Place was SO PACKED for just a Monday morning at 9:30am. I ordered off the "specials" menu, a recommendation from our server. Smoked chicken and butternut squash hash with poached eggs and a homemade biscuit. From bite one, I'm glad I listened. I could've used another bowl of the jalepeno "sauce" as it added a delicious freshness to my meal. All components paired well and it provided the savoriness I prefer. Wow am I glad I found this hole in the wall Resturant while searching for something new on Yelp. It's our new favorite breakfast spot for sure. SEP2025 Came by on a beautiful day on the weekend so things were pretty busy. It was in the area of some errands so we settled down for here. The parking lot is shared with the hotel as well so we were lucky we had gotten there between groups and someone left right when we pulled up. We had the fur baby with us too so we had a nice table outside. The server answered any questions, and checked on us frequently despite how busy it was. My partner decided on the duck hash, and I had gotten the tofu scramble with a biscuit and gravy side. The food was cooked well. Just left this establishment. Started off good with warm greetings and a decent mocha. My husband and I ordered French toast and pancakes. When the food was delivered I requested additional syrup from our waitress since the pancakes were very fluffy. She didn't return to our table until my husband got up to request the check. We had waited so long that the bus boy had already cleared our dishes. She drops off the check and immediately moved to the table behind us and let's them know what the day's specials are, a step she overlooked when servicing our table. I've been working on trying different restaurants this 2025. This restaurant is a little hidden. But it is so worth finding. The service here is absolutely exceptional. We got there around 12:30 today and we were worried that they were going to cut our service or we were gonna get bad service since it was an hour before closing time. We were completely wrong, our server was so great . She constantly came to check on us and told us if everything was fine. She came to refill our water. Even though at this point, it was already closer to 1 PM. The French toast was literally Chef kiss. It was super delicious. I normally never can finish a French toast plate by myself, but this one I was able to devour. The country style steak was also good and very flavorful, but I preferred definitely the French toast . This cafe is located at the hillside inn and has good parking for visitors. Read reviews on this place so i thought i would try it out. Inside the place is like a nice old cafe vibe which I definitely like. Read that portions were big which was not the case for my visit. My girlfriend and I go here every time I'm in Santa Rosa and let me tell you it never disappoints. There's normally a line out the door on weekends but it goes pretty fast. We haven't waited more than 20 minutes. Everyone inside is very nice and welcoming when you walk in and although there's a lot going on, the people working there always take the time to say hi and get your name down on the list. As for the food, I always want to try something new, but I just can't. The brussel sprout hash is so good that I am constantly thinking about it and have to order it every single time. I have been me wanting to try Jeffrey's Hillside Cafe forever! And finally today I did. It's tucked away behind a hotel , parking was easy. The place is so cute and clean. What first struck me was the art work on the walls. Several paintings by local artist Jack Stuppin, beautiful landscapes of our beloved Sonoma County. Next our server was so sweet and fun she almost made the trip work it. She was funny and professional at the same time. Now let's get to the food, I had the eggs Benedict my son had the root vegetable hash with a couple of over easy eggs and my daughter had the pancakes with sausage and scrambled eggs. My eggs were cooked perfectly, the potatoes on the side had so much flavor and the texture was spot on soft in the middle and with a good sauté on the outside, my sons dish didn't sound great to me to be honest but I had a bite and it was very light not greasy not to crunchy just right, and my daughters pancakes were fluffy and full of flavor. Of the three dishes at our table only the cheese blintzes were worth mentioning. The buttermilk blueberry pancakes tasted like a bland box mix served with cheap syrup-definitely NOT maple syrup. The ham was stringy and tough and the scrambled eggs were bland. On top of that it was ALL cold. The person who got the breakfast burrito reported that it was very bland. I got one refill, but only after my cup had been empty for a while, and only after I asked for it. No more were offered. I ordered the Tex-Mex Scramble, with chorizo, veggies, and avo/sour cream topping. It was fine, slightly too many crunchy bell peppers to my taste. A big hunk of avo on the top with the sour cream. The chorizo was mild in flavor, I hoped it would be spicier, but it was tasty. I had hash browns -- maybe I should have gone for the house potatoes instead. They were pretty ordinary, not really crisp on the outside, but plenty of them. Aside from the one coffee refill, I didn't get much attention, and after the bill was dropped off and my credit card had been sitting out on the table for quite a while, I took it up to the counter to pay. Maybe I just didn't understand the concept of this restaurant. I guess it's not trying to be 'gourmet,' but simply a slightly upgraded version of a diner breakfast. I don't get how these place have good reviews. So hipped up. Won't comment on the unkept parking and bathroom, etc. First impression, burnt coffee. 10am the coffee should not be burned. Ordered Tex Mex. NO chorizo. looked like they maybe did the eggs in the chorizo fat in the pan from the previous order or something. This spot is amazing! Service was on point, and the food was stellar. I had Eggs Benedict and it was quite possibly the best ever. So were the hash browns, as well! I also had a sausage gravy biscuit, and it was incredibly flavorful. My husband had the Chilaquiles and they were also fantastic. The coffee they serve is legit delicious, too. They have a nice comfy diner vibe with plenty of booths, and the outdoor seating was lovely. So glad we stopped on our way North. Highly, highly recommend!! I'm not very happy with Jeffrey's. Based on recent Health Department inspection records, it's not typical for a Health Department to return on August 14th, 15th, 20th, and 28th without cause. Even when reports state "no violations found," multiple back-to-back inspections are uncommon and raise reasonable questions. Health Department scores are public, and restaurants should be held to the standards reflected in those records. I'm also disappointed that the quality and consistency of the food have declined over the past few years. While the staff can be friendly-especially if you're a local regular- that shouldn't be the exception. Consistency, food quality, and execution should be there for every guest, every visit. Charging $5.00 for a soda when the juices there are cheaper doesn't make sense. Come on, Jeffrey - I've been in the restaurant business for over 40 years, and that kind of pricing decision, without exceptional value behind it, just isn't okay. This is particularly unfortunate given Jeffrey background. His culinary training, long tenure as Executive Chef at John Ash & Company, and deep roots in seasonal, farm-driven cooking set a very high bar. That history is impressive - and it's exactly why the current experience feels like such a miss. Sonoma County has too many strong restaurants for guests to accept anything less than consistent quality and professionalism. read more

It's a local favorite and its NOT BIG so expect a wait if your coming in during peak times. However the busyness of the place really speaks to its quality of food and service. I don't think you'll ever have a customer complain about the food or leaving hungry. The selections are all classic. I got the eggs benedict and my friends got the Huevos Rancheros and I instantly had food envy lol. We all topped it off with a bloody mary (wine, not vodka) and we were all pretty happy. Large portions and yummy food! We arrived by 9 am on Saturday and got one of the last tables from the first round of dining. Partway through our meal, most of the restaurant had cleared out before getting fully packed with a line out the door by 9:40 am. I enjoyed my corned duck hash but I felt the ratio of potato to toppings was a bit off. I wish I had more potatoes. My husband was thrown off by the roasted pear in this dish but I liked it! Jeffrey's is goated like crazy. This is my favorite brunch spot in SR, hands down. My favorite thing to get is the banana pancakes, which come with a special berry syrup. They got the quality bacon, too. Oh and the breakfast burritos are also tasty... and ginormous. One of these days I'll order the hot cocoa to see what that's about, because I always see people getting this huge BOWL of hot chocolate there.
