This place is fantastic!! Its basically a buffet style by lbs. It's a good decent price for 8.99lb. In my opinion it's better to go there and choose your own portion with multiple verities than ordering what's pre ordered on the menu. Perfect seasoning not too salty. My favorite the beef patties. I was happy that there was finally a Carribean food restaurant opening in Manassas. So within the first few weeks of opening my BF and I went here for lunch. We both chose to get a little bit of (almost) everything there was to chose from so we can sample everything. Glad we did because there is no confusion as to what we think of this restaurant....it was a big thumbs down from both of us. Chicken was DRY, rice was too wet, patties tasted off. And the spices....where were they?! The spices were missing, this is a "watered" down Carribean restaurant IMO. I also didn't like that it was a buffet style set up. Very very overpriced for what it was ... VERY! We will just have to continue to drive to Woodbridge to our regular spot to eat some great Carribean food. Just tried this place yesterday and the oxtail was sooooo good melts right off the bone.

I thought this was a Tropical Smoothie; then I looked at the photos on the door and realized it wasn't. It's a Caribbean buffet restaurant. Choose what you want and it's weighed. I think the price is $8.98 per pound. They offer a military discount( THANK YOU!!) I had the rice and peas, oxtails, baked Mac n cheese, jerk ribs, cabbage, and plantain. The buffet also had curry chicken, stew chicken, coconut rice, greens, and coconut bread ( and much more). Everything was hot and fresh; the meat was tender and falling off the bone. The seasonings were perfect, not too salty or spicy. I tried Sorrel for the first time. I purchased the one with ginger in it. It was sweet and bitter, an interesting combination of flavors. Omg I was so excited to see this place was NOT a tropical smothie and that it sold AUTHENTIC Caribbean cuisine. My ex is jamaican and i swear the food is just as good and authentic as his family's holiday dinners lol. My 14 and 10 year old also ate with me and enjoyed the ox tail especially. I LOVED the goat. This is my 2nd visit here so I feel informed enough to write a review. The concept here is simple: get a tray, grab a plate or to-go container, and fill up to your capacity with some good food from the buffet. They have everything you can think of: jerk and curry chicken, oxtails, curry goat, coconut rice, rice & peas, plantains, etc. From what I'm told, the food is cooked in house. You pay by the pound and it gets pricey if you load up. I was in the mood for oxtails so I got 3 meaty ones, coconut rice, curry & jerk chicken, cabbage, and spinach. My total was $27. I think that's a bit much but I knew the price going in. The oxtails were good but both chicken dishes tasted as though they'd been re-heated. The plantains were also old-looking. The cabbage and spinach was delicious! The food was good. I'm giving 2-stars for the food ONLY. When I entered the business, the gentleman behind the counter was engaged in a spirited conversation with a young lady. As soon as she left, he took a call and concluded it as I got to the register. At no time did anything resembling a greeting come from his mouth! He told me the price of my meal, bagged it, and gave me the receipt. That was it!! Customer service is a big issue to me and this place is lacking. While the food is good, no business' food is good enough to neglect your customers, especially if I drive from Woodbridge to Manassas. I think in the future I'll look elsewhere to satisfy my Jamaican food craving. I don't think I should be paying you extra for THAT type of non-service. read more

This Jamaican Restaurant in Manassas, VA was a very poor experience for us as we ordered carry-out food for the very first time and it was just not up to par or our expectations of good food! Very dissappointed with this place and their customer service! Very EXPENSIVE $$$ for the quality of food they give you. My husband and I each ordered two main Curry-type dishes (Curry Goat with Roti and Curry Chicken with Roti) on the menu and were looking forward to great-tasting curries and good Jamaican Rotis! Alas, both curry dishes were major disappointments when we picked them up and brought them home to enjoy. The Curry Goat dish has more Potatoes and tons of Chick Peas and very litte Goat meat in it! This dish has more Veggies and very few good sized curry Goat pieces in it and there's BARELY any curry/gravy in this dish! Its so DRY! and not the curry / curry sauce we were expecting in it!! Also the Jerk Chicken entree that comes with Beans & Rice and side of Cabbage was not that great of a taste but edible to say the least! Very unappealing look to it! Chicken looked very dry and Beans & Rice side is not very tasty either! We will Never order from this place again~ Waste of $$$ and time! You can def get better tasting Jamaican food elsewhere for more reasonable prices! Each curry item is overpriced for the quantity & quality of food you get!! Hopeless effort! We came in here on a whim and could not be happier. Not only were the workers and owner amazing but the food was INCREDIBLE. Holy Hannah my mouth could not be happier. If you want unseasoned Jamaican food go here. I was very disappointed. The oxtails/stew have no flavors. The curry chicken was tasteless, chicken stew was tasteless. The jerk chicken was the only thing that I liked along with the salmon, the salmon wasn't very flavorful but the quality of the salmon made up for the lack of seasonings. I really hate to down-star a restaurant that I was so enthusiastic about first visit, but unfortunately our lunch-time visit yesterday, while not "bad", wasn't nearly as good as our first. We were once again greeted warmly, & were pleased to see that they'd brightened the place up a bit with full-color posters of their food & two small flat-screen tv's. And their offerings had increased to include some pork dishes & a few more sides. Everything looked fresh except for the "Curry Shrimp", which was down to just a few dregs at the time we visited. It's probably very popular as the only seafood offering. I took one spoonful of the "Rice & Peas" that I enjoyed so much last time, but this time around it was extremely bland. Gone were the wonderful whole allspice berries from last time. Also took a scoop of seasoned spinach, but this too was extremely gloppy & bland. Oh, & this time there was no "Caribbean Habanero Hot Sauce" on hand to zip things up. This should be a given here. Of course I went again with my all-time Carib favorite "Goat Curry", but unlike last time, this time around it consisted of tiny little 1" pieces of bone that one really had to send a search party after to find the meat. I probably ended up with 2 tablespoons of meat from the 6 or so pieces of goat I took. The goat curry gravy was delicious, but honestly - to paraphrase an old-time burger commercial: "Where's the Goat?". I did also take a few pieces of curried pork, which were heftier both bone & meat-wise, so used the meat from that to help absorb the delicious goat gravy. I also took a leg of "Jerk Chicken", & while it was infinitely a lot spicier than the last time, it had a somewhat strong bitter taste & was also infinitely dryer. It took a lot out of my plastic cutlery to slice into that, & I ended up tossing out half of it as inedible, although the aforementioned delicious goat gravy did salvage some of it. This time around I also enjoyed a bottle of Ginger Beer (non-alcoholic), which frankly was the high point of the meal. Hubby had the Jerk Chicken & the Curried Shrimp he'd enjoyed last time, & although I didn't press him, he didn't seem to enjoy it this time as much as last time either. (I definitely did not get the feeling he wants a repeat performance.) Bottom Line: I frankly don't really know what to say. I love the concept & love Caribbean food, but while authentic goat & even pork curry is somewhat difficult to come by, I felt this time around that my per-pound cost paid mostly for bones & blandness rather than actual edible meat. The pork bones alone had to register at 1/3#. And I did seriously miss the whole allspice berries in the rice. That was seriously the one thing that made this version different from a boxed mix. I was disappointed. Husband doesn't really care for the cuisine outside of when I make it at home, so I can't see him volunteering to visit here again after yesterday. While we were there, there was a steady stream of dine-in & take-out customers, so they must be doing at least okay. I wish them well, but can't say that we'll be back. read more

Taking a look via their website enotced me and not having many carribean food options nearby, I decided to give Tropical Bites a try. Having said that though, that unfortunately was where the ideal peaked. I ordered their jerk chicken entree and an order of wings. I've had my fair share of Jamaican fare and this restaurant is second worst in all my dining experiences. My entree was $13.99 before taxes, and what I received was a quarter cup of overly boiled wet cabbage, three small slices of plantains, rice and two drum sticks (or legs). For $5 at Costco, I could have an entire rotisserie chicken, so for a dinner size portion to be this lacking told me this place is an utter rip-off. Other Jamaican eateries would offer up a quarter to a half-chicken for a similar or lesser price. Inflation is ramping up, but their portions and lack of flavor is telling me that don't much care to offer their customers quality portions for their money. So this is a very unique set up which allows you to have all your favorite carribean food all in one. The catch, oh yes there is a catch, this is a per pound and after you select the rice, oxtails, jerk chicken, curry chicken, cabbage and Mac and goat you will be blown away at the grand total which you can buy groceries for an entire week off. Lol no kidding it's a lot, our bill came out to $45 for two people. I guess you could call us greedy or maybe just maybe the per pound is over rated or the scale is off idk. The Mac and cheese looked better than it taste so I took off a star for that and the price. I order caribean food all the time and the portion I put on the plate was normal size however those prices were outrageous. The Jerk seasoning was a hit and the curry shrimp. The jerk ribs were good as well. My curry chicken was flavorless. I will still return, and only order the jerk with light rice.
