There were at least five tables available inside the restaurant and only two occupied with couples and I wanted to sit inside, but she didn't allow me to sit where I wanted to sit so she sat me outside. There were mosquitoes it was dusk. I wasn't too happy plus it was windy, but anyhow, I ordered a Scooby and I asked her was it the Scooby like the ones that they serve in coconuts in Fort Lauderdale it is like oh yeah it's the same chef that worked there but they serve it a little different well when her Scooby's came they were the size of my pinky and it was seven of them and it was $27 very overpriced. I also ordered fish and chips which she said was extremely popular, it was so greasy that I asked for some paper napkins and she brought me two paper napkins, and I put one of the pieces on top of the paper napkin and it was soaked, so I asked her for more paper napkins and she brought me some more paper napkins and then I just got grossed out. It was too much grease. I ordered a glass of wine their house wine. And my total bill for one person was $67. They never asked me if everything was OK so I just paid the bill paid the tip and left. I wouldn't recommend that place to anybody.

    Lakeview Restaurant

    Lakeview Restaurant

This is lengthy, apologies. My experience with Lakeview…read moregoes back 35 yrs, going there with folks and now as an owner myself. It's always been a great value and good food. We as owners "own" it, it's not open to public and of course the prices are reasonable given the give and take of Board...bless their hearts... and residents, and the weird dynamic that it can stay in business while losing money. Yet with Lakeview's value, I don't go there often enough, and most owners don't go at all...some sell their food cards at a loss. Last night I had salmon, she had soul picatta. It was very good! Chicken noodle soup a minor misstep and not the end of the world. Buy top shelf soup from a purveyor and be done with it. Continuing... "Flaming Desert Station" nice but waste of time and manpower, a gimmick that has to go. Include a dessert served from kitchen. Don't charge $2.25 for coffee. The restaurant is not open to public so I'm not giving away anything and the residents of P.I. already know, but, we're only open 2 nights a week and there is no chef! Kudos to Alan for more than holding up his end upstairs and downstairs in Chippers!!! Alan is a valuable asset. The hoity-toity menu has to be phased out, i.e., Baby Lamb Chops etc. The Board might have found some solution of sorts for breaking even by being open only two nights plus Sunday buffet, but seriously, there's no rent or owner needing to make a profit, there's no extravagant Chef salary...it's an imperfect solution. Lakeview should be a crown jewel of P.I., adding value to P.I. The fancy menu made sense back in day. Alan has figured out how to do that menu with no spoilage, only open two days, that's incredible! The food was good last night! Don't take away the Sat night menu from the loyal folks that do go there for fine dining at very reasonable price. I humbly propose this first step in making Lakeview an asset instead of liability. "All You Can Eat Ribs/Shrimp" on a Friday night. Admit Friday is a work in progress and start on high side of price always explaining to resident's that the Friday idea is to fill the place but not have it overrun on day 1 by giving away the meal, and price will be adjusted accordingly. And maybe some sort of "mission statement" posted outside saying that demographics always change and Lakeview is a work in progress, but we all fail if we don't support our own restaurant. Ask for support from residents if we are ok losing a bit of money temporarily, but on high volume, not low volume like we have now. To the Board...and some of us have said as much at meetings...give us comfort food and great value on Tues, Wed (already in place) Thurs and Friday. Frequent reminders that it's our restaurant. Double the price of the food card if these changes work. It could be a virtuous circle. What restaurant wouldn't die to have 3000 units worth of $175 ($350) food cards as guaranteed revenue. Everybody mumbles as much under their breath. Open the ballroom doors even if it's not used. Would give a feeling of spaciousness to go along with fabulous view of lake. p.s. the staff upstairs and downstairs is fabulous. Shout out to our CBS's John Dickerson lookalike. I showed him a pic of the CBS news anchor last night. He, Alan and the rest are really good people. Last question is to me. This is a weird place to post, will anyone ever see? Might be a good thing. This kind of short story critique doesn't usually go over well.

So we went at 7pm on a Wednesday. What's playing on TV was not available, was told to use QR code, so easy peasy. So the counter staff was pleasantly, we ordered: rabbit hole salad and the patty melt to go. Maybe should be eaten there, right away. Didn't stand up to a quick ride home. BOTH meals looked sad and not worth $50, as was $20 each, gave $3 tip for to go. Probably won't return! It's probably great for vegans who don't require quality or taste, just gut it out to remain vegan. Salad had no flavor really, it was " overdressed", just kale dressed in an underwhelming sauce. Tons of it where it was soggy. Chips of fake chicken I guess, that was flavorless. Partners patty melt was just so so. I'm sad! You ever wanted to really like something, so you force it. We love going to local spots to support folks but we demand excellence. I wasn't expecting Coopers HAWK, but wanted some flavor. It's like not even as good as Whole Foods, which is pricey like this but good. Patty melt was average, and not worth $20. The onions saved it, but too expensive for us. Fries were limp, not well made. Now I will say, we do go to dives, so we didn't need Sonness (by the way Sonness is beyond fab!). So, we can do " dive vegan" but we cant do expensive average. It survives because often the beach crowds are too tipsy or high to care, or average is OK due to being snowbirds. Im sure these reviews aren't fake, so will chop this up to a bad night for the cooks! Stop by if you are vegan, committed to this lifestyle, then its good enough. We are in good shape medically, have more allegiance to our wallet than a movement. My partner makes great, fresh salads, so I can stay home for below average greens. But if you are committed and need to just get out, try it. I think a vegan frozen meal, Amy's is better. The salad wasn't horrible, just not worth the price. $20 for soggy, no flavor. Nope! I need flavor, price, freshness mix. Also they could do better with the ambiance. When you walk up, it seemed sad. It was empty, but zero personality. They need some music, it was quiet, somewhat moodless! Even dives have a little music. Rabbits have music LOL! Wish them luck! They have been around a while, so maybe they had better days! Why show stuff on TV that's not offered, pretty photos but disappointing for us. Good news, they are surrounded by great things, Italian to the right, Max to the left, pizza to the left. And Foundry at the end of other side! Partner ate half burger, trashed it. I ate 1/4 salad, trash. $50 in the garbage. I gotta laugh as we sat in our couch, we walked in and after 10 min, the energy felt off to me. We read the menu first. I said to my mate, "let's go elsewhere" after staff said, don't have this or that. My mate said, lets see. I went along. Intuition is never wrong! Trust yout gut, give it a try! Maybe tonight was just an off night! Go try it! Maybe it will be better for you! Im sure those reviews are real but maybe that real cook was off, amd we ended up with the no talent crew!

The reception staff seated us quickly, and our waitress wasted no time bringing drinks and our appetizer. We started with the creamy spinach and chips, rich, flavorful, and with just enough kick to keep you dipping long after you're full. Definitely a must-try. For the main course, we had the Southern fried chicken with gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The chicken was freshly fried and bursting with flavor. The green beans looked like they might have come from a can, but somehow they were super soft and still delicious. The shrimp pasta Alfredo, however, could've used a little more zing, it was good, just a bit shy on personality. We washed everything down with the $3 Bud Light special and a house margarita. The margarita did show up with a sugar rim instead of the salt we asked for... and our server didn't offer to swap it out. Oh well we survived . Overall, the food is what makes this place shine, and it's good enough to bring us back again. Next time we'll just double-check the salt.

They did such a great job giving the place such a fun atmosphere that keeps people coming in for more than just coffee and cinnamon bread. Now for someone who isn't big on sweets or cinnamon rolls the classic cinnamon bread was absolutely DELICIOUS and the maple bacon was a yummy hit as well. The bread arrived warm and smelled absolutely amazing. It wasn't too sweet which I loved and you can really taste the cinnamon flavor in the bread and appreciate the warm fluffy bread without being overly sweet. It was just DELICIOUS! Price wise $10 the classic bread was well priced, I'd be back for the classic cinnamon bread, but at $15 I thought the maple bacon was a little overpriced for just adding a little bit of bacon to it. They were amazing and they weren't spears or slices they were bite size barely breaded (yay!) bites with a little bit of heat sauce. So good! They are obviously not made from frozen and are soooooo good! We then had the pretzel bites. It came with a thick cheese sauce that had a kick. My husband and I loved them too!
