy and I rented a truck from here for a quick trip to Scottsdale and back. The girl at the counter was not very interested in customer service and did not seem to know much of anything about the company. She did not even know how to process the storage locker we wanted to empty and return the key to... The truck its self was very clean and ran fine. When we picked up the truck we were told to return it with 1/2 tank of gas or there would be a $30 fee plus $5 per gallon. So we knew we would be stopping to fill up on the way back. The gas gage was acting kinda funny during the trip but we didn't think much of it. When it was time to return the truck the gas gage said we had 3/4 of a tank remaining, so we just went straight back to the lot. The worker looks through the truck and everything seems fine. My guy decided to look at the paperwork before paying and it was marked that the truck only had 1/4 of a tank. We were shocked and pointed out the mistake since the fees would have been so high. It was then we were told the gas gage was backwards... What!? The staff acted like it was no big deal and even tried to blame the truck manufacture. I have never seen a new vehicle with a backwards gas gage in my life. These scam artists had it flipped in order to trick people tired from moving all day into paying their ridiculous fees. We came in to buy some rolls of packing tape. The guy at the counter Mark Kemp, was rude right off the bat. He offered no help, and was staring at my friend and I the whole time. As we proceeded to walk up to the counter, he spit a nasty brown spit wuad right in front of us. Nasty. As we proceeded to checkout, the debit card swiped didn't have correct info on it and he asked us if a certain symbol was on the screen, it wasn't and he made the most disrespectful sigh. As we left we said thank you, and he replied yep. Just to let you know, I'm not ever coming back to this place because of that. **Since writing this review have I rented from this location SEVERAL more times. They are literally the best U-Haul outfit around. Aside from that one time when I had to call them direct to make my reservation, I've made all of my reservations via their website. Super easy. I've since moved away from the area, but as part of that process I used their U-Boxes to ship my stuff cross-country. That process was also really easy. I didn't have my own pick-up truck so I rented theirs. Once I filled a U-Box I'd return it to their location and they'd do a swap out right there and the next U-Box would be hooked up to the truck and ready to go. They were even nice about the little things - like quickly replacing the moving blankets that I had to drive back for when I found they weren't loaded into one of my U-Boxes, no questions asked, and checking the padlocks I purchased from them to make sure they all worked properly before I left the place. ----- I recently rented a pick-up truck from this location, for a 4-hour period. I couldn't get the online reservation system to work so I made my reservation over the phone. I called on a Sunday morning for an afternoon rental. The truck was available and I made my reservation. The woman on the other end was super sweet and set everything up quickly. When I got to U-Haul I waited in line for a while, because the customer in front of me didn't speak English well so was having trouble renting. A second customer service rep noticed this and offered to help us at another register. He was a nice younger guy, who took me through the process quickly, confirmed my rentals, went over the insurance policy with me, and then met me outside to pick up the truck. Got in the truck and left. Easy peasy. The truck itself was nearly brand new with just over 1000 miles on it. Pretty smooth ride and we commented on how the seats were like cozy couch cushions. Returned the truck 4 hours later, while they were still open. As soon as I pulled up to the return I was greeted by the drop off customer service rep who was, like the others, unquestionably friendly. He asked me how the truck was, and if I had a chance to fill it up, which I did. He offered to send me my receipt over email, or he could obtain a printed copy if I wanted to wait a couple of minutes. I said email was fine. DONE. No issues. I rented from this same U-Haul location in 2011 but I can't remember the experience too much, which I suppose is a good thing. I had rented one of the small box truck rentals. I went up too my storage unit at the Uhaul facility on 1/9/16 and when I opened my unit door I noticed that there was boxes pushed too the side ... I noticed that three pieces of furniture was gone out of my unit and I notified the manager of that facility about the missing items... And the manager told me I had too file a claim with the Uhaul company ... I couldn't believe that the manager wouldn't look into it making me feel suspicious... This place is ridiculous. We scheduled an appointment for a hitch installation online and had a reservation # and confirmation email, when we showed up they did not even have someone there that could put the hitch on. They didn't even seem to care that we drove 45 minutes to get there with two vehicles so we could drop off the one that needed the hitch. They said we could come back the next day to have it installed at 2pm, when we showed up they said it was going to be an hour before they got to ours and it would take a few hours. Five hours later and it still wasn't done. I am a customer service supervisor and we bend over backwards to give great customer service, this place really needs to work on that. I never do reviews on yelp, but this was petty bad. Dropped off at 2pm wasn't done until almost 8 pm. read more

I've used Uhaul for moving and storage for over 30 years and have been to many of their locations with varied experiences and results. I used this location to rent a trailer for the weekend. I can't recall the names of the 2 gentleman that helped me but they were very professional. The lights wouldn't work on the trailer and they troubleshooted everything and eventually determined my truck had a blown fuse. They researched and found the proper fuse location in the truck and replaced it. It took some extra time but I didn't feel it was their duty to fix the problem but they did.
