This morning I tried the special Strawberry Tres Leche French Toast. I really like First Watch's French Toast because the soak the bread just the right amount. The toppings made the dish really delicious, especially the warm dulce de leche! I got an order of the million dollar potatoes on the side. I coach at USA hockey arena and a few of the coaches have made it a tradition to go to first watch afterwards. I usually get the elevated egg sandwich which is amazing! 3.5 stars for really silly reasons? We wandered in on a Saturday morning, and it really didn't look too busy. Only half of the tables had anyone seated, but we somehow still ended up waiting for a table for 3 for about 15 or so minutes. The food itself was worthy of 4 stars, though I would say that it leans more towards being "Instagram ready" rather than tasty unto itself. The lavender wild berry french toast was fun, but the flavor got to be a bit overwhelming the more I ate it. The next time I come back, I think I'd prefer to go with something simpler. Service is what holds my review back from 4 stars. Our server was very friendly, but he seemed a bit overwhelmed with the number of tables he was looking after (and again, the restaurant only seemed half full). Maybe they need to sort out a staffing issue or something else going on, but there was just something... not quite gelling with this restaurant. We'll no doubt wander back in another day, and I'm hoping I can report a different experience then. read more

First time at a First Watch. I ordered the Market Hash - veggie hash with eggs your way and it came with a piece of toast and jam. It was all tasty and the portion was fair. Price was reasonable too. First watch was wonderful! I came here with my friends and we loved their service, juice drinks and brunch options. We enjoyed the Eggs Benedict, seasonal French toast, and Belgian waffle. My personal favorite was the Eggs Benedict. The eggs were the right amount of runny and paired really well with their hollandaise sauce. Third location for us and doesn't disappoint. Reasonable waitlist reservation, immediate seating. Love this seasonal specials, the Holiday menu being one of the highlights, especially those Cinnamon Chip pancakes. The one thing I don't love is that sometimes you can tell their pancakes have been premade and heated to order. The crispy exterior is what leads me to believe this is what's done because it's the same thing that happens to me at home if I'm batch cooking and reheating on the griddle. Their turkey sausage gravy and biscuits are super good. Eggs cooked as ordered and decent quality. Their juices are usually also good but the red medicine being our latest try wasn't our favorite. I also loved their blueberry lemon cornbread skillet and the lemon curd/ blackberry French toast from last winter's menu. The food is so bland. The Power Breakfast Quinoa Bowl was a disappointment. No seasoning. Healthy food does not need to be tasteless. Grits is one of my favorite breakfast foods. This was the worst grits I've ever tasted. I had to go home and add to the plain bowl of grits. Also, see the small amount of grits placed into each bowl in my photos. Only around a third of the bowl is filled. So cheap! The grits are overpriced at $3.29. The bowl should be filled to the brim! I have no idea why this restaurant chain seems to be so popular. Skip First Watch and go to French Toast Bistro or a Coney Island in your neighborhood. I guarantee it will be better than First Watch. read more

A coworker and I went on a Tuesday around noon and it wasn't busy, so I was surprised we had to wait at all to get seated. Waited a long time before someone came by. The most disappointing thing was the food. A brunch place that doesn't know how to cook eggs properly should hire a different cook. I ordered a skillet with over medium eggs, and they were over hard, leaving no yolk available to mix into the skillet. My coworker asked for scrambled eggs and got a very unappetizing plain omelette. Thank goodness I happened to have a buy one get one entree free coupon card, because that was not worth the full price. I'm definitely not going to go back to a brunch place that can't take the time to make scrambled or over medium eggs correctly. read more

Overall, rounded up to four stars. First Watch can be pretty good but I never rush back to have brunch here but it's a good spot to meet up with a friend. Coffee comes in a large pot or if you get water, they give you a large bottle so refilling drinks is easy. I usually look at the specials to try something new and fun but decided on my usual, Salmon Frittata which was fine. The frittatas here always end up being a touch overcooked and I always need to add Cholula & black pepper. First Watch is a huge chain with over 400 locations, but I'd never been to one until recently. I saw one near where we were staying in the area, so Nate and I stopped in for a quick breakfast before heading back to Grand Rapids. Based on the reviews it seems like this location opened within the last six months, and everything was shiny and new. We arrived right around 9 am on a weekday and there was no wait. I like that you can check on the wait times and join the waitlist on their website. Our server came over right away and brought coffee. They leave a carafe at the table, which is a nice convenience for coffee lovers. We wanted to split something as we didn't need a huge meal, so we went with the market hash and a side of bacon. Our food came out quickly and everything looked amazing. The market hash comes with two cage-free eggs any style over seasoned potatoes, roasted crimini mushrooms, zucchini, shallots, red peppers, baby spinach, melted mozzarella and herbed goat cheese, and is served with whole grain toast. The bacon was a good portion with four thick cut slices. The hash also came with a little fruit cup. The hash was tasty. I really liked the goat cheese as it made everything super creamy and savory. I would have preferred a smaller cut on the potatoes, but all the veggies were fresh and cooked well. The portion was perfect for us to split with the bacon, which was crispy and delicious. I also got the morning meditation juice: orange, lemon, turmeric, organic ginger, agave nectar, and beet. The agave nectar is already added to the juice so you can't request it with less sweetener, just as a heads up. It was pretty sweet but I enjoyed it as a treat. Once you get your bill, you take it up to the counter to pay. Since it wasn't busy when we were there, this wasn't an issue, but I could see it being a bit hectic if it was packed. One main complaint from our visit is that there was a fan near the indoor/outdoor window for the bar looking out onto the patio that was blowing the entire time, so it was super noisy where we were sitting. Overall this is a nice chain with some healthier options. I don't think I'd need to visit First Watch again anytime soon, but it's a nice spot in what seems to be a suburban area with mostly national chains. First Watch is a fast-casual chain with 400+ locations but this location (5 Mile & Beck) is the newest in the area. I don't usually leave reviews for chain restaurants but First Watch is new to the area, so for those who haven't tried one of their other locations, here's my take on this specific site. Food- 5 Stars Everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. I was especially impressed with the fresh quality of the ingredients and thoughtful flavor combinations, which is kinda what they are all about. They've got a lot of options, no matter your dietary needs. They specialize in breakfast, but I went with a lunch option and was impressed. My wife's toast came pre-buttered with a generous amount of butter and while very tasty, if you are watching your calories, make sure to request it on the side. The side of jam was a step up from jam packets at other breakfast places. Atmosphere- 5 Stars I would describe the interior as modern farmhouse with natural tones and an airy vibe. It's casual, but sophisticated. Perfect for an after church meal or brunch with your friends. Service- 4 Stars Our waitress was quick. She was serving a lot of tables and didn't have time to be super memorable, but compared to most similar restaurants, she was well trained and polite. The hostesses greeted us and were professional as well. FYI- your waiter or waitress will give you your bill, but you have to walk up to the front to cash out. Value- 4 Stars I was extremely impressed with the $8.99 you pick 2 combos. Amazing value with that option. The quality of the salad was way more than I expected at this price pint, with chicken, pecans, avocado, and bacon! A much better value than what you could get at Panera across the street. Overall- 5 Stars- it's a step up from the many Metro-Detroit Coney Island breakfast joints in the area, which still have a special place in my heart. I would easily add this location into my rotation for breakfast/brunch spots. Pro Tip 1: We visited on a Sunday and expected a wait, so we joined the waitlist online ahead of time. I highly recommend this because every First Watch I've ever been to usually has a longer than ideal wait. Pro Tip 2: They had a coffee pot on the table with coffee mugs as we sat down. I wouldn't expect coffee to be free, and it isn't. It's $3.49 per person. I'm sure this is an efficient system but it could also be misleading. Had breakfast there today, it wasn't too bad but nothing to write home about. My wife had the Baconado Omelette that she really liked. The potatoes were ok but the toast was excellent, probably the best part of the meal. The "house preserves" are Smuckers, yep sounds a bit deceiving. My chorizo chile omelette was not that great. Almost all onions with the right amount of chilis, but "where's the meat"? I ate 1/3 of it before I encountered a couple of chorizo crumbs. There was MAYBE a tablespoon of chorizo crumbs in the entire omelette and hardly any cheese. It was disappointing at best! They get a 3-star review because of the very nice waitress, the toast, and the omelette my wife had. If it wasn't for that, it would be only 2-stars. I love First watch. They have multiple locations within my area (Northville and Canton) which is really nice, but I typically go the location in Canton. Brunch is always packed and you will be waiting for a seat because they do not allow reservations. BUT, they do allow you to join the waitlist which is really convenient. Because I come here so often, I order the same thing usually which is the the Chickichanga and of course mimosas. The place is loud, but not too loud, the service is usually on point, and the food is affordable if you are looking to eat well and save a few bucks. My family and I enjoy coming here after church and appreciate the friendly and quick service. read more

This was my first time eating at this First Watch location. My friend ordered her usual TriFecta which is 2 eggs, a waffle, and breakfast meat, she chose ham which was thick and delicious. I ordered the market hash with diced potatoes, vegetables, mozzarella and goat cheese and two over easy eggs on top. It would have been so good if only the potatoes hadn't been burnt into what looked like charcoal briquettes. I can't imagine how any chef could possibly take those potatoes off of the grill and think that they were okay to serve. They ruined the entire dish. We were very happy to learn this restaurant has a food allergy guide to all the menu items. The manager and staff were friendly and professional. All our food allergies: fish, (all seafood: shellfish), shrimp, Sesame, peanut, tree nuts, apple, and pear could all be accommodated! As soon as you let the manager and staff know at check in they will give you a QR code to scan which has a pdf of all the allergens in each menu item! The food was fresh and delicious. I loved this place for a good brunch!! It's a relatively new spot, but definitely a must try. It's one of the only real "nicer" brunch areas around the Northville/Plymouth area so the downside is LONG wait times, but totally worth it for a fun brunch with a group of friends or your family. Their menu is quite extensive and has MANY options (which can be a little overwhelming lol, took me a good 10-15 minutes to decide what I wanted) - but I'm a fan of having more options than less. Definitely can accommodate any dietary restrictions! We tried a ton of food, but I got the Turkey Sandwich with a side of Broccoli Cheddar Soup. Right off the bat, it was WAY cheaper than Panera and the soup tasted almost identical! The sandwich was also good and filling as well. The portions they give are quite large which is great because their prices are pretty cheap for the quantity that you're getting. The ambiance of the restaurant is great! Honestly feels like a spot in the middle of a big city, and the service was also good. Our food came out really quickly! Overall, I can definitely say this was one of the best brunch places I've been to in the area, and I will be returning back! In general Bench seats a little hard even with padding. Meals came out warm tasting fine. However never brought out our starter ( million dollar bacon). Our breakfast was supposed to have potatoes didn't come with food to the table and my daughters bowl of fruit, had to be asked for. This is the best run restaurant I have ever been to. The team that works here is so friendly - opening the doors for others and serving excellent food in a timely manner. We have been to other first watch locations and they pale in comparison to this one by forgetting orders, slow kitchens, understaffed teams and lengthy wait times. The ambience is modern farmhouse on the inside and is like something you would see in Florida or California. It's refreshing to find such a gem of a place that doesn't feel like a chain but something truly special because of the excellent service. read more
