Important note for families: Tulsi does not allow dine-in for children under 6 and does not offer high chairs. If you're traveling with toddlers, plan accordingly. I've been to restaurants that do not have a high chair. But to have this statement that children under 6 are "not allowed." You have lost my business. I will never dine here and will share the message.

Bagara Baingan, Dal tadka, Wheat Roti

6 stars if I could! What's not to love about this authentic Indian restaurant with an award-winning chef who looks after all the guests as though they're his own family? Simple New Mexican ambience within a cozy home setting. Ordered the Bagara Baingan, Dal Tadka, and Wheat Roti - savored all three for their complex tastes, after a week of eating bland hippie food at a retreat! My local friends told me that this place is as authentic as it gets for North Indian food and they weren't wrong!

Oh where do I begin? Went here last night with my family. We ordered the lamb, dal tadka and Baigan bhartha. I was excited to try a local spot! Much to my dismay, the food was very tasteless, lacked salt or flavor. We had asked for spice level to be medium but couldn't taste any spiciness at all. To make matters worse, the lamb was stale and tasted very very old. It did not taste like fresh lamb. The second worst part to our meal (I'll get to the worst soon) was when it was time to pay the bill, the waiter brought us a final merchant receipt with only the total amount for us to leave a tip. We asked the waiter to bring the proper itemized bill with everything we ordered and he disappeared for 20 minutes. When he finally arrived, there was already a 20% tip added to the total but it was very clear to us that the itemized receipt was not brought to us on purpose so we'd pay double the tip. We saw a sign out front that said 20% is included (by the waiter's discretion) to the total bill but the receipt brought to us showed no such statement and I'm sure most people never know of that extra 20% especially since they remove the itemized receipt before handing you the merchant receipt with just the total to collect $$. This was extremely unethical. The worst part of all this is the restaurant gave me and my mother the worst food poisoning of our lives the next morning. I have been on the toilet all morning. PLEASE AVOID!!!

We decided to try Paper Dosa based upon seeing glowing reviews online, but unfortunately this…read morerestaurant doesn't live up to the hype. Paper Dosa isn't a true South Indian restaurant, as they serve both North and South Indian-inspired food. Our comprehensive review is based upon our dining experience at the Indian restaurant.  We arrived 10 minutes after opening at 5:00 PM on Saturday evening and found there was already a 45-minute wait. Fair enough, it's a popular restaurant with the Santa Fe locals. This restaurant only allows reservations for parties of 5 or more.  After being seated first at a community table, we ordered food first and received both our starters and entrees at the table last. We ordered two starters, two entrees, and two drinks. Starters  Dahi Vadai and Paniyaram The Paniyaram were freshly made dumplings that were soft and fluffy. This dish receives a rating of 8/10. On the other hand, the Dahi Vadai tasted like it was frozen and poorly defrosted by the restaurant. The vadai was very dense, falling apart, and flavorless. Another issue with the dish was the yogurt overpowered both the tamarind and mint chutneys. The Dahi Vadai was a pretty-looking dish but poorly executed and flavorless. This dish receives a rating of 4/10. Entrees Paper Dosa and Classic Dosa The paper dosa tasted like the powdered dosa atta found in any Indian store; it was missing the flavor of freshly ground dosa atta that is typically used to make the crepe. The dosa was inconsistently cooked and lacked the characteristic golden-brown color. The sambar and chutneys tasted watered down with a lack of flavor--it was nothing special. The masala potato lacked flavor all together. The Classic Dosa was similar to the Paper Dosa, with the only difference being that the masala potato was served inside the dosa. Both dosas receive a rating of 5/10. Drinks Sittu Kurvi and Indian Chai Sittu Kurvi is a pineapple-based drink with a hint of red chile and rosemary twig. It was a tasty, balanced drink. The drink receives a rating of 8/10. Indian chai was hot but lacked the typical masala spice Indian tea is known for. The drink receives a rating of 6/10. Overall dining experience receives a rating of 4/10. For a restaurant that was recommended for a Michelin Star, these are some other issues we noticed during our dinner at Paper Dosa. The waiter couldn't pronounce the dish names nor knew the ingredients in some of the dishes, which indicates lack of proper training. Paper Dosa's restrooms were filthy with overflowing trash and lacked soap for hand washing, having only been opened less than two hours ago. Cleanliness seemed like it wasn't a priority for the restaurant nor the staff. I grew up in Kerala, South India, so I know about South Indian food. I've eaten at some excellent South Indian restaurants on both the United States East and West Coasts--they all have one thing in common: flavorful food just like we got in India. Paper Dosa could be so much better with properly seasoned food and fresh ingredients!

I wanted to check this place out because it seemed to be a really popular place for Indian food…read more I'm glad I came because the food was really good. I ordered their masala basil dosa and my husband got their popular paper dosa dish. The paper dosa is a lot more fun and definitely catches people's eyes when it gets delivered to the table. I also prefer the crispy thin dosa compared to the regular dosa that I had. The chutneys were excellent for dipping. Staff was really nice and friendly. Tip: get there early. I was so surprised that there was already a line forming before the restaurant opened.

We are so glad we stopped back in. The dining room is tucked away inside a small adobe outcropping on the back of one of the shopping arcades. It's a bit dark, but that is somewhat welcoming on a very hot day, and the ambient East Indian music adds the appropriate atmosphere (along with the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen). Our party of five sampled four of the entrees: two chicken curries, one saag paneer, one dal, and my very tasty (and hot!) lamb vindaloo. (Maybe they kicked the spice level up based on Emily Y's review in May -- I like hot spiced food, and it was just right for me.) Everyone loved their food, and we gobbled up three orders of the basmati rice, some butter naan, and mango chutney along with everything else. We had enough to fill our hungry bellies AND take home some delicious future lunches. Oh, the service is very courteous but a tad on the slow side when it comes to running drinks, but I think that is because they do a robust take-out business and staff is doing multiple jobs. Drinks include a delicious Masala chai and a selection of non-alcoholic drinks, beers, and wines. Well worth a stop next time you are looking for a change of pace from the incredible New Mexican cuisine here.

The flavors were bold and food was amazing. Got the butter chicken and naan. Recommend.read more

The menu is fairly extensive and a kind of weird mashup of Indian with other cuisines. So creative! And best of all it's vegetarian and can easily be made vegan! You order at the counter and they bring it to your table when it's ready. We ordered four dishes (tacos, dosadilla, doselada, and a calzone) and shared at the table. And everything was really good. We may take an opportunity to go back while we're in Santa Fe. Totally fun.

Harry's Roadhouse was located on the way between our vacation rental and town. It caught our eyes because every time we drove past it---and I do mean every single time---the parking lot was jammed. Didn't matter if it was morning, afternoon, or evening, so we knew we'd have to try it out for ourselves. It took some planning, but we managed to get there for an early dinner on our last full day in town. We were so glad we did! We were seated out back on the patio, which we liked. The place felt more like a friend's house than a restaurant. But the food is much better than whatever your friend cooks up! We're a group with widely varying tastes. We ended up ordering everything from a New York strip steak to carne asada tacos to what they call a Buddha Bowl. Everyone really enjoyed their dinners, and there was much sharing around the table. I ordered one of the specials: crab-stuffed sole. Normally I wouldn't consider ordering seafood in a land-locked state. But the crab-stuffed sole "spoke" to me, so that's what I got. And it was delicious! Plus, their portions are very generous. We had a great server named Eric. He handled our large group with humor, care, and patience. Being a group of eight, there was an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill, which most restaurants do these days. Eric was the only server we encountered on our trip who took the time to point it out. If you're looking for good food in Santa Fe, Harry's Roadhouse is definitely a place you'll want to check out!

They sautéed the shrimp with bacon, peppers, and mushrooms. Really good. My wife had the famous lemon ricotta pancakes. Amazing.....better than advertised. My only complaint about a terrific breakfast experience was an up-charge of $3.50 for "100% Pure Grade A Maple Syrup". You can buy terrific maple syrup at Sam's for $12.28 for 32 oz. (38 cents / oz.). Charging $3.50 for 2oz. of syrup seems excessive, but that's just my opinion. I'm not sure why this was frustrating to me, as we have overpaid for food all over Santa Fe, including other restaurants with similar up-charges for "pure maple syrup". We would definitely come back here, but would be wary of similar up-charges.

We start with being overjoyed to find a dinner buffet, which is really rare among restaurants…read moreserving Indian cuisine in Burque. We had many options, vegan and meatish, and tried almost all of them between us. Real standouts were Butter Chicken, Goat Curry, Cabbage with peas (which was way more spicy and flavorful than its name implies), and garlic naan. The absolute star, though, was the Saag Paneer, which was the single best version of this dish we have ever eaten. The dining room is spacious and well decorated, our booth was cozy and comfortable, the high backs giving a sense of privacy in the dining, and the noise level was low enough that we could actually have a conversation. This is one absolute advantage of the older building over more modern design. The staff were pleasant and helpful across the board, and just to round out the review, the bathrooms were spotless and classy to the point of lavish. This is definitely a restaurant worth coming for a sit-down-take-your-time dinner. We will absolutely return.
