Trufa is one of those cool confident laid back spots that somehow runs like a tiny culinary command center. The place is small but not cramped and they use every inch wisely. Inside is my preferred move since the outside area is high traffic but you will always find a few brave souls happily dining at the two or three outdoor tables no matter the weather. The kitchen sits right in the middle of the action and the team works like a calm SWAT unit trained in gourmet precision. You order your food and it comes out in perfect time and the wild part is everything here tastes good. Truly everything. Most dishes run around sixteen to twenty dollars, unless you feel like leveling up to their specials which are worth every penny. I have had the meatball sandwich, the Truffle Burger with Swiss cheese and French fries Provencal plus other burgers like the Hamilton and California. All excellent. The pasta too. Lovely and cozy Italian restaurant. It feels like a hole-in the wall, there is very limited seating and it's very casual inside. The staff are extremely friendly, and service was fast. Chief Edwardo is Talented!!!!! I was starving and did not want to cook so I went to Trufa on Wednesday, 8/24/22, and ordered the Chicken Parm with mixed veggies. Well I was impressed!!!! The Chicken was crispy and delicious with sauce on top and cheese. The veggies where cooked to perfection and sauteed with garlic and Oh-- do I love garlic. It was lunch time on a weekend, and I was in the mood for salmon. After looking through my options on UberEats, I found Trufa restaurant and the salmon sandwich that it offered. I decided to give this a try, and waiter the 30 minutes for my food to be delivered. The sandwich came in ciabatta bread, and included avocado and veggies. There was a green salad and some dressing. The sandwich was decent in taste, as was the salad. It left me feeling satisfied. I went to Trufa for a meeting with my mentor. I didn't know what to expect because of the mixed reviews. I wanted the crab cake but I don't think it was on the menu. So I chose the blackened salmon with spaghetti and marinara sauce. My God, it was hot, hearty and very delicious. The portion was also very generous. We had the avocado salad as an appetizer which equally as delicious. The ingredients were very fresh and green. Last, we had the tiramisu for dessert. I have had tiramisu before but I was blown away by the taste, light, creamy with a touch of cacao and coffee. Definitely coming back with a friend or family member. We sat down outdoors so I can't say other than inside is small. The staff was friendly when it was 11am. Before that, those who we met just said they are not open. Did you say Brunch All Week??? Oh I'm Down for Sure! A cozy little restaurant which in any other circumstances would be take out only. However with the lay out they seem to make it work with 7 table tops for two. In one area those table can be combined to accommodate a larger group. Nonetheless they have a 7day Brunch menu that looks pretty decent as well as their regular menu is nothing to turn your nose up at either. No bar or drink menu available but red/white sangria or wine and mimosas can be ordered. The service was great you and can virtually see your food being prepared from almost every seat in the house. Food was nicely prepared and really tasty. Salmon and Eggs a spin on Steak and Egg was a nice touch for those who don't eat meat. My cousin and I order the same dish with a sub of salads for the home-fries. A bit a food envy on my part I must admit, because her House salad looked better than my Caesar but it was still good. So Came in for a late night and staff welcomed us. The red pasta name begins with an O and while it was tomato flavored, it wasn't too much plus a hint of cream. The white clear sauce pasta tasted like chicken broth flavored. All was incredibly delicious and I would say this is a hidden gem in this neighborhood. Highly recommend! Have been here countless times and this is definitely a gem! Fried calamari here is crispy, juicy, and piping hot. Their seafood risotto is delicious (dine in), as is the chicken Marsala. The portion is huge too for the dinner entrees, as my full size chicken Marsala came with a side pasta. Not sure if this could be considered a restaurant I think a diner/dive is more appropriate. That isn't an insult btw. This is a small place with only 5-6 tables. Prob not the best for big groups but we only had 2 of us. As for the food, it was pretty solid. I liked the omellette with the side salad. It had a great dressing on the salad. The omellette was freshly made and had a fluffy texture to it. The toast however was pretty tough to eat since it was hard. They serve brunch until 3pm even on the weekdays which was a welcome surprise. I liked my lunch at Trufa's. It is a nice cozy restaurant and the service is solid too. Long overdue review but still appalled it happened. STAY AWAY if you have ANY allergies. This place is lucky I didn't report them or take them to COURT for giving me food I stated I am allergic to. Lesson learned, next time I will. I ordered back in January because I came with my grandmother in person, I was going to leave an amazing review for their dedication to my allergies and how delicious the food was. But when I did takeout I had a different experience. I expressed I am allergic to gluten (they have gluten free pasta) and garlic which they said was no issue before. I called in the order and explained Grubhub did not put my allergies so I told them over the phone. The person on the phone (who states he was the manager later.. very shocking) states he understood. Gluten free pasta, no garlic or onion. I confirmed 2/3 times. He understood. When I got my order it had regular gluten pasta and pieces of garlic in it. When I called and was appalled cus I had already taken a bite and didn't realize it was messed up, he GASLIT me and stated that he "doesn't remember me saying that" and he "would've remembered". I stated that he confirmed with me at least twice about the allergy and he kept arguing with me. After back and forth he offered a refund and to make another BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. Absolutely appalling. Not only did they POISON me, but tell me I had to PAY to have my order fixed, let alone the fact the MANAGER argued with me. Phone calls are RECORDED, if I wasn't going through something else I would've had this escalated. Absolutely negligent and disgusting behavior. Shame on you. read more

Walking my pup a few weeks back I decided to stop by for a drink because they had a beautiful cozy out door area that was perfect for what I was looking for (it's harder then you think to find dog friendly restaurants in Harlem) I was so surprised to see they had my favorite beer on the menu...Peroni!! So I obviously had to order one right away lol and then I moved on to the Sangria which was light but really refreshing and fresh. The server was so sweet and AMAZING!!! He brought waster out for my pup and checked on us every few minutes. I decided to stay and invite a friend and we ordered the Crab cakes to start with which were seasoned well and the breading was crispy and light. Really yummy! We both ordered two different pastas, I had the black squid ink pasta with sea food... sooo yummy! The flavors were so fresh and they weren't cheap with the seafood portions . Intimate space with a commitment to quality when it comes to food. I've been ordering from here for 2 years now after passing it up and it's become a go to favorite for me. The pasta is top notch (I prefer the orecchiette) the clam chowder is the best in nyc and carpaccio was amazing. The crab cakes were always on point and the brunch menu is exciting as well. Worst delivery and food I've ever had. - Took 90 minutes for food to arrive, so of course it was cold when it came. - Sandwich came with slices of dark brown ROTTEN avocado, so the major plus of the sandwich had to be scraped off. - The crab cakes didn't include chipotle mayo (as advertised), they gave salad dressing instead. I just moved to the neighborhood (literally late last night) and was starvin' Marvin'. Unwilling to unpack (I need *AT LEAST* 6-10 months for that, come on!) I quickly Yelped nearby vegan options. Luckily I found Trufa, who has many omnivorous and vegan / vegetarian dishes alike! We ordered pick-up, and drudged our way through back pain and muscle aches the grueling three blocks from my house. Upon arriving, we notice it has a very nice interior, elegant and quaint. Apologizing to the server, I ask if we can eat there instead, but were totally fine with eating off the to-go containers (explaining I just moved). She politely and enthusiastically sat us and re-plated our food beautifully maintaining a polite and pleasant attitude. We ordered the portobello mushroom burger with pesto, red onions, lettuce -sans avocado on a toasted multigrain (had option for a sprouted brioche I believe?) which also came with a side of fries. Second dish, which I had more than my fair share of was gnocchi and mushrooms in a house-made red sauce (originally with beef, we ordered without + extra mushrooms instead). Just had dinner at this brand-spanking-new restaurant and I was so impressed that I decided to come home and immediately write a Yelp review. HOORAY FOR TRUFA! Ordered a glass of wine and the "Trufa Burger" (10 oz. Black Angus patty with truffle aioli et al). I would have had a hard time finishing that on its own, but to make matters even more filling, the super-nice owner/manager kept bringing me complimentary appetizers. Clearly he is very eager to get to know his first batch of customers and build some loyalty amongst them, and I certainly appreciated and admired those efforts. But boy am I full right now! Seriously, I can barely move. Oof. Anyway, everything I ate was really delicious. The menu has a wide range of modern American and Italian-inspired dishes, from pastas to seafood and salad to sandwiches. It's similar in many ways to Tonalli (in fact I suspect that they might be run by the same people), so if you like that restaurant you should like this place as well. I was particularly floored by the line at the bottom of the menu that states, "Trufa Restaurant is proud of using free range chicken and meats and all organic products." Ferreals? Based on my experience eating at the restaurant, I'd give Trufa four stars (taking one off only for service that was a bit lagging considering we were one of only two tables). The food is simple but nicely prepared and presented at prices only slightly higher than what you'll find at a diner. I had a taste tonight for their French fries Provençal (which bowled me over on my previous visit), but Blizzard Jonas left me feeling under the weather so I decided to order in. The portobello mushroom burger listed on the Seamless menu (I'll post a pic) clearly states that the sandwich comes with French fries Provençal. But when my order arrived... no, they were just plain, limp, naked fries, miserable in their lack of adornment. Figuring it to be a mistake, I promptly called Trufa, only to be told that sandwiches don't come with the Provençal fries (lies, I tell you! they came with the salmon sandwich I had last month). I politely informed the staff member that the Seamless menu lists otherwise only to be issued a curt "it's wrong" and then a shockingly harsh dial tone. Seamless took care of me, of course, but I remain French fries Provençal-less, which is even worse off than I was before ordering. At least then I didn't have the disappointment of expecting them and receiving, instead, their bare, forlorn cousins. read more

I think it is finally time for me to update my review almost 2 years later. This has become my favorite hidden gem spot in Harlem. In the past it has been hit or miss occasionally with them. Something changed for the better in this restaurant, and I am thankful. They are spot on all the time. It's a charming small spot that has about 8 tables give or take that has exposed brick. So clearly this is not a place you bring large parties. This is good spot to come with another person or to dine alone, which I do pretty often here.
