My favorite art store in Boulder. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and their selection is great. They are always there to answer any random question you may have. I go in for art supplies but they also have paint and home decorating areas in store. The art supply area has many types of paper and brushes and a wide selection of different types of paint. I use leather paint and they carry Jacquard, however I do wish they would carry Angeles. They have all types of papers in an array of sizes and materials, and every kind of paint brush you could want, so head on in! There are only a few parking spots on days that it's busy, however that's only happened to me a few times. Overall, great store. Great products. Great staff. I come in often and will probably be in again soon. read more

I used to really like Guiry's art supply area because it's legitimately the only place locally to buy nice drawing paper and to get supplies beyond what hobby lobby offers. -but- I always get the same supplies and I think I may have bought them out indefinitely and they will simply never restock them again. Mechanical pencil graphite- has been in need of restock for 6 months, particularly softer varieties. Creatacolor woodless graphite sticks, empty box on the shelf- especially softer varieties. Krylon workable fixative, empty space on the shelf for months, they only have Blair that is awful, or Lascaux, which comes in at 5x the price and is on the shelf still for a reason. Sakura gold paint calligraphy pens were well stocked but I bought one at a time periodically and they've been empty for a few months. (I ordered them from Guiry's website and they were readily in stock, just not distributed to their art store) Certain colors of Golden open acrylic...might as well be the holy grail. You're not finding it. I really want to shop locally but it's sort of a pain to never be able to get basics anymore. I check here first, but more and more often I'm needing to resort to ordering online from other stores. read more

As a local artist, Guiry's has been my favorite place for art supplies, and now that Meininger's is gone, there are few places where you can find esoteric items such as paper in many different weights and thicknesses, professional quality markers, (most with that crucial open sample) and all the odd things we use to make stuff. Bonus: their hours have always been extended so you can get there before or after work. Note to those who love artists: a gift card to this store would be very appreciated, as we all have enough candles, cutesy gifts, and inspirational books. read more

Great products, terrible service. We purchased $20K worth of high tech window treatments from Geiry's, including a programmable electronic hub to raise and lower them. Well, the programming part malfunctions, and I've been asking them to repair or replace it for WEEKS. Mostly, they just ignore me, but last week they actually promised someone would be out to fix it. I waited home all day, but no one ever showed up or even called. If they paid me for waiting as much as they charge per hour for installation, my window treatments would be free by now. read more

the staff at guirys has been just amazingly patient and helpful. I've run painting companies on the east Coast and have over 35 years in the trades. the staff at guirys is top shelf. I've witnessed many many times homeowners comming in being over the top picky the staff clearly shared that old wall colors will allways show a touch up and the person tried to blame them for a bad mix. The guirys staff was correct in what they said. They suggested painting the one wall corner to corner that is what I would do. I give guirys an A1 status and the manager is prop of his new staff directing them in a very kind supportive tone of voice. You gotta love the guys in at Guiry's. We bought a huge 5 gallon bucket of gray paint for our house, got it home and thought it looked too blue. We picked out a different paint chip, took the remaining paint back into Guiry's and they tweaked the "blue" paint so it matched the newly selected paint chip. Magic! Similarly, since we got to this "custom color" in such a round-about way, when we needed more of it there wasn't a simple recipie. But leave a swatch with the guys for 48 hours and... Voile!! They matched it perfectly. Also, I can't stress this enough, Benjamin Moore paint is the best! (Guiry's is the only local retailer of Ben Moore.) We bought some Behr primer and paint at Home Depot and, I swear to God, 2 coats of primer and 7 coats of paint later you could still see the old paint color coming through and every brush/roller stroke. The Ben Moore paint covered everything in one coat and it was smooth and lovely, no roller marks to be seen. One really awesome benefit of shopping at Guiry's is that they have little paint samples of ALL the Ben Moore colors. So for a few bucks you can take home a 4-6 oz sample to test out on your walls. Home Depot, besides selling the bad, bad Behr paint, doesn't do this. The other reasons I love Guiry's: great place to find a painter to do faux finishes, excellent selection of art supplies, and I get to support the local guys. =) read more

I switched to Benjamin Moore (the brand that's sold here) paint on our last project at the suggestion of the professional painter I was working with. I've been very pleased. I do some of my own work too and the paint guys here have been great to work with. They have matched my previous paint colors for areas where I have done only partial repainting for repair reasons. This review is long overdue. I'm an artist and a self-declared high maintenance customer. Pretty sure Guiry's art crew would agree with at least the latter. I am blown away every time by how they go out of their way to listen and make sure all of my high maintenance questions get answered. It makes the difference between me being an occasional customer and not having much loyalty to wanting to be a fiercely loyal regular who spreads the good word. I really appreciate the art store team, specifically Amy and the crew usually working with her. Thanks for everything always. I really wanted to support a local store, fully recognize times are difficult right now but they have failed utterly and shown absolutely no interest in customer service. I paid for window treatments for my new home in July 2020, and they still have not delivered or properly installed all the treatments. It's been a battle for 3 months just getting two blinds ordered and installed. I have called the store weekly for 3 months, I can never get a call back. I finally asked to speak to a manager, and after two attempts, still have not heard anything back. The fun new addition being that the person answering the phones now acts like I'm inconveniencing them by trying to even speak to a manager, let alone get delivery of what I ordered. Supremely disappointed and would absolutely not recommend. read more

If you're into drawing and illustration, it can be difficult to find good and reasonably priced supplies in Boulder. Guiry's is my answer to this. This review is for the decorating department. Though the people in the paint department and the art department are fantastic, the experience in the decorating area is atrocious. There are a couple of older women who work there who would rather do anything BUT help. And they do that with a nasty attitude to boot. I have waited twice over a half and hour, though I asked, very nicely, for assistance. They just couldn't be bothered. This review is for the blinds department. If I could give it a negative rating that would be more appropriate. I'm moving out of my rental and need to replace a few Hunter Douglas blinds that were damaged and were originally purchased from Guiry's. I went to the store and explained my situation and the time constraint I was on. The first person I talked to was very helpful and told me what information I needed to provide her with the next day. When I came in the next day with all the information, I was told that she had called in sick and they were not really supposed to put in an order when someone else had helped me. I explained that I was on a time constraint and the following day I would not be able to call because I would not have access to a phone and would prefer to just order the blinds that day. They refused and told me that only the original person would be able to help me, but she would be in the following 2 days. Again, I went to the store 2 days later and could not find anyone to help me in the blinds department, so I left. I called the store a few hours later and AGAIN the person who originally helped me was not in the store that day, despite the previous person telling me they would be in. I talked to a Chris on the phone and he said they did not have my phone number to call be back. Note, the first day I was in the store I provided my phone number and they had my phone number in the computer from providing me with a quote. Either way, I was not reachable the day they would have tried to contact me. I started to express my concern, time constraint and frustration with the process and was immediately cut off before I was even able to finish my sentence. Not once during this time did I raise my voice. Chris yelled at me over the phone and screamed "What do you want me to do!? There's nothing I can do other than pass your phone number along. I have 3 other people in the store." I was shocked and stopped with a "Wow." #1 - You're in customer services. I'm also in customer service and understand frustration, but there was no need to speak to me in that tone. Learn common courtesy. #2 - A previous Yelp review also highlights what is lacking in your blinds department. #3 - Guiry's management, for a store with your price range and customer base I would expect customer service to be superior to what I would find in a large chain store. You would think it would be in your best interest to keep customers and build a loyalty to your brand. You have fallen short. read more

I love Guiry's for paint and art supplies. The one thing that makes me sad is that their pens and ink section has largely disappeared. Came in looking for a decent fountain pen, and was sent to a $12, box-on-the-wall model. Ink was even tougher. Rude kid staff ruined me on this place. I gave it 2 chances, both times I was treated as though the fact that I existed was a hassle for these folks. This last trip (which will be THE last trip, sadly), I was looking for something specific, described its function, and asked for help. The kid at the counter in back gave me eye rolls, sarcasm, and condescension. Told me, "I can't help you if you don't know what you're talking about." This place is awesome! had all the art supplies we couldn't find at Michael's and hobby lobby and at a cheaper cost. So many options for all art types. I've come to Guiry's many times, as we've always used Benjamin Moore paints. Almost every time I come, it's difficult to get help while looking at paint colors, not because the associate in that area is busy, but because she blatantly ignores customers. Today, I watched her ignore three other shoppers and myself. A couple came in toward the end of my visit, and she was very interested in helping them, falling all over herself to please them. It's bizarre that some customers don't even get a greeting, and others are treated so graciously. She even gestured to the man to have a seat where I already had my things, as though I weren't there. It's especially frustrating when you have a question and are ignored. On the other hand, the folks behind the paint desk are great. They know what they're doing, and are kind and helpful, which is why this is a three-star review and not one. read more

With the professional help of Lorraine in the Decorating Department, I ordered 5 Hunter Douglas cellular blinds for my condo. Not only did the blinds arrive in less than a week, but Michael got them installed about a week later. All the blinds fit to a "T" and the colors Lorraine helped me select were perfect. One of the blinds had a manufacturing defect, which Lorraine re-ordered and installed herself within a week. My previous experiences ordering these blinds from other vendors was not nearly as professional nor as quick. I highly recommend Lorraine and her team at Guiry's for Hunter Douglas blinds. read more

Staff is always helpful. I only use Benjamin Moore paint. I love that they have small sample jars you can buy to test the paint colors. It has saved me several times from buying the wrong color. Guiry's is great for paint. We got all of our paint for the house about a year ago from them, and it turned out really nice. We decided to paint the bathroom a different color recently, and when I went in to get the paint I was reminded how much I like Guiry's. They have everything you need and the people in the paint department were helpful and friendly. I also love the no VOC paint that they offer, it let's you paint a room without stinking up the whole house for days. Solid place, I'll keep getting my paint here as long as I'm in Boulder. read more

This is a Meh, I've experienced better Yelp review. I went in to buy a quart of paint for a small wall and ended up purchasing over $5,000 worth of Hunter Douglas blinds. Jackie, the sales woman, was just fantastic: I immediately liked her. She helped me pick out a great color of gray for my wall and obviously knew what she was doing. She came to the house to measure the blinds and I went in to Guiry's a few times to get more advice from Jackie, etc. It was a lovely experience and I felt I was in good hands. Fast forward a few weeks after I made the final order and paid, and I get a call about an installation time. I call to confirm and no one seems to know anything. Turns out, according to manager Lou, Jackie was extremely angry at the new manager and quit. Lou eventually called me after I asked to talk to higher management. Chris, a member of the design team who was scrambling to pick up all the pieces and accounts after Jackie left couldn't possibly be expected to get it all right and he certainly didn't, sending me someone else's invoice when I needed a receipt, and sending the installers to the wrong address 20 miles away! Lou assured me that only he (Lou) would be my point of contact for the rest of this ordeal. He never contacted me again. Here is what I've been told from people inside Guiry's AFTER I bought the blinds. The staff is paid a sub-standard wage. People who have been there years and are the ones getting all the great Yelp reviews for their knowledge and patience and who are trying to pay their rent earn UNDER $10/hour! New managers are mean, negative and "in your face" with criticism and harsh words to the employees. When I told Lou that if someone like Jackie, who has been there for many years, walked out that angry then there must be a problem with management. In telling these things to me, I felt that Lou was unprofessional. I hadn't asked why she left. Lou was very eager to vilify a loyal and long-time employee to me. It was only after I pushed back and insisted that there must be a problem with the manager's skill set that he admitted that the manager was also fired. He didn't like my push-back which is probably why he never contacted me again. Don't get me wrong -- I've been polite and patient throughout this process as I work in customer service, too.. (except I lost my temper when Chris, after talking with me on the phone for 30 minutes about my name, address, and order, still sent the installers to a different account. Sorry, Chris!) I told Lou that it is important to pay a fair wage to employees, to make them feel valued and part of the team. Lou told me he would pass my comments to the owners. Isn't that part of the reason we like to buy our goods from small businesses in the first place? And shouldn't a building that sells art and has a fancy design department look good? The place is so dirty and dingy and the ceiling looks like it's going to fall down. It's really awful and I think Guiry's owns the building. Where are all their profits going, I wonder. Guiry's does not seem to have business model I can support and it's why I will not return. My blinds were eventually installed and they look good, as they should when paying that kind of money. Next time I'll try harder to support a business where employees are working in a safe and supportive environment, and paid a living wage. read more

I ordered Hunter Douglass shades from Guiry's back in August. They measured the windows incorrectly, have had to return a number of times to try to remedy and still have not made everything work right. It's December 14th. They've lost parts, not brought the right tools, and on and on. I've had to call and email a number of times, play voicemail tag to set up appointments to be at my house so they could fix things. And it's still not done - I have to call them AGAIN on Monday because they haven't returned like they said they would to finish the final blind repair/re-fit. This has been, by far, the worst customer experience possible, ESPECIALLY given how much these shades cost. Hunter Douglass needs to find another distributor for Boulder. read more

I'm a painting contractor and I've spent thousands at this paint store I choose to go to here due to the product and quality of paint. Today I go spend $250 and I'm lacking $.49 however the guy that makes my paint would not let me take my paint without paying $.49. I had forgot my credit card and the nice lady behind me actually gave me the money. But regardless after spending 250$ today alone they could have just let me take my paint . Guiry's gets my "Best of Boulder" vote for all home painting and art supply needs. The selection of 3 oz. wall paint samples is fantastic and inexpensive so you can really try out a lot of colors and not end up with bad decorating surprises. The art supplies are relatively inexpensive and the staff seems very knowledgeable. I've gotten excellent service there--even when I had to run in while I had laryngitis and couldn't speak at all, they didn't blink and just got me everything I needed. I have used their art department for years with good service and products. So I decided to try their paint department for needed supplies for flood recovery. I thought I had figured square footage properly but when I was informed I needed 38 gallons of paint, I said I did something wrong. "Please tell me what I need for a 1000 sq.ft. room, 8 ft. ceiling". The response was " I can't do that sir, I can only go by square footage". Needless to say, I was a bit incredulous that, as professionals, the salesman could not figure what I needed. The computer guy working there was amazed too. Then the salesman stormed off! So we asked the long haired salesman the same question, 1000 sq.ft. room, how much paint. He responded the same way!!?? He couldn't do it!!?? At which point I left. My wife asked why they couldn't do the math, he said: "Your husband had the calculator so I couldn't use it". Then she gave up and left too. We drove over to Diamond Vogul paints on Walnut in Boulder. Gave him the "1000 sq. ft. with 8 ft. ceiling" requirement. 30 seconds later, using just his head, said 5 gallons would do it.
