My favorite hidden gem that should not be so hidden! A lovely backyard. Drinks are delicious, especially their frozen! Cheese is always a hit. I had my 30th birthday there in the winter and it was so fun and easy to book. They have hand sanitizer, bug spray- you name it to make everyone comfortable. Tuffet is an exciting addition to the neighborhood. I was really impressed by the selection of meat and cheeses and the wines I had were fantastic. The Lambrusco was the perfect accompaniment to our selection. Smoked Ricotta. Wow. Chorizo was spectacular. There were a few I missed the name of but you really can't go wrong with any of them. I didn't have any of the beer but my companions sure enjoyed it. The owner is so knowledgeable and helped us make some smart pairings. Tuffet is my new favorite date/chill out spot. A cozy little space with a wonderful ambiance and friendly staff. I stopped by with a friend and enjoyed an amazing cheese and rilettes plate, tasty drinks, good music and conversation. I had their spiked apple cider cocktail, both hot AND cold (hey, had to try both). Both were awesome, if a little spicy. I didn't mind. The cheeses, pate and rilettes were stunning. I'm not a fan of blue cheese, but the server recommended a creamy blue that was out of this world. I wish I had written down the name... The raw honey that comes with the cheese plate is to die for. Our last stop for the evening was Tuffet, which after a quick google search revealed a meaning of tuft or clump (perhaps of chese?) or a footstool or low seat, of which they also have plenty here. To call this place stylish, would be rather an understatement. This place would be beloved by font aficionados, who are a very exacting bunch. As it turns out, I had no idea that my drinking buddy, besides being an undercover spy, is also a seasoned sans serif loving babe! Drink wise, I finally caved to the tequila call of the wild, and grabbed an Old Agave. I don't know what my campmate was drinking, as she insisted on ordering and paying for everything. At this point in the evening who can complain. I was starting to like a woman that can DOMINATE at this point, and besides, I really didn't want any artful kicking to be aimed at my vulnerabilities! What you will really wonder at is the perfection of the place. The walls with their crisp white seems, the black lamps hanging over each table, and the stools which seem to levitate in their own perfection, with clean smooth seats, and robot like legs. Yikes I must have come on an off night! The service was a real detractor. I'd give 5 stars for the atmosphere, this is a beautiful bar. Spacious and well decorated with lots of candles and good music. They have a backyard that might actually be heated somehow but, you know, it's January so I decided to just stay inside. They have a solid wine selection, a few interesting cocktails, a handful of good beer options and a full menu of cheeses and meats (plus some desserts and two sandwiches). I was interested to try The Other Sandwich (the vegetarian one) but they weren't serving it when I went so my friend and I split a two cheese platter ($11). This place is pricey for what you get. Our cheese plate was beautiful but we got a small cup of the chevre and a very, very small slice of the brie-like cheese from VT that we ordered. It comes with 4-5 peanuts, walnuts, and dried cranberries and a small spoonful of fig jam, along with a small dish of sliced and toasted breads. Like I said, you're going to need to spend quite a bit here if you're actually hungry but the cheese plate was delicious. Drinks were pretty good, my friend ordered a wine that she liked and I had the Winter Sangria, which was good but felt sort of weak. I'd stick to wine next time. The real issue here was the service. I came at about 10:15 on a Thursday and only one person seemed to be working at the bar. He saw me standing at the bar and took my drink orders but asked me to wait to give him my cheese order. He made the drinks and gave them to me and then walked off again, obviously overwhelmed with filling other drink orders. I stood there for about 10 minutes and could not get his attention. When I did, I asked if I could place an order for cheese and he asked me to wait two seconds and he'd come back. He seemed sort of apologetic but it was frustrating watching him take and fill orders while I stood there and waited (and I'm not picky about service!) This seemed to stem from the fact that they need to wear gloves to handle the food and setting up a cheese plate takes some time. Obviously more people should have been working and he should not have had to handle all the drink orders while also making food. Still, there was a pretentious attitude about this place and having such bad service definitely put me off. read more

The perfect wine bar. Genuinely nice and helpful staff, wonderful food, inventive sangria, great wine list. Super cute art deco interior with a great back patio for summer. (Nice outdoor fireplace for colder temps, too.) We had a small event here, and the staff was truly great to work with--planning was a breeze. And the day came off without a hitch. Its a great date spot, especially if you like cheese. Wines were nice too. Their menu changes often enough that they dont post it online, but you can order various cow, sheep, and goat cheeses by the ounce, and have young, aged, rind, bleu, etc varieties. I sampled quite a few, and even had one of their melted cheese dipping bowls. I did not sample any of the meats. For the price, Id say we got a great cheese and wine meal, and their sampling plates do come with an ample amount of trimmings. There is zero information available as to the sourcing of the food or agricultural practices involved with the animals the dairy comes from, though the bartender did her best to use the "pastured" and "grass fed" buzzwords (without knowing any info about sourcing...). read more

I love Tuffet. It's a frequent stop for wine and cheese. I've enjoyed every cheese, meat and wine I've had here... but maybe I just pick well :) The bartenders are all super-nice. And the ambience is cozy. And the back patio is really nice now that the weather is warm. I love Tuffet so much that I even used it for a group event recently. It went smoothly and the staff was very accommodating. You can reserve the back room (The Study) for free, and we did, but since the weather was nice we took over tables on the patio instead. I love Tuffet so much that I even use it as a coffice during the daytime sometimes. It's very quiet as it's pretty undiscovered, and it has decent wifi and coffee. Can't beat switching to one of their sangria specials as your day comes to a close, either. (Though I wish it opened a liiiittle earlier.) I love Tuffet so, so much. read more

The place is very beautiful. They have a front room, a small side room which can also be rented out for parties, and a beautiful little back patio. My wonderful girlfriend took me her for part of my birthday because she knew I would enjoy it but normally wouldn't spend this kind of money on a little cheese and meat sampler plate. She sprung on a 6 sample plate for $26 (other options are 2 for $10, 4 for $18, and 8 for $32). The cheese is divided on their menu into 5 different types with a total of 14 varieties (1oz each). There's half as many meat options. Wines are mostly $8-10/glass while beers are mostly $6-8 though the full range is $4-14. Although this is primarily all they do, there is a couple small sweet options and a couple sandwiches on the menu as well. We told the bartender/waitress to surprise us with a selection of 4 cheeses and 2 meats but not to include any of the blue cheeses or pate. What we ended up getting was fantastic. I like how everything comes on a slate with markings to identify which is which. In addition to the meat and cheese they gave us a little honey, a few pieces of fruits/nuts, and a basket of toasted bread. We also got a couple of their special sangrias of the day. I really enjoyed the pina colada sangria while my girlfriend was a fan of her passion fruit peach. Sitting outside during a quiet and warm Saturday morning with all of this was a great part to my birthday and I'm glad I came here. read more

So the pros are this place is super cute and has great wine and cheese. The crowd tends to be more mature so it's not the kind of place you come to pick someone up. Plus they have Lambrusco!! Woo woo!!! The cons? I'm went on a Friday and it was dead. And they were playing the WORST old R & B. I'm talking Babyface, Luther Vandross, and Toni Braxton. I actually heard "Unbreak my heart". Nothing wrong with that music. But Friday night at a bar I'm not interested in listening to 90s heartbreak music. It's was actually really distracting and odd. It's Williamsburg. Wow -- this is certainly one of those places that makes Williamsburg a great place to live around. The proprietor couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. (An Oakland transplant, natch.) She had great advice and helped me choose from a daunting selection of cheeses from all over the world. The muenster I chose was perfectly paired with her suggestion of salami. When I got home I tried to save the deliciousness but before I knew it I had eaten the whole thing. Aside from deliciousness, the condiments --gently candied walnuts, dried cranberries (I think) and a sticky, fresh fig -- were superb and the decor was flawlessly elegant yet refreshingly free of pretension. Last Saturday, my fiancé and I held a couples' wedding shower at Tuffet. Everything was great, and we received many compliments on the event. Alicia and her staff were helpful and flexible in the preparation for the party. Their food was fresh and delicious. We had veggie plates, fruit plates and meat/cheese platters that were great. Both the burrata, tomato, pesto and salami, cheddar and fig jam sandwiches were delicious. We also had a potato salad, watermelon salad and bean/avocado salad which everyone enjoyed. We did a beer, wine and sangria bar and they have a great selection. Everyone loved the homemade sangrias, particularly the ginger pear flavor. neighborhood bar without the neighborhood friendliness let me start by saying i love tuffet. it's close, it has a good vibe, and it's consistent. the downside to the consistency however is a couple specific bartenders who go out of their way to make you feel unwelcome. the male bartender specifically is amazing at making you feel inconvenient to his shift here - be it with his dirty looks or walking away mid order. but hey, it is what it is... there are only so many places as convenient and close as the now defunct ore bar (rip). a note to him: i get it dude, living in NY is hard - it's grueling. but this is a service gig, maybe it's time to move back to Ohio. read more

We had a baby shower at Tuffet this past weekend at Tuffet and it was incredible! First of all, the garden area is gorgeous!! The food was amazing; we had a buffet of salads, sandwiches, fresh fruit, veggies, 6 cheese dip, and an assortment of meats and cheeses. We also had an open beer, wine and sangria bar. They had 4 varieties of sangria and one was better than the next!! The service was also incredible!! The platters were refreshed all afternoon and the servers were very accommodating and friendly!! I have gone to Tuffet several times since they opened and love it !! They have a great beer selection, AND clean lines -which can be hard to find in the burg. As of yesterday, on draft, they have Riverhorse Lager, Sixpoint Pils, Smuttynose Winter Ale, Harpoon Munich Dark and my favorite, the Stone IPA. (Not the typical and boring tap selection found in most of the area bars) The space is relaxed but nicer than the average burg watering hole. Good music is always on and the staff is friendly and informative about wine, beer and meats and cheese. I have enjoyed stopping in by myself for a quick beer or chilling there with friends. This place is a real gem. It is just wonderful to have a place in the neighborhood that has great food, great drinks and nice quiet atmosphere. I had a small party here recently and the staff was incredibly accommodating. Alicia, the owner helped me every step of the way and the bartender that night took very good care of all of the guests. Everyone kept saying how nice it was to have a place that wasn't crazy and crowded but had a nice outside space, great service and good quality booze. Was in town for a quick trip. My friend recently moved there so she luckily knew a couple hidden spots for us to check out and Tuffet was the best. We ordered cocktails, beers and of course a meat and cheese spread. Our inital plan was to eat light and grab dinner after but the platter hit the spot and was more than we expected and could have asked for both quantity and quality wise. There was a truffle salami that may have been one of the best things ive ever eaten. There is a cute outdoor space and inside is dimly lit which made perfect for our mood and outing.
