Not sure why I expected more from Tuffet but I did, and maybe that's the nature of reading a great review. I guess I imagined a little more of a 'wine bar' atmosphere but it really is just a bar. That said, it's a terrific bar with interesting drinks, solid wine list and good selection of meat and cheese. Another plus - it has a liquor license, so it you're not a big wine person (me) you can have a good scotch or gin drink. The lighting is nice, and service is excellent. The patio out back is kind of scarce and the inside, like I said, is also sort of empty and could use some personality, but maybe they're working on that. And good service and booze/food makes up for a lot. So I'd say don't go WAY out of your way for this place, but if you're around and want a semi-sophistocated place to get your drink on, check it out. read more

this place has a small fireplace in the backyard. there's a small room in the back called the study that you can rent out. came here tonight for an engagement party. it's a cozy spot with a selection of cheese and meats. there's also seasonal cocktails, which I love. anything seasonal gets me. it only comes once a year! worth considering for a small party. read more

I generally don't like bars. I go to them when friends are in town and we have to show them the NYC that they want to see. However, Tuffet has honestly changed that. Now my default thing to do on the weekends is to go here for some freaking awesome Sangria (my husband likes their beer selection too), and just enjoy a really chill atmosphere, at reasonable prices, with fantastic music. My first trip here was only a few weeks ago, and I rated them a 4 at the time. Since I find myself wanting to come back over and over again, I felt I needed to upgrade this quickly. I was there last night for the first time. I had a glass of the Malbec Reseva and two cheeses, the Bianco Sardo and the Bayley Hazen. All of it was really good. I wanted to like this place...but the second time I went the bartender was so distracted (socializing) and she didn't warn me that the drink she recommended to me was not a pour but an entire bottle (ie, $16)--it was pretty obvious that I--a normal size single girl--would NOT be finishing this. On top of that, for some reason she charged us both tax on our drinks--proceeded to hand us a printed receipt for our 2 drinks. Is this a bar or a cafe? C'mon, get it together. read more

Been twice. It's all great except the small portions of cheese and service is extremely slow-~~~~. The girl seemed overwhelmed (tho there were maybe 7 people), constantly repeating orders to herself and wondering into the air trying to remember where things were and how to compose a cheese plate. I went with friends on a late Saturday afternoon. It's a very dark and intimate atmosphere, but it fits the space. We ordered a meat and cheese plate -- two meats (prosciutto and a chicken liver mousse) and two cheeses (gouda and goat cheese). Everything was delicious, and just enough as a snack for three people. I appreciate (as a reviewer below pointed out, though in more of a negative light) the curated menu of a wine bar but the atmosphere of 'just a bar'. They play loud music. It's dark. All the ladies behind the bar are super sweet. And they have a nice balance of approachable vs. special in all categories: beer, wine and food. It's a great place for a date. I'm always surprised by how dead this place is later on, something I hope doesn't change. One thing I would change: expand the cocktail menu or just focus on beer and wine, the current selection falls a little short. read more

Five stars for concept and the decor inside is really pleasant. And while the concept-- salumeria/fromagerie/wine bar/coffee shop/bar -- is awesome, it's not quite any of those things and all of them at the same time. The good: nice pairings with cheese plate, day drinking special, outdoor patio seating, good beers on tap, very friendly service The so-so: a little overpriced, especially for the cheese, patio is sparse and could use a little hosing down/de-smelling, service was a bit slow. Looking forward to going back for the patio (especially with some more decor and smelling a tad nicer) and drinks selection. I love this place. The seasonal sangrias are creative and tasty (sriracha! Hickory mango!). The food is awesome and prepped right in front of you, with complimentary finger foods and freshly toasted bread. We got burrata drizzled with olive oil, aged Gouda, prosciutto, and chicken liver mousse for $20, with some nuts, fruit, and pickles. My girlfriend and I shared and the portions were great for a happy hour snack. And they have a nice outside area in the back. In short, this place is the sh*t. read more

This place was everything I could have wanted. Low-key, seat yourself, delicious cheeses and delicious wines. The staff was friendly and helpful but allowed diners to take their time and enjoy the flavors. I hope more people go here because this place is great. I had my sister's baby shower at Tuffet, and I really couldn't recommend this place more! The owner was so easy to work with and super accommodating. We had some guests with dietary restrictions and the owner was very quick to offer different options and make sure we had food that everyone could eat. The backyard is beautiful, and really perfect for a small event. We only added a few decorations but you really don't need much. The food was all delicious, fresh, and healthy-ish. My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception here last weekend. Every single thing was perfect, from the food to the drinks to the service. Geez, for a place that certainly has everything going for it (good location, good food, good decor, good backyard), they sure manage to screw it up. I've been here 3 times now and every time has been a service disaster; the portion sizes keep getting smaller, the service slower and the staff worse. Last time we waited 30 minutes for a sandwich and cheese plate (there were 5 people in the bar, and no one else was ordering food), the time before I waited 45 minutes after they charged the wrong credit card that was left behind the bar and they couldn't figure out how to work the machine. Eventually had to go take cash out, and I'm sure whoever got charged for our drinks had a fun time getting their refund. Drinks consistently take forever, and the bartenders are clueless. A real shame, I've put up with some crumby service in New York and I hate to say this is one of the first that I refuse to come back to again. Three strikes, you're out. read more

Great vibe, went in with 2 friends on a Monday night (memorial day) and the inside was empty! Classy setting, dimly lit, great food! Loved there cheese and meat plate...went for the 8 for $32 deal, good for 3 people though I do wish the portions were slightly larger. Overall great night out. read more
