The food at The Edge Harlem was quite good and the service was great as well. My friend and I ordered the spicy shrimp with mango slaw and jerk alfredo with chicken to share. The spicy shrimp was tasty albeit for the price I expected more shrimp. The jerk alfredo with chicken was very good as well and quite heavy- a contrast to the spicy shrimp where you definitely get more than enough food. The drinks are where The Edge fell flat as first and foremost there's a disclaimer that all of the cocktails are wine-based. I don't exactly know how a rum punch or ginger margarita can be wine based and my thoughts checked out after I had both drinks. Did they taste bad? No, but they definitely tasted off. Was in the neighborhood visiting a friend and decided to grab Saturday brunch and found The Edge. This menu is Jamaican inspired but also offers other more standard brunch entrees with Caribbean flair. I had a traditional Jamaican breakfast of ackee (look it up) and saltfish (weekends only) with festival (fried sweet dumplings) sauteed kale and it was yummy. Topped that off with their signature 580 cocktail and you'll be happy for the rest of the day. Ate at the bar and bartender was very attentive. Late brunch and was seated quickly. The Edge BLT with avocado and jerk chicken was fulfilling and satisfying on top of the food, the Bartendar made a "ginger sparkling margarita" that was to die for . the Atmosphere is a " Harlem" but it also reminded me of southern hospitality . The establishment is cozy . Good for a group of 6 or less in my opinion however I'm a bar girl . I will pull up a stool quick . Went to The Edge for a family brunch during a weekday. It was so nice to be there when there weren't too many people. We got a great spot next to a sunny window, the staff were so incredibly nice and the owners as well. We ordered three coconut crusted fish burgers, a lamb burger, a kale salad, the curry chicken with rice and the jerk salmon caesar salad. We also ordered a couple of chai lattes, a mocha latte and some sorrel. Overall, the meal was incredible, everything tasted fresh and the portion sizes are very satisfying. The fish burger definitely has a bit of sweetness from the coconut and the fish was so flaky and juicy. The fries are fantastic. They were so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I didn't expect the kale salad to be as robust and gorgeous as it was but it is truly a meal itself. The greens are vibrant and it is well dressed, not dry at all. Everyone was very pleased with their meals. The chai was not my favorite but I'm just very into chai. Located away from the hustle and bustle, the setting is a petite, rustic, yet intimate space with strict and timely reservations. Our cod fish fritter balls starter were uniquely fluffy and we couldn't pass up the passion fruit mimosa carafe to share along with my daughter who visited. While refreshing, we were fooled by the "passion fruit" on the menu and tasted nothing like the fruit. Our meals were nice- but they listed better on paper. The grits in my dish were silky+buttery and so were the scrambled eggs. The shrimp were small and overcooked. I would've appreciated 2-3 large shrimp instead of 5 overcooked ones. My daughter's salmon (2 of my sisters also had this) with a jerk glaze was that- a glaze clump instead of the glaze coating and getting to all the nooks and crannies of the fish. Anyhow. My twin sister's mini Savory veggie pie, was buttery and tasty and the salad, was a refreshing side. My sister decided on the Spiced Bread pudding to ring in another year and share instead of bringing our own dessert then getting charged $10? $15? for the restaurant to cut the cake¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Went by today to have a late breakfast. There were about 3 couples seated at the 2 seater tables near the windows. We asked to sit at a table for 3 to avoid being so close to the other patrons in the restaurant. The hostess stated she was saving the table for a larger party. There were multiple tables available for 3 or more ( strike 1). I ordered pancakes with berries and side of bacon. The pancakes arrived without the bacon. I reminded the waitress I ordered bacon, She said. "it's coming", (strike 2) One would think the bacon would arrive with the pancakes. The bacon arrive about 6 minutes after. The pancakes were horrible. They were hard to cut with a butter knife which made me think there were pre made and microwaved ( strike 3). I really wanted to love The Edge. The ambience is wonderful--welcoming, vibrant, and full of energy. The diverse mix of patrons and the warm feel of the space definitely make you want to stay a while. Unfortunately, the food just didn't measure up. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and to be honest, it was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in a long time. The shrimp were rubbery and flavorless, almost like they had been frozen and refrozen. The grits were unappetizing and lacked any real depth of flavor. My eggs were also overcooked to the point of being inedible--definitely the worst I've ever had. I also tried the burger, which was tiny and tasted like a low-quality frozen patty. The fries that came with it were underwhelming and didn't help the plate. Hoping to salvage the meal, I ordered a waffle--sadly, it was just one small waffle, and for the price, it felt like a rip-off. It was flat, bitter, and had a noticeable taste of baking powder. It's disappointing, especially from a Caribbean-inspired restaurant where flavor and freshness should shine. I truly think the space has potential, but they really need to bring in a better chef to match the energy and beauty of the place. BS really. There were some positives, I mean the price was right, it was affordable. The ginger mimosa was great and like I said before the vibe was nice, had a nice ambiance, nice setup but that's it. And although those were the positives, the point of going to a restaurant is to eat.. and no matter how good the environment is, if the food isn't good, then there's no point. The purpose of this review is so that these restaurants can step their game up, and take some accountability. Being black owned and hiring biased influencers for positive reviews isn't enough. The food needs to be better than that. So this serves as a warning to those consumers who are thinking about trying this place, coming from those influencers on tik tok.
