Tunnel Mountain Resort is an alright little spot. It was $144 a night for a suite for four of us. The suite was alright, it had a little kitchenette complete with stove (tiny... don't think of bringing any turkeys along with you to roast in there), sink, dishwasher and fridge. There was one room downstairs next to the bathroom and a loft with two beds upstairs. The couch also pulled out into a bed (though not the most comfortable). There was a TV and a wood burning fire place in the living room as well. The front desk even called us a few minutes after we checked in to see how our room was.
Hotel staff were friendly and attentive. They get four stars. I also liked that the hotel was doing their best to be green. The cleaning staff only replaced your towels if you left them in the tub and only did a full clean on the third day of your visit if you were staying longer than that. There were also recycling boxes next to the front door.
It's got a swimming pool and hot tub near the office and another hot tub in one of the buildings. I'm not sure what the other hot tub was like, but the one by the office was one of those ones that is part of the pool, just separated by a little wall. It's pretty tiny and more of a warm tub than a hot tub. But still fun to sit in for a while once you get the jets going.
The hotel's got free wifi, though it didn't seem to be working when one of my friends tried to get on it from her smartphone. Couldn't tell you if it was her or the wifi that was tripping things up, I didn't attempt to use it myself.
We had issues with our neighbours, in that we were next to a group of youngins there to party. And the walls are paper thin. I won't go into the particulars, suffice it to say when we called the front desk to complain they sent someone out.. both nights. On that note, I'm not sure where the music came from, they must've brought their own because the suites certainly didn't have any stereo systems.
On our last morning, there was no hot water in the bathroom. Two of us took cold showers, two of us opted for a shower once we got home. To make up for the noisy people next to us (writing about them is making me feel so old!), the hotel did comp us a night. The way they handled it is also part of the reason the staff got a four star earlier.
How could Tunnel Mountain Resort improve itself to an overall four star? More comfortable beds, and short of some renos to put more insulation between the walls, maybe grouping some of the kids together in the same set of suites. Let them be noisy together. Also, on the comment card, the hotel asked what guests would like to see installed in the future. I don't remember the other options, but one was an outdoor hottub. I'd like to reiterate my vote for that again here.
