New owner alert! It was my first time dining in since Bode's reopened with new owners. They did a great job of remodeling, removing the fried smell, and freshening up the space. The menu has a larger breakfast selection compared to the last menu. So exciting! Since we were here for lunch/dinner, we opted for lunch/dinner options. I ordered a tuna melt with tomatoes and fries. The tuna was so good! Love that they don't use too much mayo. Solid pieces of premium tuna! The only downside was the tuna was cold. There is an option to order it cold, but I was looking forward to a hot tuna melt. My husband ordered the box car - tanker size. Most sandwiches come in regular or tanker size. If you have a healthy appetite, the tanker is the perfect size. The box car comes with corned beef. I stole a bite, so good! He didn't opt for fries, so it came with chips. My mom got fish and chips. This is a good size portion! This meal comes with soup or salad, 3 pieces of fish, fries, and coleslaw. The coleslaw was on the watery, mayo side but everything else was great! We are so happy that Bode's is back! Probably some new restaurant kinks with the cold tuna and the coleslaw, but we will be back! read more

Review from 12/12/25 My buddy and I had visited Bode's near Downtown Plymouth for an early lunch. I ordered the French Dip, fries and a pop. My meal came out to be about $27 before tip. The French dip was just ok. The fries and homemade ranch (I love homemade ranch) were awesome. It was as a bit tight in there, as this was as the closing week. Subsequently, the restaurant has reopened under new management. The service was perfect. I don't feel that I the cost aligned with the quality/quantity of the food. This was my first and last time at Bode's Corned Beef House and it was pretty darn good. It is sad that they will be closing after many years in the next 2 weeks. Please go and support the staff as they lose their jobs before the holidays. Our waitress was a sweet older lady, the one you look forward to in an old diner move. Of course I had to get their corned beef, since it is in the name. I ordered the eggs and corned beef with a side salad. The waitress whipped up a fresh batch of ranch dressing, just for us. My friend got the French dip, which looked awesome too. The restaurant itself looks like an old diner up front and a family restaurant in the back. It has an old school feel and the service to match. Good Reuben. I debated between three or four stars. I knocked it one star because I would have preferred it to have double the amount of sauerkraut and a thicker slice of Swiss cheese. I also ordered "lean" but had some pieces that were not that lean. Running errands nearby and realized I was hungry, so I searched near downtown Plymouth and found that there was an actual deli restaurant that escaped my knowledge for years. The place looks cute from the outside and the inside is quite antiquated in a charming way. I was surprised when I walked in and saw virtually nobody here except for one diner. I ordered a corned beef sandwich which came with chips and a pickle. In addition I asked for iced tea, bringing the total to $20 for everything (not bad for a sandwich shop these days). The corned beef was pretty much on par with other delis I've been to, so it didn't blow me away. But I was very satisfied with the meal overall and glad this place is not too far from me. read more

Difficult to give a rating. *The "box car" , see photos, was a traditional reuben subbing cole slaw for the sauerkraut. Usually restaurant chips aren't good, but these were. I would rate the food a four or five star. * Cheryl, the server was very attentive. * Downgrades are wooden unsealed , customer tables. Age of interior walls and windows not easy to keep spotless. If you have a pickup with the long bed, you will have a difficult time in the parking lot. Also, my pet peeve of having to pay with a QR code. read more

Went here a few weeks after their reopening in March 2026 and WOW! Menu contains all the greatest hits of the past (corned beef, fish n' chips, breakfast specials, etc.). Food was hot, fresh and delicious and the service was top notch. This Plymouth gem has a new lease on life! read more

95 minutes for a corned beef sandwich ? not sure why we waited that long but we did. Can I have a Diet Coke? We're all out of Diet Coke sir.......we don't have anyone to change the syrup right now. 65 people in the restaurant and they have one Cook ....the other Cook is busing tables and warming up the gravy and soup in the back. I physically saw people waiting one hour and 15 minutes plus for a carryout sandwich. Several people sat down waited 20 minutes 25 minutes for someone to come and serve them. DO NOT PASS BY BODE'S! This place keeps up a Plymouth standard as a local hotspot with decades and decades of excellence, it's been rumored, in its specialty, corned beef. I've only ever had one meal here, this one, and the corned beef hash stands up to that reputation. The scrambled eggs were incredible as well! (The only thing that might better this restaurant is locally sourced jam and honey as well as caraway seeds in the rye bread but that's small-potatoes-type nitpicking.) Service: Excellent -- polite and quick! Liam did a great job. Ambience: Old time setting with fun kitsch posters and placards from the old days filling the walls and old-time restaurant furniture creates a comforting, fun ambiance of the 1950s. Food: Corned beef hash cannot be beat. I got the crispy edges, my girlfriend got the non-crispy version and both were excellent. Scrambled eggs with both Swiss and American cheese were perfect, the best I've ever had! Melty cheese making it moist and no chunks of cheese, and I've never had that in a scrambled egg dish in a restaurant. Wow has this place gone down hill since the "new owners" took over. Food is never cooked properly. They act like they know what to do but the food is now awful. From the wait staff that acts like "oh this is normal" to the cooks who violate standard food practices like once it goes to a customer's table that food is no longer able to be severed. Outstanding! Best corned, beef I've ever had, hands-down! I had the pastrami grilled on rye with coleslaw, box car style. This building was built in the late 1800s and everything about it is old school charm, including the red leather swivel stools, the friendly bar and an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger with Chuck Norris playing on the television. Teehee! I felt right at home, casually conversing with the cook and my server, Jordan, and watching a whole episode of Walker, while devouring my entire sandwich! Believe me, I could've saved half for lunch tomorrow. There is nothing lacking in the portions! That corned beef was so full of flavor, I could've eaten it with just the coleslaw as it was served, but being kind of high maintenance, I had to see what other sauces they had. I had some good old straight up horseradish... Cleaned out my sinuses! Haha! And I also had a side of their barbecue sauce. I asked the cook if she made it with molasses and she said yes. Our second visit, and they did not disappoint. From the fabulous waitress serving us, the other members of the staff interacting with our pup on the patio, to the absolutely fantastic food, this is a gem. Fiancé had the avo Bennie on multigrain bread, served with house potatoes, the bread was superb for this dish, and I had the corned beef and Swiss omelette served with crispy hash browns, both were superb. I've wanted to go to Bode's for years, and I finally got the chance. The restaurant is right by railroad tracks, adding charm to the old building. When Planet Fitness moved into a nearby building, they took over the entire parking lot. Bode's had an agreement with the previous owner to use the lot, but now there are signs everywhere saying, "Planet Fitness parking only. You will be towed." What a great neighbor. Bode's still has parking on the east side of their building and across the street. The atmosphere inside is very inviting and relaxed. It feels like you're having a meal at a friend's house with their mother cooking. It reminds me of a small-town Northern Michigan diner. I usually don't comment on the waitstaff, but I've never seen so many people in a restaurant stand around and do nothing. With the restaurant being very slow, it still took a long time to get a menu and even longer to get a glass of water. I ordered the Corn Beef sandwich, which comes in two sizes: Regular and the "Tanker." I ordered the "Tanker," expecting it to be epic in size. It cost $18. When I ordered it, I didn't notice the sandwich was only 9 oz. It came with a pickle and potato chips. When it arrived, I saw how small it was. Epic? Hardly. $18 for a sandwich? Seriously. I will say it was one of the best corn beef sandwiches I've ever had, but not worth $18. Will I go back to Bode's? I'd love to, but I can't afford their prices. read more

OMYGOSH......what a pleasant surprise......usually when a favorite restaurant is sold it seems the new owners never quite live up to the reputation of the former owners....i'm happy to report not only do the new owners live up to the deliciousness of the previous owners......they might even surpass them......i remember feeling sad that another favorite was soon to be nothing but a memory.....then came the news that bode's had new owners.....i was a bit leery about trying it.......figured no one could live up to my memories of bode's of old....for once i'm happy to be proven wrong.....i ordered my favorite go to......the boxcar and dare i say it.....i think it was better than the original (in my humble opinion)......the corned beef was done to perfection.....thinly sliced & piled high on fresh baked rye with delicious coleslaw which was perfect.......the fries were great.....gbd (golden brown delicious) done to a perfect crispness that didn't go soggy after they cooled down......my friend equally pleased with her pastrami sandwich, as was her husband who ordered a corned beef tanker (the sandwich was huge)......the server was great......very friendly & knowledgeable of the items on the menu as well as accommodating with our various requests......they also did a phenomenal job of sprucing up the interior .....overall a great ambiance.......if i could give them 10 stars i would........ read more

We come here every couple of weeks because my husband loves the Pastrami. I get various items- the Rueben wrap is one of my favorites over a traditional Reuben but love those too. The poutine here is good and done the way poutine should be with curds and gravy and that's it. Fish here is also done well and I like that you can specify the number of pieces I have yet to have a bad soup here but be warned if you are salt averse y pi I won't like it because every soup I have tried here is heavy handed with salt- I love my things on the saltier side and even for me sometimes it's noticeable that it's too salty. read more

I just finished eating the best corned beef rueben sandwich I've had outside of a Jewish deli in NYC. The corned beef was very lean, tender and so flavorful. I used to live in the Plymouth area many years ago and surprisingly had never been to Bode's. So I decided to try it during my visit to see family. So worth it! read more

Restaurant dine-in options are still at 25% occupancy but I am doing take-out. We used to come in for lunch when we worked in the neighborhood but all of us have scattered to different offices in the area and to different regions of the country. When I walked in, there were large groups enjoying the last bites of a late brunch (doesn't a corned beef hash omelette sound good, right now), enjoying a burger, or waiting for pick-up at the bar. I had ordered the Box Car, named perhaps for the fact that the restaurant sits to the side of train tracks, a corned beef sandwich with Swiss cheese and slaw, served on grilled rye. In addition, I ordered a side of fries, for a perfect pairing. The sandwich was large and delicious, especially with the Thousand Island dressing. I should have taken a closer look at the menu - I can't believe I gave up an opportunity to order poutine. This score is not based on the food or service - as those were fine. This score is based on the fact that the staff was very lax at wearing masks. Our waitress wore hers under her nose half of the time. An older guy with longer dyed black hair was sorta like a porter - did not seem him cook but was carryout things to different locations and crossed through dining room constantly - his mask was down below his chin. A younger waitress pulled her mask down when in kitchen area but pulled it back up to take food to customers. The cook generally always wore his but I saw it slipped down under his nose a few times. Not sure if it was owner or regular customer but a tall guy in his 30's (-ish) came in without a mask and everybody greeted him. As we were leaving, an older couple came in and only the guy was wearing a mask. Personally, I do wear a mask except when eating when out in public. I won't be back until the pandemic is under control. I won't even get carry out due to lax mask wearing here. If you care about staff wearing masks - skip this place Overall, it is a historic building that has not seen a remodel in many years - if older buildings are not your thing - skip this place. As for food - it was good! I had a burger and it was very juicy. Hubby got pastrami and really enjoyed that too. But, again, this place is a no-go at this point. read more

It was very good but a little sweeter than I expected so I needed to salt it up a bit. Delicious lunch with good portions! This has the "melt in your mouth" Detroit corned beef I was looking for. I ordered the "Bode's Famous Corned Beef Sandwich", my family ordered the reuben and BLT. Our server was very nice - friendly, attentive but not too much, and helpful. When asked, she suggested adding Swiss, as that's what most regulars order. Environment: Super casual, had a feel that lots of groups were regulars well know to the staff. When you enter from the front, it appears to have no seating, but most of it's in the back. Parking: Easy peasy, paved, no issues Cleanliness: Very disappointing. The table felt so dirty and sticky that my sweater was sticking to it. Same goes for the bottle of Thousand Island dressing. Even after wiping them down myself, it had the waxy sticky feel that some old diners have. I used a wipe of my own and it came away brown and black. I didn't bother checking the bathrooms because I felt uncomfortable. I would return, but only for takeout...maybe St. Patrick's Day. read more

I ordered their "Tanker" reuben. It was served with chips & a pickle. The corned beef was excellent as was the toasting on the flat top. The portion of corned beef was generous, plenty for a hungry appetite, but not so large that there was extra to take home. The cheese ... to little Swiss cheese. The sauerkraut? Too little and too mild. I appreciate that the Thousand Island sauce was served on the side and I was offered mustard as an alternative. The pickle was served chilled and crisp, thank you. The front patio has five 2-top tables. Being on Main St. and adjacent to RR tracks makes for a noisy-ish venue. Not objectionably so, but definitely a distraction. The downsides? Only 2:5 staffers had masks and both were wearing them incorrectly: One around the neck/Adam's apple and the other covering only the lower lip, leaving the nose and upper lip/mouth uncovered. No sanitizer wipes or liquid were available. Will I return? Not until there is COVID vaccine or until they increase their sanitation. read more
