This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. It was a bit out of the way but with the free transportation around Banff, it was the perfect place to stay. We came in late from our Rocky Mountaineer train ride that day and headed in to relax and go for some dinner. We ate in their beautiful lounge area (some food pictures attached) for a light bite at dinner. I did get an opportunity to stop by the Farmer's Market and took adnatage of the transportation system here. The room was perfect for a two night stay and the staff here was wonderful. It goes without saying that the views out the window were like every where else, spectacular. We were very busy and therefore did not have much time to enjoy the amenities of the hotel. It really was just for sleeping and eating. Overall, they did a great job! Dinner at the lounge, and a wonderful buffet breakfast. ( A few pictures are also attached.) They really take good care of their guests. I was so surprised to read some of the lower star reviews. Are we speaking about the same hotel here? We loved this hotel. It has so much charm and is full of incredible staff who reside on the property. We stayed two evenings and were told they were closing in November 2025 for renovations. Nice pool and work out area as well. Per friendly with an area for your dog to sniff and do their business. Water bowls also available for the pets. The Rocky Mountaineer staff had a separate check in for the train ride. Very nice and accommodating. I would love to go back and see what the renovations are when they get done read more

For our first time visit to Banff, Rimrock lacked the magic it advertises. Only thing luxurious is the views and valet service. Valet was top notch, mostly the men though because the times I talked with the women within my 4 day stay, they'd often ignore me till a guy valet comes and asks if I've been helped. Other employees such as the front desk gave mid service, specifically the man with long hair with a gage earring. He was giving, egotistic vibes and shutting down our questions or concerns. He also wasn't welcoming when we were asking questions after check in. Hot tub and pool seem small for a resort hotel. Beds are uncomfortable. Pillows are "fluffy" but flattens easily when you lay your head down. No integrity in the pillows. Bathroom are not what I would consider luxury or upscale. It was a standard size bathroom with a tub on the small side. Bathroom light is dim, not nice. It's lit by one light over the tub and two small dim lights around the mirror. For the ladies who need good lighting do make up, come prepared. their standard rooms, I'd say not worth it. Its so dark and dingy, room is old with old furniture and a worn out bed. We upgraded our room from the dingy one to the 9th floor with bay windows views of the cascade mountain, 924. Expensive, yes. View, amazing. Worth the money? No. View was the only thing that made it worth the money. This hotel isn't luxurious, the restaurants they have -Primerose and Larkspur are adequate at best. Their money maker is the hotel being on top of a hill so the guests have little options to get food conveniently. Employees at larkspur lounge also gave terrible service. We had ordered a $40CA burger, excited it would be good. We told the employee it was dry but all she did was state that they have to cook the burger to a certain temp then walked away. No suggestions of how she can make the experience better, or ask if she can do anything else since the customer stated they're not happy. With the burger intact other than 2 bites, she comes back and asks if everything was okay and if she can do anything else. Where was this attitude and help when I told you in the beginning of the meal I was unhappy? Decided it wasn't worth the hassle, paid and left. Next time around I'll look at lodging options downtown. For the good chunk of money we spent during our 4 day stay, it wasn't worth it. 5 star prices for 2 star stay. read more

Holy wow. What an absolutely gorgeous place! The views here are stunning. We came in late June, so the weather was perfect and it was a great escape from the 100 degree temperatures in the south. The hotel is an older hotel, but the views are worth it. Also, it's within walking distance to the gondola which I highly recommend. They also have shuttle service into town. The staff is incredible helpful. I also recommend using their shuttle to visit Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. It was a great experience. We had Archie as our driver and he was so fun! If you're looking for luxury and value, this isn't it -- unless you're just throwing money around. I booked this hotel for $320 a night through Booking.com and was shocked at what I got: a musty, outdated room with stained carpet and a broken phone (so I couldn't even call the front desk to report it). The space felt neglected, and honestly, it bummed me out. I ended up paying an extra $150 per night plus tax just to be moved to a room that felt livable. For two nights, I spent $915 plus tax -- typing that number makes my stomach drop. And even in the upgraded room, the bathroom was ridiculously tiny. To be fair, the gym was great, and the pool was lovely... between 10-11 pm when the no-kids rule kicked in. But during the day? Pure chaos -- screaming, balls flying -- and no staff around to enforce any kind of order. Speaking of staff, they were kind and friendly, which I appreciated. Bottom line: if I hadn't pre-paid through Booking.com, I would've left. I really hope the hotel considers offering a partial reimbursement -- especially for the cost of the room upgrade I had to pay to avoid staying in a depressing, subpar space. we stayed here during our first ever trip to Canada particularly coming to Banff the service was so quick the concierge is wonderful they recommend so many wonderful activities for you to do and basically help you to book stuff and set it up the front desk is nice and they always have answers to all your questions there's a pool in the spa on the third floor and that was really nice especially after a day of hiking it's just nice to soak for a while. The rooms were super clean and super nice views the beds were comfortable everything smelled really nice and we felt pampered for the price we paid. there is also bellmans and a valet and buses that will come to pick you up to take you to the town. it felt really nice to be able to just relax remotely rather than be in the hotels in town with all the hustle and bustle. read more

Spa employees are liars. Especially Billy. Cannot be trusted, he is a snake!!!!!! I was at the hotel for a convention with my girlfriend and over 100 of her colleagues ( medical doctors ) I went to the spa to book a massage on Friday night for Saturday morning. I was booked in everything was good until the next morning when I got a call from the supervisor saying I'd requested " special services " and my massage was abruptly cancelled. Such words have never EVER left my mouth. I've had a membership to several spas in Calgary and have used spas around the world without issue. In my opinion Billy who told me he's only worked at the spa for about a week was trying to be a hero and made up a lie about me for some brownie points with his manager. I suggest if you don't want your good name slandered and defamed you don't use this facility, and take your business elsewhere. read more

Beautiful hotel. My room was on the 4th floor, fantastic Mountain View. I appreciate them letting me check in two hours early. The front desk checked in on me for everything to make sure my stay was wonderful, food was good and if I needed anything. It was oddly overly friendly but why would I complain about good customer service :). The only reason I gave her four stars do the oddly out. You almost always have to go to the seventh floor lobby to change over wings (north and south). this was slightly annoying when going to the gym and pool on the third floor which I had to catch from the hallway where the café is. Super funky but this established hotel can't change this-so just be prepared. read more

I haven't been here for about a decade. It's the same as it was back then, and the same since it was opened. They have spent not a dime on this place. Came for brunch to check it out and see if they have improved anything. They screwed up our omelette orders three times, and we just gave up. The food and service were good otherwise. Visited for the Christmas holiday and I wasn't impressed with this hotel or Banff. The customer service here is very hit or miss. The front desk was very welcoming, the divas bar manager, the coffee shop staff, the bartender at the Larkspur Lounge, the Primrose staff, most of the valet staff as well with the exception of a bell desk associate named Eddie. His behavior towards selective guests was appalling for a "luxury" hotel. He showed prejudice towards female guests, was very racist towards brown people (non-Arabs) and had an overall horrible attitude when anyone asked for their car or just a simple suggestion relating to Banff who wasn't of French, Arab or British origin. Overall, I've seen better hospitality and accommodations in some of the smallest historic towns i.e. Pinehurst, North Carolina. Next Christmas I'll be spending my time at a more welcoming luxury hotel. In my opinion, Banff is overrated and for anyone who believes America is so racist, please visit here to experience true racism and anti-Americanism. read more

I wanted to really love this place. Great location just a stones throw from town , great views , SO many amenities. We only stayed three nights and didn't get to explore but there's so much to do just inside the hotel itself. I loved that you can sit at the lobby and look out on the mountain and have servers roaming around if you wanted a cup of tea or a glass of wine. But every time we went back to the room it smelt really strongly of cigarettes. I thought maybe the previous people staying were smoking in there but it persisted, so it had to have been from one of the neighboring rooms. We called downstairs to let them know and their solution was to ask if we wanted someone to come spray air freshener ?? It was 10pm at night, why wouldn't you walk the 25m to the elevator and come check it out? It was so weird. There was also no water in the room which was weird too! There was a water fill up station all the way down by the garage though which was nice I guess. Long walk if you get thirsty lol Also self Parking was so expensive ..not sure why ! I think it was 25$ a day which feels a bit discouraging to park ?? All I'm doing is parking my own car it was so WEIRD. You HAVE to have a car in Banff. room service food sucked too lol but what do you expect from frozen hotel food. I didn't go to any of the restaurants so I hope they're better. Our quiet get away to the Rimrock Resort was the perfect break from hectic, pandemic life. The room was beautiful, overlooking the mountains, gondola and city of Banff. Staff were welcoming, entertaining and followed all COVID-19 protocols. Drinks & played cards in the Divas Cocktail lounge. Outdoor skating. Easy transportation into town so you can park and go. There are not a lot of paths/places to walk directly at the hotel but a little further up the mountain is hiking and walking paths. Will stay again! read more

On the long cold walk from the Banff Gondola rides, we decided to pop in for a late drink in the Rimrock. Their gorgeous (and extensive) lobby bar is called the Larkspur Lounge and spans nearly the entire length of the hotel. The lounge is adorned with numerous comfortable seating areas, that can serve as small group hangouts OR as casual dining. We posted up near the walk-in fireplace (yeah the staff kept walking in with new logs to keep the fire roaring, so you can imagine how big it was) and ordered a round (or 2) of drinks! I went with the Canadian Maple Old Fashioned ($18), described as a 2 oz cocktail; The American classic cocktail with a Canadian Twist, so famous the glass it's served in is named after it. Canadian Limited Edition Rye Whiskey, Bitters & a Drop or Two of Maple Syrup It was a really well-balanced version of an Old Fashioned and the real Maple Syrup paired beautifully with the Rye, standing out on its own while managing to blend in with the drink. Easy drinking, delicious, order me 2 more please and thanks! I'd fly back to Banff just for another one of these, please. read more

The Rimrock Resort hotel in Banff was a beautiful resort with very friendly and accommodating employees. They offer a number of restaurants and also a bar and a spa so you could technically just stay at the hotel and not even leave :). However, if you want they also offer a free shuttle to downtown Banff which is just down the hill. It's terrific for those times you are heading to town for dinner and drinks. The room itself was wonderful with a great bed and bedding, nice and spacious room with a living room area near the large windows, and a beautiful view. We did go to the spa and my husband and I had wonderful massages. The waiting are was a bit small, and they didn't have a woman's larger size robe (one size type of thing leaning toward mediums) so that was difficult especially in a unisex waiting room and I had to ask for the men's robe. It is a great hotel and we would highly recommend it for the amenities, location, and service. Great experience! read more

I was really quite disappointed with my stay here. As someone who grew up in the area I was as always under the impression this was one of "the" luxury hotels in the area. My first room was really quite awful, I have had nicer rooms in motels. Dark, bad smell, a recycling bin in the middle of the bathroom, a horrible view with no light. I did pay for an upgrade, I would have just assumed even the basic rooms here would be nice. This is not the case. The service, especially at the front desk, was quite poor and I often felt that I was seen as a bother, even at check in. I will say the people at the cafe were lovely however. I only are at larkspur, and if you can sit on the balcony you get a wonderful view. The service there was quite good too, but that is just for the restaurant. I left with a strong desire not to return, I'd rather find a boutique hotel in banff itself, or if I want to pay luxury prices again find a place that actually delivers the experience. read more

The service is hit and miss! For the $$$$ value it's a miss. The valet is completely disorganized, staff standing around not helping. Then when they get your keys they just hand them to you!?? They don't open the door or anything, but expect a tip?? They may want to take their staff to the Banff springs on a field trip to see how concierge and valet is run, night and day. One of our waiters in the lounge where we had drinks was completely disconnected and just had a bad attitude. Didn't make our stay welcome, you also need to learn how to make a Moscow mule....if you're charging that much for drinks, know how to make them. The Rimrock is lovely, we stayed there for about a week on our honeymoon. The staff is wonderful, very polite and helpful. Our room had an absolutely gorgeous view (and the room itself is very clean). The breakfast buffet is fantastic. I personally like that The Rimrock is just outside of downtown Banff - gives you some peace and quiet, but then they provide a free shuttle downtown (only takes 5 mins). Staying at this hotel is definitely worth the splurge! My only complaint is that you have to pay for parking. read more

I am going to start this review with the positive parts. The negative part is a bit long winded. The dinner, breakfast, and housekeeping staff were absolutely wonderful and very friendly. The view from our room was amazing. The main part of the hotel is very nice and fancy. I liked that they provide bus tickets to town from the hotel. The negative parts started from the moment we pulled up to check in. We were offered luggage service and declined, we asked if we could use one of the spare carts and take our own luggage. The guy said yes. We got the cart next to our car and started to unload our luggage. A car pulled in behind us during that time. The luggage guy took our luggage off the cart we were using( we only had a couple bags at this point on the cart) and took the cart to the car behind us. I made our reservations for 2 rooms. During check in I was asked if the 2nd rooms guest were here. I said, yes they are waiting outside by the car. The front desk guy said he will get me checked into our room then do the second room. He gives me the keys to our room and says have a nice stay. I said what about the second room? He said that guest needs to come in and check in themselves. He didn't mention that at the beginning. So we stood in line again to get the keys for our second room. The last part is the vent in the bathroom and what looks like mold in the light over the shower (I realize that some people don't think this is a big deal) I think it really goes a long way to vacuum all the accumulated dust on the vents for the room. Hotel staff was exceptional and helped us with minor things like setting up the Wi-Fi, bringing more tea and extra hangers. It is a pet friendly hotel and even though there were dogs near our room we did not hear them barking at all. They had Christmas activities including movies, ice skating and a games room so it helped us entertain our kids during our stay. Primrose had excellent food. read more

The hotel room was nice and the views are amazing. Otherwise it's just a hotel. I did use the gym and had a fabulous massage also. The spa is a bit small for the resort size and really no amenities- but the service was awesome. The food service was poor. Our server was very sweet but our food took way too long (90 minutes for 2 burgers) and mine was prepared incorrectly. I didn't like that you couldn't walk into town (no sidewalks.) although they have free bus passes I enjoy walking. There is a hike down which we did but remember bear spray and bug spray. There were so many mosquitos it was not enjoyable at all to hike down. The bellman Eddin was really helpful and nice. He remembered us each time and gave very personal attention and service. While the room and spa were nice next time I'd stay somewhere closer to town/in town. read more

It's been a wonderful stay so far, upon our arrival the doorman Michael was ready to take our luggage as well as valet our SUV, he was awesome and very good at his job. Oh and btw, valet parking is included when you are in a higher end room. The front counter had everything ready to go and was extremely efficient. My boyfriend happened to work here at the Rimrock many years ago, in town for a conference he connected with one of the managers......Betty set us up in a very beautiful room with a view like I've never seen.......thank you so much Betty. Everything is so clean, the staff are on top of their game, and I also find everyone to be very helpful and polite. I was taken on a tour of the different areas, the cafe, gym, pool and hot tub, spa, and the ballroom/conference space. This place is wonderful. If you have the chance to stay here, please do so. Rimrock resort is our usual accommodations in Banff or when visiting Banff National park. We've stayed here a number of times and each stay is different in service. This stay everything was perfect. Birthday getaway to celebrate. Used Rimrock Royalty points to upgrade to a Premium room with 2 queens and balcony. Welcome gift as RR member and coupons for complementary champagne for celebrating a birthday. Room nicely appointed and nice space for our family. Littles love the pool and us the hot tub. Swim before bedtime and ordered room service for bedtime snack. Breakfast in the Primrose dining room included for adults with our stay. We chose breakfast buffet since it was a wait for a table. Littles were $14 each for buffet. Eggs benny fresh, being a popular buffet item. Made to order omelettes, bacon, 2 types of sausages, pastries, fruit, cereals, smoked salmon, and other items. The best part of or stay was the hotel had a skating rink. We forgot to pack our skates but you can rent skates from the Spa, $10 adults and $5 kids no time limit of use. We had to whole rink to ourselves. If we didn't have to make our way home, we would have stayed another night and skated until the evening and next day. If this review were based only on the location of the Rimrock Resort Hotel - it would be a solid 5+ stars. However, taking everything (location, room, service, food, etc.) into consideration - it slips back to a 4.5 stars. Let's start with the obvious - the location is off the charts. It is just stunning. And, an afternoon meal and drink in the main bar on the balcony is the raw material for legendary travel memories. The stunning view does cause a slight problem - you can't walk through the lobby without getting sidetracked to the 2+ story windows to gaze at the beautiful mountains. I was late for meeting friends on more than one occasion. As for the rooms - well, you're not in the Banff National Park to sit in your room. However, if a room with a view is a big deal for you . . . spend a little extra money and get a premium room. We stayed in a standard room on the eighth floor with a balcony, but it overlooked the frontage road and left much to be desired for sitting on the balcony and having a glass of wine. We opted to spend our time in the main bar or on the large patio outside of the spa. Both are great public space locations with premium views. Speaking of the spa - the gym and pool are just fantastic. We spent a number of late evening hours with our little girl and our friends kids swimming and playing. Yes, it is an indoor pool - but the large windows give you a constant view of the beautiful surroundings. The hotel food is not bad. I mean it - for hotel food, its actually very good. We ate at three of the four hotel restaurants and enjoyed all of our meals. Were they "write home about" great - no, but the service and the general ambience of the hotel more than made up for any deficits in the food preparation. Finally the service - very solid and super friendly. We had, on more than one occasion, a server in the bar and a server in one of the restaurants for a couple of meals. They remembered us, went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and made our evenings very special. All and all - the Rimrock is a must visit, destination hotel. A great hotel that's a 5 minute drive away from downtown Banff and close to the gondola and hot springs. Both of our rooms (we upgraded for the 2nd night) had great views of the mountains. The first room faced north and was on the 2nd highest floor. Since it wasn't very busy we asked the staff for the best room available to us since we paid and reserved through Hotwire. They set us up in the handicap room which offered larger square footage in both the bathroom and room. Upon first glance everything seemed great but on closer inspection the tiny details had been overlooked. The bathroom especially left a lot to be desired: no fan to clear out the steam from showering, very bad job putting up the wallpaper, and two toilet paper rolls that both required a full stretch from anyone under 6 feet. From that first room we saw a row of suites that were right above the spa/pool/gym area and had it's own private patio. Since we were having a visitor stay with us the second night we decided it would be best to upgrade. It only cost us an extra $75 for the upgrade and it was done quite efficiently. South facing, two beds and a large patio made for a more comfortable night. However the bathroom was so small that you had to squeeze between the tub & toilet to close the door. It did have an additional exterior sink/mirror counter if the bathroom was occupied. Also there was half the closet room compared to our first room. We had a great experience from the staff except one time. We went down to the restaurant for breakfast and there were a total of 3 tables occupied. There was no one at the hostess booth so after waiting a few moments we just wandered into the dining area. One server was assisting a table and the other was wiping a table that was clean and already set. We stood there waiting till someone could seat us and the server who was wiping the table looked up and rudely said the sign at the front said to wait to be seated. There were at least 50 empty tables and she asked us to back to the hostess booth. I thought this was ridiculous and said as much directly to her face. As a guest of a high end hotel this type of service is unacceptable. I clearly told her my displeasure while in front of the other dining guests so that they could hear. Even with the bathroom issues and the disgruntled server I would probably stay here again. I will say that I didn't like the fact that every time we wanted to go into Banff we had to drive. It isn't conducive to having more then one drink at dinner or just walking around the town. read more

I made a reservation on Expedia for this hotel. After check-in, the bellhop followed me to my room where the key didn't work. It kept lighting red, so the bellhop used his key, where we entered an occupied room with a man inside, oops! I waited in the hall while the bellhop ran downstairs to get a new room. Upon entering a new room, two housekeeping ladies asked us to wait a minute. The new room was totally fine, just as I remembered and expected. I liked that the room had a fridge, snacks for purchase, and was very clean. After we checked into the room, they call to follow up to ensure satisfactory conditions of the room. You also receive a welcome gift, a chocolate dipped cookie. The hotel has a 24 hour gym, pool with adults only between 10&11pm, business center, cafe and multiple restaurants to choose from. A good 24 hour room service menu as well. The self parking is an additional $22/day. I really like this hotel. Would return! read more

We bid online and lucked out on this place. The location is perfect, great views, a short walk to the gondola, nice trails in the woods that bring you to Fairmount. Really liked the huge gym. We also enjoyed the bar with live music. They had an absolutely awesome mothers day brunch filled with every seafood you could find. read more

My two teenagers and i were in Banff for Thanksgiving weekend (Canada) and saw that the Primrose Room at this hotel was offering a Thanksgiving dinner advertised at $39 so we reserved. The dinner (actually $56 we discovered on arrival) was pressed turkey, on top of mashed potatoes which were gold-green coloured and a tablespoon of dressing, corn meal i think. The best thing about the meal was the gravy. Dessert was a sliver of pumpkin pie (did not qualify as a "course"). My teens ordered off of the a la carte menu and one lucked out with the roast chicken. Everything else was at best mediocre. Apart from the beautiful view, our $200 meal at this restaurant was a total waste of both time and money. read more

I've stayed here at least yearly for over ten years. Today, when we arrived, we spoke with four different staff members (valet, front desk), and all four were top notch interesting fun personable people -- just right for what a person needed. We're in a room that has been recently renovated and all the furnishings look great, as do the walls and the bathroom. I'm about to go enjoy my favourite drink in the world in the Larkspur Lounge, the Raspberry Passion martini, and I'll see if the unfavourable review of the Larkspur is deserved or not. I do agree with other reviewers that paying extra for the gym kinda stinks ... but that's about all that troubles me about this hotel. More anon, I'm sure. read more
