My brother noticed that a restaurant called Pollo Campero (rustic in Spanish) was ranked #2 for fast food chicken chains in USA Today's 10Best list. Since it was close by our hotel, we took a walk there for dinner: two chicken restaurants for consecutive meals was probably too much. Pollo Campero is primarily a Central American fried chicken chain, with 350 locations worldwide. It was originally founded in 1971 in Guatamala. They are currently in a rapid expansion in the U.S., with this location being one of a dozen in Florida. The state with the most is California, and I'll have to look out for them when back home. You order and pay up front, just like a fast food restaurant. But the food was delivered on real plates and metal utensils to our table once ready and it came very fast. 4 piece Fried chicken with campero beans and campero rice ($15) - I thought the fried chicken was OK. It did come with a dippable campero sauce, a mayo based sauce with spices. The rice was decent, but wish the beans were a bit different than the standard tasteless pinto beans. Campero sandwich ($7.60) - version of a chicken sandwich. Good brioche bun, and a decently juicy fried chicken breast. Campero Bowl ($12.40) - wasn't very good and ended up being very dry. The grape tomatoes were mushy and not edible, and the greens were limp. The fried chicken on top didn't really add much flavor, and the rice was dry with the pinto beans being the same. I did like the avocado chunk along with the corn salad. Individual empanada ($3.10) - small, very thin crust. The filling was tasty but there wasn't much of it. It has a self serve soda machine with Pepsi products. Since the plates were reusable, assumed that they would bus. read more

At 6pm on a Friday afternoon I ordered crispy chicken sandwich, chicken nuggets and yuca. All were extremely dry and inedible. Tasted like the food was left over from lunch and kept under a heat lamp for 6 hours. Service was poor and unprofessional, and the young lady working the drive up window was having a conversation with another worker and essentially ignored me. read more

I've had pollo campero before. Happy to see they are opening more locations. Got the 4 piece crispy with rice and Mac. For the price, they could definitely step their game up on the sides. Unfortunately not worth the money for a fast food place. You get more portion on sides when you go to a mom and pop shop. Not sure why they are so stingy. Everything however was extremely delicious. But for the price, I don't think I would come often. read more

Service is really good and they are always happy to fix any mistakes with no questions asked. The restaurant itself is very clean inside and a nice vibe, a lot of Hispanic women working. Pollo Campero hit the spot for dinner. I got the classic chicken sandwich with the yuca fries and campero sauce as well as the buffalo sauce. This is the second one I have gone to, the first one I went to is in Miami Gardens. There was a steady stream of cars in the drive thru but they still manage to move pretty efficiently. If you want a good quality and affordable meal then Pollo Campero is a good choice. read more

We stopped in Pollo Campero for a quick to go dinner on Sunday. The place was very clean with only a few other patrons. We ordered a spicy sandwich, 2 piece fried chicken meal with mac n cheese and a 4 piece mixed meal with yuca fries. We actually enjoyed everything. The fried and grilled chicken were both very tasty and the mac n cheese was rich and creamy. The spicy sandwich wasn't really spicy itself but the sauce on it added a nice zing. We asked for one of each sauce which they had no issues with. The creamy jalapeño and buffalo were our favorites. They also have horchata, mango and Jamaica drinks available. We tried the horchata and found it really good. I'm sure we'll try it again for a fast, easy chicken meal. read more

Service was very good as they had every executive from the company making sure the experience was superb. The flavors range from mild to spicy, and they have a variety of chicken meal sizes. I'd been waiting for ages for Pollo Campero to open, and it finally did last week. I opted to go through drive-thru, but I could see that the inside was packed. At the drive-thru, the person on the other side of the microphone could barely hear me, it sounded very loud on their side with a lot of people talking, he had me repeat myself several times, and by the time I got my order through, I thought everything was correct. I got to the window and the type of chicken that I want and some add-ons were incorrect, but they were happy to adjust everything to correct it. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, with mac & cheese on the side, and a two piece meal with fried yuca, to enjoy the next day. The sandwich was not very spicy, and the chicken was a little bit dry, but it did have really good flavor. The mac & cheese was surprisingly, really good, and it reminds me of a better version of KFC's. The grilled chicken was amazing, and I was expecting it to taste like the competition (Pollo Tropical, La Granja, etc.), but it had a very unique set of spices on it that made it taste original and juicy. The fried yuca was made perfectly and I asked for a side of their campero sauce to dip with, but I really wasn't a fan. It tasted like BBQ sauce mixed with ranch. read more

Went to try this new chicken place originally from Guatemala. Everything was very good . Chicken was moist, juicy, and tasty. We tried both the fried and grilled. The black beans are flavorful. The sweet plantains are also very good and well above average. Overall, this restaurant's food is good quality and tasty but a bit expensive compared to other chicken restaurants in the area. Food is good in flavor but the portion for the price is a rip off! I ordered a campero bowl and the size was enough for a 5 year old child. It looked like a kids meal for $13 that I paid. Not sure about the portion size on their other items, but definitely don't order the bowl if you are hungry. It's big enough for a kid, not an adult. read more

I had been waiting for this place to open since I passed by daily on the way to and from work. I was really happy to see that it was open and ready to serve. Upon entering, we noticed that it was packed, which was a good sign! We decided to go for both the grilled and fried chicken, the Campero rice, the yucca, and the mac & cheese. Everything was delicious, and the chicken was perfectly seasoned. I also tried their hibiscus juice, and it was very refreshing. It was quite a bit of a wait to get our food, but it was understandable because it was extremely packed inside of the small space. I ordered take out from this place, I had been wanting to go since it opened. I ordered the 9 piece chicken nuggets with yucca fries and plantains and a horchata. Was pretty expensive for the portion size as a fast food joint. I live only 2mins away from here and by the time I got home opened everything it was a disaster. The nuggets were the size of a quarter but there was 9 in there. The chicken was dry and over cooked and the breading was hard as a rock and all you could taste is salt. The plantains were ice cold and I had to pop them in the toaster oven for a bit. Not impressed. The yucca fries were a decent portion but the veins were still left in tact and made up half the fries. They too were dangerously undercooked and went in the toaster oven. The tortillas were literally right out of a store bag, not toasted or anything, very low quality and inedible. The sauce I ordered for my meal was put in a little black cup with no lid and spilled over everything. I didn't notice at first that the sauce was dripping out of the bottom of my bag and got all over the floor. It was good, and I would have liked to enjoy it on my food. And the horchata that I ordered tasted like cinnamon water. I do not recommend this place at all. I reactivated my Yelp account just to rate this. 0/10 read more

Writing this review in hopes they listen. I work at the hospital across the street. I love the food here, it has great flavor. My main issue is the portions. The chicken was fine BUT the black beans and rice are tiny and to top it off they don't fill up the container (at the very least).
