Just ordered a burger and fries and they gave me a mushroom burger instead :( The mushroom burger was pretty good (hence the 5 stars) but it's just slightly disappointing when you're anticipating a juicy burger after hearing so much about this place. I ordered their hamburger which is called the "trueburger" and I'm assuming that the employee at the cash register heard "shroomburger" or they just had a mixup in the kitchen. Either way, I don't want to take away from the quality of food because it was still great. I just wanted to document my experience here in case it might be useful to future customers. Make sure to annunciate when you order your food just in case the covid plastic guard/masks get in the way of hearing. read more

One of the very few places left where you get your money's worth! Fair prices and great burgers!!

Time: 12:50pm Sunday Garlic galore!! The smell of garlic, bacon, steak are delicious smells to walk into. I've never try their burgers before, ought I'd give it a try to support this local burger restaurant. ORDER PROCESS we called in for our order. I was on hold for over 5min bc they were busy taking walk in orders. We ordered around 12:30pm, about 30min after they opened. COVID 19 protocol Social distance tapes are in place on the floor. There are safety pixi glass by the register. Completely contactless checkout with square PO system. SERVICE Very quick and efficient. There were 2 staff managing the takeout orders, and 3 cooks in the kitchen. The cashier staff took orders very quickly. I called in about 10min before I arrived at the restaurant, n my food was already done. If you're looking to grab a quick bite, true burger is the place for to order from. I don't think I've ever been to a burger place that made my order so quickly. WHAT I ORDERED Cheesy true burger This is absolutely a cheeseburger made in heaven. It's so juicy, cheesy, the patty is made just right at medium wellness level. I think the secret ingredient is the garlic Mayo in the burger, anything garlicky I eat the whole thing. Bacon cheesy true burger My bf loved his burger. Very juicy patty, higher quality than in n out burgers. He calls it a bigger shake shack burger. Garlic fries Very Oily, garlicky, well done fries. The fries were cold when we ate it at home. If it was a hot, it would be perfect. Garlic mayo This sauce is smacking! Goes with the fries very well. I would definitely come back for more whenever I crave a juicy, high quality burger. read more

Great hamburgers, and I can even get them a bit rare-- such an exception to fast food grey. Fries are crispy, tho I rarely eat them. Milkshakes are made with real ice cream. Delicious though getting expensive as I suppose everything else is these days. read more

I have to say TrueBurger is pretty awesome. The burgers are a mix of a gourmet burger and a greasy dive burger. The garlic fries are delicious also.I have never tried the shakes but they look really good. The Grand location is way better than the Broadway location in every way though so make sure you go to this one. The service is on point at this one. I always get my food to go and the seating area is pretty empty although I do go during off times. Now that I'm thinking an]bout it I should eat there next time. read more

if you're looking for a quick, delicious, affordable burger, look no further! TrueBurger hits the spot! For less than $20, we got 2 burgers & 1 fries. The burgers are cooked to perfection, and have great char & great flavor. The buns here are perfectly soft, fluffy, brioche buns. I love the garlic aioli they put on it especially! I'd give 5 stars except the tomato was suuuuper soggy & tasted a bit rotten. I was able to take it out tho, and the burger was still fantastic! If you're in a rush, be sure to call in an order. I placed an order & it was ready in 5-10 mins. My fries were still hot when i got them! read more

Wait, I didn't have a review for this joint already?! WTH! Well, this is a long time coming. Honestly, this place right here comes in second of my list of favorite burgers. With only two locations in Oakland, this place is something special. During COVID you can order online for pick up or delivery. Let me tell you, I ordered at 5:45PM for three burgers and fries, order was ready by 6PM! The fries are crispy and salted to perfection. Their burgers, well you have hella choices and how you want your patty cooked. They also have a veg burger option. They also offer hot dogs which I haven't tried before but intrigued. They have sauces you can order on the side and shakes. I ordered the bacon cheese trueburger (BCTB online) w/ extra garlic mayo and pickles. Mmmhhmm! Everything about it was juicy, flavorful, and memorable. It wasn't too messy. And guess what?! The total price for three burgers, 2 fries, 3 side sauces... was about $40! Hella reasonable compared to Super Duper (see my other review). Honestly, w/ Trueburger, you don't need another burger joint in Oakland. read more

OOHHH ~~ Juicy, delicious, flavorful burgers ?! Count me in! My boyfriend and I came in on a Sunday night and both got the True Deluxe Burger, specifically because I wanted to try the crunchy portobello mushroom that has yummy cheese oozing out of it ... And oh lawdddd it did not disappoint. I would've given this place an easy 5/5 stars, but due to the really rude cashier, I unfortunately had to dock a point. I'd like to think that people are just having a bad or something's going on in her life, but regardless, the employee woman seemed to be rude to everyone. It was like she had a black cloud over her, but WHATEVER, the food was great !! Sadly I wasn't that surprised since I had previously read other reviews stating the problematic attitudes from employees here. Gotta turn that frown upside down :( I was excited for the garlic fries, especially because they had a great garlic aroma. Unfortunately not ALL the fries were crunchy, so some were soggy, but still good ! Totally would recommend checking this place out if you want a delicious, juicy burger that will satisfy all dem' spots when craving a burger ;) read more

Probably hands down, one of the better non-chain burger joints i've gone to! I got the True Deluxe burgers with a side of the garlic fries. When the burger came out, It was so stuffed and fat that I pretty much knew I would not finish it just by looking at it; -I did. The patty was so flavorful and juicy that no additional sauce was needed to the burger. I ordered my burger medium well and it was the right amount of cooked and pink to retain the natural "juice" There is a condiment station off the side for all your toppings galore! Everything you need from sauces, to pickled options and fresh onions. Lets talk about the Garlic Fries... it is the true definition of garlic fries. Rarely do you see a place advertise and use real garlic. It comes with chunks of garlic where you practically get a bite of garlic with every bite of your fries. read more

We love to try new burger places and this place really is worth the hype. The food took a while our first time there because the place was pretty packed for a weekend day around 2 pm. Today we went again and it was packed but the wait was a lot shorter for some reason. We were impressed that they gave us options to prepare the patty - I chose well done and my partner chose medium rare. They were both made to order and we both enjoyed both of ours. The burgers are not wet and dripping with grease like other burger places (like five guys'd burgers) and the bread is so soft and moist! Very delicious. Only think is onions and pickles do not come on the burger automatically so you have to ask for it. The garlic fries are crispy and there's plenty of garlic to go around as well. The milkshakes are great. The Oreo milkshake has pieces of crispy Oreos in the shake. We have also had the vanilla milkshake with bananas and peanut butter, which is also delicious. This is our favorite burger spot near us! read more

If you wanna fill your daily calorie quota with just two meals (burger + fries), this is the place to hit up! I had never been to Truburgers before, but I had read so many good things about it that I had to give it a try. I went in at around 3:00 on a Saturday. The personnel were friendly and easy going, and it was very easy to place my to-go order. I asked for a standard cheeseburger with everything. As I was the only one there, my order was ready in less than 10 minutes. All the ingredients appeared fresh. However, the hamburger was way too salty! I could barely eat it, and I tolerate Costco rotisserie chicken! To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I don't know if it was just a one-off and the cook accidentally over-salted it, but if this is the way their hamburger is normally prepared, I will not be ordering it again. Bummer. read more

The service was terrible today. I ordered three cheese burgers, 3 fries and three chocolate milkshakes. When I arrived the food was around 63.00. Didn't care...I loved the last burger and the fact that it's Kobe I'm buying. I asked the cashier if he could make the shakes thicker because I live deep in Oakland and drove there from Concord. The shake lady had a nasty attitude. She looked at me in a disgusting matter. He spoke to her in their language then finally sue conceded and made the shake again. I asked her to just make the one shake vanilla instead. She ignored me and made them all chocolate. The customers were all looking asking what the problem with her making one vanilla. I asked the cashier to make one vanilla and that I would pay. The shake girl shook her head, saying no toward the cashier. One customer asked to buy it..I told her she could have it but she insisted on paying. I took what she gave me and asked to have another yet VANILLA. He let me purchase then she made it reluctantly. I told him you all need to speak to her about her attitude. I was very calm and professional. My husband works under the Oakland Mayors office and is diehard Oakland and I'm a Nurse Mgr here as well. I was in hospice meetings all day. We were fiending for burgers all week...we planned around this restaurant. This will be my last time coming. I refuse to spend money where I am mistreated. In a time where people are losing jobs and life's left and right, they should be appreciative of locals support. This local, never again. read more

It's true, I'm not the biggest In-N-Out Burger fan. I get why people in Hawaii love this place but I suppose when you have lived near one for a few years, it's not a place you really crave. My friends have been telling me to try TrueBurger for a long time but I haven't had time with so many other places to dine at. Finally after a full meal at The Boiling Crab in San Jose, I decided to check them out on my way back to my Airbnb. I ordered the Bacon Cheesy TrueBurger and Garlic Fries. The customer service could have been better but I'll let it slide since the actual burger was legit. On the side of the register, you can add pickles and onions. You also can make ketchup take out containers. The time I went, they literally ran out while I was pumping ketchup so they brought out ketchup packets while they change the ketchup out. It didn't take too long to get my order so I was pleased since I parked illegally outside. Since I was renting a spot from Airbnb along Lake Merritt, the parking sucked. It took me an additional 30 minutes to finally secure a stall. All the good smells in the Turo just made me even more hungry. The Garlic Fries were mostly soggy when I finally got to eat it but the few that were crunch were good. Burger was amazing! Everything my friends said it was but I totally forgot to add mushrooms like they recommended so next time I'll have to do it. Definitely a spot I'll go back to in the future. read more

Just went here with my friend. The burgers were incredible but the garlic fries weren't to my taste. The milkshakes were also well done. There is a fair amount of table space, but if you don't want to sit down there is a very nice surrounding area as it is a short walk from Lake Merritt. read more

Trueburger is an Oakland burger icon and a must-try. There are 2 locations, Grand Ave. and Broadway. There are certain super indulgent days that I crave/dream about the True deluxe - the burger with the cheesy portobello mushroom- some garlic fries with the homemade ranch. Oh let's not forget the cookies and cream milkshake! Then I eat most of it and am in a food coma for the rest of the day. The fries (especially garlic) are definitely good for sharing, as they pile it up. Make sure to have some gum afterwards. Most days are on point, especially when I am eating at the restaurant where I can get the food piping hot and fresh. However, there is the rare occasion when the fries are a little cold and the burger isn't as up to par as usual. Nonetheless, I keep returning. I always remember the love at first bite taste. read more

I've been ordering pickup from this spot once a month, and it's become my go-to for burgers! The patties taste freshly ground and are perfectly seasoned, while the buns and veggies always taste fresh. I love that the burgers are still hot when I get them. I'm thinking of trying their cheese fries next time because everything else has been good. read more

My crispy chicken sandwich tasted like old grease and the middle of it tasted rubbery and lacked flavor.

Came here on a Tuesday early evening and service was pretty quick. I got a mushroom burger and although I wish the cheese inside the patty had more flavor, it was still solid. I don't think it was worth the cost though. I was a huge fan of the garlic aioli on the burger. I also tried some of my friend's cheese fries which had a bit of a kick and strawberry lemonade and both of those were delicious. The only thing I really disliked was that there were tons of flies inside the restaurant around the seating area which made it not super comfortable to sit and eat. Overall, I would maybe return for the fries and lemonade as a to go snack but probably not the burger. read more

Go to place for their mushroom burger and their garlic fries! Nice people I'll come back for the food and the service for sure.

It's been years since I've been here and Mom and I were going to grab lunch. Mom has never been here but absolutely loved her mushroom burger with bacon. I also got the mushroom burger which is a fried portobello mushroom with cheese, perfect for vegetarians, no bacon for me. It was good but I will say nothing like my first experience, seems they've lessened the cheese the mushroom was filled with. Mom and I added raw onion and heavy pickles. Great flavor overall and Mom said she would like to return. I did not like that we had to ask for the tables to be wiped. There were only 2 guys in the restaurant when we walked in and they were waiting for their food. Literally all tables were dirty and once we asked for the tables to be cleaned, the guys asked if the young man who was also doubling as the cashier could also wipe their area. The restaurant was not busy at all so not quite sure why with 3 additional workers in the kitchen no tables were already clean when we entered. That was the only major drawback. Other than that, food was good and the young who took our order was pleasant read more

One of thee best burgers in the East Bay! Hands down. The patties, the cheese, the garlic fries, everything goes well together. The truth about TrueBurger is that it is simple and delicious. They have a barebones menu of burgers available to order. There is no chicken burger options. There is a mushroom burger option. The mushroom burger is amazing!! Fried and filled with gooey cheese. Makes being a vegetarian easier when I'm craving a burger.

I have an unhealthy addiction to TruBurger. It's my favorite spot for a juicy burger and crispy fries. My go to is the double cheese burger (I'll usually add another patty and make it a triple), fries, and milk shake. The garlic aioli they put on the burgers is what has me hooked. Everything pairs so well together and the flavors mend so nicely. The double burger is on the more expensive side at $15 ($18 for the triple) but it's worth it. My gf doesn't care for the brioche buns and I think that it's too much bread for just a single patty, so double down read more

Good burger bit oily but it's good I think their menu needs improvement ambiance is cute and service could be more friendly

TrueBurger is probably the only reason to come to downtown Oakland on a weekend. Nearly everything else is closed, and for good reason. But people are flocking to this burger joint 1-1/2 blocks from Lake Merritt. TrueBurger is small and hipster. Small menu that covers most taste buds. Mural of the city with no "there" there on the left wall. Tip jar that includes a picture of Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall" album. You would think that you're south of Market in SF, not in big bad Oaktown. The kids would love it. But you know me. Or maybe you don't. I'm more interested in the food than the decor. It's why I have a fondness for choke-and-pukes, and TrueBurger is not a choke-and-puke. Yelpers say that they have great burgers; do they? A definite YES from me. The Bacon Cheesy that I had included a medium-rare patty (I prefer medium-well, but whatever), slices of bacon that occupied the sweet spot between crunchy and tender with lots of taste, and sauce that added to the flavor. It's not big, only a quarter pound, so it's a good size for most people. The fries are okay. It *is* fast food - I got my order only a few minutes after placing it - but it's better than most fast food places. TrueBurger lives up to its reputation. "Best burger in town" is so subjective, who knows what the best is, but TrueBurger is in the running. It's worth that special trip with the kids; the Fairyland set hasn't started eating beef yet, so they'd skip it, but older kids and teenagers would dig it. So would people working on Broadway, although it's a hike from most offices. So would Lake Merritt joggers. You'd probably dig it too. read more

This place is SOOOOO good. I got their deluxe burger because I love shake shack. I had low expectations and was AMAZED. The bread is soft. They put in some delicious sauce. The fried mushroom was perfect. Their garlic fries have A LOT of garlic and flavor on them. The only downside was we got it delivered so they were soggy but we jsut stuck them in the air fryer. This is one of my FAVORITE restaurants in Oakland. Update: I ate here again and my sky high expectations were met. The deluxe burger was still amazing. I tried the Oreo cookie shake (vanilla w Oreo mix in) and it is the best Oreo milkshake I've ever had. The Oreo pieces are small so they don't clog your straw. It's drinkable. Not too sweet. TLDR: similar to shake shack! I stopped by TrueBurger with my partner after finding it on yelp and seeing the pictures of their delicious burgers. Upon first glance, the shop itself is quite small but does offer a decent amount of seating. I ordered the True Deluxe which was a cheeseburger with a fried portobello mushroom that's been stuffed with MORE CHEESE! It was absolutely delicious and reminded me a lot of Shake Shacks Shroomburger which is a burger I dream of quite a bit. The burger was around $10 which isn't bad considering how large the portion is. I could only finish half of my burger and it was still tasty when I warmed it up later that night. I recommend coming here if you have a craving for burgers! The service was friendly and the food is amazing. read more
