I ordered ahead, when I arrived, there were only two customers waiting, including myself. It wasn't busy, and there were two employees working--one on food and the other on smoothies. The employee making smoothies, a young man, seemed far more focused on socializing with his friend and the friend's girlfriend (who were sitting at the bar) than on serving paying customers. During this time, he carried on a lengthy personal conversation about JT McConnell and mentioned that he had been fired from a different Tropical Smoothie Café before getting hired at this one. While talking, he became confused about what drinks he was making, and I stood waiting for about 10 minutes. In the middle of this, he even prepared a free Apple Pie Paradise smoothie for his friend's girlfriend--telling her it wasn't that good--before making drinks for paying customers. Meanwhile, my food was ready, and the food prep employee could tell I was frustrated by the lack of professionalism. When the smoothie employee finally addressed my order, he initially said he had already made one of my drinks, but the drink was sitting unfinished on the counter, never poured into a cup. This was frustrating and disappointing to experience. Based on his own admission of being fired from another Tropical Smoothie Café and the lack of attention to customer service I witnessed, I would strongly urge management to reconsider whether this employee is an asset or hindrance in the success of this store. I usually enjoy visiting Tropical Smoothie Café, but the service fell far short of expectations that day. In person orders took 40 minutes and two online orders took 20+ minutes past what the app said they would. My favorite amount of interaction to have with the people who work at a restaurant is a minimal amount of interaction, and that's exactly what is possible at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. They have an app on which you can place an order. When you get to the store, your order is waiting for you on the counter. You grab your order, wave a quick "thank you" to the busy people behind the counter, and you're on your way. The online ordering system is practically seamless. My first visit to this location was kind of disappointing because as I was drinking my smoothie, I found little plastic particles in my drink. I was like WTF and stopped drinking, and vowed to never visit again. However, despite the plastic, the smoothie itself was incredibly tasty, and I wanted another one. So recently, I was craving a smoothie and told myself that surely there wouldn't be plastic in this new smoothie. And I was right! It was just a smoothie, and it was very good. The smoothie I ordered was the Detox Island Green, which is spinach, kale, mango, pineapple, banana and ginger. It's only 180 calories, which is kind of amazing considering how delicious and filling it is. It doesn't have any added sweetener, which is appreciated by me. The parking can be kind of dicey here, because there are like four other businesses that share this small parking lot. But fortunately, many of the businesses are quick in-and-out businesses (takeout restaurants, cleaners, etc.), so I've never not found a space to park because there's lots of turnover. read more

I saw their new open sign for this restaurant as I was driving by so I decided to stop and check it out. It is located north of Market District block and near Jimmy John restaurant. It is within a very busy location with limited parking. This cafe offer lots more than smoothies. The staff was helpful and told me I could order the Island Green without the Splenda sugar. It was just as tasty with the natural sweetness from the fruits. I was told they just opened on 12/30/18. The company is based in Florida, and this chain restaurant is the first in the Indy area. But it was awesome to take my beautiful wife, who has Celiacs, a dairy allergy, and a soy allergy into a restaurant and have them happily modify food to meet her dietary needs! Tropical Smoothie Cafe is new to the Carmel area, but Tropical Smoothie Café, the company, has over 730 locations nationwide and they are growing every day, and I can see why. Look, as a rule, I don't usually give 5-star ratings to franchise restaurants. I want locally owned businesses/startups to thrive. Though a franchise, this location is locally owned (and expanding to Fishers - The Yard, and Westfield near Grand Park) and continues to exceed my expectations. I first had the pleasure of trying a blueberry bliss at a recent Yelp event. Not only was the smoothie cold, fresh, and delicious, but I could tell the owners were proud of what they had to offer. As another rule, when I find something that I like at a Yelp Event, I bookmark the business and make a point to see if it was as good the second time as the first. Well, it was! My wife was with me on a trip to Carmel and since we were so close, I suggested we stop by and pick something up. She decided to go with the Beach Bum Smoothie which has a combination of chocolate, strawberry, and banana flavors. Think banana split. Think tasty! They only offer one size for adults and it was plenty. (I believe they use a powder for the chocolate flavor, but I didn't ask.) She would have personally liked a bit more chocolate, but who doesn't? I went with the Acai Berry Boost smoothie that was recommended when I mentioned I had liked the blueberry. The Acai comes with acai, pomegranate, banana, blueberries & strawberries. It was fantastic. Just a hint of tartness to keep it from being too sweet. Very refreshing. While we sat there in the dining room trying to not get brain freeze, I decided to pick up a sandwich to go since I hadn't set anything out for dinner. As a rule (lots of rules I live by but sometimes break), I usually don't order sandwiches from places that specialize in treats/desserts/etc. But I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed my Pressed Chicken Caprese sandwich. The chicken was moist, the tomato and lettuce fresh, the Parmesan and Mozzarella were oozy, and the balsamic glaze's sweet/acidity stood up to the pesto savory for a great blend. The sandwiches also come with the customers pick of sides which are self-serve next to the counter. They had chips and fresh fruit options. And the owner, the same guy I had met at the Yelp Event was thrilled that I made the trip from Mooresville to stop by. He was so gracious and helpful. I saw him open a door for a customer. It's nice to see someone who is thankful for customers and treats them as guests. This may be a franchise, but you would never know it without research. I really enjoyed my experience here! I had a smoothie craving at like 8pm at night and was frantically trying to find somewhere still open and this one was the closest. When I walked in the staff members were both cleaning things and I noticed the whole place appeared to be extremely clean. The person at the register was really nice explaining how mix ins worked as K had never been in before. I ended up ordering a sunrise sunset and she added a generous scoop of peaches to it. My husband ordered a peanut butter chocolate banana shake for himself. They were a little expensive, but a generous size and didn't have any weird fake sugar flavour that I've been surprised by at other smoothie places. I noticed that have smoothie and wrap combos and stuff, and the order came out very quickly, so I will definitely stop in again the next time I am in a hurry and want a quick and healthy lunch. read more

So the smoothie I ordered was called the Island Green Island which had spinach, kale, mango, pineapple banana for $5.69 (410 cal). I then ordered their 3-cheese quesadillas that was made with queso blanco, cheddar, and smoked cheese with a side of roasted tomato salsa $4.99 (550 cal). The smoothie was delish but I definitely wouldn't be ordering their food again. I'm not sure if it was frozen and placed in the oven for heating but as shown in the photo I took, there wasn't a nice amount of chicken in there and as I bit into it, there was no sign of tomato salsa. What a disappointment. I'm not sure if I'll come back to order their food but the smoothie was on point. read more

Shout out to manager Brad at the Carmel 116th St location. Last week I placed a large order and one sandwich was missing. We were in a hurry and couldn't wait. We were told to come back any time, ask for Brad and he would make it right. We came back a week later for the sandwich, asked for Brad, he remembered the error and apologized. And not only that, but he comped the smoothies we order as well. I fully intended to pay for the smoothies and he told me it was on the house because of the error before. I've given this location so so so many chances. I understand it's a busy location. I am a patient person and I wait every time. I've never been here where I did not have to remind someone to make my drink. Today, just like the past when I see a customer who came in much later than me get his order I went and asked about mine. The employee looked at some of the drinks on the counter and moved on to make another drink (no help). I waited and asked another employee who looked at the drinks again and gave me my drink. What is the point of asking for my name if you just put it down on the counter? I'm done. There were two customers when I walked in, not busy time. My time is precious, so I'm done. I honestly think this location has management issues. No order or consistency. The employees always seem busy, I'm sure doing their best in a mismanaged location. Also my smoothie sat on the counter for 30 min according to the time stamp. So it's just juice now. I'm too annoyed to go back in there. I had no idea a new smoothie place moved in so close to my house! It's in the Market District shopping complex, but up by JJ's. Advertising makes it seem like it's in the grocery store and it's not. We went on Grand Opening Day when they had $1.99 smoothies all day. We are also crazy and went at 5am and were one of the first 40 and won 52 free smooties! I have tried 3 so far and they are so good! I will be there a lot! I would have been anyway, but my free one each week even more so! You want to get the app. You earn points and it's easy to pay quickly. The app also has the menu. It has the calorie count, but I haven't really seen more nutritional info. I love the Super Food Smooties. Orange Glow Ginger with extra ginger was AMAZING! Chia banana MAX was fabulous, but like 800 calories. Detox Island Green is the 3rd one I have had so far. I watch them make and love all the fresh fruit they put in. I do wish they had better info as to what goes in each one. I usually go to Smoothie King and had no idea some of there's had ice cream?!? I need to ask questions as I go and learn more about each one. So far I do love it at Tropical Smootie Cafe! They even have food. It's much more convenient to me before getting on 465 and they open early! I always forget to say make it skinny anywhere I go. This is a easy way to cut the calories.
