Easily one of the worst restaurants I've been too. Took us 30 minutes to get a BOTTLED BEER and almost an hour to get an appetizer. The waiter was not happy when we asked for the bill because we were tired of waiting. The music was so loud people were cowering under their tables in fear. This is an over exaggeration but people were genuinely covering their ears. The waiters just walk really fast past you so you can't ask them for things like silverware and water. They pretend to talk in to walkie talkies so they seem busy. They also randomly had a woman start playing with fire and the sound kept going in and out like a gas station speaker. This place is quite possibly a social experiment to see how willing people are to put up with an absolutely terrible environment just because it is expensive and "aesthetic". I would rather go sit at a dive bar where my arms get stuck to strange things on the bar top than ever comeback to this degenerate place they call a restaurant. Do not go to this place, call the health department and stay very far away. They also apparently employ street corner workers to seat you at the front of the restaurant. It looks more like a strip club than a place that charges 150 dollars for a Walmart quality steak. I'd sign a petition to get this place shut down if one was created. Please, I am begging you, DO NOT GO. The national guard needs to be mobilized and swiftly remove this place. I cannot stress enough how bad this place is. I have maybe left 2 other reviews in my life. Nothing is that deep or has frustrated me enough to do it in a negative light. Having worked in many restaurants, I usually give a lot of leeway when things go wrong. However, this place cannot and will not stay in business if they do not figure out their wait times. My husband and I ordered 2 bottled beers which took 20 minutes to come out. That's is frustrating, but maybe the bartender was swamped. Then we ordered the elote appetizer... it took 35 minutes for the plate of sliced corn cobs. The place was average busy, but we were the only people seated in a completely empty table section. I understand having an off night, but this was so odd. Finally, we asked for the check as soon as the elote came out because we had a concert to go to and couldn't wait another 35 minutes for food. The server had an attitude when we asked for the check. When things would take long when I was a server, I was at my tables apologizing and letting them know that I am aware of the delay. I know it's not necessarily his fault, but you could at least say "hey guys, the kitchen and bar are a little backed up and I am very sorry about the long wait." Bottom line, don't go here if you want to eat or drink in a timely manner. Also extremely loud with club level volume in a sit down restaurant. read more

This place is located at the top floor of Westgate on the fountain side next to kabuki sushi. I brought my boyfriend here awhile back & I'm not entirely sure if it's reservation only or not but when we walked in the hostess asked us if we had a reservation & seemed hesitant to seat us. (I do know the bar is open seating) The service could have been more attentive, we got our food dropped off and we had to ask for our silverware. The only time the server came after was to drop off our check and we were still eating so I found that a little rude. My boyfriend had to drink my water because we did not get any refills. There were only about 2 other tables around us and the server was standing from afar watching. As a server myself i just felt the service could have been better for the price customers are paying to eat here. Modern in the name is fitting because the food itself was okay, for the price as it is a bit pricey. The ambiance is very nice and romantic, I believe sometimes they have people perform in the restaurant. The highlight dish for me is the crispy roca shrimp which is sushi with the crispy shrimp on top, it's almost like walnut prawns on a California roll drizzled with some sweet sauce and sriracha mayo. I don't think that I would come back to dine here again. There are many other Mexican restaurants with greater flavors and fairer prices. But if there's one dish that stood out for me it is going to be the crispy roca shrimp! (Also don't get the fries, ordered those it's literally a small fried plain fries unseasoned for $10?!) read more

The lack of flavor in any of the food makes it hard to even call this Mexican food. Came here with my husband for our anniversary. There was only 1 other table with customers seated. Staff was standing around doing nothing. Our waitress was okay, but she stood in the line of sight of our table and basically watched us the entire time. We ordered the queso fundido. It had a decent flavor but was extremely thick and lukewarm. The "salsa" served with complimentary chips was just a pico de gallo. Chips were cold. I ordered chile relleno and my husband ordered tacos. Our waitress advised us that the restaurant did not have black beans and the meals would have brown beans instead. When we got our food, my husband's tacos had guacamole on them, which was never mentioned on the menu- my husband doesn't like guacamole. My food was lukewarm. We just got home from a delicious meal! I read previous reviews and wasn't expecting too much. But, our experience was delightful. Our server, Jamila, was on point...very friendly and attentive. We didn't have to wait too long and everything came out exactly as ordered. As soon as we sat down, we were given a basket of chips with pico de gallo. The chips were fresh and hubby loved the pico. We decided to start with the Guacamole appetizer, which came with pork belly bites and chips...interesting. Well, we got it and the guac was so creamy and the pork belly bites were crispy. I couldn't stop eating the bites, while dipping them in the guac, they were so good!!! For our entrees, hubby ordered the Chicken Enchiladas with Mole Sauce. First off, it looked really good. He said the sauce had a sweetness to it, but also had a nice kick. He really enjoyed them...along with a side of Cilantro Rice and Beans...which he also liked. I got the Cowboy Lamb Chops with a side of Herb-Infused Sweet Potato Fries. Okay, the lamb chops came out and looked amazing! There were 5 baby chops, so tender and seasoned perfectly. It came with a side of their Butter Wine Sauce, which I didn't need for the chops. I ended up dipping my sweet potato fries in it, which turned out wonderful. The fries were crispy (probably the best sweet potato fries I've ever had) and tasty. All in all, we had a fantastic meal! Ladies, as a side note, when visiting, you need to check out their gorgeous restroom. I was describing it to my hubby and he was actually jealous...LOL! read more

We went Tulum with for a family outing while walking through Westgate. We saw Modern Mexican food and it immediately resonated with the group. Walking through the door speaks volumes. This place really lacks identity. The decor and vibe feels more Rum Jungle or Asian fusion than Modern Mexican. The menu is not much different. It's an odd eclectic mix of items from sushi to tomahawk steaks and mashed potatoes to tacos. It's odd. The food was ok enough but honestly we could have eaten at salt and tequila downstairs for better tacos. The sushi was actually the best thing we ordered. All in all the service was decent the food was ok, but most had at least 1 issue or another. The price for this kind of final product should be criminal. read more

Maybe it was just an off night? We stopped in for dinner before the Beyoncé show. We had an hour and a half for a leisurely meal... or so we thought. During our hour and a half experience, we ordered drinks. We switched orders from cocktails to lemonade after 30 minutes because our server told us the bartenders were backed up. We ordered an entree from the sushi menu that arrived at about the 1 hour mark. And another entree from the Mexican food menu that never arrived. Eventually we left for the concert without having completed a meal within an hour and a half. I'm not able to recommend this restaurant. It does have a nice vibe and is decorated nicely. read more
