Umlaut at Two Blokes Brewing, Mount Pleasant
Bruce K.

Time for dinner and since Two Blokes did not have a food truck on tonight's schedule, I stopped at Harris Teeter's salad bar and brought a "salad." Friendly welcome and I found a bench against the wall with a power outlet. Two beers, my salad and a bunch of wifi were my entertainment this evening. It's a comfortable space, the beers were good. I had the Umlaut Kolsch with dinner and tried the First Blood Hefeweizen that was too much orange for my taste so I went back to the Umlaut. It's in an industrial plaza and because they don't serve food, they're usually tolerant of dogs. There are also some picnic tables outside. We went out to this cozy brewery for a Save the Turtles event. The bartenders were busy but helpful and the beers were delicious. We loved the local art representing their beers.

The beer was just fine. Not necessarily the best I've had. Big place. Friendly staff.

If you're looking for some good beer and a great place to hang out in the Mount Pleasant area, look no further than Two Blokes. They've got lots of events going on throughout the week and my families favorite event is their competitive puzzle night. It's a great way to come, spend an evening and try to win some free beer (but you'd better not get too excited if we are there because we are undefeated and hold the record for fastest time). They've got a rotating list of food trucks that show up and have great food most nights. The beer itself is pretty decent and constantly changing. My favorite has been their Blood Orange Hefeweizen. We've always gotten great service here and my personal favorite bartender is Christina who is second to none when it comes to recommending the best beer for my taste

Tart Vader beer- really good!

A friend was looking at apartments in this area, so we ventured to Two Blokes for a few beers. It's conveniently located near I-526, so even if you don't live in Mt. Pleasant, it's not a bad drive from other areas. Be careful not to miss the left turn coming from the interstate- it's easy to miss in the dark. I tried the Tart Vader, Two Blokes' signature sour. The beer-tender recommended adding a shot of syrup (they offer several flavors), and I did. I enjoyed my beer, as sours are my favorite. I also tried a small pour of the SourDo-Se, which is a German sour packed with crushed pretzels. As expected, it tasted just like a pretzel- a sweet and salty flavor. Two Blokes has a diverse tap list, and my drinking partner got hoppier, darker beers and enjoyed those. They offer a few snacks, but no in-house food. A seafood truck was parked outside, but we stuck with liquid calories. Several patrons had dogs inside the brewery, so if you have allergies or aren't a dog person, be aware of this before you go. I'm not sure if there's an outdoor area or the dogs were inside because it was a chilly night. Most local breweries are dog-friendly, but I'm not used to seeing dogs indoors. Multiple breweries are nearby if you want to check out several, but we stuck with Two Blokes. It's a solid choice and I would return.

If you're in the Mount Pleasant area, put this hidden gem towards the top of your list! This is a cozy little nook that has great beer, service, and atmosphere. They definitely have their main brews, but every time we come they have something new to keep it fresh. Their beer has great quality and flavor. The service is top notch and they make a point to describe the flavors of the beers to help you pick ones you like, and they're so personable. They don't have a kitchen, but they have a good selection of munchies and the often have (amazing) food trucks, or just bring your own food! There's something for everyone here including TV's, an outside patio, and a little play area for little ones- and they're dog friendly.

Two Blokes Brewing is an independent brewery, locally owned which is located in Longpoint just beyond the 526 Interstate Intersection on the second right. Plenty of parking available beside this brewery along with a good truck. I don't know if the food truck is resident or if it changes up but a great addition considering the brewery doesn't provide any good in the establishment. Customers can go to the Food Truck and bring it into Two Blokes Brewing, making sure to clean up after yourself as there is no table service here. It's a cute pub, airy and open, with plenty of seating and a nice camaraderie atmosphere. We came for Team Trivia. It was a great night and a packed house. I'm not a beer drinker so cannot attest to their brews but it seems like they have a huge selection for people to choose from.

Beer is hit or miss, but the atmosphere is awesome! Very friendly service, lots of merchandise, good parking, flights are offered, diverse selection of beers, and they are dog friendly! I recommend the Scottish 80; I do not recommend Putin the Terrible Stout.

Strangley located in a sort of strip mall/office warehouse area. Really weird location, but don't let that drive you away. Lots of parking, L shaped bar with plenty of seating, soft playing music, and snacks like pretzels, jerky, sodas, and chips for purchase. They are very kid friendly here, so you might see some toddlers and babies and all that. Just be aware. Growler fills are about 20 bucks and crowlers check in at 13. Their merch is super cool and reasonably priced for a microbrewery in the Chucktown vicinity. My favorite beers were the Wicked Throat Chahmah NE IPA at 7.2% ABV and the Fog and Mist NE IPA at 7%. Both priced at $7.25 per. Not a super cheap place to drink homemade beers, but they do taste good to me. They have 2 dart boards, 1 large tv, a comfy leather couch and leather chair as well for your loungin' necessities. Good spot. Go check it out and swill a couple, two, tree.

Small brewery offerings stuck in the middle of a strip type business row.

A second stop on a self-made brewery tour our first night in Charleston! So far, they spaces seem so tiny! But I'm so delighted with the insurgance of breweries in the area. When I last visited 8 years ago, there were none! I liked the artwork, especially the Tart Vader, which is the sour selection for me. The kids were milling and screaming and since there was no real outdoor seating area, the floor space was fairly cramped. We snagged 2 bar stools luckily and I finally had something substantial to eat via a tent with (high schoolers) making tacos. So, we settled in to have a pint, but then on the way again for stop #4, the last one for the evening.

What a fun place! I went here a few weeks ago with my partner and two friends, and we had such a great time hanging outside at the picnic tables and tasting all the beers by ordering flights. My bf is preparing for a beer certification in which he has to identify different beers based on taste, smell, color, etc. This place was perfect to test his expertise as there were so many styles of beer to choose from. Staff was great, indoors had a cool vibe, and pandemic precautions were great. I highly recommend this place. Check out their cutest wooden flight boards (in the shape of their logo, a hat).

No Charleston microbrewery tour is complete without a visit to Two Blokes. Very cool vibe, with friendly, attentive service. Awesome selection of craft brews and a solid tapas-style pop up restaurant out front! Don't miss it!!!!

Inside the men's bathroom had two urinals and two basins. Also there is an outside bar with three TVs, one behind the bar and two in the covered entertainer's area. We sat outside so we walked to that outside bar with the friendly, efficient, effective server. We also ordered food, the Butcher's Burger and a set of single ribs with your choice of sauces. Unfortunately the ribs were overcooked and thus tough to bite off and then bit chewy. The burger was quite good, with cheese and sliced pork belly to upgrade any usual burger, but this meat was thick and also had slight bit of tomato jam. Other than the underwhelming, overdone preparation of the ribs, it was a good time for all as people came and went. IMPORTANTLY, on this date, they were selling cooked oysters in small groups ALL YOU CAN EAT (when's the last time you heard that?) for $30. The profit on the oysters is going to a Down's Syndrome support group. Excellent!

Great hotdogs, yummy sweet potato fries, delicious burgers- don't sleep on the pork belly BLT sliders! Everything I've ever eaten here has been great! I've only ever been on a game day, so I'm not sure if the flow is the same. But you order your beer/drinks and/or food at the bar or counter. Then they give you a number to head to your table. I look forward to many more good experiences here!

Blueberry Pie Gose Delightfully tart and fruity. It's sweet but quite tasty. A small pour is perfect. The malt they use even gives a hint of a bready crust. Carrot Cake Blonde Ale Definitely earthy aromas and very faint flavors of carrot, nutmeg, and cinnamon. There's even a little tangy finish that can remind you of cream cheese icing. It's not super sweet, which is nice. Glad to only have a small pour. I love carrot cake but I'm not in love with this beer. Mexican Cake Stout Habanero and Mexican vanilla Aromas of chocolate and vanilla hit you as you start to drink this delicious beer. The habanero is there and gives you just a little zing on the finish. Very smooth and velvety. Another small pour treat for me. I would definitely order this as a supper with any lighter or hoppier pint. IPA A bit of orange and pine on the nose. It's smooth drinking and very approachable. Slightly bitter and nicely dry. A good departure from the sweeter beers.

But, I think the design may be strategic. Unlike other Charleston area breweries, this one wasn't crawling with kids, which was a really nice change. You can probably bring kids there, but the space isn't really a family friendly one, and I thank you for this, Westbrook! The beers are fantastically unique and inventive. We really enjoyed the dessert stouts. And the beer servers were a delight to chat with.
