Gj's has been around for a long time. They must be doing something right. I've eaten here a few time for breakfast. Prices are on the lower side but the special also cuts back on portion size. Not complaining just making everyone aware. On my last visit the waitress could have been a little more upbeat. Once ordered the food came out pretty promptly but, in my opinion, could have been done better. Ordering eggs sometimes vary from what you expect to what you receive. My main issue was with the hash browns. I understand that I like my hash browns more crispy but these crossed the line. They were put on the griddle but weren't left there very long. They had a few darker spots but some of the potato in the center were still half raw. Lots of hard surfaces and everything appeared clean. As I said they've been there a while so atmosphere is homey. Not a bad place to have breakfast. It's not one of my favorites but I will go back. read more

Really BAD experience.... Was excited to try the fish.. called was told it was hand battered.... Went in and ordered fish with salad and baked potato...... ranch dressing was bubbly and warm so I was scared to eat that... fish was just bad.... Was told it was 12 ounces... they must weigh it after they batter it. Was told it was cod... I don't think so... wasn't white enough and the batter and fish wasn't cooked enough. The oil was probably too hot, that's why the outside was brown but the inside was doughy. You could actually still see some of the orange color to the batter. Not crispy at all...The baked potato was good. I peeled all the batter off, ate the fish and the potato, then saw what appeared to be a grayish eyebrow hair on the bottom of my plate.. that sealed the deal... the guy cooking with the salt and pepper hair and afternoon shadow beard needs to put a damn hairnet on his head and face so it doesn't end up on the plate. I almost puked.The only thing good about this experience was the waitress... she was apologetic and nice..I felt bad for her. You really have to know what you're doing to have good hand, battered fish and chips and it's quite obvious, the cook that was shedding on my plate hasn't figured that out yet.... We will NEVER be back..... I'm soo mad I didn't just go to Michnos for their fish..... this was a waste of 40 bucks read more

Being Friday during Lent I stopped in at a local diner for a fish dinner. My server, Roberta, was a real pleasure. My food came quickly and hot and my drink was replenished timely. I was in from out of state to help my sick brother. After I took him to the doctor, we came here for an early dinner. I guess the server (young, dark hair and chubby) didn't like the looks of us or something. From the very start, she was short with us and seemed annoyed. Never once did she check to see if everything was ok. When we were half way done, she slapped our check on the table. She was chatty with a couple of tables, but treated us like dirt. The price: $8.00 On the menu it says freshly sliced: False This is what I get for trying new places. The gyro meat was more like breakfast sausage texture, like three meatloaf STRIPS. There is nothing fresh nor sliced about this meat. The bread was not warmed up, steamed, not even microwaved, very stiff and too thick for the small amount of meat you get. Also, they put the sauce in a cup, on the side... perfect...but with no damn lid, filled to the top. Spilled all inside the box. Also, asked for an extra cup of sauce, $1.00?! No thank you. This is not a place for a REAL gyro. Olympics Coney in Westland is cheaper on price. They actually have sliced gyro meat. The bread is warm, and wrapped nicely in foil. Am I trippin or was this place open 24-7 before? I wish it was because the proprietors of GJs know what they are doing with Omelets. Omelet you in on a little secret - If you are a chef-in-the-making and they want you to prepare a dish, an omelet is one of the items they will likely ask you to make and these folks here do it flawlessly. Perfectly cooked all the time and evenly cooked, no lumpy surprises, no overcooked areas, just evenly cooked perfection and perfectly seasoned. I am an omelet snob and in an area where there's more Coney Island/Diners with the same menu, this egg dish stands alone. Do you like hash browns? If so, this is the place to be, because they do this better than most too. Some places, like 40 of the 90 Coneys in the area mess hash browns up, not here, they are distinguished. The coneys hit the spot as well and also the chili cheese fries. Some of the menu prices are higher than some in the area, but they make up for it in flavor and good service. Well worth it. Location is clean. I am a fan. If you are one of the breakfast lovers that Magic Mike mentioned in the film "Magic Mike" this is the spot for you! read more

The vibe here is mainly older people which let's you know it has to be good. I had the Mexican Omelette and Biscuits and Gravy, they were both delicious and fulfilling. Nice reviews about the gyro sandwich so I tried it. First off this is not fresh meat cut off the spit. Its presliced meat they heated up. Second, this sandwich is the blandest, not even the onions had flavor. I've had way better gyros at Olympics in westland. In other words...if you want a real gyro (with more than 3 presliced pieces of bland meat) directly off the spit, fresh tomatoes and strong onions, DONT GO here. Run...Because you see the picture of my gyro. ITS SAD. 2 bland gyros with no hardly any toppings for $17. No sides or anything. Me and mines will never make that mistake again. read more

I was issued a full refund on site, we ordered a very simple breakfast carry out. The food quality was Terrible, it was a 100% sign of a cook trying to cut corners and push out carry outs to catch up on dine in orders. The soup is good but unfortunately nothing else is. The cook is not very conscientious. Frys came under cooked, when replaced they came soaked in grease. Whoever prepared the frys didn't even bother shaking them off before putting them in the plate. Too many negatives to recommend. read more

Haven't been there since it got remodeled and called GJs or whatever. It just wouldn't be the same, used to be a local favorite though. Might be the same though, guess I should give it a chance, someone else review it. UPDATE : I since have visited the newly remodeled "GJs" and it's pretty much the same experience as Coles, just in a shinier setting. It doesn't quite have that old at home feel like Coles, but it still serves good coney food and serves as a bit of a hangout and staple in the local area. read more

I don't think I ever posted a review or ever felt the need to, but this place was terrible from the beginning. Their hours aren't updated so we ended up ordering around a half hour before they opened, but we got there around 20 minutes after opening and asked if they had an order. All we got was "...no" without even glancing at a screen. Nothing more. So we decided to check our bank and the charge was pending. We went back in showed them our confirmation email and was responded with a very defensive waitress. "OKAY! I didn't know!!" And then getting frustrated because she for some reason couldn't see what we even ordered. So we ended up just telling her what we got. Their fryers weren't turned on yet so we had to wait another 15 minutes. They gave us our food and we left. When we opened up the food, it was nothing special. Burnt ground beef in the loose burgers, a burger patty thinner than McDonald's. Bottom bun turned into mush from the grease. The fries were the only thing we had hope for but go figure....they weren't cooked all the way, so they were very grainy. All in all, very disappointed and will NOT be returning. We had a good breakfast at GJ's. This was formally a Clock Restaurant years ago, but a nice remodel inside makes it look like new. I ordered the Genie's Omelet, which was sausage, potatoes, a biscuit and gravy covering everything. We also ordered an egg beater omelet with hash browns & onions and a biscuit and gravy with eggs on top. All were prepared as requested. Good service.
