Overall: Great beer, great vibes, and great service. We'll be back for sure! The good: Lots of selections on tap with unique flavors. The Reaper had a hefty kick to it that is rare to find at local breweries, while the sours and left coast were refreshing. Awesome atmosphere that is laid back yet fun and inviting with board games, video games, good music, comfy seating, and more. Appreciated that they don't allow tips, which (I'm assuming) means they pay their staff well. Reasonable prices and helpful, friendly staff. They also sell growlers to go and have food trucks on rotation. Dog and baby friendly. The not-so-good: The HVAC unit outside is a little loud, so we opted to sit inside to avoid it. Done with sitting by the beach and working, it was time to find a new "office" accommodation for the afternoon. That turned out to be Ghost Monkey where I found a table by the gaming machines. I was able to set up the laptop and connect to work. Ghost Monkey is in an industrial office park. The interior is garage-like and since they don't serve food, dogs are okay inside and out. The decoration is quite eclectic with scarred tables, some of which are former cable reels. Most of the seating looks to be former school bus seats. But that's just part of the charm. The "Stretchy Pants" Kolsch was delicious and after a couple of hours, I was done with work and ready to head on to the next stop. Charleston has developed quite a reputation for great microbreweries over recent years, so a trip was in order. I started my tour at my best mate's favorite, Ghost Monkey. It's not a place you go for ambiance, but it's still got a cool vibe, amazing service and phenomenal brews! I tried a few, but have to say my favorite was the coffee blonde, a brew I've enjoyed at a few other breweries around the country, as well. This one has a bit of a spicy kick to it and is hands-down one of my favorites. One of the best deals on growler fills I've seen in awhile, too! I'd highly recommend spending some time here sampling the beers, playing some games and perhaps patronizing the food truck out front. read more

We stopped into Ghost Monkey Brewery last week after discovering this place existed in Mount Pleasant! We showed up on a Friday evening when it was dark and a little rainy outside. We did not have any intention of staying, but instead just wanted to grab some drinks to take home and enjoy there. Luckily for us, all of their beers were available in crowlers, already ready to go. The night we went, there was a deal on prices, although now that I'm writing this review I can't remember what it was... (lol, whoops. Maybe 3 crowlers for $15 or $20?) Whatever it was, we thought it was good enough that we actually purchased 6! We selected the following beers: Sparkles the Fluffy Unicorn (a cotton candy sour); Notorious HDHC (a New England HDHC IPA; full disclosure, IDK what "HDHC" means but I just searched it and apparently its a type of hopping technique that stands for High Density Hop Charge); Sour Peelings (a pickled jalapeno sour); Death by Mangos (Mango Carolina Reaper IPA); Salt Monkey Ale (a session ale brewed with Kveik yeast), and lastly, the Mallo-Monkey (a marshmallow cream ale). That night, we cracked open the mango Carolina reaper ale, which I personally was the most excited for. The beer was much better than I expected. It packed a decent amount of heat, but nothing overwhelming. My dad enjoyed it, and he is a stout/porter drinking/no spicy or heat loving person. So. This week (a week since purchasing the crowlers), we've enjoyed the cotton candy sour (yep! tastes like what you'd expect), the HDHC IPA (I liked it; my b/f didn't as much), and the pickled jalapeno sour (I didn't try this one, but I was told it is very tasty with much of the jalapeno profile coming through but almost no heat). We are still waiting to try the rest. COVID precautions looked fine -- there was limited capacity seating, socially distanced tables inside and outside, masks worn by employees, etc. I am erring on the side of caution when it comes to venturing out during the pandemic, but I would personally be willing to sit outside here and have a drink or two on a nice day due to their precautions in place. The picnic tables outside are easily more than 6 feet apart. Food truck is on site; it's actually the Dashi food truck!! *drool face* I had this food many of times when I worked downtown at MUSC and they would visit for the Food Truck Wednesday event... Pretty laid back on a Monday night. I was quickly greeted by Dave, who was AMAZING! I ordered a flight and enjoyed two tasty sours. Red Velvet is my favorite. I also had their Left Coast IPA and the coffee stout both versions, on CO2 and on Nitro. I really enjoyed the nitro version. Dave was a font of local knowledge, and provided me with ample dining options along with some of the local history. This is a truly friendly brewery with some tasty beers. read more

What a nice off the path brewery. I've never had an issue. I've only ever visited after covid, so I know that they have had to put a few things away such as their gaming systems and pool table. The inside space is small, but still has plenty of seating. The outside is large and has a bunch of picnic tables, with umbrellas, all distanced. They offer a good variety of craft beer and their staff is knowledgeable of each one. They offer crowlers to go. They do not have a kitchen on site, but most of the time have a good vendor/truck on site. If they don't, they're totally cool with you ordering in food or bringing some. I love this place! The atmosphere is great, the beer is great, and the ownership is great! They don't take tips, so if you leave a tip, check out the chalkboard wall to see where it will be donated to! We went on a Sunday afternoon and they have a permanent food truck, dashi. We came for the music bingo (winners get a free pint) and the pizza food truck! The host of music bingo was great and we had a lot of fun! The only thing that could help is more umbrellas outside for shade! Only some of the tables have them, so a lot of people were trying to sit inside. read more

So we did a mini self-guided Chucktown brewery tour/crawl...13 breweries in 3 days. Charles Towne Fermentory on the west side of the city was my favorite if you were wondering at all, but that's likely because they're geared toward what I like (New England style unfiltered murky IPA's). GMB was one of my top 3 favorites and here's why: Cool, friendly beertenders, reasonable pricing, plenty of close parking, and good beer. No pretension in this place either. Good spot to just hang and drink beers. 12 beers on tap here and they are pet friendly and allow pooches inside. They have strong and free WiFi (password is drinklocal), a pool table where you can rack 'em for free, free old school video games to play, board games, seating for 16 at a zig zag shaped bar, and plenty of tables at which to sit. Expect an eclectic array of music to be playing. One cool thing, they have hooks under the bar for your lady friend to hang her purse or for you to hang your man purse. Pints will run you $6.50 to 7.50 per and all beers are priced with tip included. Any additional tip you throw out there will be donated to charities of their choosing. Super cool idea! They are in the process of expanding their manufacturing area and have been open for about 2 years. Once they finish their expansion, they're looking to distribute their beers. I'm looking forward to that. Right now it's mostly just go in and drink some and that's about it. Flights of quatro tasters are $9.75 after tax and that includes tip. Try the Just Wheat It wit beer with mango orange (5.1 ABV). Purdy good. We also both liked the Ice Ice Baby Coconut Cream vanilla ale (6.1 ABV). Good stuff and both were $6.50 per pint including tip! We had a great experience at Ghost Monkey. The staff was great and masked up. The indoor area was open air, and there are tons of picnic tables with umbrellas to sit outside. A great variety of beer on top - there is something for everyone's taste preference. There were some non-alcoholic drinks for purchase and they appeared to be kid friendly. We came on a Saturday afternoon with live music. He was great!! There were also two food options available. We opted for the BBQ and it did not disappoint. After living in Texas, we can be a bit of a BBQ snob, and we both loved this food! All in all, very glad we decided to make the drive over from downtown Charleston on our vacation. read more

Overall good brewery, cool hangout, and good service with a decent price. The beers had good flavors and accurate descriptions -- most notable for me at this time was the mango reaper, but I feel as if it's difficult to recommend beers through a public review. So give it a go for yourself if you'd like! You can also get a flight that would come with 4-3oz beers for $9 and some change, which is worth it for me. The bartender was very generous with samples and helpful to find a brew that we might like based on our history of favorites. The brewery was a cool hangout -- kind of like you're in a garage with lots of seating. The seating was unique -- industrial sized pressboard reel and round tables. There was also regular bench seating and bar seating. There was a pool table and steel top darts to play -- "adults only" per the signage. The wall next to the pool table mimicked the stranger things Xmas light alphabet hanging so if you're a fan like me, you'd appreciate it. read more

Such a cool spot! A decent variety of beers and some cool bartenders. We came in on a Friday night and there was a live band playing some old Petty songs and other things with the same kinds of sounds. There was a decent sized crowd both inside and out! There was also a food truck: DASH which was super tasty as well! There is plenty of outdoor space to play games as well as inside space with old school Nintendo type games (not the arcade kind though). The also have darts, pool, and a good variety of board games: all games are free!! There are a variety of seating options and though the couches were the only option when we first got there, we ended up feeling like we were hanging out in someone's living room and they quickly made it feel cozy. I tried the flight so I could taste a few and was very surprised by their sour beer that has a sweet-tart taste. It's not their fault really, I just don't fit their demographic. What looks like a repurposed auto yard (complete with high fencing) and crowded gravel street parking - it ultimately was a giant yard for kids with a bar tucked in the back. Thank goodness for that too - as the decorations of monkey skulls and Stranger Things A-B-C art is definitely for a more mature crowd than 2-8 year olds. The kids outnumber the adults by 4-1 on the night we stopped in! There was only one "sour" type offering and we were warned to taste it first. It was some type of candy flavor - peppermint, I think - and it wasn't bad at all. We had our token visit & pint and went on our way. The neighboring houses are grateful to have a family-friendly watering hole, I'm sure. It is just such a juxtaposition to their intention as evident in their decor selections. read more

The location of Ghost Monkey is perfect for people who work in one of the manufacturing areas near wando lane. It's nestled in Mount Pleasant but it's only a 15 min drive from downtown. Ghost Monkey goes for that rustic feel and the atmosphere is awesome. Their tables and chairs inside are used steel wire spools. I like the efficiency of ghost monkey for getting your beer faster. Reasons for fast service. 1. A marked off area for paying blocked with bars. 2. Tip is included in your drink price. If you tip extra, they donate it to a charity of their choice. 3. Dry erase flight boards for deciding what to get. 4. Great bartenders. The most important part: Beer. I appreciate Ghost Monkey because they always have a decent amount of beers on top and a pretty good variety. Last time I went , there was IPAs, a saison, blonde, farmhouse, sour and a bunch of other types. I heard about this brewery for a while before stopping in recently. Our friends came in from out of town and we had a great time hanging out here one evening after work with kids. There are many games, including Nintendo and Super Nintendo consoles mounted in the walls, a gigantic Jenga set and a mountain full of games. There are games for the adults too with pool and darts. A great plane to come play. The beers were also really well done, they have a nice mix of a variety of beers. Definitely more than just 50 shades of IPA, like most breweries in the area recently. I really enjoyed the ESB and the peppercorn beers. I also go to try a friends coconut flavor, coffee porter, and a cotton candy sour. They also have fresh nitro brew coffee, soda and seltzer options for the DD in the group. Will surely be venturing back at some point! read more

It is the only brewery in the immediate area that is open until 10pm. They have a nice selection of beers but my favorite was definitely the Left Coast IPA. There is also pool, darts, board games, and a few TVs in the bar area. Lots of bar seats as well as couches and tables. I was loving the music they had playing as well! My friends and I were in the area and stopped by. We are only in the Charleston, SC area once each year and were excited to try out a new brewery. Ghost Monkey was easy to find and there was plenty of street parking on a Sunday afternoon. The beers were okay. We were disappointed that there was only one IPA on the menu and that was a Rye IPA. My friends all did flights and the reviews from them were "okay." There is a pool table--free pool is always nice. Darts too. One thing I must say about the place is that it was HOT and stuffy inside. There were a few small fans running but it was not enough to keep the place comfortable. They need to invest in a Big Ass Fan. You can buy pickles inside but if you want food, you have to go to the food truck outside. read more

There is ample parking, plenty of outdoor seating, but today, bloody hot. In we went. We stopped by late afternoon, rehydrating is important after touring the USS Laffey. The place meets the needs. There are seats, some games, a nice bar, and a solid beer selection. I did a flight, very reasonable. Of course some i liked, some were ehh, but thats personal taste. I had a great time at Ghost Monkey! One Saturday afternoon while in Mt P a friend and I headed over to check it out. I think I'm really starting to love the easy parking at so many breweries around town too! With downtown CHS changing the meter laws, breweries are even more appealing now. Anyway, Ghost Monkey has a nice large space, offers a pool table, dart board, (all for adults as the signs posted state) it's dog friendly and had plenty of seating and a nice big bar. Not as many beers as others but more than some and when we visited they didn't have a sour option available so I'll be back to try and catch a time when they do! I did enjoy the Lemon Basil IPA and Just Wheat It! options. We also really enjoyed talking with Josh, the owner and his uncle. Really great people. Even better people when you take into consideration that every penny that's left behind for a tip, goes to a charity. read more

We loved this brewery! My partner and I did a Charleston brewery tour (self-made lol) for her birthday and this was one of many stops. We got a flight to share and my favorites were the Pickled Jalapeño sour and the Mango Carolina Reaper IPA. There was a yummy food truck there (The Berlin) that we got garlic fries from. So good! My wife and I love visiting breweries with low or no expectations -- it leaves room for being pleasantly surprised, which we usually are. Ghost Monkey Brewery was one of those breweries for us. While visiting from MN, we happened to be in the area (we'd just visited nearby Hobcaw Brewing), and decided on a whim to check out Ghost Monkey. Located in an industrial warehouse in an industrial park, the taproom felt kind of like your uncle's garage that he homebrews from -- not exactly disorganized, but slapped together with random seats, tables, booths and paraphernalia. We loved it! The staff -- we think the owner and his wife may have been working -- were friendly and hospitable, and the beer was good. Ghost Monkey definitely felt like the kind of place we could spend a casual afternoon drinking and hanging out, and -- if we ever find ourselves in the area again -- we'll definitely return! Ghost Monkey Brewery is a great place to go enjoy local craft beer, with over 10-12 different beers to choose from. It's another favorite local brewery in Mt. Pleasant, which can be fun to brew hop between the 3 in the general area. The interior is anchored by a nice bar with large screen tvs, then there are various big soft love seats and other seating around. Plus there are some picnic tables outside to sit and enjoy a cold bear too. Simple games are available like darts, corn hole, and a pool table. Then they usually have a food truck on the weekends also. But you come here for the beer, so look at the big screen monitors which list the beers to find what you like. Or order up a flight, which is always fun to do also. I like the wheat beers the most, but also enjoy the brown and amber beers. Service is pretty friendly here, and they can always help with suggestions and even let you sample before you decide. I like the place and appreciate being able to stop by on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to just enjoy a cold beer. read more

Saw an add on Facebook where this brewery was hosting a free comedy show and decided to give it a try. The brewery is located near the Wando port terminal. Parking at the brewery is limited so we ended up in overflow parking at the cookie store across the street. Inside is casual and low key. The comedy show ended up being pretty good and was worth the trip out. However can't say the same for their beer. We tried five different types and only one, get to the hopper, was decent. The only thing redeeming about this brewery is any tipping is donated to charity. We will probably come back again for the monthly comedy show but wouldn't come just for the beer. read more

He and his family and friends have been working hard to get this up and running and it's finally here. It's a pretty small set-up, but they make do with the space. They also use the parking lot out front for overflow. It's not uncommon for them to have a food truck set-up outside to keep you from driving home too drunk. Better yet, take Uber or Lyft! You're gonna need it from tasting all their delicious brews. They even have a non-alcoholic fresh lemonade. It was quite tasty on a hot summer night before going home. read more

What a brilliant experience my friends and I had at this place last night. The beers are fantastic. My personal favourite was their Kölsch. The service was top notch. One of the owners "Josh" spent time going over the beer selection and gave us samples. The atmosphere was just perfect with a great band "The Green Thieves" playing and a really nice crowd. Darts and pool are free. BBQ food vendor onsite.....Just a perfect evening all around at this family oriented establishment. We had a great experience at ghost monkey for trivia. Because I have never been there before, I decided to try a flight. I tried mostly lighter beers because it was extremely hot outside. My favorite was "sassy"! I ended up getting another pint of that after I finished my flight. All beers were very good and the bartenders were very helpful and knowledgeable. The one drawback to our visit was the limited seating. The inside area was quite small and so we had to sit outside in the heat for trivia. It was not ideal because it was so hot. BUT the beer was cold and tasty and trivia was well executed! I plan on returning to try more beer and maybe do another trivia! read more

Ghost Monkey is a micro-brewery in Mt. Pleasant. In my opinion, it's the best in the Mt. P area. My favorite brew is the Haymaker farmhouse ale, but I like some of their sours as well. Dogs are allowed inside the brewery. Most days when they're open, they also have food trucks and sometimes live music. If I lived in Mt. Pleasant, I'd consider joining their growler club annually.
