Overall (A) Grew up on Tubbys and it is still awesome. Still boggles my mind that this is not a national chain. The subs are a lot better than subway, firehouse, pot bellies, etc . This location does a great job. Food (A) The only thing holding this back from an A+ is that they changed the bread from how it tasted in the 80s and 90s. Yes I have been coming here for a long time. Back then it was mostly meat and toppings where now the bread is different and has a higher ratio. Besides that all the other ingredients taste the same. My favorites are the Famous, Steak N Cheese and cheeseburger Italiano. But all the subs are excellent. I would get this atleast 1x/week if I lived close by. Value (A) You will pay around $10 to get full. But it is well worth it Service (A+) They are super friendly and provide fast service at this location. Not sure what else you would expect. Try this place out if you are close by. Also most QSR type places or sandwich shops have ratings in the 2 or 3 range. This had a 4. That is awesome read more

One of the most positive things I can about Metro Detroit, is that being born and raised here, we're spoiled in the sense that for those of us who love Tubby's, it's the first and last name, when it comes to first-rate submarine sandwiches. All of the other sub shops are just poor imitations by comparison. My two favorite subs are the "Steak, Mushroom and Cheese" and the "Ham and Cheese." These sandwiches have been on the menu since the early days, and with plenty of "Tubby's Sauce" gives them an edge over the competition. The service is always fast and friendly. Likewise, you always receive a great vibe from the interior of the restaurant. This is a place the whole family can enjoy. I made a promise to myself that I would enjoy some of the other sandwiches on the menu in the future, like the grilled "Chicken Club" or the "Chicken Parmesan. They look very tasty. read more

Born and raised in the metro Detroit area, there is nothing like Tubby's. Subway, Potbelly, Jimmy Johns - nothing compares. It's the best! My personal go-to is the grilled chicken sub with my favorite veggies and you MUST get the Tubby's sauce/dressing. Service at all the locations is great. It's a memory place for me. I was on my way out to a Yelp event on this side of town and had barely eaten anything all day long. I needed to eat something before I walked in, but didn't want to make a big ta do about it, so I decided to find some place quick and easy to eat at. Tubby's came up on my list of places near by, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Now mind you, not all Tubby's are created equal. Some are better than others depending on a few factors, so I knew this could just be a very average experience or something pretty darn good. But, hunger will cloud your judgement, so there's that. Walking in, the place has tons of seating and I liked that. Not all of them do. I wasn't even sure it was open since it looked dark from the street, but I saw someone moving behind the counter and the door was open, so that's always a good sign. A lovely lady greeted me and I told her I already knew what I wanted. (Tubby's steak and cheese or bust baby!) I usually don't vary much from that order even though they have tons of menu options here. She rang me up and even though the prices were somewhat steep for an 8 inch sub and a medium pop, I was so excited to eat here I didn't really care. Normally Tubby's is under $10 a person, but an 8 inch sub and a drink set me back $13.33. More than I anticipated spending but still worth a reliable meal. She ran my order out to me on a tray and the food was delicious. The only thing was the tables were really really sticky. I don't know what they clean with here, but it was kind of gross and super annoying. Enough that I docked a star for it because clean tables shouldn't be sticky. Overall a great meal that was quick and tasty on my way to an event. Service was good and overall a stress free experience. read more

Last time I ate at this Tubbys location I had very undercooked fries when i got a carry out. Sure I could have went back to the store but I already spent 10 mins driving to the store and 15 mins driving back the 3 mile commute. Traffic traffic traffic is the main reason for the time. Cannot turn right on red. So have to wait a while for the light to turn green. Then when it turns green, i have to wait for the traffic to clear to make my turn then drive 20 ft and sit at another red light. Once that turns green again have to wait till traffic clear and proceed to another light 20 ft and wait for red. Now I can go onto Grand River but the traffic backs up at Haggerty and thats two light cycles to get thru the intersection. On the way back its worse as traffic backs up at the grand river 10 mile light. Then backs up at the light 20ft and again at the other light as everyone is making a left turn onto Halsted and this spills over into the regular lanes across the bridge to the light. It's not an easy commute so I switched to the downtown Farmington Tubbys as it was 8 min total commute. They sold that location and now back to square one of this Tubbys location. It sounded like they were under new ownership. So I tried it again but just for a sub sandwich this time for carry out. I got a pizza steak and cheese sub. Seemed to be very little steak and little lettuce in it. Had large tomato slices(which is not a bad thing.) The ladies in the store were nice. I may come back, but the prices were a little too expensive for what you got in the sub. I believe prices should be lower if you are not going to put that much meat in the sub. Not sure if they have control on prices or if it's set by corporate. read more

Let it be known that I am not a lunch meat fan. I steer clear of deli counters, and run far far away from any Subway or jimmy johns in sight- but Tubbys, (this location in particular) is the only place I will EVER quench my sandwich needs. I've tried numerous subs here and each one was better than the next! I think I've narrowed it down to my top two being the freshly shaved turkey breast and the famous! The best part of the sub experience here is the fact that their lunch meat is of high quality!!! The meat doesn't feel like a piece of vinyl against my tongue and the works are always fresh as can be. (Take notes subway, your meats are disgusting.) Not to mention the heavenly aroma of freshly baked bread being constantly made.TUBBY SAUCE!!! Don't ever forget the tubby sauce on your sub! It's like a sinful creamy Italian dressing that's absolutely mouthwatering. As far as sides go, the Mac and cheese bites are pure bliss. Super creamy interior and not fake cheddar flavor will be sure to win over even the most picky palette. The onion chips and jalapeño poppers are great too. They've catered many of my events and I will continue to order from them due to the high quality products and helpful/friendly/knowledgeable staff! P.s. I love Tubby's however this location is terrible. I ordered a steak and cheese it was absolutely gross, no seasoning the mushrooms weren't fresh the mushrooms look like they came out of a can or something. I love this Tubbys. The women who run this are so nice. They keep the place clean and they always seem to be working hard. They get my order correct and if they don't know they always ask me to double check and also ask me if if I want it cut in half. They ask me if I want my fries well done. The pop machine is clean, not sticky. Things I've noticed. I will always return to this Tubbies when I'm in the mood for a BLT. I wish Tubbies wouldn't have done away with the Italian Sauage Sub. That was my favorite but this is a close second. read more

In my opinion this is the best place in Detroit to get a Philly Cheese Steak sub. I have never been to Philly and I might not know what a classic Philly should taste like. However, I do know what my taste buds tell me and this one is THE BEST. I have been going to Tubby's since I was a little kid and when they opened this one in Novi I was pumped! The sub comes with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, provolone cheese, and Tubby's sauce. The sauce is a like a creamy Italian dressing, but a bit different. As my mom would say 'The bread is the foundation of the sub, without good bread you have nothing'. You couldn't be anymore right mom! They bake it fresh right there and don't settle for frozen crap. It makes all the difference, trust me! I suggest you get your Philly on white bread, but I'm sure wheat or cheese bread is just as good. They don't overload the dressing and mask the flavor of the steak like other places. For my snobby palette I like an equal balance of everything, not a sub that is loaded with dressing that runs away with the show(taste). I am not a big fan of their fries because I think they overload them with salt. If you like McDonald's fries then you will be in heaven, not for me. The menu has quite a few interesting and tasty sounding subs that I am always meaning to try, but when I walk up to the counter I am only craving one thing. I've eaten at this Tubby's for a few years now. It's always clean and the women who run it are always very friendly and know what they are doing and are always helpful. I always tip them well because they don't screw around taking their time chit chatting, staring at their phones in between cooking (which is unsanitary) and they pay attention to your questions. The drink machine is always clean. The only con I have is there is no drive thru and they never answer the phone if you wanted to order ahead...a couple times I had my kids and wanted to swing by and do a quick pick up. I used to frequent this location, until a co-worker of mine tipped me off that since the new management/staff the subs quality have declined. So I stopped in today cause it was convenient and I should've heeded my co-workers warning cause it was quite possibly the worst Tubby's famous sandwich I've ever had. They're skimping on the meats/lettuce/onions/tomatoes......it pretty much tasted like a sub bun with Italian dressing. Needless to say this will be my last visit to this location and would rather take my business up the street to the Walled Lake location where they still know how to make a good Tubby's Famous sub. read more

It was my first time trying Tubby's in a long time. I haven't come here that often compared to Subway. But coming at an odd time around 3 pm, there wasn't any other people inside and it took a little longer than it could have. I got the Southwest chicken sandwich combo and for those who don't get Tubby's, there is a variety of sub combos for 5.29. I liked the sandwich but the sauce kind of killed it for me. You can either get fries or chips with it so that's cool. Regardless of this experience, I'd recommend trying other subs on their menu to see which suits your own taste. read more

I really like this Tubby's. The bread is always soft and they make your food right there while you watch. My favorites are the steak and cheese and the ham and cheese. Go to another tubbys if you want a specific sandwich but there are better options in this area like bellacinos, dagwoods deli or Charley's deli which all have better food and client service focused management.
