A cute little froyo joint that has a lot of charm! Tons of flavors and toppings to choose from. We love coming here!

This is an old favorite of ours from living in Portland many years ago, so I have a nostalgia for this froyo shop. When we stopped in, several flavors weren't available and those that were, were hit or miss on texture with some being almost inedibly runny. The frozen flavors were delicious, albeit being limited, and they had a reasonable selection of toppings. The shop was middle of the road on cleanliness and they no longer offer samples, which was disappointing, but the staff were friendly and attentive which was positive. I'd prob lean 3.5 stars. I admittedly miss the old tartberry but am glad they're still around for those nostalgic froyo outings. read more

I opted for just the original tart and mango swirl. I appreciated the variety of toppings but they looked stale and like they had been sitting out for a while. the tart was tasted ok, but severely lacked any tartness. TartBerry is a hidden self-serve yogurt spot on SW 9th. The store is down a small flight of stairs (or ramp) below street level. There are no samples allowed and many signs notifying you of it. Grab a small, medium, or large cup and choose your flavors. The machines are labeled like they have three options, but they have two options and a swirl. The swirl has a custom name which might make you think it's a specific flavor but it's a combination. Without samples, my partner got a flavor with a coconut base which is not his preference. A table of toppings and a cooler of toppings are available. There are a lot of choices, and some do make you wonder when they were set out / if they should be covered. Of course you pay by weight so you may want to be selective. Our two small cups ended up being $20 (! - I guess we weren't selective enough). We sat to eat, and noticed a number of gnats flying around. The decor is quirky - upbeat, bright lime green, but a little chaotic and worn down. Overall I think soft serve yogurt is a fun activity, and makes for a unique custom dessert every time, but the biz could benefit from some changes and a decor refresh. read more

This place was a huge disappointment. Walked in and it felt like a dungeon. It's dark and all you see is the ice cream toppings scattered everywhere. So unorganized. Then you can't sample any flavors... maybe they do it so you have to buy a bowl regardless if it's good or not. The vanilla custard.. had tiny chunks of something in it.. custard like ice cream was missing. The cheesecake flavor was also another disappointment. So many toppings. It was almost overwhelming. Here's the thing... I did not have a bad time. I LOVE ice cold fro yo when it is ice cold outside. I had symphony tickets and discovered that these guys are open until 1030pm, even on Monday nights. It was a cold walk but not a long one as the Arlene Schnitzer is about two blocks away. I am glad I am not alone in craving soft serve when it's cold. I brought a brave vegan friend with me. From my perspective - I was nervous going in and relieved that they do have a ramp that is not horrific to get down. A lot of the older buildings in Portland can be hard on us with mobility challenges. I loved all the happy go lucky post it's and quotes everywhere plus the décor throughout. It was very welcoming and makes you want to sit down and read the fun messages. As I walked by the clerk I asked about samples and she stated that there are absolutely no samples. I then go to the area where the cups are and it says all over that exact thing. She did give me solid advice that if I want vanilla to chose the custard which tastes like a traditional vanilla versus the 'tart' which is very tart and she said people who want vanilla do not tend to like that. I got the vanilla custard, Oreo and the strawberry shortcake. I loved the first two but the strawberry shortcake was so gross and tasted like burnt plastic. I went to look at the toppings. Stale animal cookies were my only selection and not completely terrible but I can't sign off on any of the toppings. I get the impression the toppings are 'vintage'. The sliced bananas were a color I do not want a fresh banana to be and the strawberries were also looking like they had been out a day or four. My vegan friend tried the 3 vegan flavors they have and said the mango was gross. She said the other two were barely edible and her Oreos were VERY stale. How did they earn a 3? They had the sweetest girl running the show, the environment inside as I know this area can get pretty out of hand to where it shocks me anything can stay open after things I have seen myself. I appreciated being able to use a clean bathroom and I also love spots that stay open for us late folks till 1030pm. read more

Seemed like a nice froyo option close to the South Parc blocks. There were a bunch of toppings and a decent number of yogurt flavors. However, there were flies sitting on the topping bar and no one was trying to do anything about it. The floors look a little too beaten up. Just the whole place doesn't seem clean and well-kept. If you're the type of person who comes to a froyo spot for the toppings TartBerry is for you!! They have a limited amount of yogurt flavors but I cannot say the same for the toppings. The best most unique selection I have ever seen. I was a bit disappointed since most of the toppings I got were stale which took away from my creation. But other than that it was really good I would just stick to the non candy or gummy toppings. Overall, cute spot. read more

I often come here to celebrate school events which end upwards of 9pm, when most other places are closed already. I love that they're open late! The service are very nice. The interior atmosphere of the restaurant is really pleasant, there's something so authentic about it. HONESTLY I think it feels like an indoor playground. The food? SOO GOOD. love trying different "stategies" and flavor combinations every time (sometimes it's all of them). And strangely I usually don't get a stomachache after, unlike with most ice cream places. I came here one evening after grabbing dinner at Pastini nearby. I've always seen this fro-yo shop and never went in, but after hearing good reviews about it from a friend, I decided to check it out. Inside, the shop is actually a lot larger than you would expect. Although I loved the kind messages and cute little notes everywhere, the store didn't seem very kept up. With overwhelming green walls and lights not working properly (constantly flashing), my experience eating fro-yo there wasn't the best. In addition, the fro-yo itself was not very good quality. It was very runny, not very flavorful (tasted mostly like ice) and the area where toppings were kept did not seem to be consistently monitored for sanitary reasons (so many toppings were spilled out). Overall, I thought the place alright but I personally did not have a great dining experience here. read more

Unfortunately, no no no. I should've turned around after walking into this place but we proceeded since we couldn't find another option nearby. What immediately threw me off was that none of the fruits were adequately covered and I could tell that the other items looked dried out and withered. I tried avoiding the fruit but got a few other toppings like popping boba, cookie dough, and cheesecake. Admittedly the cheesecake looked awful but I hoped it'd be fine. I don't think it's a coincidence that I caught a stomach bug the very next day. I hadn't eaten anything new or drastically different during our trip and could only think that this sketchy looking place is what caused my bug. Perhaps it's better when they immediately open and things are fresh, but we came during the evening. The space itself is pretty tacky looking, the floors are beat up, and overall just didn't strike me as a very clean or hygienic place. Compare to SF ( where I live) that all the frozen yogurt shops are so small , this place was so huge . And it was like you walk in to a art shop . I loved it . I recently moved to Portland and was being shown a few good spots. Thought the store was pretty neat and I loved the selections they had available. Before being allowed to pay for everything, and after already getting my ice cream. When my friend and I were literally about to pay, and discussing all of the neat options available, next thing I know, I have 3 security guards telling us that we need to put down the ice cream and leave. That we were being "refused service". There was a man that I take it is the owner, stating to me that he "recognized" me, and that I had bee. in there before!? I told him that was impossible and he was mistaken, but he just told me he knew he wasn't. I cant believe this!! I am appauled!! Maybe you should be more respectful to customers and not judge or scrutinize them. Just horrible!! read more

So when I used to live in Portland downtown I used to go to this frozen yogurt ALL the time lol the owners were so so nice But after 6-7 years we can't to visit and it was different The inside was not as keep up as I remember but the main thing was the frozen yogurt it was so so runny and not the right texture and trust me I have had a lot of frozen yogurt to know lol I got my son the non dairy pineapple and I got my favorite the non fat chocolate They tasted good but like I said it came out of the machine runny and like it was melted I'm so so curious of it's different owners read more

I have not been to a lot of froyo shops in Portland but so far tartberry has had the most toppings available that I have ever seen in a froyo shop. Five stars for that. I typically just like the basic flavors of froyo so I do not know if their selection of flavors were abundant or not. read more

Tartberry? More like fartberry! I used to work across the street from Fartberry and go there at least once a week. I hadn't been in years (probably 2016) and decided to take a trip down memory lane and stop in. This place has gone down hill! First off, the flavors on the website are not accurate with what's in store. This was a disappointment but I could have gotten over it. My biggest complaint was the smell, the sticky unclean tables, and the old toppings I didn't feel comfortable eating. Most of the toppings looked they had been sitting out for a really long time. The banana slices were mushy and brown - probably sliced days prior. And the cheesecake bites (my favorite topping) were yellow, discolored, and hardened. I get that this place is probably slower with the lack of traffic in downtown, but they charge exorbitant prices (almost 2x as much per ounce than other places) and then serve toppings that are questionable to eat. I decided to be safe and just do hot fudge and some m&m's but even the hot fudge tasted burnt and like it had been sitting on the heater element for who knows how long. $20 later and I ended up throwing it out after a few bites because it was just horrible. Wow! Great assortment of froyo and toppings. Interior is one of a kind decorated with happy vibes decor. A little overwhelming at first. Ask for free sample cups. Dole whip is amazing! You need to stop by TartBerry just for the decor! It was bright, cheery, airy, open, and fun and there were inspirational quotes everywhere on the walls. Such a fun place to eat and work. On top of that, there were so many toppings! I've never seen so many options in terms of type of boba toppings, fruit, pretzels, candy, mochi, cheesecake bites, and more. Service was quick and great. THIS PLACE IS SO ADORABLE!!!! The wall of customized sticky notes, the bicycle seats, murals on the walls, things hanging off the ceiling, ALL OF IT is so so cute. There was more than just fro yo, but I didn't get a picture of it, pretty sure it had coffee, tea, ice cream, etc. As for the froyo itself, the flavors where pretty limited, but super yummy! There were a couple dairy free flavors and some rly nice combos such as peaches and cream! The topping bar was soooo huge and nice too, they had so many options and all of my favs. If you're going for super high quality and incredible fro yo, this might not be the place for you, but if you're going for the vibes, I would highly recommend. read more

Patting ourselves on the back for eating a vegan dinner, Jamie W. and I decided to hunt for something sweet on the way back to our hotel. Otherwise we were willing to pilfer the complimentary Pepperidge Farms Milanos left in the lobby for guests. I hope the security camera didn't catch me tipping the cookie tray into my backpack. Anyway, we luckily found this colorful spot, and lo and behold, they had Dole Pineapple Whip on a self-serve spigot. Now I wasn't even aware of this tantalizing treat until I had it with my friends Carlos and Stephanie down in the San Jose area. I must have missed it in Disneyland where I was probably gorging on something even more decadent like a Mickey Mouse-shaped funnel cake. For some reason, the whip is really hard to find outside of an amusement park. Only one Outer Mission shop (Pineapples) carries it in San Francisco (review: http://bit.ly/2nHb4V3). It's nonfat, non-dairy vegan, so it continued my vegan trend.
