Great place to pop in for a coffee & avo toast We had the ricotta & jam as well as the avocado toast Both were very good and my Americano was perfect & my wife really enjoyed her latte Plenty of tables available even tho there was a line up at the door I'd definitely make my way back there anytime I'm in the area for another great coffee

Barley bowl with turkey and avocado
Rosalyn L.

Ordered a barley bowl to go and added turkey and avocado for lunch during work. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this was! The pickled onions and carrots were a great addition, and everything in the bowl really added to the flavour. I especially loved the roasted broccoli and the sweet potatoes. Very filling and a perfect meal for a busy work day. Would definitely get this again!

I always have to come here when I'm visiting Vancouver! This little cafe is the cutest and there's lot of tables available! They don't have wifi available so plan accordingly if you're trying to squeeze some work in! The breakfast sandwich and fresh squeezed orange juice is my go to but honestly anything you order will be delicious! They made all their pastries and bread in house! The entire menu is crafted beautifully with the best ingredients.

Beautiful Pasteries

Phenomenal. This gas town little shop bakes their own bread. Their coffee drinks are fantastic and their food items are amazingly fresh and healthy. Try the avocado toast with poached egg served on house made sour dough or go for the miso barley bowl. A plus. Would return in a heart beat.

macchiato, with good latte art

We had stopped by because my partner had wanted to pick up specific brand of coffee beans. When he bought the bag, they gave us a free drink, which was unexpected but appreciated. I ordered a macchiato. It was a little bit too sour for my liking to be honest and I was not impressed. They have free wifi, but at least where we were sitting (by the fridge), the signal strength was pretty poor.

Eggs Benny
Armita P.

A cute cafe perfect for catching up with friends or doing some work. Their iced coffee was amazing but the eggs Benny was a bit underwhelming.

Menu

One of the best restaurants I've tried in Vancouver. Every dish was spot on, loved the salad which had plenty of avocado for the additional $3 and the miso barley bowl was so good. Tried a vegan ginger snap cookie that was masterful and the frozen apperol spritz was delicious! Would come here over and over again!

Highs: Cute decor Open window seat Tasty food Lows: Coffee was just ok (I just ordered a drip coffee with my breakfast) Some weird quirks such as the containers for milk/cream were a style that made it really hard to close without putting your fingers all over the lid which was kinda gross. No garbage can for customers except in the bathroom. Definitely an unfriendly vibe coming from one of the people behind the counter - maybe she was just having a bad day? I think she was the manager and the other staff seemed afraid of her :-(. Still, the food was good and made the stop worthwhile.

Great coffee - we bought a bag to take home. Great sandwiches! Filled us up after a long day of touristing. I recommend the tofu bahn mi, you'd forget it's missing meat.

avocado with poached egg on bread.

This is a very quaint place. It has two entrances: one on Powell St and one on Alexander St. The main counter is by the Powell St entrance. The options for food is limited if it didn't have a few breakfast items. I got the avocado with poached egg on toast. A nice little item to start the day. There is a good amount of avocado and the poached egg was done perfectly. The sandwiches look good too. Previously had the pork sandwich. You can tell they try to serve the best and the ingredients are fresh. They have some baked items too but I haven't tried those yet. I'll try some the next time I am here. The atmosphere is relaxed as there is some music in the background, people are sitting with their books, laptop and/or chatting up with their friends. if you're in the neighborhood, I recommend coming in and grabbing a light meal and drink.

Granola w fruit spread and yogurt

Sunday brunch. Date ordered poached egg and avo toast ($6) w black tea ($3). I ordered the granola and yogurt ($5) w americano misto ($4). Both were pretty great in their simplicity. The beverages were also pretty solid. They call your name when the order is ready. Remember to collect utensils and napkins before headed back to the table. It's a self-serving place mostly. Seating: plenty of space and great lighting makes it very comfortable when the sun is coming in. Noise level: low as most people are there studying, talking softly, and just being pretty chill overall. Decor: minimalistic slash industrial w exposed brick, natural wood tones, miscellaneous potted plants, and white washed walls.

Miso barley bowl w ramen soft egg + black tea misto w almond milk

Giving this place a 3.5 Love this little spot in Gastown! Came here on a rainy mid-week morning, it was warm and cosy with lots of places to sit. I had the miso barley bowl with a ramen egg, it was delicious and savoury, not to mention healthy! I was told by the girl behind the counter it was "a cult classic". My friend got the breakfast sandwich - which to be honest looked a bit dry. I don't drink coffee so I had the black tea misto with almond milk, it was good except they didn't leave the tea bag in. Only giving it a 3.5 because there were a few little things that I didn't prefer: 1) they don't have menus so you have to read the chalk boards behind the counter 2) no table service for the food - the cafe is a long rectangle shape so you end up going to your seat back and forth to the counter to get your food 3) it's cosy but also a bit pokey with the lay out, as they have a small bakery section where they make their own sourdough and small baked goods, I was there when it was quiet and there were already roasting and baking trays stacked real close to the walkway - can only imagine how it would be on a busy weekend 4) the staff were not un-friendly but gave off a bit "too cool" vibe 5) the baked goods at the counter looked a bit old and dry even though they were probably made in house Otherwise, I'd def come again - but probably only on a mid-week morning because I wouldn't enjoy it if it was packed.

If you get tired of your room you can also enjoy sitting outside on a deck or the living room. We really enjoyed relaxing on the couch back in our room in front of the fire place. Morning came a bit too soon. Was hard to get up out of the super comfortable down blankets on the King bed. The breakfast was ready though and included three delicious courses. Service was good, friendly. The restaurant is the same as I recall, clean enough. A little cramped and the seating isnt too comfortable. Its really not a good place to hang out for a long time, but rather sit down, eat, and get out type of place. I had the lavender latte and the Tagine this time. Ive had it before and at least its pretty consistent. Ive tried several other things on their menu in the past too, all pretty solid 4/5. Nothing standout as so amazing to deserve 5 stars, but consistent and tasty. I did have a reservation which they charge $10/person for, purely for donation to a charity and does not contribute to your meal at all, and also nonrefundable. While I find this somewhat annoying, I dont blame them for doing this from a business standpoint. They always have a lineup so there is no shortage of customers for them. There is no reason they need to deal with the headache of a ton of reservations. On the flip side, they honoured my reservation in a very timely fashion and I bypassed the line, so props to them for doing that part right. If you have to park, then you may find street metered parking or use one of the nearby paid lots.
