They do not accept ANY cards We were riding our bicycles on Hines Drive, with Hines drive being closed for bicycle riders all summer (every Saturday) After our ride we went for breakfast here at Menka's Food was good and the service too. Did a search on my Yelp app looking for highly rated places relatively close by on my drive from DTW to EL, and Menka's kept popping up so I finally took the time to head over since I was craving a good hearty breakfast - and so glad I did, this place may seem like an ordinary cafe you drive by all the time but some things they do here are extraordinary. I took a seat at the counter, was promptly greeted and asked if I wanted coffee - yes - and got a cup of hot joe immediately. Went through the menu as she came back and I asked her for the top sellers. She named a few but said the Country Omelet is the way to go for breakfast - especially if I'm hungry. Oh yeah - I'm starving and the pics look really appetizing so let's go for it. I noticed there are a lot of repeat and local customers here, they know each other well and pop in for to-go orders. Service here is friendly and straight-forward. My Country Omelet came out in timely fashion, and it was massive, hot, and damn good. Inside the omelet is a crispy hash brown - which was fresh and stayed crispy and wasn't soggy which I love. That sausage gravy was really good, very robust and full of flavor, I could order it as a soup. The quality of the food was very good, it wasn't greasy and everything was just cooked to perfection. It was honestly one of the best omelets I've ever had - hands down. Good portion, well priced, solid quality, very flavorful and robust. Menka's surprised me, and I definitely need to go back for more. You can consider me a regular when I get back into town. read more

Menka's is incredible. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk in your are brought back to the 50's. It's a pristine diner with incredibly friendly people. I asked for a plethora of eggs, and that's what I received. Once I received it, it was amazing. My girlfriend also was impressed with her food. My daughter and I came upon this little gem of a place on our way to see a movie this morning. The service and employees were great. They greated us like we were old friends. The food was good. We both had a basic breakfast, which was delivered to uuus fresh, fast, and hot. We didn't have a lot of time before our movie started, but I was really interested in something I saw on the menu. It was a grilled cinnamon roll. The waitress said it was really good, so we ordered it. It was, just as she said, really good. They operate this restaurant with a great deal of honor and integrity. They don't take credit cards, so bring some cash. This is going down as one of my favorite places. I can't wait to go again when I have more time too look over their menu. Enjoy! read more

Menka's is so basic, but in a good way. When we moved close to Menka's we stopped in for a carry out menu that does not exist. The grandson apologized, they were in the process of getting some but I don't think that happened. We did order dinner that night and got a little Menka history. Totally family owned, grandma comes in the AM and makes the soups and breakfast. Grandpa mans the grille, grandson works the dining area ( generally helpful all around), and let's say cousin Jim Bob works BOH. Food is simple, scratch, grandmas kitchen stuff. They close Sunday and by 6 (I think) every other day. Mostly we get breakfast to go, and it's great and cheap. I pulled out my debit card and grandma told me they've never taken plastic. I expected to be turned away but she followed up with "give me your name and phone number and bring the money when you have it".... I was stunned, was she actually letting me dine and dash on good merit??? I did find enough hard cash to pay my $10 bill but it was totally the thought that counted. So, scratch, grandma made food, and super nice family that you want to give your money to. Get your life together by 5:00 and go to Menka's..... bring cash. read more

If you like old-school Polish diners, this is Heaven! I just had boiled ribs and homemade kraut. Flavorful, tender, comfort food. I may have to come again tomorrow for Polish pork chops. Weekend breakfast specials are tasty and super affordable. It's a smallish place, so there may be a bit if a wait, but worth it. Also: BRING CASH. Menka's doesn't take plastic. Good prices! Try when it's a special the cabbage rolls you can taste the home made flavors. The Greek large salad is enough for about 3 or 4 people and delicious. I thought it was actually called: Menka's Kitchen. I really love this place! This is a Family Restaurant. The prices are excellent. They serve awesome comfort food. I love the fact you can get daily specials guaranteed to be delicious. I've never been disappointed in their soup. Summertime ends too soon and part of the reason is because Menka's makes the most awesome HOMEMADE potato and pasta salad. Everything is always the freshest there and always CLEAN. The head cook is a whiz and the wait staff are like family. It's a great place to hang if you are new to the area and want to get to know the locals. Great place for traditionally cooked food. My favorite dishes: Hot Chicken Sandwich, Stuffed Cabbage, and Club Sandwich. They have Breakfast Specials and breakfast is ALWAYS hot, delicious, and made to order. Good coffee, too! I have only been there twice. For breakfast we both got 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. It has been a long time since I actually got a breakfast hot to the table. The potatoes were crispy and not frozen. The toast was actually buttered instead of just a dab in the middle. Our waiter was personable, helpful and friendly. The second time we went on a Friday and had the Friday Special deep fried cod. It was ok but, not my favorite. I got the coleslaw based on someone else's recommendation and while it was good and creamy I prefer a little horse radish in mine. I had the hash browns again and they were still good but, not as crispy. I was disappointed that the strawberry pie and/or shortcake were all sold out. The homemade items seem to disappear fast. I intend to go again. Everyone likes something different and I did not see anything wrong with anything. The place is clean and neat and you get good service. There are a lot of home made items and I am thinking that is your best bet. I hope to return and up my rating to 5 stars. read more
