This is my new go-to place when I'm in town. It has yet to disappoint. I've gone there mostly for dinner, and a couple times for brunch. You can tell there's a pretty brilliant mind for food in the kitchen. I had a halibut dish a while back that was quite possibly the best fish I have had. Not necessarily for the flavour of the fish alone, but because the ensemble of texture and taste of the dish was so well done. The fish was atop a bed of a mashed potatoes and strips of beet, which added an amazing texture to the fish when eaten all together. It's the kind of place that puts foods in new combinations that you never knew would be so good together. We had the mussels to share as well, and the cheese platter, both excellent. For brunch, the eggs benny were great. The first time we went we were initially were told there would be a wait, but the staff found a place for us much more quickly than expected. The brunch cocktails were great as well; some creative options on there. Overall, it's a fun place to eat and you'll get some experiences in flavour I guarantee you won't get elsewhere. read more

Stopped in for the Benny, had to go back for the French Toast. I was in Vancouver for a week and to my surprise I had to repeat. Food was top-notch; friendly prompt service and great banter with the staff who all appear to really love food. Tip - try the Brutus - it's their play on a Caesar, but refreshing in a very dill-y sort of way, and does wonders for a hangover. read more

We ate here the day after Valentines Day and couldn't have been happier with our selection. While we had to wait over an hour for a table it was well worth it. They put us on the list and texted us when our table was opening up. This allowed us to walk down Granville and grab coffee. The staff was absolutely amazing. They were very friendly from the start. Always there when we needed something and took very good care of us. We didn't feel rushed so they could turn the table either. The food was absolutely incredible. The banana bread was the best I've ever had. They had whipped butter and the most amazing blueberry vanilla jam. I'm not one who eats jam much, but you must try it. They also bring it out for the delicious sourdough bread served with most entrees. I had the spicy sausage with poached eggs and I cleared my plate. I'm craving it again, already. My partner also had the scrambled eggs and loved it. Great place to grab brunch weekend brunch. I will be back! read more

It was busy. Really busy. I was by myself so I didn't have wait really. Oh, the french toast was so, so good. I ended up walking all over Vancouver that day, and this was a great way to kick it off. read more

The brunch selection was short, but excellent. My girlfriend and I had the Banana-stuffed French Toast and the Eggs Benny and were having mouth-gasms the entire time. The portions are good, coffee was served in individual french presses. They offer an array of exotic preserves for sale (jellies, jams, vegetables, sauces) which I'll have try next time. read more

Went here for brunch. Seemed pretty crowed for a Wednesday but maybe it was an early lunch crowd. We were seated at a table in the back and ordered two eggs benny (one w/ mushrooms and onions and another w/ maple turkey sausage). Very tasty, good portions and great service. The special touches to the decor and menus made this place a hidden gem on an otherwise uninteresting block of Granville St. read more

Twisted Fork - Eggs Benny - French Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

I was visiting Vancouver for work and had a few days on my own and wanted to try some of the local breakfast shops and was told to go to the Twisted Fork which was really close to my hotel. I visited at about 8:30 am on a Saturday and was pleasantly seated at a table for one with a nice bench seat and pillows for your back. Phish was on the radio pleasantly setting the tone with "Bouncing Around the Room". The all female staff made me feel like I was at home while my mother and sister happily conversed in the kitchen while making a delicious home made breakfast. I ordered an O.J. and Pineapple juice because I'm not a big fan of coffee and would have preferred fresh squeezed instead of the store bought stuff they serve. However they do offer a good menu of adult brunch drinks so I understand. The menu is very nice and they have cool twisted forks used as a decorative touch. After reading some of the reviews on Yelp I decided to try the eggs benny. The food took about 15 min and was served HOT which was perfect! The eggs were perfect and burst open with grey yolk over a huge piece of perfectly toasted buttery French bread and crispy thick-cut bacon. The hash browns or extra crispy which I personally love and didn't need to request, and the sauteed spinach was a little greasy but the flavor was all there. There baked beans tasted more like a chili than a breakfast dish so the flavor didn't pair very well. The ketchup. The ketchup was the best ketchup I've ever tried! I would definitely go back again. read more

Twisted Fork - French Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Over priced. Hash browns are not very good. Menus very basic. Nothing out of the ordinary. Over rated in my opinion.

Wife and I were looking for something close to our airbnb and this popped up. Tight spacing but very pleasant staff and fun food. Had the baked eggs and wife had Croque Monsieur; which we both really enjoyed. read more

Fantastic food. Great place for breakfast/brunch. We both got the Eggs Benedict (benny), I got smoked salmon for the first time and was impressed. She got mushrooms which were A1. Lovely sides are added to the dish including beans, spinach and a potato hash. Orange juice was not freshly squeezed which is a big thumbs down in this day and age. Will definitely be back for the French toast which comes stuffed with banana and looks like heaven on Earth in breakfast form. read more

Over priced food and un-accommodating staff. Have not visited this place for a while and will not be doing so anytime soon

We came to twisted fork for brunch based off of yelp reviews. I'm glad to say, it did not disappoint! We were greeted warmly and sat promptly (note, we went early to avoid the fabled wait time, about 9 am). Our waitress was incredibly friendly, giving us menu recommendations and even general trip information about Vancouver. The menu was phenomenal, the only issue being it was hard to choose. I went with the Eggs Benny, my friend the Gouda Egg Bake, and we started with the Asiago scones. Every bite was worth the food coma that ensued. I would recommend this to couples, or a small group of friends (3-4) as it is comfortably crowded quarters. read more

Twisted Fork is one of our favourite restaurants. The food is out of this world amazing (brunch or dinner, it's all YUM) the staff is nice and helpful, and the drinks are REALLY good too. If you are going for brunch and see the long waiting list, don't despair! The wait is SO worth it! PROMISE Some tips: If you are going for brunch and don't want to wait at least 30 minutes, get there by 10:30am Tuesdays is their Mussels half price day (9$) so if there are more than 2 in your party, be prepared for a little bit of a (totally worth while) wait (have a glass of wine or a cocktail while you wait). My favourite main is a toss up between their Chicken (stuffed with delicious goat cheese, spinach and hazelnuts!) and the Duck Breast (cooked perfectly and served with pillowy whipped potatoes, delicious-still-a-bit-crispy green beans and carrots and a brusselsprout - veggie mix. My guy's fave is the Lamb Shank...we still aren't too sure how this shank is the most tender, fall-off-the-bone meat, but it is! And don't forget the appies! Sometimes we go in late night (after 10pm) when mains are no longer served, and we just order a bunch of the yummie appies and some wine and YUM! read more

Went to this place on a brunch date as the person I was meeting said she felt safer meeting me in person during the daylight. That was fine with me, should've known it wasn't going to work out though, I'm more a of a spoon person than a fork person anyhow. Anywho, I got there and was seated pretty quickly. I let the server know I was waiting for someone and she put me in a nice spot. Had a look over the menu while I waited for this mystery lady. No soup, too bad. I decided on the french toast. It was pretty good, I'm known as the "sweetheart with the sweethtooth" in my circle so I definitely enjoyed it. I personally like a lot of syrup on my french toast, enough that the bread breaks down and gets mushy, but I mean, do what you want with it. My date never showed up. read more

Love the cocktails, and appies. Have only eaten dinner here once and it was pretty good, but not excellent. What IS excellent are the desserts! A rotating special Crème Brulé and other tasty treats are our main reason for making the trek to Granville street. We once had an Anise flavored crème brulé that was amazing, with just a hint of creamy licorice. Also, I'm a huge fan of citrus so just had to try the in house made lemon tart. It had a firm shortbread crust the filling was a perfect balance of sweet and sour and was served with candied orange peel that had been hollowed and stuffed with sour cream ice cream and re frozen and sliced like an orange wedge. It was an added decadence that made the tart go from tasty to stellar. Really, sour cream ice cream. So decadent it should be outlawed. Mmmmmm...... After reading the other reviews, it has become apparent that I'm going to have to come for brunch....and soon! Can't wait to try it out! If I have one major criticism it's that they are one of those places that hire for the "looks" in their female staff members. I feel like a broken record because I say it in a lot of my reviews BUT of the 4 times I've been there I've only gotten good service once. One very sweet girl was so out of it that the chef in the open kitchen had to remind her twice that our food was ready, even though it wasn't busy and she had walked past it several times. Clueless. read more

You might be young if you can stay up until 4:00. You might be old if you wake up at 9:30 regardless. Good news: if you leap out of bed, you MIGHT get to Twisted Fork before a half-hour line forms. More good news: like me, it's worth the wait. One suggestion: the booze might not be the place to be all inventive with the recipes. I like a standard mimosa, and I think 90% of the hungover fellow patrons feel the same. There's a reason a classic is a classic: it's intelligent. Don't reinvent the wheel, and don't reinvent breakfast booze. read more

Great food and service. Unique atmosphere. I was visiting Vancouver for a few days and this was one of my favorites.

Walked in and was able to get a table right away. The staff was friendly. Asked about the menu, took staff suggestion for the Croque. I was extremely disappointed. It was overpriced for what I paid for. The greens were better then the sandwich. Should not have been served with a tomato sauce it didn't go with any other flavors on the plate. My cocktail was not very good. None of the the flavors blended well and i dont often complain about booze, but if I wanted to sip straight rum I would have ordered an ounce on the rocks. My friend had an eggs benedict and it was very good. The service after our food was served was not existent. I would not come back or suggest it to a friend. read more

Delicious! Smaller sized restaurant so seating takes longer. But definitely worth the wait!

I hope you have a GPS because this place is easy to miss. I was walking down the opposite side of the street and didn't see it at all. Then when I traced my footsteps back up the other side, I nearly missed the restaurant again! Twisted Fork is a cozy, upscale bistro with mostly incredible food and great service. I knew it can get busy so I tried to get there closer to opening at 6pm but it was more like 7pm or so. I asked if they had a table for 1 and they were able to seat me in a cozy corner near the host station/bar, which made for some entertaining people-watching of the servers. The menu is full of delicious-sounding items, with small plates coming in at around $10 and closer to $20 for larger entrees. I ordered several small plates so it evened out. To start, I ordered the frenchy cocktail - vanilla vodka, maple syrup, and orange juice. It was quite good and appropriately 'girly' for me with a sweet and delicate flavor, but not skimping on the booze. My waitress, who was a doll, asked if I wanted all of my dishes at once or one at a time, and I told her I didn't care. I was a little surprised when the shortribs came out first but my taste buds sure were darn happy! I don't think I've ever eaten a pile of beef so fast in my life and it took a great deal of restraint not to lick the plate clean. The only negative were the uneven temperature of the green beans which were apparently supposed to be served cold, but sitting under the shortribs, some were cold, some were hot, and some were in-between. Confusing. My second dish was scallops and bacon, which was probably the most balanced dish of the three. While not quite as impressive as the delicious shortribs, the scallops, bacon, onions, and potato puree were all very pleasing to the palate. The final dish to arrive was the grilled pesto sourdough and it was also the most disappointing and I wouldn't order it again. The pesto was quite 'leafy' and the tomatoes sour. I didn't want to end my meal on a disappointing note with the pesto bread, so I ordered a caramel Napoleon for dessert. Oh. My. Word. While the thin almond cookies tasted slightly burnt, the caramel flan, maple ice cream, and raspberry sauce were to die for. The twisted fork design in the powdered sugar was a cute touch and all of the food was beautifully presented. The final bill came to about $50 for one person, but I probably ordered enough for about 1.5, so I would figure on the average cost being $30-40 per person and not $50. However, it was definitely the high-end highlight of my trip and well worth the splurge. read more

I visited here on a recent trip and had the perfect brunch. The french press coffee was amazing. The eggs were the right texture. The homemade jam on the sourdough bread added the right crunch to the mix. I wish I could eat here every day. read more

TF, is a little better than ok, but not great. I've eaten dinner here, and had brunch three times. Pluses: the food is pretty good. It's not great. It's certainly not 5 star, people are way too quick to 5 star on this site. It skews the ratings badly. Service was good as well, considering how busy it always is. Minuses: the seating is horrific. Extermely uncomfortable ratty benches and stools. God help you if you get the tables near the door. Almost nothing celiac-friendly. There is one item at brunch, and nothing at dinner without modifications. Get with the times TF. read more

One of the best dining experience I have had in a while! I went for dinner on a Tuesday. Made sure to get there around 6:30 so we'd have time to order the three course dinner for $25. They sat us in a fabulous booth. The kitchen line is open right on the side of the dining room so you can see everything. Not sure how these two guys (one of them being the owner) were able to make such amazing dishes so calmly!! The dining room is small but cute and I love the way they present the menu on clipboards with twisted forks on them. Our hotel had called ahead for us and said it was our anniversary and bought our wine. Very nice! Andrea, one of the owners, was so nice to us and gave us a great booth. Our server Lisa was such a sweetheart. She was always there when we needed her but never overbearing. My boyfriend got the beet salad. I hate beets but it was incredible. Just the right amount of goat cheese and even the frisee was delicious!! Then had had the lamb which he said was incredible. He was practically licking the plate at the end. I had the mussels special. For $8, what a steal! The mussels were just the right size and the cream sauce was DELISH. I never finish my dinner and I actually ate everything on my plate. We finished off with creme brulee, the final part of my boyfriend's three course meal. It was delicious as always and the raspberries were a nice touch. We wanted to get the almond dessert that everybody raves about to take back to our hotel but the chef said it wouldn't travel well and I appreciated his honesty. My boyfriend also loved getting his coffee in the french press. Nice touch!! I would go here every week if I lived here. I only wish we had a few more days in town so we could try their brunch. Absolutely fabulous!!! read more

* Cute place. The best seat is near the window facing Granville St. where you can stare at the randoms saunter by. But if you're a larger party, I suggest the booths in the back. * Friendly staff--our server especially was a complete babe. ;) * Lovely choice of music: The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Edwin Starr & more. * My crab cakes were lukewarm = me not being happy. Both the accompanying relish and the aoili were quite awful I have to say. * The French onion soup was different. A bit peculiar. Instead of putting the soup in a deep, small bowl it was in a shallow, massive hybrid plate-bowl (there must be a name for this). Anyways this made the soup get cool, very fast. Also they didn't cover the soup with toast/cheese and then put it in the broiler. They just put the miniature slices on the side. I really hope they change it to a smaller bowl because you couldn't finish it without it getting cold! * The desserts were nothing special, but enough to satiate a sweet tooth. Oddly, almost everything on the dessert menu had a mention of raspberry, which my dining companion didn't like as he hates raspberries. I know, bizarre. :O I did see other things on the menu that I probably would have enjoyed, so I will be back. But the final note about the Twisted Fork: come for brunch instead--even with the wait. read more

We were looking for a good breakfast spot near our airbnb on our first morning in Vancouver and happened upon this gem. Great food, the service and staff is phenomenal, would highly recommend! read more

After reading so many positive reviews about this place I was pretty stoked to finally try it. I called before leaving to see how long the wait to get breakfast would be and it was tolerable, then when we showed up there was no wait at all, just a table for two waiting for us! I'm kind of torn on the rest of my experience however, and I'll explain why. The staff were awesome, super friendly and very attentive, so full points to them. I wanted sangria, but they were all out, so the waitress let me order a drink from the dinner menu, since I was craving a mojito. The BF ordered a Brutus, which is their answer to a Cesar. The mojito was more like a minty lemonade, which was okay, but didn't quite hit the spot. The BF's Brutus was garnished with a pickled brussel sprout and green bean, and looked pretty murky, which made me hestitant to try it. But after one sip, I was sold, the touch of dill and horseradish gave it the perfect mix of spicy and tart. For breakfast, there weren't too many veggie options, and the ones on the menu came with baked beans? For breakfast? I ended up going for a benny with avocado, and the BF ordered the asparagus scramble. I have to admit, my breakfast was just okay, the only thing missing from the baked beans was some weiners, sure they were made in-house, but they didn't taste any different than any other baked beans I'd had, and I certainly wouldn't want to open a can of beans at home for breakfast, so I'm not sure why it seemed like a good idea here? Can't we just get some hash browns? Or a side salad? I was not a fan of the brioche that my eggs (which were actually cooked to perfection) were served on. It was sweet and the rest of my breaky was savoury so it made for a strange combination. I couldn't finish my breakfast, and honestly I didn't really want to, it just wasn't what I had hoped for, and I found it strange that the spinach and carmelized onions came on the side in a neat little package rather than on the benny. The BF's breakfast was pretty good, and if I do return, I know this will be what I order. It was very simple, and he got toast and jam instead of baked beans (no fair!) Luckily the portions were pretty big and filling, so I got to nibble on his breaky a bit more than I should have. Overall, the BF won in the drink and breakfast contest. When the bill came we noticed that the breakfasts were rang through as $13.50 each as opposed to the menu where they were listed as $12. Confused, we asked the waitress why there was a discrepancy, and she explained that the HST was included in the cost of the breakfasts already (which still should have only been $13.44/each) Ok fine, but then why were the drinks listed as $8 each and $8 on the bill? Was there no HST charge on them? Or was it included on the menu price? And if you're going to include the HST on the price, why not include alcohol tax too? This seemed strange to us, and we wondered how many customers actually checked their bills and inquired about this? I took a gander over the dinner menu, and it looked pretty good, but again, there was only one main vegetarian dish. There were some small sharing plates available that were veggie though, so maybe we'll give dinner a try instead, and then I'll get my own Brutus. read more

Okay so every time I walked by Twisted Fork, there was always a line up. And I always wondered if it was one of those places that always had a line up, just because. Boy was I wrong! Love the decor inside and the staff are super chill (surprisingly because it's always a packed house). At first I was a little hesitant to pay $4 for a cup of coffee, but it's honestly coffee made from the Gods. Would have had another pot of my bladder wasn't so bleedin' small. I also ordered the spicy pork sausage frittata and it was huge and super duper tasty.. and also stole some banana bread from my friend. The banana bread was so nice and crispy - that was a first and definitely won't be my last. read more

Places like this are not easy to find along the Granville Strip (particularly in this area which is veering from the entertainment district to the "where can I get some cheap porn?" district. This place is tucked away, not very big, and I have walked right past it I don't know how many times. But, having heard much about their infamous three course "Blue Fence Special", the boyfriend and I decided to try it out. The interior to this place is super cute. Red, textured wallpaper, modern art on the walls, and their logo, the "twisted fork" incorporated into a lot of their decor. We sat in these lovely window seats with lots of cushioning and pillows strewn about, making the relaxed atmosphere even more comfy and lovely. It would be a good place to come for a warm dinner on a rainy day for sure. This deal they offer between six and seven Monday through Thursday is a gem. With mains alone costing around 20 bucks each, for 25 you get an appy, a main AND a desert. One of the best dinner deals in town from what I've experienced. And the food...ooohhhh the food. I had a fig and goat cheese salad to start and my GOD was it ever yum. The salad itself was somewhat sweet, the figs being particularly good, but the goat cheese was the perfect texture and flavour, and came on a croustada which was also impeccable. Not too hard, not too soft. I had the Halibut for a main, and it came with this delicious thick sauce and some of the yummiest mashed potatoes I have ever had. The fish itself was delicious, perhaps a teeny bit oversalted, but overall as a dish, it was definately solid. The dessert was lovely. The boyfriend had the basil creme brulee, which I was slightly dubious about, but after sampling a teeny bit of, found to be probably one of the yummiest creme brulees I've ever had. The basil is more of an essence than a flavour, and the flavour and texture of the whole dish was beyond delish. I had the Chocolate Terrine which was a giant portion of decadent frozen chocolate mousse with raspberry...along with one of the most delicious, fresh-tasting raspberry sorbet's I have ever had. All this for $25. Are you kidding me? You have got to try this place, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Bonus points: Take a girl here for a first date guys...she'll think you splurged big time. The food is SO good and of such high quality, this deal is a total steal. Take advantage! read more

Seated finally in the back of the room and having already drank a number of mugs of coffee while studying the menu it would not be long before we were greeted by our server, a perky young lady named Hilary and with glasses of water poured and a tall orange juice ordered by my aunt I asked if we could order right away to which she was quite agreeable although somewhat aggravating in overzealously complimenting each and every choice. With orders placed to include a couple of appetizers it was surprising that the small kitchen could produce such a variety of food so quickly but literally within ten minutes of seating our first two items would arrive hot and fresh including a pair of Asiago Scones with Butter and Roasted Pepper Jam and two thick slices of Banana Bread with Butter and Quince Jam. Beginning first with the scones, each was nice and toothsome with pockets of both butter and cheese juxtaposed against a semi-sweet background nicely accented by the jam - a bit hot, but more so sweet. Moving next to the Banana Bread, a textbook example with molasses, walnuts, and cinnamon aplomb but just a bit dry for my liking - a problem solved by the butter and jam, a particularly sweet puree that was so good I'd have certainly bought a jar to take home had we not been flying in the post-9/11 era of liquid restrictions. With the appetizers long gone and the coffee refilled once again it would be just under thirty minutes after seating that our main plates would arrive and having seen each ordered by tables around us we knew we had our work cut out for us as portions were sizable to say the least. Beginning first with my aunt's selection, always one to opt for sweet over savory, the "Banana Stuffed Brioche French Toast sprinkled with cinnamon icing sugar and a side of whipped cream and maple syrup" would arrive as three enormous slices of rich bread laced with cream cheese, overly ripe bananas, and cinnamon with fruit and the whipped cream on the side. Not one to fancy maple syrup my aunt delved into this plate with the whipped cream and fruit only to declare it as "okay, but not very sweet" despite complimenting the bread and knowing that she would never finish such a portion on her own a small side plate was requested and taking one of the three slices for myself along with some whipped cream I will note that although the flavor of the toast itself was a little tame, the addition of maple syrup helped substantially. Moving on to the savories as there were no other sweets on the menu my mother's selection would prove the least successful of the group as "Well done Gruyere Baked Eggs with Sourdough Toast, Bacon, Rosti, and Baked Beans" would arrive in a small crock topped with bubbling cheese and lovely sourdough but eggs that had not been broken or blended thus leading to some areas of pure white and others of just yolk creating a heterogeneous admixture that simply did not work (though I will note the rosti, beans, bacon, and tomatoes were all quite nicely prepared.) For my sister, the "Bacon, Caramelized Onion, and Brie Frittata filled with plum tomatoes, fresh oregano, fresh greens, and sweet corn relish" would prove a successful if not exciting option as the large omelet was golden on the exterior and creamy within as specks of crunchy bacon dotted the landscape for both taste and texture. Tasty and naturally sweet with the greens kissed by a light vinaigrette I will note that the corn relish was not appreciated by any of us as it was much too sour for breakfast (or dinner, really.) For my selection, a choice I'd have made even if there were pancakes or something else sweet on the menu, the "Croque Monsieur with Brioche, Gruyere, and Ham with Fresh Greens and House Tomato Sauce" would prove to be the best item of the morning and easily weighing in at a half pound I was stunned by the bread to meat/cheese ratio and even more impressed by the fact that the buttery brioche was not only stuffed with melting Gruyere but also topped with caramelized crunchy cheese as well. With the ham plenty briny and not the least bit stringy or 'wet' as the crisp salad lent a bit of acid to the plate another star of this dish was actually the tomato sauce - somewhere between rich creamy tomato soup and a true pasta sauce it was nice on the sandwich but far better by the spoonful. Again sitting and drinking coffee while planning the rest of our day Hilary would once again return all rainbows and butterflies and asking if we would like anything else (including yet another refill of coffee which I grudgingly declined) the check was delivered with a "whenever you're ready" while plates were cleared. A nice place with good food I cannot say whether or not they are the "best" brunch in Vancouver as it was the ONLY brunch we had in Vancouver, but all things being equal I also cannot say that I'd ever wait more than twenty minutes for Twisted Fork Bistro again because really, a good breakfast just isn't that tough to find. read more

my friend and i found ourselves dining here during their meat & whiskey thursday. so we got some whiskey based cocktails. i think it was called something ginger ale. it was delicious. slightly weak, but its ok! it was half off. the meat dish consisted of 3 different types of meat: beef, lamb, and chicken. beef skewer kind of a thing, lamb ragu, and chicken cordon bleu. they were all good. i am not a meat eater, but somehow ended up loving this. we ordered a side dish of spatzle, which was excellent too. i loved their little pieces of pickle that balanced out the cheesey flavor. really great. thank you yelpers for guiding me to this place. i love you vancouver. read more

Have been to Twisted Fork a bunch of times for brunch (amazing) and recently tried their 3-course set dinner menu for 25$. It's only available Sundays through Thursdays I believe from 6-7pm. Holy Canned Goods Batman, this place takes the cake! We went here a few weeks ago on a spur of the moment whim and were completely wowed! The food was AmAzInG! Tantalizing short ribs tender enough to melt in your mouth, duck confit tasty as could be, and plump mussels waiting to be eaten by me and my partner in some sort of frightening feeding frenzy. Definitely hard not to lick the plates clean but those of us with manners know better... barely. The feature to this restaurant was in my opinion the canning they do in house... jarred peaches, pears and chutneys adorn the wall opposite the bathrooms giving the place an almost grandma's larder sort of comfy feeling without the strange aroma. They jarred pears were on the menu accompanying the short ribs and were perfect. The dessert was even better because as is said in other reviews the chef is a pastry chef so they know their stuff! We slurped down a warm bowl of red wine poached pears, figs and plums dolloped with a fluffy white cloud of marscopone. Yum! The only draw back was the drink menu, every cocktail looked good but it felt like they were one ingredient (too many or too few) shy of amazing. For instance the cerveza float was lovley but needed the most simple of ingredients to make it sing... salt. Overall loved it and will go back... btw their pre fixed menu is cheap and judging by the portions we devoured, sizeable. read more

I went here for brunch based on the stellar recommendations here, but found it just ok. Great service, cool space, but the food was not enough to make me want to go back. We were seated right away as there just happened to be a two-top open when we walked in - so great on a Sunday when you're starving and expecting a bit of a wait. We ordered the Croque Monsieur and the Baked Gruyere Eggs. A bit underseasoned, both dishes were good but had no zing - didn't pop. The baked gruyere eggs were perfectly cooked but could have used more flavor, i.e., more gruyere. I was really excited about the brioche croque Monsieur but it, too, was underwhelming. The side salad that came with the sandwich only had salt, pepper and a very light coating of olive oil. A light vinaigrette would have been so much better. I did love the French Press. For $3, it is great value and the coffee they use is good - bold, balanced. I think this place is a good addition to the Granville strip, but my experience wasn't enough to make me want to go back. Cafe Medina is still my brunch place for now. Provence Marinaside if you want a more civilized atmosphere and don't want to stand outside while waiting for a table or sit in very close quarters. read more
