    Chicken Shish Sandwich
    Scott J.

I came in to get takeout lunch to picnic at a nearby park with my dogs. Unfortunately the sandwich was dry and underwhelming. I called to say I think they forgot to include sauce and they said come by and get some and that it doesn't normally come with sauce. After driving 10 minutes out of the way the manager reminded me the sandwich was made correctly and not only never apologized but acted as if he was giving me sauce for free, which he mentioned he doesn't normally do. This was a sandwich consisting of just bread, chicken, lettuce, and tomato. This was exceptionally bland and difficult to eat. I've been to Turkey and sampled so many delicious mezes and sandwiches. This was just a bizarre experience to be given such an incomplete lunch, as if it were a partially assembled meal kit. I can understand tho sometimes mistakes happen, but even worse than this sandwich was that they saw no problem with it and only very defensively and reluctantly sought to rectify the situation.

    Beautifully updated and comfy ambiance

Haven't been in some time and just went and was incredibly satisfied. First off, they updated their look and it is so modern, sleek and clean looking!! Staff is as friendly as always and food-made with pride and attention and you taste it in every bite! We started off with the mixed cold appetizers which consisted of hummus, babagannoush, haydari (yogurt mixed with dill, garlic, walnuts and oil), patlican (cold salad of cubed egg, peppers, garlic and an incredible tasty tomato sauce), antep ezme (cold salad of tomatoes, hot peppers and bell peppers, parsley, garlic, walnuts), havuc tarator (carrot salad dip)-all delicious! And their bread, moist yet crispy but so good! Main courses consisted of Chicken Shish, marinated chicken grilled as kabobs served with 2 types of rice-husband LOVED it and this type of food is really not his jam but he was in heaven. I had the yogurtlu kebab with lamb adana-fabulous! So much food in both platters that we had leftovers for another meal and so healthy but yet so decadent! Dessert consisted of their rice pudding which is a homerun and revani which worked together fabulously as it took some sweetness away from the revani. Cannot wait to go back-everything on their menu looks delicious and would love to go with a great big party so that everything can be tried and devoured. If you are in the neighborhood, try them-you will not be disappointed and this food travels exceptionally well so great option for take out!

Delicious Mixed Cold Appetizers with warm bread and butter. The carrot salad was amazing!

I would give Turkish Kebab House 10 stars. Please go here right away! The owners are a lovely family - Selim and Hatice and their lovely daughter Dephne. They're very welcoming and always making sure you're happy and enjoying yourself. The bathrooms are amazing clean and really fancy with bidets. The restaurant has a large outdoor patio and inside it's huge and clean. The cold mixed appetizers were great! They had a carrot salad which was something I never had even in Turkey, and it was delicious. The Adana kebab was so good. It came with rice and bulgar, a large salad, and bread. For dessert, I had a Turkish cookie and tea. They have lots of parking outside in a private lot. This is the perfect place to relax and to treat yourself to a wonderful meal. Highly recommend!

Great authentic Turkish cuisine with attentive and professional staff. The coffee was amazing! The one improvement that I would like to see is more Turkish decorations.

Born and raised in Eptahori, Greece, Tzepos immigrated to Connecticut in the 1950s with his family. He opened his namesake pizzeria in downtown Seymour in 1970. The name "Zois" is the Greek male equivalent of the female given name "Zoey", but it is also the Greek word for "life". Zois Pizza became well-known for their Greek-style pizza which is cooked in pans. Tzepos' brother Nick also operated pizzerias throughout Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley. The last pizzeria he ran before his retirement was Oxford Pizza Palace, which is currently operated by his son John. Zois Pizza is and has always been a family-run establishment. Zois' son Jim Tzepos has been running the day to day operations since the early 2000s, but Zois still pops in from time to time to make some pies. In addition to the signature Greek-style pan pies, the menu also consists of salads, appetizers, grinders, trays and calzones. I recently stopped in for dinner at Zois Pizza for the first time. I often go to downtown Seymour to see cult film screenings at the Strand Theater. I usually stop at an area restaurant beforehand to grab dinner, so I decided to try out Zois' on my most recent outing. I looked over the menu and decided to order three small pies so I could sample a few different kinds. The three that I ordered were the "Greek" (cheese pizza topped w/ fresh tomato, spinach, feta, garlic & oregano), the "Greek Godfather" (cheese pizza topped w/ sausage & roasted red peppers), and the "Roula Special" (cheese pizza topped w/ chicken, bacon, broccoli & garlic). Although I'm partial to New Haven-style apizza, these Greek-style pan pies were very good. They were full of flavor and had a nice and light, airy crust. At one point, my server checked on me and asked which of the three were my favorite. I told her that I enjoyed all three, but it was the Roula Special that really hit the spot. She responded, "OMG! That's my pizza! I'm Roula!" It turns out that she was Roula Tzepos: Zois' granddaughter! To drink, I enjoyed some cans of New England Brewing's "Fuzzy Baby Ducks" and "Sea Hag" IPAs. Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience at Zois'. I even had some leftovers to bring home for my family to try. If you're looking for a good place to grab dinner in downtown Seymour, then head to Zois'!

It was founded by the Koutroumanis family, which includes brothers George, Tony and Greg. The family immigrated to the United States from Greece in 1958. Almost immediately after getting settled, the various members of the family began working in the restaurant business in some sort of capacity. By the late 1960s, the Koutroumanis family had opened West Haven Pizza Palace in West Haven and Broadway Pizza in New Haven. Following the success of the family's pizzerias, they opened Yorkside Pizza & Restaurant on York Street, just around the corner from Broadway Pizza. Yorkside's signature Greek-style pan pizzas quickly became popular with Yale University students as well as patrons from the neighboring performance venue Toad's Place. A number of celebrities have also visited the pizzeria over the years, including late night TV host Stephen Colbert in 2023. Aside from the signature pizzas, the menu also includes seafood dishes, pasta dishes, steakhouse entrees, classic Greek & Italian staples, sandwiches, salads, soups, and various appetizers. While the Koutroumanis' other pizzerias eventually closed, Yorkside is still going strong. Today the establishment is run by George, his wife Nota, and their family. I recently stopped at Yorkside Pizza for dinner prior to attending a show at Toad's Place. Although I have lived in the area my whole life, and I've walked by Yorkside more times than I can count, this was actually my first visit. While I am partial to New Haven-style apizza, Greek-style pizza has been growing on me recently. My server seated me at a booth and I begin to scroll through the extensive menu. I ended up ordering two smalls: a "Four Cheese Pizza" (mozzarella, feta, ricotta & provolone cheese) and a "Mediterranean" (mozzarella, crab, clams, anchovies & tuna). Yorkside's pizzas are made from scratch everyday, and you can tell. These pies had so much flavor and the crust was light, crispy and flaky. I washed everything down with a can of New England Brewing's "Sea Hag" IPA. I ended up taking half of the pies home for my family to sample. If you're planning on attending a show at Toad's Place, I highly recommend stopping at Yorkside either before or after the show!
