MANHATTAN/West Village: Ty's Bar is one of New York's 1st gay bars and they have the most friendly staff and customers we've come by anywhere! Reasonably priced drinks, TVs to watch the game, and great overhead lighting make it a magical spot to hang out with your dog. Leashed and friendly dogs are allowed inside and there is a huge tub of dog treats. Brie made a lot of friends with her cuteness! It's a small place, but a lot of fun!

Ty's is one of those great gay bars that feels like home even if you are visiting from thousands of miles away. It has a great neighborhood feel, but welcomes visitors. The vibe reminds me of Kings Arms in London, StreetBar in Palm Springs, CA, or Pilsner Inn in San Francisco.

This place is still cliquey, still early pandemic recovery days so little sexual undertone. Great bartender still there

A nice bar, especially if you like the older crowd. Fairly divey as well. So I felt pretty comfortable regardless of being by myself.

Are you a no-attitude classic gay bear in NYC. Then this is the friendly neighbourhood bar for you.

The Dickens - Cobb salad add steak

The Dickens is a great find especially in the theater district which can be overly touristy and…read moreexpensive. The bar/restaurant has 4 floors including a roof deck, each with a different vibe. We made a reservation for the Martini bar on the 2nd floor. We were seated at a high top. The room had a speakeasy look and feel. The martini was great and you order it by selecting from the build your own martini menu. I went with Goose, extra dry, stirred, blue cheese stuffed olive. Oh, and it comes with delicious bottomless French fries! For dinner we ordered the skirt steak and since we had the bottomless fries with our martini the server offered us a swap since it came with fries. I chose the salad. We also ordered the shrimp risotto which was phenomenal. The shrimp were grilled and had a nice hint of smoky wood and the risotto was done with an amazing seafood broth. The steak was cooked to perfection and the salad was delicious and not a standard salad by a long shot. This place is not only a fantastic value with most dishes under $25 but the food and cocktails are top notch. Oh, and the service couldn't have been better. The location is also great if you are catching a show. After dinner we walked 1/2 a block to see Book of Mormon. This is a diamond in the rough in the theater district, or even if not in for a show it's worth the trip.

First thing's first: While The Dickens is not categorized as a gay bar on Yelp at the time I'm…read moreposting this review, that's exactly what it is. The old adage of "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...." definitely rings true here. There's a rainbow flag hanging out front, a rainbow sidewalk near the host stand, their logo features a rainbow of colorful drink glasses, there's a rainbow of colored posters leading up to the 2nd floor and on the night we stopped here, the only patrons were gay men. This place seems like it'd be pretty amazing on busy weekend nights; my only regret is that we didn't find it until we happened to walk past on our last day in NYC, and due to other things on our schedule, we didn't have the chance to stop here until late that night when the rooftop and upper floors were closed. That late, only the main bar just inside the entrance was open, and there were about 3 or 4 tables full of guys in the place along with a few seated at the bar. We both just ordered a beer as it was the end of a long day and we were flying out the next morning. The bartender was fast and friendly and we really liked the look and vibe here. Hopefully we get the chance to return again on a busy Friday or Saturday night on a future trip to NYC to experience The Dickens at its best.
