I was not expecting this a mile from the airport. I think they are using Impossible meat. The burgers had a pretzel bun, smashed patty, vegan cheese, and I had the mushroom and grilled onions. They offer tots or crosscut fries--tots were great and gluten free. I had a chocolate cake shake that was outstanding. My wife said it was the best vegan burger she ever had and was hard pressed to tell the difference from a beef burger. I hope to go back next time we are in town. read more

Milwaukee has plenty of great vegan restaurants, but none near my workplace... until these folks showed up. Coming from food truck roots, they've established a brick-n-mortar location in Cudahy (replacing a burger joint.) They offer tons of super tasty options including the "Chopped & Screwed" cheesesteak style sandwich which I had this time... Yum! I'm not sure what kind of patty they use, but it has tons of flavor, and the "cheese" is surprisingly good (I'm usually not a fan of vegan cheese.) It's almost unfair to have vegan food this good. I don't know how I received this recommendation but I'm glad I did. I never even knew that this entirely vegan restaurant existed!!! And i work down the road!!!! First of all, the menu is vast but not overwhelming. There's an excellent variety for different tastes. Each entree comes with a large portion of waffle fries. I had the brat and my husband had the jackfruit sandwich. The jackfruit was a little more salty than we were used to but still incredibly delicious. We also ordered the cauliflower buffalo bites. The outer part was crispy. The inner cauliflower was just right, with just the right texture and not mushy. We ordered everything online on their website. It was easy and accurate and ready by the time we got there. Friendly folks behind the counter. I grabbed a menu for the future and immediately started to spread the word to friends. Vegan fast food in Milwaukee?! Um, yes please! I have not seen anything like this in the city, and it's refreshing to see more vegan restaurants with comfort foods. I got the cauliflower bites and they are hands down the best that I've had ever, especially the lemon pepper and sweet chili. Super flavorful, really delicious breading, and not soggy. My non-vegan dad loved them. The strawberry lemonade was amazing. I also got a peanut butter cookie bite that was delicious. The service at Twisted Plants was fantastic--the employees were so kind. We ordered takeout for curbside pickup and were blown away by how great the food was. We ordered Up in Smoke, Pineapple Express, and the Dazed and Confused drummies. The burgers were excellent. I'd probably skip the drummies next time, not because they weren't good but because nothing can quite compare to the real thing when it comes to chicken wings and I have yet to find a vegan replacement that I love. I've been hearing really great things about Twisted Plants among the vegan community in Milwaukee so I had to give it a try. They are currently only offering curbside pickup, which is very clearly advertised on their website. I would recommend calling ahead of time or ordering online ahead instead up trying to order at the restaurant because we ended up waiting about half an hour for our food. I can't really complain about that since I'm sure this is only temporary. When your order is ready, a staff member comes out and brings your order to your car which is really nice. As far as the food is concerned, it was absolutely delicious. We both ordered the Up In Smoke Burger that comes with waffle fries. We also got a side of Mozz Sticks, a strawberry lemonade, and a cookies n' cream milkshake. 1- The burgers/fries: SO GOOD. I love how many cool toppings they have to offer on their menu like homemade tempeh bacon and onion rings. I'm not sure if the burger patty is homemade or if it's the beyond burger but either way it was pretty good. The pretzel bun really made it all so special. The waffle fries are crispy and perfectly seasoned as well. 2-Mozz Sticks- I always find it fascinating how similar in texture plant based cheeses can get to the real thing. These mozz sticks were perfectly crispy on the outside and the cheese inside was gooey and stretchy. My husband really liked the mozz sticks and he normally turns his nose up to a lot of vegan food. 3- The drinks- the strawberry lemonade was HUGE. I was not expecting so much but it was so refreshing and pretty to look at. The milkshake was also good although a tad too much coconut flavor. If you don't like coconut, you won't like the milkshakes here. Overall I really loved Twisted Plants and I was glad to support a local black owned business in the Milwaukee area. Although a little pricey ($15.50 for the burger and fries), I can dismiss that knowing that I'm truly getting specialty plant based foods. I will be coming back! read more

I ordered take-out online and when I arrived to pick up the order wasn't ready so I sat down at a table to wait. A few min later a woman came in, accepted her take out and then walked out to her car, only to return a few min later. I got the impression her order was incorrect. After waiting 30 min I approached the counter to see where my food was. The young lady let me know that she accidentally gave the other woman my order, but she would bag it up for me right away. I was surprised to hear that and asked her if she was giving me the same food that the other woman had already taken to her car, and she confirmed that it was in fact the same food. I questioned her again suggesting that it was not really sanitary to now give me this food that was in possession of another customer for several minutes but she brushed me off and acted like it was no big deal. I didn't want to make a scene so I took the food, but the farther away from the restaurant I got the more grossed out I was. We tried to eat some of it, but I couldn't stop thinking about what may or may not have happened to the food. Is this a health violation? I discovered Twisted plants on my last day in Milwaukee and I'm so glad that I did! I had some of the best vegan food here and the cashier was such a breath of fresh air. He was super kind and friendly! My boyfriend and I ordered the nuggets, but they were out so we ended up getting the cauliflower bites and boy was I happy we ordered these! The flavor of the Buffalo sauce paired with their ranch very well! As someone who has been vegan for awhile, ranch is something I feel some places just miss the mark on, but not twisted plants! Their ranch was phenomenal! We also got the Superbad burger and were so pleased with the flavors. The pretzel bun really ties it all together and makes this burger stand out! The burger came with waffle style fries that were unbelievable. We got the chipotle ranch and the smokehouse sauce for dipping and I highly recommend them. If you love steakhouse style sauce you'll LOVE the smokehouse sauce! We both ordered their strawberry lemonade and could not believe how generous the portions sizes were! The sliders/burgers were appropriately tender and condiments were delicious without taking away from the taste of the burger. The comfort food that vegans make at home is now available out in the wild! And I've got to say, I don't think even home-made vegan comfort good is as good as this is. I will swear on a stack of anything you want me to swear on that their shakes are so delicious that no one would be able to tell they are vegan. The "chicken" sandwich I had was like no other vegan "chicken" I've had elsewhere. It was a very thick slice in the sandwich, almost too big for me to wrap my mouth around. And super duper tasty! My companions also adored their sandwiches, too. The fries that accompany the sandwiches are perfect. They seem to be doing pretty darn good business, too. We sat outside for an hour, eating and relaxing, and watched a steady stream of customers picking up their orders. So wait times can be a bit long, 30 minutes or so, so make sure you place your order ahead of time with a good cushion for your appetite.
