The food is authentic Mexican food and made from scratch - from the tortillas, to the chips, salsa, meat, beans, rice, and chocoflan. Try the hot salsa, it is good. My husband had carne ranchera and I had a barbacoa and carnitas tacos on homemade corn tortillas. The chocoflan is superb, be sure to have it. The last plate was served 10 mins after the 1st plates arrived . The food was ok. I ordered tacos, and the asada was a bit dry. Menudo was good. Carne Asada frys were good. Nice size servings. This was our first time here, seems like it has only been open a few months. The staff are all friendly and it was spotless clean inside. When we we first arrived we had a little trouble with parking, all the street parking out front was full, the parking next to the building is marked for the restaurant next door only, and there are signs that tell you park in the back for the previous restaurant that was here but when we went to park there it didn't appear to be public parking but staff parking as there was no way to go to the front. We ended up parking across the street. We received chips and salsa, the chips were freshly made, the salsa was ok, I actually also received a green salsa and I liked that one better. My carnita tacos were good, had pretty good flavor. The carne asada fries and nachos were decent large portions, could use a little more flavoring. The chicharron tacos I ended up giving to my husband I just wasn't crazy about them but he said they were ok. I think this place could be really good, just a little more seasoning. Also the drinks are in a can but they do give you a cup with ice, they also have agua Frescas but appeared to be in a machine. The prices are decent, the tacos are not the typical small taco sizes as you would normally get at a taco shop they are the regular corn tortilla size, for 10 bucks you get 2 tacos. I cannot say enough good things about El Papas and everyone who works there. My father passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of May and this restaurant was located across the street from the funeral home we used, so when we were making the arrangements for the service we decided to check out the restaurant as a possible reception venue since it would be very convenient for our guests. Our first time in, we were greeted and served by Adrianna who treated us like family. It really felt like we had been friends forever and she took the best care of anything we needed. Her service was some of the best I have ever received and to top it off, the food was delicious and freshly made. We had a variety of food, but the big hits were the enchiladas (not pictured) and the torta ahogada. The salsas and aguas frescas (especially the maracuyá) were also super yummy. After approving of the food, we spoke to Adrianna about the possibility of hosting our reception lunch there and she introduced us to her husband Jose who gave us more information and options. Once we had an idea of what we wanted, he gave us a quote and we told him we would get back to him since we had more errands to run. Later that evening, I got a call from the owner, Jackie, who said she wanted to offer us a discount on the price Jose has given us because she understood what it was like to lose a parent and all that goes in to planning a funeral. She also told me she wanted the community of Tolleson to know that the restaurant is proud to be a part of the community and wanted to help serve its people during their time of need. I was floored. Her genuine generosity moved me, and we agreed on using the location for our reception. The day of the funeral, we arrived and to our surprise there was a flower arrangement for my father on behalf of the restaurant, another beautiful and unexpected touch. The service was too notch as usual, the food was delicious, the beers were cold, the music was perfect and most importantly all of our guests had a great time celebrating the life of my dad. Overall, words can't express the gratitude I feel to everyone at El Papas who allowed us to end such a hard day with a beautiful memory. It will definitely be a staple in our lives from now on and I can't recommend them enough. In this day and age, it is rare to feel valued as a customer, but the El Papas crew truly goes above and beyond to make sure it's patrons feel like family. read more

First time here for breakfast with family. My wife saw some TikTok reviews so we decided to take her for a ride. Inside very clean and the music is Cumbias, which is a little different from standard Mexican music but was very pleasant to listen to. Now for the good stuff. I had the chorizo and eggs and I enjoyed it very much. The beans are old school homemade and very very good. My wife had the menudo and she liked it but wasn't the best she has had but still good. My son had the chilaquiles with potatoes and they were very good. The potatoes are homemade and very good. My granddaughter had the crepes, chocolate and strawberries and she loved them. Her bacon was cooked just the way she likes them. The service was fantastic and the servers were very attentive and eager to make us happy. Overall, this is a great place to try. Can't wait to try the wings, I hear they are pretty good. Also, they have karaoke on Friday nights that I will have to try. Please give this family owned business a try. read more

We are visiting from California, the place where we see and try many Mexican joints. We happen to go to El Papas for lunch. The food was vey delicious. The staff is very friendly. Jose the manager is very helpful. They have live music and karioke Jose was willing to set a karioke track for me as requested. We tried hibiscus and Horchata drinks and of course tacos. All were freshly made and in house. Parking is just like any other downtown location. I called and was told to park in the parking lot across the street. They were also kind enough to tell us not to park next door and risk towing. Best this f is that spices are milder for any taste and they are willing to make it spicier if requested. It's true when they say everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Unfortunately, I do not agree with most reviewers of this place. The food is awful! The rice and beans were not only dry and old but they didn't have any flavor. The chicken enchiladas were bland but at least I was able to eat 1/2 of eat so I didn't walk away as hungry as I was when I arrived. Oh, and it is on the pricey side. Two tacos for $10 (no rice or beans) and the enchilada plate that I only ate 1/4 of the food was $15. The place was totally empty at 5:30 p.m. on a Tuesday should have been our first clue to keep driving. It was totally empty and our service was horrible. The server brought the wrong beer for the michelada and it took 17 minutes for her to return with the right beer. The patio was filthy and obviously not ready for any patrons. Lots of red flags upon entering. A Mexican place that offers wings or burgers on the main page of the menu? Food service is just way too slow. They really have one person in the back making everything. If you come, plan on a very long time, and if it's busy I definitely would not even bother. A quesadilla ordered by one of the kids at our table took 40 minutes to make. It's two tortillas with cheese in the middle. The order was crazy inconsistent. A few people at our table ordered the same thing and it came out quite different for each. We ordered a Sonoran dog with veggies on the side and they didn't even bring veggies. I ordered nachos and she specifically asked me if I wanted jalapeños on it and I said yes. You could probably guess how many jalapeños it actually had (zero). The serving sizes were honestly tiny. The restaurant was extremely clean, fresh, and I noticed the area for live music (I bet it's so much fun there at night!). The servers were very attentive and checked on us frequently. My friends had tacos and loved them, and my friend had a chicken quesadilla, and she was very happy with it. I asked if they made chicken mole even though I didn't see it on the menu, and they made it for me! While we waited for our food, they brought us warm chips and salsa. So simple, but yet we're so tasty! I loved them. The chicken mole was outstanding. If we are back in the area, we will definitely stop here. It doesn't look like a large serving but it was filling. The meat was very good. I had the Barbacoa and it was very tasty. I eat slow so my tortillas got a little hard by taco three, but they did offer more which I didn't take as I just ate the meat plain. It was that good. The beans were delicious too! The only reason it was 4 stars and probably strictly on taste preference was the rice. It was still a little hard and bland. With that said, I would definitely try it again.
