Hello fellow Alameda Troy diners. Today was a complete TRAIN wreck. Usually the two young men are serving during the afternoon. Today we had a empty restaurant, a waitress and a bar tender. We sat down, asked for menus, served water and they ghost us. Both these women were so intensely on there phones, never looking up to see if we were ready to order. I walked over to the bar area where they were both on their phones, they looked and i ordered over $100++ dollars worth of food. As i walked back to my seat they both acted as if i disrespected them. Waited, and waited again for our beers as they both just stared at us as if we were the enemy from the bar areas. I said to my friends let go this place is not what i am accustomed to and apologized because i had spoken so highly of this place. We did place a large order that i really felt bad walking out on but......enough is enough. Please replace your staff that worked today. Please i love this place. This spot is a great go-to for anyone who needs a quick, healthy bite. I ALWAYS get the gyro here and in high school, I would scramble to order the side of fries because it was the most addicting thing for us Alameda High Schoolers. Today, I ordered both and I was not disappointed. 9" Gyro: There is a 7" option, but man I was HUNGRY. Since I started intermittent fasting, I needed more food to eat. First of all, the gyro is packed very tightly and neatly (I got it to-go) and eating it in my car was a very enjoyable, stain-free experience. The lamb and beef were not cut into small pieces which made it a bit chunky, but it was decent. I remembered it being tastier when it was thinly sliced. The balance of red onions, tomatoes, lettuce and tzatziki sauce got me eating it within 5 minutes! Side of Fries: What can I say, it is more like a MEAL than a side. I couldn't even finish my fries after eating the gyro. These are "the only fries you'd order other than McDonald's" because they are so delicious, you'd order them on its own. Make sure to get lots of ketchup. The interior of this place resembles a hole in the wall, so you might miss it unless you know where to look. Unfortunately, not Bolton. 1. It was too hot to eat anything other than a sandwich/wrap. 2. We ordered a 7" chicken shawarma and 9" gyro. Total was $17. 3. I was kinda disappointed that the chicken shawarma was wrapped in a pita because other chicken shawarmas I've had are wrapped like a burrito. The chicken was cooked perfectly but the flavor was just barely there. 4. The gyro literally had three strips of meat. Bf said it didn't taste fresh. 5. Ask for sauces to go! If you go to the new Troy, go in the evening. The two servers Bernie and Martina are awesome. Bernie is so sweet and social. She remembers customer's names and does her best to give great service. Her co worker is just as nice. Their accents may fool you, they are not Greek, they are Argentinian. We are regulars there and now she even remembers our order. We prefer to go in the evening because of the great service. If you go during the day, the servers are the B-Squad for sure. They don't smile or say much and are not dressed as nice or professional. The chef, Mario is nice too. Our favorite is the beef and chicken skewers, their hummus and pita is delicious. My husband walked in to place a to-go order today. He was not greeted or acknowledged by the 2 staff members standing at the bar deep in conversation. He approached them and asked if he could place a to-go order and if he could see a menu. They pointed to a table and told him the menu's over there, never moving from the bar. When he was ready, Aline, 1 of the 2 staff members rang him up. He sat down at a table to wait for his food while it was being prepared, he guesses 15-20 minutes may have passed (no big deal). Eventually, he asked a staff member if his food was ready, who told him, "oh yah, you're food is up there. It's been ready."Said staff member never mentioned his food was ready when it came out of the kitchen, and never handed him his to go bag. On top of the terrible service, the food was sad. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. I ordered the gyro and fries. Food came out super fresh and hot! The gyro had flavorful meat, fresh veggies, and was loaded with white sauce. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. The server brought out a bunch of different sauces to the table which was really nice. This place is a little small but the flavor in their food is big! Great little Mediterranean place! I've ordered from Q's a few times and theirs is good, but I didn't fully realize how pricey they are until I tried Troy. Troy's prices are really good and for pretty much the same portion size as Q's. My husband likes the gyro wrap better here too. I've gotten the Greek salad at both and while the cost is way better at Troy, Q's does have a better dressing. I also tried the spanokopita - yum. :) I think the falafels are comparable in quality, but much better priced here. We will definitely be back! read more

I usually go to the place next door but thougt I'd give this place a try. Bad decision on my part, nice variety in the menu with most Mediterranean/Greek items available. Had the chicken plate that came with 6 pcs of small chicken, roasted vegetables, rice and pita. For the price of $10.xx, I was expecting more chicken. Sad to say everything tasted fine but it's more of a lunch portion. Service was ok as well with order at the counter style but just can't get over the portion ratio. I am very rarely compelled to leave anything but glowingly positive reviews for any restaurant. But these folks need some help. First the good. Troy's food has been, and continues to be fantastic. The move to the new location has not caused a hiccup by any means. However, the scene in Troy this Monday afternoon was wildly uncomfortable for a handful of reasons. I initially hoped to dine in, but after just a few moments at the table I elected to switch to takeout. One of the first things you're greeted with is a large television playing music via YouTube. No problem there, but the different music coming from the kitchen was even louder, so the competing different musics was brutal. The front of house staff had a couple of their friends sprawled out on the bar, not egregious in itself. But the friends were also watching things on their phones at pretty loud volumes as well. The cacophony of sounds was enough to give me a proper headache. Additionally, one of the friends was vaping while seated at the bar top! Wildly inappropriate, not to mention against the law . I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I've been in the bar and restaurant business for over a decade, and I know that if I owned or managed this business, I'd want to know about what was going on. The dining room was a very inhospitable and uncomfortable place to be, and it could be remedied very easily. I hope the powers that be see this and take a little action. I wish these folks all the best. It would be a shame to let such a beautiful venue go to waste, and remain a take out oriented establishment. read more

It's been a while since we've gone to Troy (we used to go all the time) and we've been craving some good Greek food so we decided to order lunch to be delivered this afternoon. I had the falafel and my husband had the gyro... $14 each, we wanted the large...we were both incredibly underwhelmed with the not only the size put the preparation and lack of ingredients...my falafel was dry until the last 2 bites where I finally found a couple cucumber & tomato chunks and a tiny bit of the tahini dressing. My husband was disappointed with the lack of meat, specifically. 2 stars are for taste, you can tell they have the right ingredients and know how but skimpy portions is putting it mildly! read more

It's a zero. We have ordered in the past and the food is mediocre but quick. Tonight we had a horrible experience. We called the Troy at 8:10 pm to order food and they hung up on us. We called several more times and no one would pick up the phone. We then went to the restaurant and arrived at 8:29 pm. The hostess said they closed the kitchen at 8:30 and would not allow us to order. There is nothing on the website that discusses that the kitchen closes before the restaurant closes. At the restaurant there were several servers hanging out and not doing anything. There were no customers. Hopefully the writing is on the wall and everyone figures out this place is not worth it. I hope this place closes, we will never return. read more

Picked up two salads for lunch today. One with gyros meat and one with chicken. Both were delicious the balsamic dressing has a lot of flavor as well as their hot sauces! Salad came with a pita that was nice and toasty and warm! Super flavorful salads, I will definitely be coming back. read more

We noticed Troy and Pappo from across the street at the Alameda Cinema. Since we wanted something for dinner before 6:00 PM roll around for the watch party of the Warriors game, we opted for Troy. Not knowing what to expect, I brought this restaurant up on my yelp app to check out what other yelpers had to say. It's helpful to have that information. Several of my fellow yelpers gave them high reviews (Jim D, Thuy T, Paul L). Then, I can always rely on Victor G's review. He has never failed me with his reviews - shout out of thanks to him. Ambiance: Troy is a small restaurant, which probably seats about 15 people indoor. There are a few tables and chairs outside for those who prefer to dine outdoor. The menu boards are on the right side of the restaurant and framed pictures on the left side, along with a pair of wall lamps and a plaque. Cash register on the counter and the back area is the kitchen. Counter also has a display case filled with spanakopitas and baklavas. Customer service: friendly hostess/waitress took our order and served us. It was also quick; we did not wait long for our meal. Specialties: Appetizers, two types of soup, side dishes, salads, pita wraps, assorted Greek platters. Eats: Gyro platter, moussaka and spanakopita. The portions were generous, except for the appetizer. We could not finish our meals, as we were pressing for time. It was already 5:50 PM and we had get to go boxes for the leftovers. Husband enjoyed his gyro platter. The meat was tender, but not seasoned enough to his liking. He was looking for the salt shaker. The bottled sauces were his only option as flavor enhancers. My piping hot moussaka topped with bechamel was slightly better than okay. I am not much of a lamb fan. I never really care for the gamey taste of lamb chops while I was growing up. I always had that gagging taste in my mouth eating lamb. Somehow I managed to eat half of the moussaka, despite it containing ground beef and ground lamb, eggplant, cheese and a tomato based sauce. It had a little gamey taste, but not enough to make me gag. Even though the spanakopita was tasty, the price for four of them was over $6.00. I like them, but the value for the small pieces were just not worth it. Overall rating: 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. This past Sunday, during the Alameda Art & Wine Festival, we came back to Troy for the 2nd time. It was well past 2 and there were plenty of tables, although be warned this is a very small, cramped spot. I'd say it's ideal for take out or if you're dining solo. It's not really well set up to accomodate any large parties. Other than that, I am fan of their reasonably priced wraps, plates and salads. For $20 my boyfriend and I got: 1.) Greek Salad Pita Wrap 2.) Chicken Shwarma Pita Wrap 3.) Hummus and pita appetizer 4.) Bottled water. Overall it a a good amount of food and a great deal!! Their greek salad dressing was light and flavorful and the tomatoes, cucumbers and greens were definitely fresh and plentiful-they didn't skimp on the feta or tomatoes like other spots some times do in their Greek salads. The hummus appetizer was a generous portion for $4.95 although they could have added a couple more pita wedges-the hummus to pita ratio was a bit off. The bf enjoyed his wrap as well and kept saying "So good...so good..." So, yeah, he was happy. The wraps themselves weren't quite a lavash bread, not quite a pita and not quite a flat bread-it was a tasty hybrid of them and held all the ingredients in it quite well. Food was fantastic! The owner needs to train the wait staff, lol! The young woman and young man acted like they didn't care that any of us were there. We stood at the door, he even looked at us and finally we asked if we could be seated. No smile, how are you..., or anything. Then the young lady came up and asked if we were ready to order - no pleasantries.... While the guy stood at the counter, looked at the tv screen, and looked at the counter. They were both like this with the three other customers - they weren't busy, just acted as if they didn't care or want to be there. I was disappointed to find that the menus are also different than the College Ave location and they don't have the Chicken and Lamb Souvlaki Wraps here so went with the Gyro wrap in a 7 inch size (also have 9 inch versions of the wraps). Went for my birthday despite negative service reviews because I really wanted Greek food. Was I wrong! Woman taking reservation was curt. Martini we ordered with extra olives came with one because "we're running low on olives." Had to ask for the wine I ordered after martini arrived. had to ask for a table setting. Had to ask what happened to our appetizer after 20 minutes. Waitress had to come back to cofirm our order because she "got confused." After 45 minutes she came back to say the kitchen was backed up and the order wasn't ready. We told her to cancel and when we asked what the problem in the kitchen was she got huffy and told us she didn't like our attitude then walked away without giving us a receipt. Just shy of a year since my first delicious bite at Troy, I have racked up dozens of more visits and this stuff is LEGIT. Updates: -I now order 9 inches -My favorites are the falafels, tzatziki & Greek salad. -If you ask for too much EXTRA sauce on a to-go order, they will charge you $2 for a 2 oz. container. -Winter hours 11am-8pm, till 9pm during all other seasons. -The last few trips the pita has been a bit chewy. The gyro is my hero. My friend and I decided to eat Mediterranean food, so a quick Yelp search directed us to this joint. It's basically a hole in the wall, but aren't those the best kinds of places to get your nom on? After viewing the chalkboard menu for a couple of minutes, I decided to get a 7" gyro (also comes in 9") and Greek fries. You can eat your food inside/outside the restaurant, or take it and bounce. We decided to eat inside because it was raining when we arrived. After placing our order our food arrived fresh about 8-10 minutes later. How was it? Mmmmmmmmmmmm-mazing! The lamb/beef in my gyro was tender and well seasoned. The Greek fries? Oh. Oh, my. Seasoned and crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. Basically, the perfect fries. They were similar to shoestring fries (thin). Troy also has these, like, bottles of yummy hot sauce. There's a green sauce and a red one. BOTH are DELICIOUS. I wanted to take some hooooome! After visiting Greece this past summer, we needed to find an optimal Greek spot near Park Street. We stumbled upon this place recently and stopped by on a Friday night for some Gyros. I ordered the large Gyro and the amount of meat on it was incredible. The sauce was also delicious and overall, it was an excellent Gyro. We also shared a salad as well and although it was a little heavy on the dressing, it wasn't bad. Wanted it to be great....I'm only going to speak of the things that really stood out to me. The chicken was amazingly tender...I also enjoyed the side of feta cheese in oil as well. I would probably come back for these two items alone. As for the rice...very bland....disappointment, I'd substitute it with garlic fries next time. The roasted veggies were really good and tasty, but the salmon came out lukewarm and although I like rare ..it was too rare. The server was sweet, I think it was her second day there. read more
