I've visited this store two years ago and purchased what has become my very favorite dress. I remember how nicely I was treated, and appreciated the quality of all the products available for purchase in the store. My dress has held up very well, my husband bought a shirt, and his shirt has also become one of his favorites. The prices are reflective of the quality of product you're getting. I wanted to write this review because of the above and beyond service I just experienced. I have a friend that lives on the island, and I do not. I live over 5000 miles away. I called the store, and I asked for a gift card. I wanted to see if it would be possible to surprise my friend by delivering the gift card to her home, which is 10 minutes away from the store. The gentleman on the phone informed me that he would be happy to do it for me, at no extra charge. Not only was the gift card delivered, but I believe it was Parker chose to take the experience to the next level and handcraft a beautiful Plumaria lei for my friend, no charge, refused a tip, and texted me a photo of my friend with her pretty lei and her gift card. I would have a hard time believing that hand delivering gift cards is normal for this business, but not for one minute was I ever made to feel as though anything I was asking for was inappropriate. I appreciated the aloha spirit that I just don't get to receive here where I live. This really was above and beyond, and I think when businesses go out of their way to add a heavy helping of love of humanity, they deserve recognition. I really do love the products in the store, and I can't wait to get back to the island to patronize their business again. In the interim, I hope this nice review will convince you to visit this lovely establishment. They have things for both men and women, and I believe children as well. I could not be more pleased with the products, and especially now this off-the-charts service. Thank you Parker. You helped me to put a little magic into the day of someone that really deserved it. read more

Well, I love the colorful dress I purchased, even at $128! I talked my husband into a shirt, and he followed my prompt. He hadn't looked at the price, however, and it was $151.20! How is a short more than a long mumu-ish dress? Regardless, when he saw the price back at the condo, he beat himself up right, left, and center. We took it back with the receipt the next day and they would not refund the purchase price. The receipt had a disclaimer regarding a time limit and "SC" which we NOW know means "store credit". I am amazed at this policy and how it can be legal. My husband gave me signs to not push my complaint, but please be aware of this with respect to this store. As he says, it is his fault, but omg! We don't generally spend that amount of money on clothes - actually, we have never spent that much on either type of clothing. It is a story to tell, though... read more

Lovely shop with so many Indonesian batik tie dye prints to choose from! There is literally something for everyone in here and the girl working up front was so sweet and helpful. It's a tiny shop and can easily get overcrowded, but the racks are chock full of goodies. If you want the fancier dresses with beading those are up front and are very pricey - they had a great sale rack up front and scrunchies to match nearly every dress in the shop - so cute! read more

Parker and Laine are the best! Parker took my phone order and my outfit was waiting for pick up in Kapaa. Exactly what I wanted and fit great! Laine helped me at the store! I gave her the item # and she found what I wanted. Both very helpful and cheerful. They gave an amazing return policy ! Great clothing and fantastic customer service!! Thank you ' read more

This by far was the worst shopping experience I have ever had!!!! the customer service was horrible! I had the best time vacationing with my girlfriends, until I decided to go into this shop to buy an OVERPRICED sundress!!! I put the dress on in the store Bought it and the woman helping me took the tags off I left WITH the receipt got in the car and decided it was too big and too much material!!! Literally 3 hours later I Tried to return it with the receipt and I was told I could not get my money back or get an even exchange for another dress! They were so rude not accommodating didn't care said the tags were off( but I had the receipt )the employee took off the tags they wouldn't do a thing didn't even try to be nice or helpful!! I was mortified so I gave them the dress back and the receipt and left with nothing!! I basically got ripped off for $154.00 they refused to refund my money or let me exchange for another dress They didn't even try to make it right so I had to report to my credit card as fraud. So if you do buy from this ridiculously overpriced store you better like what you get because you will get shut down if Your not happy with your purchase! And the owner was classless as his employees. BOO TO TROPICAL NIGHTMARE TANTRUM NO ALOHA THERE THATS FOR SURE!!! BUYER BEWARE!!! TROPICAL TANTRUM ARE THIEVES!! read more

Saleswoman could use some training on how to interact with customers. She was straight up rude to me and my girlfriend. Would recommend going somewhere else. read more

Caveat Emptor! On May 2, 2012 I had special ordered a man's kimono with the traditional sleeves at the Hanalei Center from Julie. Having returned to the Mainland, I left for Peru on May 22nd and returned mid-June. I found the kimono, which had been mailed to the wrong address. As it was too small in the upper back, chest, and shoulders, as well as having the wrong sleeves, I took images and on Monday, July 1st, 2012 emailed Tropicaltantrum and asked for their counsel. i received no reply. I also called their number for returns and exchanges and was unable to leave leave a message specific to that department, as they claimed you could do. Rather, I got a generic "Leave a message and we'll call you back" message on their answering machine. On July 16th, I returned the Kimono, which was delivered to them on Monday, the 19th, 2012, along with a letter both detailing this history of my communications and the problems with the kimono. I asked for a credit to the Visa card. As of this writing, I have received no acknowlegment of the return of the kimono .or of the letter. There has been no credit. On July 23rd, I sent another email to Bill at Tropicaltantrum, detailing the history and asking for an apprisal as to the status of the return and credit. As of this writing, August 28th, 2012, I have had no response or communication from Tropicaltantrum, even though they have my address, phone number, and email address. They also have the kimono, for which I have paid. Needless to say, a credit card dispute is working its way thorugh the process. I can honestly say that this has been the tackiest and least professional shopping experience that I have had in 50 years. I would guess that Tropicaltantrum figures that unless people are there on Kauai and able to relentlessly hound them in person if there are problems, that anyone else can just take a flying you-know-what! read more

What the eff? Husband and I walk in to peruse and the lady asks "Now, are you a serious shopper or looking to kill time?" Clearly, we are tourists with our backpacks and camera so I honestly answer that we are killing time while waiting out the rain. Lady shakes her head and says "No. Serious shoppers only." I look around and see the same flower printed dresses that I've seen at every store. The oddity and offensiveness gets zero stars, but yelp won't let me be that mean. Skip this place, visitors. Although you probably will never need to look up reviews or directions to this store anyway. read more

I was strolling around Kapaa one afternoon and saw a sign that states, "Hawaii's Most Popular Resort Clothing Boutique." Curious, I stepped inside. Two energetic ladies greeted me, talked about the store, showed me some stuff, and then found outfits for me to try. Overall, I had a lot of fun since I had plenty of time to kill that day and ended up leaving with a cute dress and coordinating earrings and sandals. The store is small, but it is packed with clothes and accessories. The clothes are made from hand-painted batik, and everything is made in Bali. There is a great selection of cute and colorful designs for both men and women though the store is almost all women's clothing. The stuff here is pretty expensive, but you can get a completely matching set from head to toe. The online website states that there is free custom alternation, but I did not see any signage in the store advertising it. Be aware that there is a no return policy. read more

Wonderful well made clothing. Unique and colorful. They carry a wide range of sizes including kids and men's fashions. They also sell coordinating accessories. Well worth a visit! read more

Tropical Tantrum - Love these people! Great unique stuff! - Accessories Near Me - Kapaa, Hawaii

YOU CAN BUY THE EXACT SAME NEW GARMENTS DOWN THE STREET FOR $100 LESS! I am having a "Tropical Tantrum" about this RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED store! Read it and weep people! I was in this shop a few days ago. They have lovely, Batik clothing made in Bali. I ended up purchasing a short kimono for myself and a Hawaiian type shirt for my husband. Each item was $169, I was shocked at the prices, so the salesperson kindly gave me a 10% discount. I still spent $315 for two items "oh well, we're on vacation" was my thinking. Well wouldn't you know I went down the street not even half a mile and I found the same identical items for $69 each, $100 less EACH. I bought a different dress there!!  I went back into Tropical Tantrum wearing my new $69 dress, the salesperson (not the original one) beamed with pride because she thought I was wearing one of "her" dresses. I explained that I'd purchased this at $100 less than her store and asked if they would give me a price adjustment on the two items I'd purchased from them. After first accusing me of buying a used garment (NOT THE CASE), she then said I could return my two items for a store credit.  Why would I want a credit in a store where everything is marked up 60% or more? Don't ruin the "Aloha Spirit" of Kauai and get ripped off at this store. It could ruin your vacation. read more

Awesome customer service and the most wonderful batik fabric and clothes. In all my years of working in the design field and international public relations work, I can honestly say this company is one of the finest for really caring about their customers. Parker gave excellent care with our orders, fabric selections and shipping. He really went the extra miles to make sure everything was just right and we truly appreciated all of his help. This was the first time we tried online and phone custom orders for clothing and are very, very happy. The day the first order arrived, I ordered additional clothing. The batik colors are beautiful and we look forward to purchasing additional clothes from this great company. read more

Beautiful, unusual clothing with and bling that can be coordinated complete with purse and shoes(for women). I made a purchase and didn't try on the pants. When I did, I didn't like the fit and 3 days later I took the unworn items back and initially was told No Refunds- only Store Credit and the girl pointed to a sign which I hadn't previously seen. Julie, the salesgirl, said that she would talk with Bill the owner and that I was to come back a few days later. My money was returned to my credit card. Thank you, Bill, for understanding and expeditious. read more

BUYER BEWARE! I purchased two dresses from the Kapa'a location and I wasn't as happy with one dress when I tried it on at home. I attempted to return the dress however to my amazement the store has a no return's policy which is not clearly delineated on the receipt nor was it articulated by the sales clerk. Though, it is posted on the wall behind the register-clearly visible when I was attempting a return- but conveniently behind the sales clerk during the original purchase.  Any establishment purposely deceiving customers and only articulating store policies when it benefits their bottom line doesn't deserve patronage; spend your money elsewhere.  Moreover, I would give the store a 0 rating but that's not an option. read more

Here's the problem. They lie about the product claiming it's locally made then back track. They don't know the product very well and are pushy. Moreover, overpriced. And finally, they basically told me I was fat...twice. Once when I said I was a size 12 and the woman said I was a 4x AND a second time when the guy tried to push me into a 2X. The L and XL both fit but I walked away. This review is for the Hanalei store. Both employees are not very aloha. read more

I LOVE the dragonfly clothing I bought from this store years ago. In fact, i am ordering some made for my guests as I have the Dragonfly Ranch on Big Island and people always ask where I bought my dragonfly dress, top, skirt and shawl. Very helpful sales staff. Huge selection of summer wear. Plenty of outfits and accessories but a little expensive.

Tropical Tantrum has beautiful natural clothing, handmade and gorgeous! The staff were helpful and super friendly. Anahita and Julie are absolute gems! I was treated with such aloha and respect while fashioned in the most amazing outfits that wear well both on the island and mainland. They offer beautiful clothing and accessories you can't find anywhere but on Kauai. Not only do I love my dresses; but, the TT family made me feel very much a part of their family. Highly recommend getting an original piece to go with every wardrobe! Natural Rayon keeps you warm and cool and feels so soft. Delicate hand-stitching and incredible colors for every day! read more
