Back in my hometown of Sacramento for a family visit and while in Elk Grove,I wanted to try Tule Coffeehouse. It is situated in the quaint old small downtown of Elk Grove, and it has a really cool vibe even on the outside. Once inside, I wanted to try one of their coffees and one of their breakfast sandwiches, which I had heard were terrific. I had a large hot latte which was very satisfying. Their roast is robust without being bitter or overpowering. Not the strongest cup of coffee I have ever had, but very good nonetheless. If you prefer more kicked, then I would have them add an extra shot. Off of their Panini menu, I tried a grilled cheese sandwich that I added bacon to. All of the ingredients on the inside of the Panini were terrific, but the star of the show is thick cut sourdough bread. When toasted up as part of being a grilled cheese, it is crunchy and flavorful. A tremendous sandwich. I look forward to returning to try something else on the menu. This is strictly a breakfast and lunch place. They close at 2 PM, however, it is worth making the drive and trying Tule. My girlfriend has brought home breakfast sandwiches from here before which were really good. But more recently her and I grabbed drinks and breakfast sandwiches, and dined in person during the weekend. When we stopped in we parked across and walked over as the parking lot was full. Once inside we had a few people in front of us before it were ready to order. Once at the counter we ordered. Bacon Breakfast sandwiche (x2) Iced Vanilla Latte Hot Vanilla Latte The indoor area was full so we ate outside in the patio, in the bar tool seating area under the awning. It was the perfect area as it was a a pretty warm late morning, so much so that the coffeehouse turned out the misters while we were there. I like the coffees hop vibe of Tule, the have pastries on site and some local beers available. That's not common for many coffeehouse, but I like that idea here as it definitely attracts more customers. As some people while enjoying a small bit, dont have to just have a Latte or Match with it. The coffee drink was good, and so was the breakfast sandwiche. The bacon in both sandwiches was a little undercooked for my girlfriend's and my liking. It was clearly cooked so I'm not claiming that, it's just not as crispy as I'd like, and so it flops around. In theory, this place is a great addition to the old Elk Grove area, and the aesthetics are definitely a highlight. Unfortunately, the service and overall experience left a lot to be desired. I took my girlfriend here while she was visiting from out of town. I asked if they could make avocado toast, and they told me it wasn't on the menu. We asked if they had bread and avocado, which they did, but they still wouldn't make it simply because it wasn't a menu item. I found that response very odd, especially for what seemed like a simple request. When I mentioned the experience to my sister, she told me she had a similar issue. She and a friend were the only customers on the patio and waited about 15 minutes for their drinks. Eventually, they went inside and found the drinks sitting at the counter. No one had even thought to bring them out to the patio. This place has a lot of potential, but unfortunately it feels like the effort isn't there yet. Had Tule on my list for a while and had passed it many times before coming here recently. The shop had a decent amount of indoor seating for the size it is (although still limited and I would recommend coming earlier to ensure you get seating and an outlet if needed), and had plenty of outdoor seating. Their bathroom is towards the back of the building; they were nice and clean! The staff were friendly. Their menu has the standard coffee shop fare, with a few seasonal options. I opted for the banana pudding matcha. When I got it, the matcha was of a lighter color than I'm used to. Sadly, the matcha was a bit light in flavor, as well. The banana pudding was more of an artificial flavor than I preferred. The other thing is that they upcharge for alternative dairy options. While the shop was cute, the thing I didn't like about it was that I could feel the foot steps of customers walking (the ground felt hollow), which was distracting for me to get work done. A lot of people were on their laptops so it might be more of a personal preference. Other than that, the nice thing about this shop is that it gives you the vibes of a Sacramento cafe, without the headache of parking. There is a large parking lot nearby. Overall, it does the job for working at a coffee shop, but perhaps not my go-to. read more

I was really pleased with my experience at this cafe. The space has a homey and inviting feel that automatically made me comfortable. After ordering my food and a short wait, I found a cozy spot on patio to eat. I selected a grilled cheese sandwich with a iced Bischoff matcha and a matcha chocolate chip cookie. The food was so generously portioned and rich that I wasn't able to finish it. The matcha was as I expected. It was tasty and not overly sweet. I frequently get the breakfast sandwiches so today I got the turkey panini and added bacon. OMG it was so big! The grilled cheese was dwarfed by my sando. I only ate half and saved the rest for later. I also got the seasonal pumpkin cheesecake latte - I'm not a HUGE pumpkin fan so maybe the pizzazz was lost on me. A very quaint cozy place. There's multiple options for seating inside and outside which I love, both sections are such a vibe. They have bathrooms which are outside as well. There's also a parking lot right next to the place that I didn't notice at first. Anyways, we got two of the bacon sandwiches, a berry white mocha, and a pumpkin cheesecake latte, both drinks are part of the specialty menu. There's a nice indoor area with tables and a couch, real plant vines hang from the ceiling. Through the many clean windows, EG Blvd. can be clearly viewed. There's a courtyard area on either side of the establishment that's well maintained with trimmed trees. There's space between the tables and it doesn't feel so crammed. Soft coffeeshop study music is playing in the background. The workers were friendly and the coffee came out fast even with a line but the sandwiches took over 20 minutes to come out. The coffee and food were at market prices; the sandwiches are larger than normal and easily shareable. Parking was easy thanks to the parking lot next door. The coffee was well balanced with many milk alternatives available and not overly sweet brown sugar or vanilla add-ons. The Turkey Panini was savory, the red bell peppers gave it a kick, and the bread was toasty. All the sandwiches were good but the bacon sandwich left a huge impact due to the fluffy eggs. The aioli they put on the sandwiches is amazing. One complaint is that they put so much arugula and some of them are uncooked so it's quite hard to chew and I ended up choking on some of them. Be prepared to wait for your sandwiches though. Don't let the line sway you away, it goes fast and any waiting you may experience is worth while. Small indoor space that can possibly house 15 seated people. It appears more crowded because people waiting for their TOGO/DINE IN orders are standing around in between spaces just so they don't miss their names to be called. Not sure if they have a buzzer system however during my visit today, it wasn't being used. Yay for 2 outdoor seating areas - dress for the weather :) I think you can bring your fur babies! If I can suggest anything to add to this beautiful coffee house is to have a designated waiting space/area. Ok..the VIBE? VERY WELCOMING with light decor and plants. I am so happy I stopped in this cute coffee shop!! Now I didn't get to try their drinks but I did their food and both my breakfast sandwich and my muffin were too notch. I got the bacon breakfast sandwich add avocado and within the first bite I knew I loved it. It was full of favor, great quality ingredients and they didn't skimp on adding the avocado either! The drinks can be a hit or miss; personally not a fan of their matcha, but on my most recent visit, I tried their brown sugar pumpkin spiced latte and it was so good!!! This cafe is one of those where you'll be lucky if you snag a spot inside. It's bustling, and the line can go out the door sometimes. There's plenty of outdoor seating so if you wanted to hang out here and don't happen to get a seat inside, two outdoor patios will do! Just prepare for the weather. I didn't realize the matcha matcha drink only had vanilla in the cold foam so they asked if I wanted additional sweetener - I'm very glad they asked! I added light vanilla sweetener and the matcha came out just how I like it. Paninis are good, you can probably split it with a friend if you aren't a big breakfast person. We came here on October 26th after the Dia De Los Muertos 5K run in elk Grove. We showed up around 9:30 a.m. and it was definitely jam-packed. The line was outside the door and there were at least seven groups ahead of us. Luckily the service was stellar and we got to the front register within 15 minutes. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches one that was with bacon and one that was with some deli meats. I also tried their homemade pumpkin spice latte and my husband got a regular coffee with cream. I do want to call out the pumpkin spice latte that they had because it was beyond delicious. It actually tasted like pumpkin because they mentioned they used real pumpkin puree in order to make the drink. It was smooth, luscious, and very festive in your mouth LOL. The sandwiches that we had were extremely well made because the cheese that was inside was super gooey which melted so well into the like thick slab of egg that was inside and the way that it was portioned within the sandwich allowed you to have a proper bite of all the different ingredients inside. also forgot to mention the individual at the cash register was extremely amazing and sweet. He walked me through the menu because it was our first time there, gave me recommendations on a potential sweet treat to to eat, and was excited to know that elk Grove had a 5K run close by that he would consider doing next year. I love Tule Coffeehouse! Located right in the heart of Elk Grove next to Old Town Plaza, it's such a cute and cozy café. There's limited seating inside, which gets occupied frequently, but they also have two patio areas with seating that make for a nice spot to relax and enjoy your drink. In addition, you can find parking in their lot or on the street. They offer seasonal drinks, and I've tried both the Lavender Latte and the Strawberry Shortcake Latte -- both were delicious! They also serve small pastries, but one of the standouts from their kitchen is the Mortadella Sandwich -- so good! Updating my review since it's been a long time now. I love Tule Coffee for their delicious breakfast sandos. They are big and remind me of Camellia Coffee's breakfast sandos. So when I'm having a craving for one, instead of driving to midtown, I can swing by a local coffee shop in Elk Grove. Parking is still very much accessible because of the public parking lot adjacent to them. However, this review is being updated because of the coffee and aggressive tipping culture. I came to try the cherry vanilla latte since it sounded unique and different. Ordered mine iced with oat milk and half sweet. The cherry vanilla latte has a unique profile but it's not to my liking, but that's just me. The coffee (espresso) was barely there and overall was too sour (acidic). I feel like I've experienced this many other times as well but I wasn't sure if it was the coffee or the barista making it. Now for the tipping. Tipping should be OPTIONAL. The tipping screen should appear AFTER the customer has paid and not before the customer pays. I didn't like that the employee said "Thank you, Linda." while standing and smiling at me. I was about to tap my card when I saw the screen, momentarily confused thinking I had already paid. Felt intimidating that I "had" to tip. Post tip, employee said "Thank you so much Linda." with another smile. Tipping needs to be optional after the customer paid and if it's deserving of the overall service. I do see the tip jar right next to the cashier which is nice but standing there and placing the tipping screen before paying is a big turn off. I understand we're all a little strapped but tipping shouldn't be forced. With that said, I won't be making a revisit unless I'm having a big craving for their sandwiches. Side note, while I did come on a Sunday around 9 am, there was no line. Got busier around 9:30 and onwards. read more

I ordered a iced matcha latte and a breakfast sandwich. They gave me a little buzzer to notify me when my order was ready which is great. I enjoyed my meal in their outdoor patio area. The matcha latte was good. I would prefer a little sweeter. The breakfast sandwich was delicious. The bread was soft and warm. The egg was firm and the sauce was tasty. Perhaps my new favorite coffee spot in Elk Grove! This is the second time I've gone here and my friends and I all got one of the specials. Everything was SO good. Each drink had the perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess. The fruit syrups/purees and cold foams didn't overpower the coffee and matcha either. I tried their mortadella breakfast sandwich last time and that was also really good. If I lived here I'd probably come here once a week. My husband surprised me with an early breakfast/matcha run here, and as a big matcha fan, I was so excited to try it out. We came on a Friday morning around 9 AM and wow the place was packed! It's a small shop, so if you're waiting outside on the little steps and then head in, it can feel pretty tight while standing in line. The staff, though, were super friendly, which made the wait better. It took about 15 minutes to order, and the place was jam packed, but they do have outdoor seating, and luckily I grabbed a spot. I ordered the mortadella breakfast sandwich and a plain matcha latte with oat milk and agave syrup and honestly, WOW!! For such a small coffee shop, the breakfast blew me away. The sandwich was creamy, flavorful, and hands down the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. And the matcha? Delicious! This is exactly how a matcha latte should taste. Smooth, rich, and not too sweet. The kind I'd gladly come back for whenever I'm in the area. The only downside is that I wish this place was closer to me. I had to drive down to Elk Grove which takes about 25 minutes, and between the wait to order (about 15 minutes) and the 10-15 minutes for the food and drink, it's not a quick stop.
