I came in expecting a good bread and sandwich shop, then noticed the serious looking chefs preparing for dinner service in this tiny shop with incredible bread and baguettes. Ah, this was next level. Then I saw the Michelin man placed up on the counter behind the register: glancing again at online reviews and noted, one star. (I later discovered the chefs prepping were Sean McGaughey and Melissa Yanc, formerly from Single Thread.) We each got a glass of wine, Chardonnay for me and Cab Franc for my guy, and split a Brie and French ham sandwich with sweet jam, great butter, and a fresh chewy baguette. Simple, beautifully executed, and absolutely delicious. Great bread, good music, pears set up for dessert prep, a bustling kitchen, excellent wine, and a sandwich (and many other possibilities: their chicken salad sandwich & a fascinating roasted carrot sumac sandwich) worth coming back for. 3.5 stars After missing it during my last trip to Healdsburg because I came too late and they had sold out (around 1:30pm on a Saturday), I made sure to come early this time (around 11:30am on a Sunday). This time they had plenty of sandwiches, and I settled for the turkey pesto. Having read so many rave reviews, I was unfortunately underwhelmed, the bread was good (soft, moist, good flavor), but I didn't think the sandwich itself was anything that special. There are many other turkey sandwiches I have enjoyed more, no need for a special trip. But do buy some bread while you are there, or grab some when you're at Quail and Condor. I liked the Yecora Rojo Sourdough (moist, good flavor). They can even slice it for you with their machine, although I wish I hadn't because the slices were very thick and a bit uneven. read more

I'm not sure how I can do justice. This is undoubtedly one, if not the finest restaurants I've ever been to, in the world. No, it's not the parking (we carefully arranged to have a driver take us here as it was a special event coupled with specific wines) which can be hairy in Healdsburg and I wanted to be safe. No, it's the price, as it was part of a fund-raiser, and we got every penny's worth, and more. No, it's not the menu....what, wait? The menu was chosen. It was the absolute intricate and painstaking craftsmanship and scientific acumen applied to each bite, each vision that was presented, the care and perfectionist approach, the precision and taste of every bite. A fantastic fine dining restaurant by night (in the daytime, it appears to be a raved-about sandwich shop). I went after they earned a well-deserved Michelin star, and I was surprised by just how good everything was. Standouts for me included chicken - making chicken flavorful is something I'd never figure out how to do in my kitchen - and a series of impressive small bites to start off the meal. A cute place with lots of premade sandwiches, baked goods and coffee options. We stopped here after walking past it 3 times. The preview of their sandwiches from the window reeled us in. My girlfriends and I were having a girls weekend and stopped here for lunch. My girlfriends and I ordered sandwiches and I ordered 2 chocolate chip cookies and one of my girlfriends ordered the kouign aman. I had the ham with honey and Brie and my girlfriends ordered the special. The sandwich was delicious. We each enjoyed our sandwich. The cookie was delicious!!! Yeah, ok, I kinda see what the fuss is about. The bread is fresh, soft, perfect sandwich bread. We did the Turkey Pesto, the Chicken Salad, and a chocolate chip cookie. Cookie was as big as my hand! Crispy edge, soft inside. 10/10 for that cookie. The chicken salad was really good. Large chunks of chicken, mayo, some spices -not sure what. Consistency was perfect. Loved the pumpkin seeds for a little crunch. Definitely the best chicken salad I've had in a long time. And nice on the bread. Lettuce could have been there or not, didn't add anything for me. Simple, effective. The turkey pesto was kind of basic, but the addition of the dill and the very fresh bread did do something for me. I think I'll be adding dill to my pesto sandos now? Came in for bread, left with a pretzel treat from the chef. We made this a stop on our trip to grab some sandwiches and bread. And, I peeked into the kitchen and noticed beautiful floral inspired pretzels on a tray. The chef shared they were for the dinner service, but brought out a few for us to try. Visited healdsburg on a short trip with my mom and sister and knew I had to take them here to try the sandwiches. The turkey pesto and chicken salad sandwich were as delicious as I remember from the last time I came a few months ago. I got to try their daily special (spicy salami) this time as well since we were all sharing. My favorite was still the turkey pesto. The pesto really makes this sandwich IMO. After reading such good reviews on this place, we were worried the line would be out the door so we ordered ahead on their online platform which said 3/6 sandwiches were sold out. That's fine, we ordered the chicken salad and mortadella and got there about 15 minutes later. Good thing was the food was ready, annoying thing was that they had all the sandwiches stocked at the cafe and there was zero line. That's probably the highest compliment I can give. I ordered the Wagyu sandwich, and every component knew exactly why it was there. One bite somehow managed to satisfy my teeth, my tongue, my throat, and even my nose. It's rare to find a sandwich that engages all of your senses at once. Whoever built this sandwich has an exceptional understanding of flavor, texture, and restraint. Nothing felt excessive, and nothing felt missing. Then there's the bread. Too often, bread is just the thing that holds the filling together. Here, it deserves equal billing. Moist, fragrant with wheat, with beautifully toasted edges that added just enough crunch without becoming hard. By the final bite, the filling was already gone, but I still found myself slowing down because I didn't want the bread to end. Hours of food poisoning from a $20 ham and brie sandwich. Not sure if the sandwich had been sitting out for too many hours on the counter or if someone didn't wash their hands before handling the food (cashier perhaps?) It was odd to see the cashier cutting the sandwiches with bare hands in between handling money and register. She also threw the sandwich at me when I didn't leave a tip. It's a premade sandwich that I ordered to-go, stop asking me to tip 25% on this type of transaction. The sandwich tasted fine except that some pieces of brie in the sandwich were just pieces of rind, and for the price that is unacceptable. This was hands down the best chicken salad sandwich of my life!!! The bread was soft and flavorful and beautifully fermented and seeded sourdough. The filling was peppery and creamy and addicting!! The Wagyu roast beef was also amaaaazing! It had this gorgeous garlicky spread and the meat was so tender and flavorful! I am still dreaming of the impeccable clafoutis, those canapés bursting with umami, that caviar in that delicious cauliflower foam, the escargot laced with butter with that carrot puree that is absolute perfection, the journey of flavors that was the chocolate spread. And the next morning - those incredible sandwiches! Who knew carrots could taste like this? Troubadour offers a pre fixe menu with an additional optional add-on. The restaurant is quite fun as they seem to experiment a lot including a very unique herbal fruit tea with kombu that they provide during dessert. The dessert included a bunch of small bites but the best dish was the fresh strawberries and Korean mulberries. Wonderful service! read more

This was legitimately one of the top three meals I've ever had in my life. We went for dinner on a Sunday around 7:45pm and there were only three other parties there. It's a tiny place - a sandwich shop by day and a Michelin recommended dinner spot at night. They have a prix fixe tasting menu (or a la carte option) but I highly recommend the prix fixe. They started with a lovely broth and then went into several canapés. I can't stop thinking about the rye and lardo one! We added the caviar and it was delightful in a cauliflower foamy soup. The escargot was fantastic (not in the shell) and the tartare was amazing. Honestly the brioche baguette that came with the escargot was one of the best things - it's salty and buttery and perfect for dipping into the sauces. We got both the trout and the duck. Holy moly the duck was out of this world. It's a special duck (orvia) and the skin was perfectly crispy and had a nice bite of fat but not too much. It came with a brown sauce that you could dip the homemade sourdough in. The stuffed morel was incredible. Everything came in cute little dishes and was beautifully plated. The Riesling was a nice accompaniment. They also give a variety of sweets to end the meal. Every bite of this meal blew me away. Service was professional but not overly chatty or friendly. C'est si Bon!!! My review is related to Le Diner; Love this intimate experience! My party of 4 had the pleasure of dining on a rainy evening but it certainly did not dampen the experience. The staff are lovely and the food is on point. Our server recommended we order one of each of the items on the tasting menu and we are so glad we followed his recommendation; it was such a fun experience to try it all. The stars in my book were the beef tartare, roasted cauliflower with caviar and the amazing fish dish. The fish dish in particular brought back memories of a lunch I had in the town of Reims; it brought me right back to that experience.
