This ended up being near the airbnb and the restaurant I was at with my friends during a short trip to Portland aka how I ended up going back twice within 24 hours. I love how they have familiar and unfamiliar flavors. Also appreciated the ability to sample their flavors. I really enjoyed their flavors. The first time around I ended up choosing saffron pistachio because something about it really popped compared to kunafa to me. The second time I went with pandan because in the sample, the pandan really stood out to me. I think I ended up liking it less than the saffron pistachio in the end but it was still a good ice cream. It seems like the lines here come and go. It was really busy the first time near closing but after an earlier dinner at eem, there wasn't a line. Amazing ice cream spot with quality flavors that are simply delicious. No need for unusual flavors or combinations to bait you in. What was amazing is there are some great South Asian flavors that just work in ice cream. 100% will come back and the staff is so friendly. This place is so worth the hype! We stopped by Kulfi around 6pm and it was definitely busy, but the staff was super friendly and made sure everyone was taken care of. You can tell they really care about giving every guest a good experience. Service was amazing! They let us sample a bunch of flavors before we made our final picks, and honestly, it was hard to choose because everything was so unique and delicious. The staff told us all about how the owner is super meticulous about flavor and texture, and won't serve a batch unless it's just right. You can taste that level of care in every bite. We ended up getting split scoops of: Kunafa + Saffron Pistachio: it was creamy, rich, and we loved the pieces of pistachio Kaapi Stracciatella + Chai Chai: it had a bold coffee flavor and the pieces of chocolate were well distributed, and the chai had a perfect spice balance. "Kulfi" is an Indian Frozen desert. This place was brought up by 2 first generation south Asians searching for flavors from home. Such as I. This is walking distance from the hospital where our Baby is currently admitted. And during our walk, we stumbled upon this gem. The service was amazing! We got to sample lots of the different flavors but we have to go with Ube and Mango Coconut as our favorites. The Kulfi is hand made in the shop and the flavors are TO DIE FOR! The ube is spot on to how I remember it as a kid and just like the magnolia version. I wanted to take a whole gallon. The mango coconut tasted like fresh mangos that were cut straight from the tree. It definitely took me back. I wanted to whole tub of it. Now here's the best part- they both go great together too! Will return to try their falooda's which is a Mughlai cold dessert with vermicelli. I was so excited to discover an ice cream joint with a wide selection of flavors, especially popular Asian-flavors! The scoops are very generous and much appreciated. The chai ice cream has a perfectly strong taste of chai that isn't disarming nor diluted as an ice cream. The ube on the other hand is milder as ube naturally is but it is still very rich. They informed me that the name of this place is popular in India. Now they did say there's an American twist on it of course to fit the means of the culture around us but man this place tastes amazing and pistachios are very popular in India I guess and it's implemented in the ice cream so I tried the Indian coffee with pistachio and chocolate and it was just a little crunchy and so satisfying. I was excited to find another unique ice cream spot in my 'hood!--and Kulfi kinda blew my mind. The base, is on point--no greasy lips, no weird icy texture, it's damn good ice cream. The flavors were unique, DELICIOUS, non pretentious, and balanced. I was blown away by the ube (it tasted like ube!), the coffee ice cream tasted like a great cappuccino, the caramel ice cream was perfect (better than Salt and Straw's--and I love theirs), the golden milk honeycomb was out of this world, and the mango was creamy and delightful!
