There are a few places in Portland to find vegan soft serve but today I finally tried Ice Queen and it was 10 out of 10! From a classic vanilla, swirl or chocolate soft serve in a cone or a cup, paletas, to their "Thiccflurry" options with all of the vegan toppings you could want, I have found my go to ice cream shop. Cute little shop, small inside but has tables inside and outside to sit and enjoy your treat there. Service was quick, staff were friendly but busy around 4pm on a Sunday. read more

I like Ice Queen. They make handcrafted vegan paletas. They started from a literal hand-pushed cart and have grown to a brick and mortar. The storefront is on SE 11th; you can find neighborhood free street parking. It's a small shop with just a couple tables to sit at. Their paleta flavors are quite unique, from mangonada to oatchata, strawberry to chocolate, jamaica to piña colada, coconut to coffee, to seasonal flavors. Theyre $4.50 for one and 12 for $45. It's kinda hard to say whether that's pricey or not, but I feel like it's cheaper and smaller than a regular ice cream so you can get a couple flavors. They also have milkshakes, frozen bananas, other drinks, what they call "Thiccflurries," and some grab-and-go items like candy/stickers. read more

I got the thiccflurry create my own. I did chocolate/vanilla mix as my base. I added chocolate chips and chick o stick as my mix in. Delicious!! I was in heaven and really hit the spot overall. Surprisingly delicious plant-based treats--this place nails it! Everything here is plant-based, but you honestly wouldn't know it. I ordered the oatchata paleta with a half chocolate dip, and it was so good--creamy, flavorful, and totally satisfying. You'd never guess it wasn't traditional horchata. The paletas are reasonably priced at around $4-$5, and the chocolate dip was just $1 extra for a half. The decor is quirky in the best way--creative, fun, and full of personality. It adds to the charm and makes the space feel welcoming. There isn't a ton of seating inside, just a couple of small tables, but most people seem to grab their treats to go. There are also benches right outside the exit if you want to hang out for a bit. Just a heads-up: parking is street-only. They also offer soft serve, which I didn't try this time--but it's definitely on my list for next visit. The staff were super friendly and happy to answer our questions, which made the experience even better. I'll absolutely be coming back to try more flavors. This was a very interesting experience. I haven't been to a strictly vegan ice cream or Paleta shop(for that matter)ever. So I was very curious to try what I saw. I had the Chai PNW Pear with peanut Mázapan as a topping. At first when I tasted the Paleta i had thought it was a bit too sweet and that the chai flavor overwhelmed the pear, but once I got further in and made sure to get bites with the peanut it ready was tasty. The shop is cute and a bit small but really highlights the products. I enjoyed the Paleta, my only thought is that the consistency was *quite* icy and I do prefer a bit more of a smooth consistency. When it was our turn the order the girl taking orders asked if we had been helped. She just helped the people in front of us so it was obvious we hadn't. She asked us what we wanted and we tell her two sundae's but there was no menu. So I asked if they had a menu with the flavor options. She looked annoyed at the question and she told us it was up on the screen. There was nothing on the screen. She walked away and turned it on. We put in our orders went to check out and the girl there asked us what we ordered again. So we repeat it and she charged us. It smelled pretty bad in the shop, bleachy cleaning supplies and BO so we waited outside. I wasn't sure what was taking so long since we didn't order anything that took long to make and the paletas are ready to go. Other people were getting their orders so my boyfriend went inside to inquire about our orders and they asked what we ordered again. He repeated the order, they walked away then came back and asked another time. Then I went back inside because it had been a while and still nothing. They asked our order again and I repeated it, this was 5th time. They said our order had gotten lost. They bring us part of the order then ask a 6th time for one of the sundae's, it was pretty simple, soft serve swirl with two toppings. Nothing crazy. Sadly the pina colada paleta was not very sweet at all. Tasted like a unripened pineapple with a hint of coconut and our sundae's were hollow in the center. The soft serve did taste good though. His daughter said it was a rip off and we agreed. Lol We were pretty disappointed in the entire experience, from the products to the customer service. Especially for the price. My boyfriend kept thanking them because he didn't want them to feel bad. But they weren't really apologetic about the situation. One of the girls was new and it very clearly wasn't her fault that they don't have a good system or good leadership in place to handle situations like this. Great spot for sweet treats. I've tried the lime and jamaica mango flavors of paletas, and while the lime was refreshing, the jamaica mango was fantastic. I would get that one again, along with some of the others that I didn't get to try last time. Stopped by this appealing shop after dinner during PDX trip. Can't say I've tried vegan ice cream bars before, but my Oatchata bar was enjoyable (I am a sucker for horchata). Not as creamy rich as with dairy, but after all the eating done during the trip, it's good to take it easy on the extra fats. Kid was looking for his usual cookies n cream version, but they had run out, which made him sad and pout, lol. Lady offered to add the cookies topping for him to any bar he chose, what quick thinking and great service! While vegan ice cream can't be as good as the paletas with dairy, this seems like a great treat for those who prefer vegan. I'm guessing the non-dairy would have it's advantage on being more refreshing on a hot day, especially in the fruit flavors. read more

Yummy! While going to get a popsicle in the middle of fall may be weird to some, it hit the spot for me. I got the sour green apple popsicle with coconut caramel, and it hit the spot. The staff was very polite and friendly. The shop is a bit small, bit there is seating inside and out or you can get walk around the area. There is a park not too far away you can always go to. I will say this is one of those areas where parking is a bit of a chore but not super hard. read more

The owner always decorates the shop so cute, I love seeing the progression of the Halloween decorations every year! I have a sticker on one of my reusable cups and got another one for my water bottle I saw a review mentioning how one employee ruins the experience and I think I know who they are talking about. They just seem quiet to me and for all you know they are shy. It's not like they're rude, just doing their job. Such a gorgeous beautiful shop inside and out and like, pristinely clean 2. The employees and owner are just the best humans ever 3. The ice cream choices are SO GOOD. ugh. i was so disappointed with this :( ice queen had been on my list for sooo long. i wanted so badly to love this place & support a chicana owned business but sadly the food wasn't it for me :/. i got the s'mores thiccflurry and subbed the graham crackers for oreos. the base was sooooo overly sweet and a very odd sludge/gummy texture. the vanilla flavor wasn't very potent either. just sugary. and i really do love sweet stuff, but it was so sweet. the chocolate shell too kinda just seemed like melted chocolate chips or something- a little too rich and just sweet as well. customer service was nice however- and i would go back to maybe try a paleta. such a bummer, with tip mine was $13.20. i could barely eat any before having to toss it. wasted food and money ‍ read more

What better way to cool down on a summer night than with plant based ice cream bars? Say whaaaaat. After seeing a bunch of people walking down the street with these bars we had to stop by and give it a go. During this time they had some cute decor inside the place which is quite small. Basically a small window where you place your order and take to go. Simple menu with some specials - this time kept it classic with a partners & cream and then try something new with the mangonada flavor. Both were good sized bars and being plant based it will taste slightly different from what you may be used to but not in a bad way! The partners & cream is similar to your cookies & cream and has full sized oreos in the bar. Great if you want more creamy of a treat. The mangonada flavor had a nice kick and more like a sorbet type of texture if you prefer that. In addition to being plant based they are also woman owned and make their bars in small batch. This summer, my friend and I were looking for a ice cream shop in the area that we had just eaten in, and stumbled upon Ice Queen! I don't think I have ever had 100% plant based ice cream before, so I was so down to try something new. I'm really glad I did! First of all, this spot is the CUTEST. It's literally a hole on the side of a building, that is painted with vibrant colors around the walk up window itself. I love the 'Ice Queen' written in silver and hot pink accents on the siding. My friend and I got the Mangonada and Strawberries & Cream (I think that's what it was called, and it was not on their regular menu). Both were so creamy but really flavorful and refreshing! You can tell that the owner puts a lot of heart and thought into each flavor. They were very friendly and helped us choose the perfect one to get that day, when we were so indecisive and had a time deciding. I got two collab flavors (carrot orange w Drink Mamey, vanilla rose w Jerusalem Rose Market) and two of the limited run flavor, Passion of Lovers (raspberry and chocolate). They were all so smoothe and delicious. Big flavor, super fresh! Highly recommend. My *only* complaint is that the sticks are really thin. I saw the hashtag for Ice Queens, and it just so happened to be about a half a mile away, which is great for a nice little walk during the pandemic. Truth be told, I was a little hesitant to give this place a try because it's in the 'vegan district' (as I call it) in Portland and vegan food is not, typically, my cup of tea. Nothing against it, just nothing FOR it, y'know? But, that's not going to stop me from trying everything I can. I walked in and bought a few pops, I can't remember the name, and the menus are SUPER elusive to find online, but I got a mango pop, a pina colada pop, and a classic fudsicle. Honestly, the pina colada pop and the mango pop left a lot to be desired. They both were odd tasting to me. I think the mango one was supposed to be a mango-margarita concoction, so a lick left a salty taste on the tongue, which some might dig. The Pina Colada pop, which is a wonderful flavor of mine, just didn't taste like the 'pina colada' I know and love, I can't even really describe what it tasted like, once again, not my cup of tea. So, why did this place get 3 stars instead of 1-2? Firstly, I can't give this quaint little place a bad review, I don't know the owner(s), but you can tell this place runs on love. Secondly?
