Walked in the door and was greeted almost immediately by a friendly staff member who asked what my children would be interested in and offered up some of her own suggestions, even leading me to those departments inside the store. Wide variety of decently made toys - not the plastic crap that Target and Toys R Us sells. Staff was very friendly and offered FREE gift wrapping. There's even a "birthday club" for kids. An excellent addition to Broomfield and one we should all support! The staff and selection are what makes this a true 5 * selection. Plenty of parking and close to the RTD stop at Flatiron. Just recently, I learned that they have a new loyalty rewards program that is free and you earn a $5 reward for every $100 spent. I've been a Barnes & Noble customer for years and was thrilled when the cashier offered to sign me up for the free rewards program. Are any of my other book lovers as excited as I am about this? The only thing I wish they would do is automatically update their store prices based on their website. I found some pretty sweet deals on their website, so when I went into the store, I grabbed those books thinking they were on sale. When they rang up, they looked like they were full price. I asked for the cashier to honor the pricing online. While the cashier was more than willing to price match the website, I wish I didn't have to ask for it to happen. Just a friendly tip - make sure you check out their website to make sure you're getting the best deals available.

But I was surprised (and disappointed) to see them want to charge me a 3% credit card surcharge if I paid with a credit card. Luckily I had cash. But.... For anyone who doesn't know: Colorado law caps credit card surcharges at 2%. Charging more than that isn't just shady--it's actually illegal (SB21-091). Businesses are allowed to cover processing fees, but they need to stay within the legal limit. I kindly mentioned this, but it didn't seem like they were willing to adjust. It's not about the small amount--it's about integrity and following the law. Support local? Absolutely. But let's hold local businesses to legal and ethical standards, too.

It is gone now after two retirements of the previous local ownership, families from the south Boulder area. Each year my boys were allowed to pick a small ornament of their choice from the store. We collected a number so special, they still have on their trees for their kids to see. We went looking for a small token ornament for our youngest grandchild and as a Harry Potter fan, we chose Hedwig the owl, apparently sold out across much of the country in similar Hallmark stores. This one just opened last week and luckily had stock available. The collections are now immense and tied to all of the popular themes, from Potter to Disney to Star Wars and Mario Kart, and beyond. If it's your niche, go take a look. The card displays are immense, in all the traditional categories, probably the biggest in Boulder. But we do have a couple of local stores, one at the other end of this shopping center and one on the Hill, with collections unique to our locale, some hand made and unique, by local artists, painters and photographers. There are traditional gift wrap rolls, bags made of paper and cloth. There are puzzles and holiday jewelry, stuffed animals and candy and toiletries. Usually these stores are in large indoor malls, but this is a neighborhood shopping center anchored by 2 major groceries and many little local cafes, restaurants and sporting good stores. Parking is ample and free. Because I already use the local small stores, I will use this one in addition for certain types of gifts. Occasionally, but not too often. It is nice to have one back in the area. The staff is new and still in training but pleasant and willing to engage the customers.

The store was actually oddly quiet, usually many have some kind of music, but supposedly a manager is nursing a headache and no music anymore. Though that weirdness doesn't stop there, the soda is always talked about being quite extensive, but if that were the case, it looks like booze took over half of what cpuld been drinks overall. They had some weird options, but most were basically available in other stores. At least there was some candies that are a bit more exclusive to the store, so picked up a couple bags. They even have chocolate oranges year-round!
