Dear Maru Espresso Bar Team, I'm writing because I had a very disappointing experience at Maru on 9/23/26 especially as someone who has been a loyal customer and goes out of my way to purchase your coffee despite not even being a coffee drinker. Maru's Cream Top is actually the only coffee I drink. Because I start work very early--before Maru opens--I have developed a routine of coming in the day before, purchasing two Cream Tops, having them made without ice and with heavy cream, taking them home, refrigerating them overnight, and bringing them with me to work the following morning. It is extremely inconvenient for me to have to make a special trip before 5 p.m., carry two drinks home, and plan around your hours, but I do it because I genuinely love the coffee. Over the past few days, however, I have had several frustrating interactions with the staff regarding this very simple request. Two days ago, I went in after work and was told by the young woman taking my order that the Cream Top could not be made without ice. Yesterday, I was unable to come in because I got off work too late. Today, I stopped by during lunchtime and ordered my coffee with ice because I was drinking it immediately, and I also purchased a pastry. Later, after work, I returned specifically to purchase two Cream Tops to take home for the next morning. I again asked for them without ice. I was told no. I even asked in Korean after seeing Korean-speaking staff, trying to explain exactly why I needed them without ice. Despite explaining the situation, I continued to receive pushback rather than any effort to accommodate a longtime customer. Because I had to transport the drinks home, I also asked for a coffee carrier that would securely hold the drinks. The employee gave me a different type of tray. I specifically asked if he could give me the carrier that more securely holds the cups because, as I explained to all three employees, I had to take the drinks home and was concerned about them spilling. I was told that you had run out and that this was the only carrier available. Unfortunately, the result was exactly what I had been trying to prevent. There was an excessive amount of ice, and somehow the drinks melted and spilled all over the bag I was carrying them in. I have never had a coffee spill all over my bag like this before. What was most upsetting was not simply that the drinks spilled. It was the overall attitude and lack of willingness to help. I understand that businesses have policies and that there may be operational reasons for certain things, but the way a reasonable customer request is communicated matters. I was not asking for anything complicated or unreasonable. I was simply trying to purchase the same coffee I regularly buy in a way that allows me to safely take it home and drink it the next morning. I really love Maru's coffee, which is why I continue to make the effort to come back despite the inconvenience. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and speak with the team about customer service, communication, and finding reasonable solutions for customers rather than simply pushing back on requests. I would appreciate hearing from someone regarding this experience, particularly because I would like to continue being a Maru customer but do not want to have another experience like this.

It's one of those spots that catches your attention before you even know what they're serving. The only thing keeping it from five stars for me is the pricing. With items starting around $9+, it's definitely on the expensive side for what you're getting. Everything we tried was genuinely delicious, though, so the quality is absolutely there.
