I have finally found the best bingsu joint! I had to try the ube bingsu because of the ube ice cream. They claimed they make ube ice cream in-house. They also claim that they make matcha ice cream in-house, I will have to try it next time. I ordered a large ube bingsu to share with my husband. First of all, the presentation of the bingsu was perfect. We figured that the whole bingsu measured to about the size of my husband's hand! As I was taking the bingsu to my table, I was worried that the ice cream would tumble to the floor. It was like an art. I absolutely love the presentation! The ube ice cream scoop was huge. Sitting on top of the perfectly sculpted shaved milk, it was almost too gorgeous to eat. The shaved milk was the correct texture. It came with a ribbon of red bean along the edge of the bowl. I was impressed that the shaved milk was built to the edge of the bowl. The bowl was nicely chilled and was quite deep. I think a large could easily serve 3 people but 2 people was just right for my serving :) There was also red bean around the ice cream. The bingsu also had some shredded coconut, sliced almonds and some sprinkle of ube dust. It was so perfect that I will be using my picture as my wallpaper on my cell :) The best thing about bingsu is that I don't have guilt after eating it. It is just like having a large glass of cold milk with red beans. I think if they also come with some mochi pieces, then it would have been 100% perfect. read more

Very cute feline-centric minimalistic decor with free cat stickers! Along with fresh taiyaki (fish-shaped stuffed bakery), this place specializes in bingsu (finely shave ice-milk dessert). It's like an exotic super fancy refined shaved ice. At $10 to $18 per dish, this was a special occasion treat for us. A large bingsu could easily be shared by 2 or 3 people. We chose the large ube bingsu (did I mention they make their own ube and matcha ice cream) to split. The shaved snow was fluffy and the scoop of ice cream was creamy, flavorful AND ginormous! Given the $s, not your every day dessert.....but a special treat. Since everything seems to be made to order, expect to wait a bit if the shop is busy. Friendly service and a clean space. Delicious dessert hot and cold treats and matcha drinks are very good and authentic. Friendly service and very welcoming, Taiyaki very interestingly is more of a mochi dough like texture than regular waffle dough texture, I could be wrong but it crispy crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside, just enough pull that I thought was eating mochi or dango. I probably wouldn't re-order the ube - with nuts instead of a syrup or fruit, it was a little dry. My friend loved the mango however. The nutella taiyaki was great. They have some wild flavors (pepperoni pizza?!) and also offer a flight which is really fun. They also have a limited drink menu (including redbulls) and ice cream by itself. The interior is quirky and minimal. I loved the hand-painted cat art. It looks like they get busy and may not be able to wipe everything down thoroughly between customers. I got the mango bingsu and honestly, the shaved ice is impossibly light and fluffy, nothing like the icy crunch you'd expect! The toppings are also very generous and tested very fresh! A cute new cafe offering bingsu and taiyaki in portland! We visited on a Saturday night for dessert. The wait was a bit longer, but it's understandable since they are still new. We ordered a large strawberry and mango bingsu (they allowed split flavors on large fruit only orders) as well as the ozzie redbull (strawberry lychee), and matcha. The bingsu was topped with fresh fruit and the ice itself was delicious. Unfortunately, we found that the bottom of the bowl had way too much syrup and it was too sweet. The ozzie tasted like normal redbull, so there was nothing notable about it. I was not a huge fan of their matcha either, as they seemed to skimp on the matcha and overload on milk. Overall, I have high hopes for this new cafe and will definitely be back to try other bingsu flavors and their taiyaki! read more

Came in not knowing what anything was, and so glad we decided to try something new! The gal at the register suggested the ube and mango bingsu, along with Nutella taiyaki. Price seems reasonable for what you get, with a good amount of indoor seats, super cute decor and super friendly staff. Ube and mango bingsu, oh what fond memories I have of you! The ube ice cream on top was so yum, not too sweet and nicely firm, which I preferred so I didn't have to deal with a melty gooey mess. It sat on top of mango chunks and sauce, with coconut and almond flakes, on a bed of shaved fluffy iced (condensed?) milk. It was smooth and silky, like if shaved ice and whipped cream had a baby. It was super light and not sweet thankfully, since the sweetness came from the fruit and ice cream. I'm drooling just reminiscing about it. We took the taiyaki home for the kids and it was delish, even 45mins after being cooked. Still soft and warm on the inside, almost like a cake/cookie stuffed with melty Nutella, shaped like a fish. I'm sure it would have tasted even better after being freshly made. Both desserts were HEAVENLY and I didn't leave me feeling like I gained 10 lbs. Okay, real talk this is a 5/5 for bingsu so I had to give it a full go, but the taiyaki is closer to a 4/5 based on taste and texture. Went by on a weeknight with a friend and snagged a great parking spot just across the street. FYI street parking is typically easy but might be a bit harder on busy days/times. You order at the counter then grab a seat. The interior is bright with cute decor and love the cat theme and merch they have inside. We grabbed a custard taiyaki and the strawberry bingsu (small). The small sized bingsu was definitely enough for 2 people; honestly a good size for 3 even. I think the large would have killed us given our giant dinner beforehand. The entire dessert was delish, not too sweet, and the perfect sweet treat. Sue me but I think frozen desserts taste EVEN better on cold days so this was the perfect fix. Now for the taiyaki, it seemed a tad underdone on the edges and also had a little bit of a bitter aftertaste? I love custard but this one did not hit for me. Perhaps a one off, but did not make me enthused to try another taiyaki. Service was kind; water, utensils, napkins are self serve at the counter. All in all, this is the spot for bingsu, but you may want to skip the taiyaki. I will likely be back for my Korean shaved ice fix. read more

Tsuki is the newest bingsu addition to Portland. They have the cutest black cat theme. There are several tables inside and free water. They have the option to do half & half with the fruit flavors for a large bingsu. The fruit is freshly cut and topped with a scoop of ice cream. They have fruit syrup at the very bottom of the bowl which I wished was drizzled on top instead. Wow. So. Good! We randomly chose this place for our date night dessert out, and it did not disappoint! I'd never had bingsu before - my husband had. We were both really happy with our selections. Ube bingsu and the custard taiyaki were the winners of the night, but the injeolmi bingsu and red bean taiyaki were really good too. I loved how subtly sweet the injeolmi was. It gave a little relief from the sweetness of the ube (which still wasn't over-the-top sweet).
