Let me start off my saying that I am a huge Michaels supporter, I've loved the brand since I was a child. Now at 31, my husband and I love to go in at least monthly. This location unfortunately is doing no service to its reputation, specifically the store managers lack of customer service. I had a simple return that I wanted to make and was told it was final sale and could not be completed. I challenged her on that detail and found that in fact, it was not final sale!!! Seemed I just caught her in a bad mood. From the looks of other reviews this service from the manager seems to be a common occurrence. That being said I was able to call Michaels corporate number, and I was offered a refund within five minutes of explaining my situation. All to say, this unfortunately put a bad taste in our mouth for this situation. I highly encourage the owners of this branch to look into their customer service problem. read more

It's been a while since I have been here. I saw something I needed for a gift project at a high end store I use regularly but I wanted an alternative in style and price. Michael's has a lot of items in this category but almost none with the dimensions I needed for the photo needing framing. After looking at aisle after aisle on my own, none of it being real wood and little being glass, I found a pleasant staff member who also looked . We only found plastic, in the size range required. Yes a low price but inadequate for the destination so we left and went back to the higher end store right away as they only had 2 left in stock. Quality is definitely related to price in this case and we did the right thing. The store was fairly empty of customers as well as staff as usual. There were areas that used to be heavily stocked but seemed low now. Maybe import troubles starting to be apparent already. read more

At this moment I am sitting in my car on hold with Michael's 1-800 number (it's already been over 10 minutes). How did I end up in this predicament you ask? I'll start here at the beginning... This wasn't an ordinary visit. I was here to finally secure frames for art. Not just any old art - much I received as a gift from local artists following the loss of my longtime home in the Whittier fire, others hand made by close friends. I'm finally in my forever home and am ready to make it my own. These prints many of which I've been carrying around for almost two years. They've been leaning against the wall for far too long and part of moving through the loss of my home is embracing and truly settling into my new home. After a wonderful encounter with Michael's in house framing expert (tall young man with brown hair - sorry I forgot your name as I totally asked for it!) I rolled up to the counter - with just one impulse purchase I might add - so proud. I mentioned I had multiple coupons. They said "ok". After being rung up I made the mistake of paying before asking why the total was so high - one deal did not go through. I inquired about the bogo sale I'd seen and they said they didn't know about the sales - there were too many. I confirmed the missing deal (25% off everything full priced) and they just shrugged. They offered to return and re ring up the purchase - tho noted my voucher would not reset for a few days. This was not an option that interested me. I asked if they could do anything else and they said they could get the manager. They made a quick call - no manager appeared and I was advised to call the Michael's 1800 number. No apology for the inconvenience or acknowledgement of how frustrating this scenario was (I have worked many years in customer service and would have handled things way differently). I drove home and called Michael's. It was a 12 minute wait to speak with someone. They informed me that they could not resolve as it was not an online purchase tho suggested I return to the store as the manager could as a one time courtesy extend a gift card for the 20% difference. They also noted the manager could call them to be walked through the process. I drove back to the store and met the manager on duty. They informed me they did not know how to give me back the difference. I called the 1 800 number and together we waited and pleasantly chatted for over ten minutes. At that point I was frustrated, sad and nearing crankiness. I was advised to return to the store another day the overall manager would be in - which unfortunately was only during my working hours. Major bummer. I also shared at that time how I felt the situation was handled poorly by the prior employee. I did somehow manage to escape work to make it in when the overall manager was there. He was quick to help tho again not very empathetic. I will most definitely return tho will be super duper careful to review all the pricing at checkout before I swipe my card. read more

They were short staffed due to Covid today but still tried hard! The guy in the frame shop was nice and helpful finding a purple mat. The manager was nice too, and gave me a free piece of scrap! At $15 for a big board it's middle of the road on price. However, ordering online they can be damaged. Thank you for a good product! read more

How hard can it be? Brought 2 drawings to be framed. Picked out double mats and different frames for each. Expensive custom framing. Waited weeks. Picked up today and they had switched the frames. (managing three different cell phones) seemed very put out that I wanted to pay cash and couldn't complete the self-serve kiosk she gestured at while she scrolled on her phone as I walked up. Visited this store around 8PM on (7/29/23). A bunch of young female employees were just standing around engaging in very loud conversations., goofing off. They got so loud you could hear them shout from across the store. When I was being wrung up by one of them, the girl was still acting up laughing and acting completely unprofessional. It's obvious by the other reviews the store manager doesn't seem to care. What a drag of a place. Would not recommend. read more

came here to pick up some basic art supplies. i went up to self checkout and this employee came over and asked over and over if i want to get a membership there (no.) she hovered over me and my bf the entire time we were checking out asking what we were scanning next. she just wouldn't leave us alone, clearly thinking we were trying to steal. i love michaels and usually their employees are very friendly. sucks this was my first experience at this one. read more

This location does not run creatology camps. The website will allow you to sign up for it at this address, but they aren't actually running them. After signing up, showing up and buying the kit, the employees seemed not to know anything about it when asked. Later, I called to ask the manager, Gonzo, what went wrong. He accused me of lying and proceeded to yell at me in a really unhinged way. I hope his employees are okay. (Blink twice if you need help) He told me that if there was a creatology class, he would have been the one running it. After that conversation, I wouldn't let that man near a child, so... there are no creatology classes running at this location, if you care about your kids. read more

We had 3 bad experiences out of 3 chances going to this Boulder Michael's. 1. Paid a lot for a custom frame only to find out they used the wrong frame. They said we messed up and didn't verify on the receipt picture stating that they built what was asked, then I found it and sure enough THEY did it wrong. When I confronted a manager about it, she said "I guess we won't double charge you" - you better not, it was YOUR fault and I have proof right in my hand! 2. When trying to use a coupon, the cashier was rude and didn't care about it at all; there was an error on her computer and just said "well, I can't grant any discount if the computer says this" again we had to ask for a manager to get an explanation and still didn't get the discount. :( 3. I went to frame section to ask about an 'off the shelf' frame; not custom. The lady was on her phone and didn't even look at me when I was asking her a question. Not a huge deal but then said "oh let me go get someone else" - then another 2 gals came out and all they could say was "just bring the picture in and we can answer your questions then". I have to drive to this store and don't live that close, so to NOT be able to answer a basic question about an off the shelf frame was VERY disappointing. The most disappointing facts were that the customer services is horrible at this store. My wife and I won't ever be going here again and will take our business anywhere else. read more

I ordered this yarn online and was able to pick up the same day at the Boulder location! My roommate and I wanted some crafts to do and we decided to order this yarn and try to make a blanket. She drove us down there when we received the email saying it's ready for pick up. You call when you get there and someone brings it out to your car! So easy! read more

This is kind of your run of the mill Michaels store with the exception of having a little bit more in the way of always having things in stock. Often I am finding myself having to come to this Michaels in particular to find the things that I need, compared to my home store. The store also tends to have a little bit more unique seasonal items compared to a few other stores, I'm not sure if that is chosen by corporate or the managers who are putting in the purchasing requests for inventory, but they are doing a good job. The store is also always kept clean and free of the isle debris that tends to happen from people just leaving things on the floor instead of back on the shelf where they got it from. The staff is also very helpful and knowledgeable in my experiences when needing help with a project or trying to find something specific. read more

This review is for their framing department. I used to go to the Great Frame Up but since they moved to Longmont I decided to try Michaels. I had a small print (Probably 11"x17") I wanted framed to give as a present for my aunt. I decided on what frame I liked (which was a very plain thin black frame) and the lady working in the frame department suggested I add a red border to the picture. I was thinking it wouldn't be more than $50 since other pictures I had framed at the other store were way bigger (poster size) and cost around $70 a piece. I was amazed when I picked it up and the total was $120! Same thing happened to my aunt. She took a hockey jersey to get framed and it cost her over $200!The people working there were very nice and helpful but wow is it extremely overpriced/expensive. read more

Every time I come in this store I leave frustrated. Never greeted friendly, you can't find anything and when you ask where it is you are treated with a blank stare or with a gruff response. This is a brand-new store and still has "new-stock smell". It's an average-sized Michaels, but has an especially good selection of picture frames and of glassware (bowls, jars, vases). There's also a large and interesting kids' section with a variety of items, including some sdale models and science projects. The organization seems a little better than the average Michaels, including an interesting enclosed display area as you walk in the entrance (currently stocked with Easter items). read more

I've repeatedly refrained from giving this store the poor review it has earned from me. I've now reached my limit in the poor customer service department. I'm a professional sculptor, and there are a couple of materials I regularly need, available at Michael's. I turn to Michael's when I do not have time to wait for an order from a more specialized store online. I call ahead to Michael's to make sure what I need is in stock. Sometimes I do get a clear, accurate answer, and I appreciate that. However, once I was told that yes, a certain clay was there in stock. I drive there to discover it is not -- whoever looked simply did not pay attention to what I said and misidentified the product. Another time, I have some put on hold for me at the register. I drive there an hour later, and the material is nowhere to be found. It has been misplaced between the register and the shelf, apparently. They say, well go home and order some online (if I time to wait on a mail-order, I would order from a more individual and caring shop). Today, I was told that the material I've purchased there many times is something they do not carry. Nope, they have no idea what it is. I offer the bar code number. They have no interest in looking it up. They say, order online. Instead, I phone the Michael's in Superior, CO, which one might say is indeed superior to the one in Boulder. They look up the bar code. They not only have the material in stock, they are able to tell me that the Boulder store, the one that told me to go order online, has 3 boxes of the material in stock. Superior is further away from me, but the Superior store deserves my business. I'm going to set out it now. I'm sure the Boulder store is fine if you are wanting to shop for fun and are in no hurry. But my impression is that they do not train their employees well, and that while some employees may care about the customer, as a whole, the store could not care less. Follow-up: I called back to Boulder store, and asked to speak with the manager. She at least went and checked her shelf for me. That I appreciate. She said the 3 packets mentioned by the Superior store are not in today but will be tomorrow. So, I credit the manager with that effort. However, as I told her, I believe some greater effort must be made to train the employees before this store will function effectively for specific needs or clients who do not want to spend time browsing. And, there is a difference between "not in stock" which is what I was asking, and being told repeatedly by the employee that they "do not carry" the product. 2nd follow-up: Well. About an hour after I wrote the above review, I started to drive to the Michael's in Superior. Since the Boulder store is located on the way to Superior for me, I thought I would stop there and look for myself, in case they were mistaken about their inventory. They were mistaken. There were the three packets of material, on the shelf. I purchased one, and then asked to speak to the manager. They contacted her, and sent me to the framing dept. to speak with her. I wondered what she would say, given she'd told me she went to the shelf and checked, and scanned the product number, and found it would be coming in on a truck in the morning. She said that after our conversation, she'd found three packets on a cart in the back, not yet shelved, and pointed out how I'd SAID I was not going to stop by today. She repeated that several times, as if I had been rather naughty and deceptive to come by after all. She said if I'd only given her my phone number, she would've called me. I said it was frustrating, given this was not the first mix-up. I said I appreciated the effort that had been made, but at this point would leave the negative review I'd refrained from leaving previously. She said that was very unfair of me. She repeated that several times. She said how hard they'd worked to help me, how busy they'd been. Alas, I had not detected the great effort on my behalf. She asked my why did I keep coming there if I was so unhappy? I replied that this would be the last time. Judge for yourself. I'm sure it's a fine place for browsing, and that there are some there who make an effort to be helpful. But in future, when I need a brick and mortar source, I'll drive directly to the Michael's in Superior, CO. They seem to have a knack for accuracy and helpfulness. read more

Great store, very organized and large inventory, however he customer service is lacking. Simple exchange and the cashier said "I guess I can get the manager" when there was a price difference. Then the manager, when offering a different coupon for 40% rather than 30% said "It wouldn't make a difference... I mean I guess I can if you really want to save a couple dollars." My mom placed an online order and was given a 40% off coupon. She asked me to pick it up for her because I was going to be in Boulder the following day. She had pre-paid for the item online so all I should have had to do was pick it up. When I get there they tell me that it is in her name and she didn't list me as the one picking up so the manager Katrina would not allow me to take the item. Well, my mom still needed the item so I proceeded to just buy the item with cash. The manager Katrina refused to even give me the 40% coupon price and was extremely rude and unhelpful. She did not care about my problem and it seemed like she absolutely hated her job. I went ahead and paid regular price and then as a slap in the face they gave me a 40% off coupon for next purchase. Don't worry folks, I don't appreciate the poor customer service and it's time consumers just stop using businesses that don't appreciate their customers. I will never shop there again as it's so much easier to order online. I hope the 7 bucks was worth it. read more
