Maple rye is a testimony to Canadian alcoholic greatness
    Chuck C.

I had maple syrup whisky Yes, that's right, the most Canadian of drinks. A shot of maple syrup-based whisky, and it was phenomenal In a town where drink prices make NYC look cheap*, this bar is an oasis. Sporting an old school feel, and with an abundance of locals at the bar, this place pretty much defines no frills. Its location, however, is on one of the main bar streets in the city, Granville, so people like..well me.. tend to wander in. I'm not complaining at all as it really was nice to find a cheep beer and shot combo in this city. The Hawaiian(?) theme was kind of odd, as it in no way played to the drink menu...but again, who cares, the booze is cheap. ___________ *Come on Canada, why don't you want your citizens to be able to get drunk on the cheap??

The wings here are really good! They have very good food and drink specials here and serve food all the way to closing, which means 3am most nights including weeknights. I've had their $1 beef tacos on I can't remember what night and their $11 chicken fingers and beer special. They also have $3 beers when the Vancouver Canucks score. It's kind of a neat place. The service is good and the food and beer is good and decently priced.

This is one of those types of bars that you just sort of stumble into and it ends up being your favorite hangout spot. Towards the end of the first of two nights I recently spent in Vancouver, I randomly wandered in because Yelp told me it was one of the only places still open and it was close to my hotel so I figured, why not. What I found was a tropical themed sports bar that had a really fun atmosphere with a roster of regular customers to balance out people like myself who had never been before. In fact, I had such a good time chatting with the bartender and some other folks at the bar, I decided to come back the next night and, sure enough, it was still a great time. As an added bonus, my second night just happened to be 39 cent wing night which was perfect because I had almost ordered some the night before but resisted since I had already been indulging in more than enough of Vancouver's late night cuisine as it was. Other menu items I saw people eating included a gigantic pile of nachos and a few different burgers, all of which looked really good. If I lived near here, I would probably become one of the regulars I mentioned earlier. This might just be the Cheers of Vancouver!

I had no excuse not to try this place, since I live literally across the street from here, but I didn't know what to expect. Initially I went with a friend for a few drinks. They had quite a bit in terms of selection in regards to Beer, which was nice considering all the snooty places in Yaletown around the corner that have trimmed-down beer menus. I felt like comfort food, so I ended up getting Moosehead and ordered the Macaw Burger. The Burger patty itself was a very generous sized portion, and it was delicious! It came with either fries, salad, or soup, but I stuck with the standard fare and picked fries. The fries were good enough to be able to munch on after the Burger while I had a few more beers. For Burgers though, I would suggest to definitely go in with an empty stomach and it will be full. They also have a Gigantic Burger with 2 POUNDS OF BEEF, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles etc which you can try to eat in less than one hour to get it for free, but I didn't want to try it. I will definitely try one day though, because it sounds like an awesome burger. After the first visit, I realized that they also served breakfast, and I decided to give it a shot one morning. I was very pleasantly surprised that they have a fantastic portion and price point when it came to ordering breakfast items. If you want all the fixings, get the LUMBERJACK JUMBO...2 pancakes, 3 eggs, ham, sausage & bacon. Just fucking awesome. If you aren't that hungry, there are some other options like eggs benny, french toast, omeletts etc. I am VERY picky when it comes to ordering breakfasts (as you can tell from my other reviews), but I was more than happy with the breakfast they serve here. Now I get takeout almost every week. I think i'm going to be a regular here. The food is great, drinks are fantastic, and I think the staff is very friendly and welcoming (more-so than other pubs/diners). You can walk up to the bar and strike up a conversation with any of the bartenders, whereas at other places they won't even look at you unless you have your wallet out. Perfect location too, right on the corner of Davie/Granville, so you can catch breakfast early, and walk down to the seawall/park area, or you can come here and chill after work (a definite MUST during hockey season, as they have t.v's everywhere, and it's such an exciting environment)

I freaking love this place! Don't wear your heels or your fancy shirts, they sell 'Bobby-Sue Specials' for jumping Jehoshaphat sake ...Get one! The staff are always nice and there is no pretentiousness at this joint - kinda hard to find a place like that on Granville.. Even the Irish pubs seem to have a 'Proud' atmosphere... If you pride yourself in being a snob this is probably not the right joint for you, but if what your looking for is a burger n beer special and a jukebox to throw your money at you've come to the right place. I've been to this place a dozen times and have always left smiling. Or is it sauced? Saucy-Smiling that's what it is...or Smiley-Saucing... Anyways, Yes. It's an old place (pretty 90's tacky tropical) but it's clean, smells good (or doesn't smell bad) and has good window lighting and view to people watch. I cannot. Repeat cannot complain. Also the Location?! Totally staggering distance from the Canada Line That is all

Great sportsbar with delicious burgers and awsome fries. The prices are super. All in all, a full package and no deficits. Keep on doing so. When I will come back to Vancouver, I will definitely come back to the "Two Parrots".

The food was way better than I expected it to be. Good drinks, ok prices, great food, huge portions! Service is good. I always thought this place was an old run down bar, but it's actually a lot better than I expected.

Tiki and Tacky, this is like the kind of bar where Indiana Jones would go to sing karaoke. Palm trees and marguerita specials try to make this bar a sort of Caribbean dive in the jungle, except that instead of pirates it's frequented by jocks and tourists. Kind of like being on a semi-deserted island where they serve grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken fingers, and soups of the day, as well as hyped-up two-pound hamburgers that the menu dares you to finish. The food isn't bad, but the unexotic options seem to be the main cue that the safari-bamboo-shoot décor is nothing more than pure kitsch. The karaoke is fun, with a pretty good song selection and small stage for performing in front of the entire bar. A perfect place to do "Caribbean Queen" by Billy Ocean. Given the location on Granville and Davie, this is a fun place to drink if you're looking for something a little mellower, and not hoping to pick up strangers on a sweaty dance floor. Let's face it, it's a diner with a lot of "beach bar" overtones, predictable and expensive but great for end of the week drinking with co-workers.

Jam Cafe, Vancouver Jam Cafe is my favorite brunch spot. Anywhere. That sounds like an exaggeration. It isn't. I've been traveling to Vancouver for work for almost a decade, and every single trip includes a stop at Jam. If I'm lucky, two. I've also become that coworker who convinces everyone to meet outside at 7:45 in the morning so we can be part of the first seating at 8:00. Thankfully, we're all from the East Coast and have been awake since 5:00 anyway. Over the years I've successfully JAMfluenced more business travelers than I'd like to admit. And yes, it's still worth the wait even if you're not first in line. The restaurant itself is tiny. Cozy farmhouse vibes, mismatched decorations covering the walls, and maybe 15 tables between the dining room and patio. It feels more like someone's favorite neighborhood breakfast spot than one of Vancouver's brunch institutions. The menu is comfort food turned up to eleven. Everything is indulgent, creative, and somehow still balanced. You can tell the kitchen starts with great ingredients because every component tastes like it could stand on its own. I try to branch out every visit... and then usually end up ordering the Tater Tot Bowl anyway. Crispy tater tots, buffalo sauce, Mexican street corn relish, and ridiculously good pulled pork. It's the kind of dish that sounds like it shouldn't work, but every bite somehow gets better than the last. And then there are the cinnamon roll pancakes. They are enormous. They're also one of the best brunch dishes I've ever eaten. Birdfluencer Lorraine M. declared them the best pancakes she's ever had, and after several visits, I don't have much of an argument. Service is exactly what it needs to be. Friendly, efficient, and quick. The staff knows there's a line forming outside before the doors even open, but you never feel rushed. Overall, Jam Cafe has officially become part of my Vancouver tradition. At this point, a work trip to the city doesn't really start until I've had breakfast here. If you're visiting Vancouver and only have time for one brunch, this would be my pick without a second thought.

We were having gorgeous weather in Vancouver so we decided to eat on the covered patio. The place is pretty cozy, but was only moderately busy when we went. They have a pretty good menu with lots a Benedict's and a build your own breakfast option that seemed pretty nice. I took the recommendation from our server and got the bacon benny. It did not disappoint. I think I have recently discovered that I love poached eggs and these were perfect. The yolk was nice and runny and the white was firm but not hard. I like to cut in to my egg and have it run down and get messy on the plate. The hollandaise was excellent. So many breakfast places will serve it broken, but not here. It had the perfect amount of lemon, butter ratio for my taste and I really enjoyed it. The bacon was good, not to salty, and the english muffin was, well, an English muffin from a package that they toasted and out on the plate. I did splurge and paid the extra dollar for the truffle potatoes and they were very good. I love truffle oil on potatoes so I am a sucker for it whenever its on a menu. You just cant mess it up. Fried potatoes, truffle oil, and a lemon squeeze to bring it all together. My wife got the brunch burger and she loved it. It was a messy breakfast burger that a lot of places have but this one was done right. A poached oozy egg, on a burger patty with american cheese, the best burger cheese in my opinion, bacon, hollandaise and arugula on a brioche bun! It came with tater tots and they were nice and crispy just like she likes them. Well, why didn't I give it five stars you may be asking? Great question. Here it is, each plate came with a side that was just awful. Mine had some "fresh" fruit that nearly made me laugh. It consisted of the saddest, limpest piece of watermelon I have ever seen this side of a trash can. I also had an old crusty orange wedge and a single grape. My wife got a slimy side salad that I think was holding on for dear life. Both, we deemed inedible and moved on immediately. I think there is a rule, or at least there should be one, in restaurants that if you wouldn't eat it then don't serve it. There might be another one that says if you eat rotten food maybe get a different job and see rule one. Overall, we liked the place and would go back. But first, the food - I ordered scrambled eggs, chicken apple sausage and paid an extra $1 for truffled lemon potatoes. The verdict? 4 out of 5. While he loved the tomato soup he chose on the side, he was less enamoured by the benny itself. I had a taste and was underwhelmed by a forkful of overripe avocado and slightly fishy-tasting salmon. We finished with an order of beignets which despite being freshly-fried, were bland; although the accompanying strawberry sauce was deliciously tangy-sweet. Onto the service. This place spins like a top, and I mean that in a good way. Although we came at a peak time, all front of the house staff we encountered -- from the hostess to our bubbly server, to the smooth manager -- struck a perfect balance of being in flow, working flawlessly together, and maintaining light conversation with us.
