TurF is the kind of place I could see myself spending hours in day after day, if I lived in Kitsilano. An amazing cafe with lots of delicious, healthy and plant-based food, a fitness studio, and a boutique all rolled into one! Plus it's beautiful inside. What an absolutely brilliant concept to have this kind of one-stop shop in Kits! We were in town a few months ago for my hubby's bday week, and after a fun bike ride from downtown to Kitsilano through Stanley Park, we popped into TurF and had an awesome post-ride lunch. We wanted to try so many items off the menu, but here's what we got (and loved) that day: * Raspberry Peach Coconut Muffin * Mushroom Ricotta Toast * The Works (Smoothie Bowl) * Matcha Latte Everything was so delish, and we even went back for another muffin to take with us. My husband and I are vegan athletes and personal trainers so we truly appreciated that this cafe/bistro is mainly plant-based and has so many vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. After refueling our bodies for the rest of our bike ride, we checked out their boutique and I specifically knew that I wanted to try on Left of Friday swimwear (the only store that carries the brand in Vancouver). Great food, drinks, and a new bikini, I'd say our bellies were full (and happy), my wallet a little lighter (spent way too much $ there), but we'll definitely be back for more! read more

Spirulina latte they dub the mermaid latte. Was pretty busy with open seating and a little apparel shop section at the back. Server was helpful and very attentive about my hemp allergy while I ordered my beverage. Mermaid latte would rate a 6/10, wasn't the flavour for me even though I typically love spirulina anything. I really enjoyed what I got at Turf today! Turf has a really fun concept where they're a cafe and a workout studio into one. I also love that they have tons of outdoor seating. They have alot of healthy selections to dine in or grab n go. Today, I got their strawberry matcha cloud smoothie. It was a coconut, strawberry, kale matcha smoothie that was really refreshing on a hot day, I enjoyed the strawberry cold foam. The staff are always in a good mood and willing to help. Has a very high end, hipster vibe. It was quite loud on the inside because of the connected studio. I was able to get my food very quickly and the staff was very nice when I asked what scone she recommends. I really enjoyed my scone and chai latte - they both had great flavour. The only thing that I have to complain about is I wish they served the hot chai latte in a mug. It was hard to pick it up since it was hot and filled to the brim. I LOVE TURF. As a vegetarian, I approve of this place wholeheartedly. The spicy baked tofu is the ideal tofu texture. The avocado toast on a japanese sweet potato is so simple yet lovely (just don't get the egg it is never cooked enough so that's kinda gross). The greens all day bowl is so nourishing and the sauce is delicious. The bakery items (everyday cookie, pumpkin chocolate chip muffin, and chocolate zucchini loaf) are wonderful. The ambiance is so bustling and open but also intimate. Also, this is so random but they have really delicious water and I love how you can refill it yourself by the kitchen area. Really good vegan breakfast, baked goods, and to-go options. We stopped in for breakfast around 9:30am on a Saturday. You order up at the bar and they bring out your food. Prices are rather expensive -- the scramble I got was $19 plus tax. But it was tasty, fresh and reasonably healthy. It can get loud when there's an exercise class in session, as it was when I visited. We also got a vegan burger wrap ($10) to go, which was really nice. All in all, great place for vegan breakfast and to-go items in Kits. Recommended. read more

Really cool place for vegan and vegetarian eats! My friend and I went to experience the cafe, but they also have an attached fitness studio and a small activewear/merch shop. I had the Ginger Tempeh Salad, a Caramel Cashew Date Bar, and a Vancouver Fog. This was some of the best tempeh I've ever had: the texture was perfectly tender, and it was bursting with flavour. It wasn't spicy hot, but there was a little bit of a zing there that I really liked. Fresh vegetables. They were generous with both the serving of tempeh and the amount of salad. The caramel bar was also amazing - think peanut butter chocolate square combined with salted caramel. I loved the melt-in-your-mouth feel of the cashew butter and chocolate ganache layers combined with the oat crust. Finally, the Vancouver Fog was also a treat. This was a nice warming drink! If you like chai but want something without caffeine or just something a little different, this would be a great choice. I took it with their walnut milk which had a very pleasant consistency. It was very rich but since the drink was on the smaller side (probably about 8 oz) it wasn't too much, and I liked the foaminess of the froth. I like that their food is almost entirely vegan with a few choice ("cared for") animal proteins. The menu has a nice variety for brunch or any light meal and offers the standard plant-based brunch fare along with some more unexpected items. I'm also really interested in unconventional hot drinks (stuff besides your basic coffee/espresso/tea selection) and will be sure to try more drinks from their "Hot & Steamy" menu section if and when I come back. Prices are basically what you'd expect for this sort of place: a little high and not an everyday thing in my budget, but not wallet-destroying and totally worth it now and then. All the staff are super nice, and they seem to work hard to create a welcoming environment. I was a little intimidated by the health club aspect of the place, but I didn't need to be worried - the atmosphere was very relaxed and non-judgemental. I'm also very thankful to them for finding my phone charger when I left it there and holding onto it for me to pick up the next day! read more

From the start, to the finish, this place was incredible. Vegan restaurants are stepping up their games so much, that even meat eaters can enjoy a meal! Location is prime. In the hub of 4th ave., the joint consists of a cafe, shop, and studio. The place is huge with nice bathrooms, hell yourself drink area, and a walk up ordering area. I ordered a side Plant Power side salad and it was super flavourful and packed full of nutrient dense veggies. On top of that, I ordered the special of the day; the zoodle pad Thai. Holy Moses it was freaking amazing. Authentic and tons of good vegetables, used in a way to perfectly mimic noodles and that fried food taste. To top it off, I got the RAW carrot cake. This, by far, made my life. It was dense and the perfect amount of sweetness. It made me tear up. The service was incredible. What a cool place. I really appreciate the approach the owners took for putting this place together; both for the overall multipurpose design and food/drinks. Located west in the Kitsilano area, this pleasantly airy spot is situated in between busy W 4th Ave. Color palette is very simple using dark black and white tones yet has a neat and inviting contrast. I kind of sense a smooth, rustic contemporary feel when you take in the wood counter tops and spread out indoor plants. The outdoor seating looks nice with access via the front interior and all spaces mesh around the inside studio space vertically offset from the dining room. Access via mass transit is pretty good via the bus from the SkyTrain. Overwhelmed by the amount of V and GF offerings, I had to practice some restraint and pick just a few things: Dad's Baked Beans (V, but I'm not sure if the gremolata had anchovy): This hearty dish can satisfy. The beans were amazing in flavor and texture; so smooth. The jam and gremo were interesting and provided a unique new taste profile to me. I'd recommend knife & fork'ing this goodie. Comes w/ side salad. I took a box for snacking on it in my hotel room. Toast side: The bread they use is awesome and great dense texture; may be slightly too tough in the crust. Walnut milk Chai: I was pretty excited to try their chai with both the homemade almond and walnut milk blends (not sure if "blend" implies added stuff). Alas, I tried the lesser traveled road with the walnut. It was quite nice at the start! Good subtle spices working. Although, I think I missed out a bit rushing to catch my train and took the chai tea bag out too soon (remember to suck/squeeze the tea bag to get the left overs). If I'd let it simmer longer while just chilling out, I'm sure it would've been less bland. It also only comes in 16 oz so that volume may affect steep time. I only wish I'd come here at least 1-2 hours before my train departure. The food offerings here sort of resemble the Okinawan diet (majority plant-based foods, small tiny fraction animal stuff) with the focus being similar cafe fair like toasts, small plates, coffee & smoothies, etc. I left with more to be desired... :/ Recommend! read more

I love the inclusivity in their menu! Many vegan and gluten free options, but ALSO meat & protein side options for those who want it. It's a great place for anyone who has diet restrictions or prefer something healthier in their diet. They also have a deli area for people who want to pick up something quick. It's also cool because they have a studio attached where classes go on all the time (there's a shower with towels and hairdryers in the bathroom!) and also a merch store. This place has a lot going on. I ordered an oatmeal bowl, which comes with berry compote, chia pudding, fruit and almond butter. It was really yummy - I do wish it was a bit sweeter, but that's just personal preference. I also ordered a mushroom broth from their daily menu... Just healthy tasting, bland/slightly bitter mushroom liquid. It was okay, just not what I expected. I'm used to soups like this but I imagine many people would be dissatisfied. I tried my friends mushroom ricotta toast and that was really yummy, the mushrooms were seasoned and cooked well (but unfortunately they were lukewarm). However, it came with a salad with no dressing and tasted like grass. Some of the menu items didn't satisfy my taste buds, and ultimately I don't know if it's because it's healthy or if the chefs are just not that great. But some of the menu items are pretty good. All in all, judging this place as a whole and what it offers - it's pretty great. But I'd love to come back and try more items to have a better assessment. read more

I love the entire concept of Turf. A coffee shop to hang out, a cafe for delicious healthy treats, and a studio to work out. I've come to Turf numerous times for all the reasons above. A couple of reasons why I love Turf: 1) The menu. There's not a lot going on option-wise, but the options they do have are great. They have an assortment of toasts, bowls, salads, and smoothies. I've gotten a few things from their menu that I love and keep coming back for: avocado toast, granola bowl, and kale caesar just to name a few. 2) Their fitness studio. I've only tried their yoga sculpt class, but damn did it leave me feeling sore for a few days. It was also great to order a smoothie before class and have it ready for me post-class. 3) They have a little market with other fresh food. I've personally never gotten anything from here because I love their regular menu more, but they do have some great selections. 4) They serve wine! The last 2 times I've come here I've ordered a few glasses of wine after I've been done working for the day. Turf is a great place to grab a bite, work out, or hang out and get some work done. When I arrived there were 4 staff behind the counter, only one was clearly working on preparing an order. There was no line up and I was the only person waiting and yet they took over 5 minutes to acknowledge me. They were chatting. I ordered a golden immunity smoothie. it took over 15 minutes to receive. After I ordered they were not working on preparing my order, simply chatting again so I felt annoyed. One staff was clearly training. They brought out a smoothie for someone else and when the customer questioned if that was really hers they apologized for not making what she ordered. Then they apologized to me for making me the wrong drink to explain the wait. Then I saw them remake my drink but I was not impressed as the staff member was playing with my drink! I was then presented with a smoothie that was so thick I could turn upside down in the sippy cup and nothing spilled. It looked horrible, sorry no photos. I asked them to remake it, which they did very reluctantly. Still turned out like one ice block and did not look any better. I had to wait for it to melt while stirring . took too much time. When I could finally drink it, it was filled with inedible bits of fiber that was not blended and could not swallow. Spit out many mouthfuls! I did not want to go back to them yet again. The fitness studio had a class running... the noise from the music and the pounding from the people jumping was deafening. The whole space was shaking but not in a good way. The only place remotely possible to sit was outside to get away from the torturous sounds and shaking. Don't get me wrong, I like music but not at the volume where my ears feel assaulted. The smoothies are overpriced to begin with for the quantity and given how disgusting it was - not good value. read more

Having a bff who has a lot of food sensitivities I'm always looking for places that have vegan & gluten free options that are actually tasty. I've been yearning to eat at Turf because their food not only read beautifully but they are also presented attractively. I must say....Turf has that wow factor! They prove that vegan and gluten-free doesn't have to be boring, cold, and one dimensional. We were super impressed how much care and thought went in to each component of each dish. Everything is seasoned and flavored well to highlight the natural characteristic of the ingredient and bring out the best notes. I'm a huge sauce-head and every dish came with the most flavorful sauces and condiments that complimented the star ingredient best! I really like the idea and the energy. However, I was there in the morning with my son to try something yummy. However, the bass (music from the work out room - also a super idea!) was way too much for my son. Given he is neurodiversity, we had to leave. He said, 'Dad, the music is hammering on my forehead. Can we please go?'. So we left... I wouldn't say the "ricotta" tasted like dairy ricotta but more of a cream cheese. It came with a lovely side salad. My friend and I also enjoyed almond milk latte's... wow! These tasted amazing. I wanna know how they get the almond milk so frothy. There were tons of other delicious options that I'd love to try. Price point was pretty similar to other vegan establishments. I walked past this place several times. I've eyed the studio where yogis were in shavasana getting a head massage and I knew that I needed to check this out. Erin Ireland wasn't lying when she said that this was a good place to check out. Vegan / Vegetarian friendly food, non-pretentious staff, decent prices, a good atmosphere. My mom and I enjoyed our lunch which included a kale caesar salad, the zucchini pasta, and rainbow fries. It all was tasty! I love the idea of the space. Great vibes. This review would at LEAST be 4 stars for mostly great food (I especially like their Bowl of Noodies-squash pasta with lentil cashew pesto, very delish) except for a couple things which really put a damper on the experience... 1st: the price of their Kale Cesar salad is ridiculously high for the tiny size! I was expecting the full size that costs $12 to not be side salad size, but alas, it is. Shocked as great sit down restaurants are the same price, (much!) larger and dare I say tastier? (Thank you Acorn and Meet on Main/ Meet in Gastown) 2nd: I tried to eat there and unlucky for me there was a loud fitness class going on at that time, right beside the dining area with the instructor literally screaming into the microphone... so uncomfortable! If you're at turf for a yoga class you can stop by the turf cafe. It's a bit Overpriced. Ok we're in Vancouver but a bag of brownies 10$ Mmm not sure. They were good but not sure if they are worth 10. They do have salads and smoothies, and they have avocado and chia puddings. They have smoothies made out of pepper, avocado and apple.i didn't try the smoothies but I saw them preparing them and it's with real fruits and vegetables. Food here is tasty and fresh. Sad that the ginger tempeh salad is gone but it occasionally pops up in the grab and go section. Weekly specials have been pretty decent so far. I enjoyed the peanut noodle salad and butternut squash zoodles. The new pad thai is tasty as well. Their sweet potato fries with the chipotle aioli is a must try. Banana bread french toast is also good if you're feeling something sweet. Desserts have been just okay so far. Hazelnut cookie, chocolate zucchini loaf, marble bundt cake were alright but I wouldn't get again. If you really want dessert I'd say the peanut butter cookie and everyday cookie are the better options. read more

The pros: - Gluten free, vegan, vegetarian... you name it. - My meal was pretty good and filling: generous portion of mushrooms on top of two big (supposedly roasted) sweet potato slices with cashew ricotta cheese. - There's a small but sunny deck. The cons: - Except for the kombucha that they don't produce themselves, nothing seems to be organic, not even the teas nor their homemade milk, which is pretty disappointing for a business whose punchline is "good food makes us feel alive". Pesticides are chemicals used to kill insects and other living things and are recognized as a global threat to humans and the environment. There's nothing healthy about it. - The *veryyyy tiny* side salad brought with my dish was just ridiculous and looked really sad. - Some items are pretty pricey and not worth it. My friend had the $6 bison balls and only got 2 small ones that didn't have any particular flavor. - Despite their effort, very little light gets into the place, so you better go on the deck. Going back? Unsure. I'd like to say yes, but even though flavor and concept matter, I believe that quality of produce should get the upper hand, specially in a business like this one. read more

TurF offers a variety of delicious vegan snacks and meals (and meat and dairy for everyone else). I have had lunch here recently and both times I ordered a version of their 'toast' meal. The carrot lox and cream 'cheese' is really artfully deceptive - it looks just like salmon and cream cheese and the flavours and textures are reminiscent of the original dish. It was very good. The special today, tho, was really outstanding: 5/5 for the portobello mushroom toast daily special with cashew ricotta, pea greens, caponata and nut crumb! Oh so good - I wish they would make this a regular menu option! You order at the counter and take a seat and the food is delivered to your table. The service is good, but it's a little slow for this genre of restaurant. Prices are in the wheel house for the portion size and quality. There is plenty of seating for everyone, indoors and outdoors, too. If this restaurant were walking distance for me, I think I would be a regular. However, I will definitely get in my car again in the near future for some yummy meals and snacks here. read more

Food? Baked goods? I'm in, but as for a super sweat class? I think I'll pass on that one. That would be a HARD pass. So as for the food it is pretty vegetarian, but not fully vegan/plant-based. They have some eggs and the occasional "wild salmon" or "pork sausage" on their menu. I'd say the vast majority is vegan friendly though. Give or take 90%. TurF is really quite nice from what it was before! The space was previously a restaurant called Hell's Kitchen a few years back, but closed down for reasons unknown. They really revamped the place and the atmosphere totally changed. Funny what you can do with a coat of paint and some decor. That seemed to attract tons of people just chilling with their laptops doing work. The music choices were also A1 in my opinion... some bumpin' lame ass pop music! Thats my kinda jammm. TurF is one of those, semi serve yourself kinda place. You order at the counter pay for your food and get a number. Instead of a number, you get this little marker with animals on it. We got the zebra if you couldn't tell. Pretty cute. I'm into it. I ended up ordering the Warm Mushrooms + Spinach Salad. It was pretty decent. I think the one thing that annoys me most about eating at restaurants is when I eat it, I think... "I could probably make this at home, so why the hell am I paying a premium for it?!?". Don't get me wrong it was pretty good, it had really good balance between the salt and the level of acid, but it was pretty simple. Just sautéed mushrooms, spinach, lentils and some pickled onions. Now what redeemed my experience at TurF was their baked goods, they were BOMB af. The banana bread was so moist, grated I think this was Erin Ireland's/To Die For banana bread, that lady is a god, she really knows how to bake. The energy ball was pretty good too, I'm not a huge fan of protein balls in general, but I had a bite and didn't hate it. Overall, it wasn't bad. I'd probably go back to grab a coffee and pastry. I came twice this past week Mon-Tuesday and bought 4x ginger tempeh salads minutes before 5pm. I called both times to make sure of their hours. Today, I checked online to make sure they were open until 5. When I arrived 4:32 the door was open however it was empty... no staff... everything covered. I waited for about 2 min then Chelsea walk out. I then confirmed the hours and she told me that Turf has been closing at 4:00 pm for 2 weeks now due to Covid. I then explained that I had came in twice right before closing ( 5pm). She then told me...I work everyday and we close at 4:00. Basically calling me a liar. I then said, that's simply not true, would you like to see my bank statements and the time stamp in which I bought the salads? I have them in my phone. Then her story slightly changed to sometimes we decide to close early.... I really don't like confrontation, however... her attitude was horrible...and I explained I understand closing early, I just don't like being lied too.... I spend lots of money in this store, my family is obsessed with the salads and 4 salads for take out is roughly $52 and we stop to grab them 1-2 weekly. With Covid 19, we are trying to shop locally and give the businesses we love our support. I guess Turf is doing so well, they don't need mine.????? read more
