On a recent trip to Kelowna we met with an old friend of ours who lives in Kelowna and we suggested dinner at Basil and Mint. After dinner our friend said that next time we should go to the Yacht Club with him for dinner. Our server Scott has been our server on previous occasions but this evening the service was not up to the usual standards. It was a busy evening but it took a long time for our entrees to arrive. We shared an order of escargot again but on the occasion the escargot were very small. Our entrees when they finally arrived consisted of a salmon special for our friend, chicken parmesan for my husband and beef short rib for myself. My husband found the chicken lacking in seasoning and flavour. My short rib was dry and stringy. It was terrible and definitely not worth the $42.00. When the server came with the pepper grinder and asked we wanted pepper we all responded yes. She did the pepper for my husband and myself and then walked away. We had to flag down another server to ask for pepper for our friend. When our friend left the table and Scott came by and asked how our dinners were we expressed our disappointment he just asked if we had been served the same meals on other occasions. Should this make a difference? You should be able to have consistently good food and it should not be dependent on what you order. We ordered crème brulee for dessert. It was so disappointing because we had suggested Basil and Mint to our friend. He did not comment on his meal but the fact that he suggested another restaurant for our next dinner speaks volumes. We might give Basil and Mint another try because we have had very good experiences before but they are no longer a must visit when we are in Kelowna.

I forgot to make my review when I had this place last - and unfortunately it is going away :(…read more I really enjoyed the ambiance of this place. You walk in and it's always bumping and bartender is always making funky and cool drinks and everyone's always having a great time. Lots of conversation between friends or even between strangers at the bar. Service was always great. The best dish is the brussel sprouts - it always has something funky in it - marshmellows or grapes and then cheese. It was so enjoyable and they truly believed in their culinary art. I've always appreciated their evolution of their dishes and it was never boring to come back again and again. I truly hope the owners are able to create another restaurant as creative as this one and make it last. I really truly enjoyed this!

We booked a Happy Hour reservation for the long Sunday Easter long weekend at 4:30pm and we were the first to arrive. As Salt & Brick has an evolving fresh sheet menu, you never know what's on the menu but they usually have a few staples like their Brussel sprouts. As this was my boyfriend's first time here, we ordered the Brussell sprouts with popcorn and the Rigatoni. We were given the regular menu but did inquire about Happy Hour and the Brussel sprouts, pastas, and charcuterie board were on special. Unfortunately, they didn't have any oysters available that day. Small cozy atmosphere with a cute front porch. It's a small bar and kitchen that you can see and wonderful that you see and hear all the food being freshly made to order. Our server was friendly, chatty, and attentive but also gave us our space too. The Brussel sprouts served with cheddar popcorn, grapes, and ripped beer cheese is a bit salty, sweet, and so satisfying! My partner doesn't love Brussel sprouts but really enjoyed this dish. The Rigatoni was a bit rich with a nettle became sauce but served with the earthy lily spears, it was a well rounded dish altogether that we also enjoyed. Cute restaurant on the Downtown main strip that isn't a major chain, which is refreshing. Will continue to visit next time in town and hopefully they will have oysters then!

Also the waiters and the hostess was very funny! FOOD: We got the steak tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly! I really enjoyed the charred broccolini on the side as well. Also tried the burger there - that one was a miss. I wouldn't get it again, but I did love their fries! We definitely want to try the other plates of meat that they butcher!

They offer a happy hour menu, which is something not many winery restaurants do, and that's one of the things I like about this place. The restaurant has a fantastic view overlooking the lake and the winery, with a sophisticated ambiance and a super-nice patio. My partner ordered the fish tacos from the happy hour menu. I chose the smoked Lambwich, which featured smoked lamb shoulder, Kentucky BBQ dipping sauce, pickled pepperoncini, lettuce, and mayo on a soft, delicious bun. The fish tacos were made with salmon, lettuce, peluvian dressing and topped with tempura bits. Using salmon for tacos was unique, and it was very flavorful and tasted great. The Lambwich featured pulled lamb and plenty of spicy pickles. The sauce was quite thick, and the side of fries was a bit too salty. To pair with wine, I would have preferred a lighter taste. However, since it's a casual meat sandwich, I think the robust flavor was fitting. We had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which was just great. It had a nice crispness with a lovely fruit flavor, pairing perfectly with our meals. I really loved that wine. Overall, I can't fully judge this restaurant based on the casual dishes we ordered. We'll definitely go back to try other main dishes and appetizers. I'm already looking forward to returning.
