They offer a wide menu of food, but we went for the Friday special: a pint and 4 chicken tenders for some crazy deal. This is the BEST Happy Hour offering I've ever come across. And it's Open until 2AM every night of the Week. Much of the cuisine is NOT CANADIAN, but some of it is, like a long list on the Menu of different "Poutines" (a specifically Canadian Dish of French Fries with a number of toppings, like cheese, chili, gravy, sauce, duck, offal, sloppy-Joe meat, stew, etc.). SOME THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE OF CANADIAN CUISINE: Canada has a great restaurant scene. Vancouver has the best food I think, (maybe better than Toronto's), and to some extent, so does Québec, and maybe even Montréal (although Montréal has focused on more 'niche dishes,' like bagels, & pizza). Food-wise, mostly only two cultures have made Canada what it is today: Chinese, and to a lesser extent, French. Outside of these, the third greatest positive influence on the Canadian food scene are the indigenous cultures and the many ancient local ingredients. So if you aren't going to eat "Duck Confit" or "Pâté de Foie Gras" in Québec City, or "Fried Lobster in XO Sauce" in Toronto, you'll be feasting on "Grilled Moose Steaks" in upper Saskatchewan, or "Stewed Seaweed-Berries with Salted Giant Cod" up on the coast of Labrador. Truly, Canada had a unique and underrated World-Class Culinary Scene that has yet to be discovered and explored by the more influential palettes on the planet. I just wonder which of the great (non-US) food cities will be the first to open an authentic "Canadian Restaurant," Paris, Amsterdam, Dubai, Tokyo, Sydney, Singapore, Geneva, Shanghai, Berlin, etc. My money is on Tokyo or Amsterdam. Tokyo because they are taken-in by fads there, and Amsterdam because it was the first city in Europe to open an authentic Mexican Restaurant, and because it has easier access to Canadian Ingredients. Oh how the mighty have fallen. In one fell swoop, this place went from a 4 star business to 1 star. I come in on a Thursday, and the bartender tells me to go back to the front and wait for the host, which was not there. Since when does bar seating need a host? On top of that, signs are up apologizing for the wait being long because we're short staffed. So you can't be bothered to hire adequate staff, and you're going to make that the customer's problem. Unbelievable. And if that weren't enough, a BAR of all places, is instituting time limits on tables. I gave the alleged host 30 seconds and he never came out. Time's up. This dump will never get my business again, I am appalled by what I have seen, and I hope every one of these snowflake staff members collapse from exhaustion. read more

I have witnessed on multiple late night visits how keen her awareness is on any disruptive patrons. She handles the situations discreetly yet effectively, while still maintaining a harmonious atmosphere. Sporting an old school feel, and with an abundance of locals at the bar, this place pretty much defines no frills. Its location, however, is on one of the main bar streets in the city, Granville, so people like..well me.. tend to wander in. I've been here a few times and it started off as the go to for wings because they were really good and now they're probably one of the worst I've had. I won't be surprised if the chef changed because the wings come out completely different than what I was used to. The toppings for the tacos were decent with a generous amount but unfortunately the tortilla itself was a 1/10 because they clearly don't know how to heat it and serve it hard that it just pains your gums as you try to eat it. The price is great on their specials but unfortunately I will look for a better place and will try back after many months to see if they have improved back to the way they used to be. read more

The wings here are really good! They have very good food and drink specials here and serve food all the way to closing, which means 3am most nights including weeknights. I've had their $1 beef tacos on I can't remember what night and their $11 chicken fingers and beer special. They also have $3 beers when the Vancouver Canucks score. It's kind of a neat place. This is one of those types of bars that you just sort of stumble into and it ends up being your favorite hangout spot. Towards the end of the first of two nights I recently spent in Vancouver, I randomly wandered in because Yelp told me it was one of the only places still open and it was close to my hotel so I figured, why not. What I found was a tropical themed sports bar that had a really fun atmosphere with a roster of regular customers to balance out people like myself who had never been before. In fact, I had such a good time chatting with the bartender and some other folks at the bar, I decided to come back the next night and, sure enough, it was still a great time. As an added bonus, my second night just happened to be 39 cent wing night which was perfect because I had almost ordered some the night before but resisted since I had already been indulging in more than enough of Vancouver's late night cuisine as it was. Other menu items I saw people eating included a gigantic pile of nachos and a few different burgers, all of which looked really good. I had no excuse not to try this place, since I live literally across the street from here, but I didn't know what to expect. Initially I went with a friend for a few drinks. They had quite a bit in terms of selection in regards to Beer, which was nice considering all the snooty places in Yaletown around the corner that have trimmed-down beer menus. I felt like comfort food, so I ended up getting Moosehead and ordered the Macaw Burger. The Burger patty itself was a very generous sized portion, and it was delicious! It came with either fries, salad, or soup, but I stuck with the standard fare and picked fries. The fries were good enough to be able to munch on after the Burger while I had a few more beers. For Burgers though, I would suggest to definitely go in with an empty stomach and it will be full. They also have a Gigantic Burger with 2 POUNDS OF BEEF, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles etc which you can try to eat in less than one hour to get it for free, but I didn't want to try it. I will definitely try one day though, because it sounds like an awesome burger. After the first visit, I realized that they also served breakfast, and I decided to give it a shot one morning. I was very pleasantly surprised that they have a fantastic portion and price point when it came to ordering breakfast items. If you want all the fixings, get the LUMBERJACK JUMBO...2 pancakes, 3 eggs, ham, sausage & bacon. Just fucking awesome. If you aren't that hungry, there are some other options like eggs benny, french toast, omeletts etc. I am VERY picky when it comes to ordering breakfasts (as you can tell from my other reviews), but I was more than happy with the breakfast they serve here. Now I get takeout almost every week. I think i'm going to be a regular here. The food is great, drinks are fantastic, and I think the staff is very friendly and welcoming (more-so than other pubs/diners). You can walk up to the bar and strike up a conversation with any of the bartenders, whereas at other places they won't even look at you unless you have your wallet out. Tiki and Tacky, this is like the kind of bar where Indiana Jones would go to sing karaoke. Palm trees and marguerita specials try to make this bar a sort of Caribbean dive in the jungle, except that instead of pirates it's frequented by jocks and tourists. Kind of like being on a semi-deserted island where they serve grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken fingers, and soups of the day, as well as hyped-up two-pound hamburgers that the menu dares you to finish. The food isn't bad, but the unexotic options seem to be the main cue that the safari-bamboo-shoot décor is nothing more than pure kitsch. The karaoke is fun, with a pretty good song selection and small stage for performing in front of the entire bar. A perfect place to do "Caribbean Queen" by Billy Ocean. Given the location on Granville and Davie, this is a fun place to drink if you're looking for something a little mellower, and not hoping to pick up strangers on a sweaty dance floor. Let's face it, it's a diner with a lot of "beach bar" overtones, predictable and expensive but great for end of the week drinking with co-workers. read more

Two Parrots sounds like it would be a tacky, cooky, over the top tropical bar, which I was ready for. I was let down. First of all, there's definitely an older crowd. Late 30s-40s. The music was all over the place. There was a lot of country at one point, some metal, and back to back songs of weird noise that sounded like a whale. I was SO confused. This place was HORRIBLE. When we arrived we were almost treated as if we were a burden for coming into the restaurant. After seated my friend ordered a Philly cheesesteak and requested no onions. His sandwich was brought out and had onions mixed in with the melted cheese and meat; when he brought it up to the waitress attention she gave him a look and told him to pick out the onions. When he said no I am not going to pick out my onions she made a big deal about it. I ordered the same thing and the sandwich was more fat than meat in addition to being full of BBQ sauce. Went here for brunch on a Saturday morning. It reminds me of a slightly higher end Denny's. Tried the Vegetarian Explosion (omlette). Lots of Hash browns, and 4 pieces of toast so good portion for a big eater. The food is nothing memorable, besides the large portion. It was too bad we had to wait a long time (40 minutes) to get our food because there was a mix up. Overall it is just OK. It is definitely not the best breakfast ever, and not the worst...the quality of the ingredients are not all that great. I would come back because of the convenience factor but I would not necessarily recommend this place. For excellent breakfast try Nice Cafe in East Van (All day breakfast) or Cafe Medina in Chinatown area. read more

As we walked down Granville Ave, looking for laid-back pubs to pop into, we passed Two Parrots. I had a hazy memory of being there on my first trip to Vancouver and from what I could recollect had had a good time. Even so, it didn't seem to be quite the establishment we'd had in mind, so we continued on by. After about an hour, three pubs, and some slightly lowered standards later, we were heading inside after all. I mean, let's be honest: It's kitschy. Garish Hawaiian decorations, themed drinks, etc. But the fruity island-inspired drinks were cheap and yummy, and it wasn't all techno-and-stilettos like many of the places we'd wandered past. It has the most hilarious, confused motif - it's partially a half-assed tiki bar, and partially a sports pub, and the result is gloriously funny. But all silliness aside, the drinks here are actually really good. You wouldn't really expect it, but I think the cocktails rival most any club on Granville AND they are only like five or six dollars on average. They also have nights where they do two dollar pints every time the Canucks store - super cute idea! I wouldn't quite call this place a dive, but its definitely not the nicest place along Granville to go. But hey, its a grimy pub. Not the lounge at the Rosewood. Lower your expectations a little, throw on some jeans and a t-shirt, have a beer and relax. I've never had bad service here, the wait-staff are usually on top of everything and quite attentive - even when I've stopped by on a game night. I love coming in here to have a few pitchers before going to a show or an event further up Granville. Also, I tend to disagree with you yelpers who are saying your food was sub-par... Can't put less than a star. Part of my plan to try what's in the neighbourhood, I had spotted the Two Parrots because it is made visible from the outside. This is a dive bar, and not one I'd put on the recommended list. First the inside looks like a failed attempt to provide a pirate-like decor. Second, the service. I'm not used the knock off the service staff, but I wasn't overly impressed by it. When asking what was on tap, we got directed to the menu page... instead of being told. Third, the beer. It didn't taste right. We saw them changing the keg. We order another pint, it was actually worse. Fourth, the food. While the menu seems to have a variety of burgers, I wasn't overly impressed, and it took me all night to actually digest it. I'm pretty solid when it comes to digesting and this didn't really cut it. I don't think I'll ever return there. Or I better have a good reason. read more

I had the Pittsburgh Chilli Cheese Dog and it was loaded with all sorts of goodies - jumbo smokie, jalapenos, chedder cheese, mozzerella cheese. Not some half pint Oscar Meyer wiener. Good place to just hang out. I hope they stay around. Sometimes I don't understand Vancouverites. I came back a month ago and the chicken burger was smaller. WHAT? HOW? Yes it was as they cut in an half the chicken breast... WTF... What are you trying to do here?
