When this place first opened their smoothies were great- especially the High Tide. The bowls are consistent; however, I went 2 weeks ago with my friend and we both ordered the High Tide smoothie. As I started drinking mine I noticed it was more like a slushy than a smoothie. Whoever made it really screwed it up and put so much ice it literally tasted like water with some chunks of coconut inside and my friend's was the same. Should we have gone back and asked them to remake the drinks? Maybe. But we had already waited about 10 minutes for the drinks to be made since it was busy and didn't want to wait longer for the staff to redo it. Maybe the employee who made our drinks was new and in training? Anyways we ended up throwing our smoothies (slushies) away and going to Erewhon for smoothies instead. This was quite disappointing because I had always loved stopping by there for a drink on a hot day and supporting a local business. This has been an açai place that I've always wanted to try for a long time. I've only was able to check it out while I was in the area. I love that they have a bunch of toppings that you can choose from when you build your own bowl and several types of base that you can select from as well. Depending on the bowl size that you purchase is a number of layers of bases that you can select from. Small or medium is usually perfect for me. They are very attentive, and if you don't know what type of bowl you like, they also have preset bowls and smoothies that you can select from as well. Ordered Doordash and it arrived in ~30 min or so Got the "Custom Craft Bowl" - medium size (16 oz) for $15 and I had the option to choose up to 4 bases, granolas, and unlimited toppings! There were so many bases to choose from! For the bases, I got the Acai, Matcha Chia Pudding and Ube. The Acai was tarty and not too very sweet. The Matcha Chia pudding was delicious! The bowl consisted of acai, seamoss, blue majik, coconut yogurt, hemp granola, blueberries, papaya, blackberries, mango, kiwi, coconut, hemp hearts, flax seeds, date honey, and blue spirulina. Excellent new açaí bowl spot for us here in Monrovia! Our build-your-own bowls were fantastic, staff were enthusiastic and friendly, location convenient, and everything was so fresh and so clean! They have quite an extensive menu of smoothies and açaí bowls with tons of different base flavors for the bowls, including various açaí bases as well as chia pudding bases and oats or even sea moss! And according to their website, everything is organic and they use Brazilian açaí. I opted for two small build-your-own bowls - smalls come with three choices for a base and it was fun to figure out what would go well together. Both of our build-your-own bowls had the coconut and mango bases, but I got one with the ube base (which the staff recommended) and one with the pitaya (dragonfruit) base. Both were great and the ube was a fantastic recommendation! Once you pick your bases, then you head over to the fruit and toppings bar and tell them what all you'd like to add - and toppings are unlimited!! Impressively generous! For both bowls, I got honey almond granola, pineapple, mango, blueberries, a little cacao syrup, toasted coconut, and sunflower seeds. I was very impressed with how clean and organized all the toppings were - and the whole store really. Everything was super fresh and the flavors all meshed together so well. Decided to grab a quick smoothie from this location since I usually go to the Claremont one. I placed a mobile order through their app, but when I arrived, the drink wasn't ready--it was just sitting there on the printer. The staff said they had just received it, which was confusing. I told them no worries, I'll wait. But when my smoothie was finally handed to me, I politely said thank you--and the staff member didn't even acknowledge me. She turned her face and walked away. Minus two stars as well as my business for the foreseeable future for not providing nutritional information. Not only is it not published, it's not available upon request. While this smoothie "feels" like it may be higher quality than others nutritionally, there is no way to confirm that. Also, the protein they use only has 11g protein per scoop. For a $10 smoothie, that's not sufficient. Compare this to the Nuts About Protein at Robeks that has 34g. I liked papaya and kiwi as options, as I don't see those fruits at most other places. The PB wasn't as sweet as other places, and that's my fav part of the whole experience, but it was still good. They have a lot of base options here that I don't see frequently elsewhere. We were too overly cautious to try any of those (both just had açaí), but you can do up to 3 in a small, which is cool. We have visited TRUBowl a few times now. The acai and toppings are fresh and tasty. The store appears clean and well-maintained. The service, however, can be hit or miss. We have had great service here and we've had pretty bad service. During our worst experience, the young employees were not only dismissive and rude, but they were playing VERY inappropriate music that included curse words and sex. I tried the Acai Zero, which is Acai sweetened with dates, and it tasted just like regular acai! My family of 6 tried a variety of bases and toppings and we liked everything! The guys behind the counter were very helpful, offered samples and answered our questions.
