The vibe was very peaceful and then a family with three very loud kids came in...didn't really bother me, but just be prepared that you can't necessarily count on a quiet environment since it seems to get a big crowd coming from the beach/park which of course can include families. My lunch here was great, I had a masala chickpea wrap, a slice of carrot cake, and a turmeric latte. I especially enjoyed the carrot cake, it had big pieces of dried fruit which was delicious and gave it great texture. Their turmeric latte was spicy and comes unsweetened, but not bitter. The baristas were mostly nice but seemed a little disorganized, although I think one of them might have been in training. I confirmed that everything was "for here" 3 times and they still gave me my sandwich in a to-go box which is my pet peeve. Overall, though, I really liked the place. I just was at Deep Cove this once for a little day trip so this was probably a one-off visit, but if I lived nearby, it's the kind of place I'd want to come back to.

Coffee shop at the SE end of Dollarton Village strip mall…read more Parking is plentiful in the tilted lot in front of the buildings. This location doesn't have outdoor seating. Staff were friendly and somewhat helpful. The place charges extra for takeout cups, so I had my ice coffee in a reusable cup. However, the cup was beaten up and had cracks. I was wondering why the table kept getting wet (thought it was condensation), and didn't realize it until 1/4 of the cup had leaked out. When I brought it to their attention, they gave me an empty cup to pour the coffee into, but didn't offer to make me another one, which would've been nice. Knock 1 star off. As with other locations, the coffee tastes fine, but the price is a bit high compared to the competition.

Cup fee alert: it is embedded in the price though the receipt showed the breakdown…read more I really disagree with the cup fee as I find it is not doing much to reduce waste if shops still use disposable cup even for dining in. I ordered the iced tea and I was not told there would be a cup fee. I was dining in, I could use a regular glass. Instead I was charged the cup fee and given a plastic to go cup instead. And I did say it was for here. I only found out after I paid and actually requested for the receipt. If I did not ask for receipt, I would be none the wiser. And when did North Van have this cup fee bylaw? How is that saving the environment or reducing plastic waste? That aside, the place is nice. Clean and spacious with tables along the windows. The AC was strong and wonderful on a hot summer day. The drinks and food are the same as other JJ Beans around town. There is nothing much in this strip mall, so I think this place mostly caters to the locals living and working in the area. A good place for coffee if you want to avoid the crowded Deep Cove area as it is as busy here.

Oh dear oh dear. Someone has been SOooo busy he forgot to eat and he let Mr HYDE take over for him…read moreat the counter. You are the face of the business and if you cannot be nice with people you should really let your young lady helper do it. Don't be such a control freak, really. She can handle the sales and might save you from making such a bad impression as you certainly did with both the woman in front of me and myself. Waiting in line, I watched in humour and amazement as he overcharged a young woman nearly 8 dollars for 2 iced coffees with an excuse of "but you asked for decaf... and SOY, and ice..." and then continued to rail on about how only women order Soy, seldom ever men, because it's a fad and no one is really allergic (to dairy).... I mean, it was totally ridiculous how he was behaving. I stood there, my adrenaline on over-drive, both angry but also slightly amused, wondering whether to stay or leave. The young woman then tried to pay with a credit card at which point he showed her his sign of 10 dollar minimum. She tried to tell him she only wanted to iced decaf coffees and wanted to understand why it was more than 8 dollars... He was so extremely aggressive with his energy, really, off the testosterone chart! She just surrendered and dug around for change in her purse and paid cash. I decided to amuse myself and see how it would go for me. I ordered my 2 beverages, one with Soy (-oh the humanity!) and I also explained that I have a dairy allergy and get very sick if I consume either dairy or gluten. I watched him process this while grappling with some kind of inner demon. I'm pretty sure he could tell I had his number, I'm no kid. And I'm also pretty sure he already knew his behaviour was over the top aggressive. When the drinks were made, and payment was processed he turned to the young lady his employee and said loud enough for me to hear "I really need to eat something" Yeah? NO --- REALLY?! You THINK? Oh, the coffee? It was 'meh'

Review #13/30 After…read morea tiring session of kayaking at Deep Cove, we stopped by at the Turtle coffeehouse for a quick snack. I ordered a slice of pizza, a latte, and a chicken samosa which the owner/cashier promised to be excellent. He even said he wouldn't charge anything if I dislike it. For the record, when someone says this, 95% of the time, the food usually sucks. Well, let's see. The latte was mostly foam and the pizza looked like the ones from Granville Street. The samosa was definitely a big FAIL--lukewarm on the inside with very little chicken and very doughy and dry on the outside. Overall, it didn't taste fresh. I don't even want to guess how long the samosas were sitting in the display case. Worst samosa ever! Expect some wait if it's a bit crowded because there was pretty much one person manning the entire cafe--and that was on a weekend. The items here were cheaper that most of the shops on the street but let's just say I would pay a little more to dine elsewhere.
