This used to be my wife's favorite store in Boulder but we were disgusted by the way a clerk treated a customer today. The customer lifted a candle in a glass jar that wasn't secured to the lid. It fell and the glass broke. The customer started to sweep the glass into a pile with her foot, and the clerk came running over and said, "you can't hide that!" The customer was not trying to hide anything and was only trying to clean the mess. The customer was very apologetic, but the clerk said, "You are going to pay for this." The poor customer was very flustered and agreed to pay for it. The clerk's attitude was ugly. We will never shop there again, read more

Agree with many about poor service from snooty college girls. I requested some inserts for my filofax planner in March, and was told I'd be hearing back when the order came in. They finally called me in July! The paper is amazing, artful and unique books, and excellent writing tools. A+ place to find a special gift. Wish the staff would get a reality check. I love stationery. And ink. And pens. So a store that carries these items, in combination or solo, will catch my eye. While on a brief tour of Boulder one Saturday, we had just enough time to run into Two Hands Paperie. The store grabs all the senses as you walk in, with plenty of eye-catching items to draw your attention. They have a small collection of pens, Retro 51 and Esterbrook among them (fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball). The regular prices didn't strike me as a fantastic deal, but the sale try offered some good options. The stationery and notebook/journal collection was very promising; I didn't have time to give it a thorough perusal, but I did grab a box of 100 postcards that will come in handy in February. They also had 3-4 ink brands including Iroshizuku and the new Private Reserve, behind the counter. All that, and there was another huge room of paper, art supplies, and just cool stuff to marvel over. Unfortunately, we had to hurry back to our driver, so, a more in-depth study will have to wait for my next visit to Boulder. So I found this shop after taking the Copperplate Calligraphy two day course there. So this review is going to be of the shop itself as well as the calligraphy class as well. So first, the shop... It is gorgeous and well organized. The paper they sell is so beautiful and anyone looking for some great quality paper will love this place. When I first walked in I had to kind of look around the shop on my own in order to find where the class was being held (it's in the back "Paper Room," if you end up taking it and need to know). I was not greeted by any associates but part of me likes that... I like the freedom to browse and look and not be approached continuously by associates but I suppose one initial greeting would have been nice especially considering I had a question and was running a bit late. Also, the shop carries extremely limited amounts of calligraphy paper which didn't really make sense to me. If you are going to host a calligraphy class, it's probably a profitable idea to have all the supplies there so participants can purchase on the spot (which I would have done if the shop stocked the recommended paper). The instructor Megan DID sell individual calligraphy units and kits (that were extremely well priced and I think she accepted cash and check so if you think you'll want one be sure to bring cash/check) but not paper which I don't fault her for at all. I would assume the paper store the class is being held at would carry calligraphy paper but they really don't. Megan DOES give you all the paper and supplies you need for the actual class but if you are looking for a pad of calligraphy paper to use at home you may not find one at Two Hands. We were told they might start selling it soon but it was not in stock when I was there. Also, parking for the course was not terrible and I managed to pay $0 on parking for the entire weekend. I parked in the neighborhood behind the store on Saturday when parking still had a fee and I just parked in the metered area on Sunday as the meter is not running on Sunday. I would recommend arriving early so you can work on the parking situation and get to class on time! Next on to the class review. WOW! I never knew there was SO much that went into calligraphy. The instructor Megan was extremely patient and kind and never took anything too seriously which I really appreciated because I really struggled through some elements of the course and that light-hearted humor from her really helped me to relax and focus on technique. She is very knowledgable on the history of calligraphy and an EXTREMELY talented calligrapher. The ONLY downside to this class were the small, shaky little stools that we sat on for the 5 1/2 hours. The class went from 11am-4:30pm for two continuous days and by the end of the class my back, neck, and butt were killing me. I found it really hard to relax and focus on the technique when my little stool kept shaking and moving every time I would adjust my grip on my nib and holder. When I got home at the end of the two days and tried my calligraphy in a comfortable, stable chair, I found I improved substantially. The class filled up quickly so if you are thinking of joining in I would recommend getting in on the action as soon as you know of the class opening. I was encouraged to bring a smock which I only used the first day and as I got more comfortable and less nervous around the ink I took the smock off. Also, the class size was limited to 6 people which was great because we all got individual attention (which I really needed LOL). Overall, if you are looking to get into calligraphy and want a fun and relaxed environment to try it out in I really do recommend this class with Megan! read more

You don't have to be into paper products to find this place to be rockin! They have an amazing selection of paper, cards, invitations, writing instruments. I doubt its cheap but the selection and quality is hard to beat. I had a positive experience with the employees. read more

Wow totally pretentious and unfriendly staff. I was in there for about 20 minutes and no one bothered to even say hello or ask if I needed help. They were out of what I needed and I ended up looking around at other things. An older lady behind the front counter said 'goodbye have a great night' to an a white gentlemen who was walking past to leave store, but didn't even bother to look up as I passed right in front of her. This was the same woman who rudely closed their front door on me several nights prior, saying "sorry we are closing" when it was 2 minutes before their posted hour. I said I only wanted to buy a specific journal for class. She told me they open up 'same hours tomorrow' but I live in Longmont and have a very limited schedule. Don't you want business? Or only from a certain 'type' of customer? This kind of store underscores Boulder's white, extremely affluent, privileged and arrogant nexus. I am an educated Latina and am always aware when I am treated differently. Won't ever purchase my notebooks here again for grad school. read more

I came to Two Hands with barely an idea for an invitation. They dedicated a large amount of time to creating the perfect concept, and made sure I had everything I needed to make my project a huge success. Additionally, they worked within my level of comfort as to how much of the project I felt able to tackle myself, and how much I needed assistance for. The artistic talent is top notch! read more

I absolutely love this shop! The selection of wrapping paper and stationary is ridiculous, plus calendars, cards, and journals that will be hard to find elsewhere. Normally, I consider a lot of similar shop prices over-the-top but this selection is worth every bit. And they have a ribbon station, too!
